| Defect Summary | Nissan is recalling certain model year 2004-2006 armada, titan, infiniti qx56 and model year 2005-2006 frontier, pathfinder and xterra vehicles. the intelligent power distribution module (ipdm) assembly contains an engine control module (ecm) relay that has a diode for electrical current noise reduction. the ecm relay may allow silicon vapor to form and, over time, the silicon evaporates from the diode molding which causes silicon oxide to develop on the ecm relay contact due to arcing. | |||||||||||||||

| I have the 06 pathfinder, there was a recall that i was not aware of, until i start searching after the car have accelerating issue that almost cause an accident multiple occasions, anyway i went to my dealership and they said nissan only cover u to 100000 miles. our is 15000 miles over, the problem was a defected radiator and that leak coolant into the transmission. it would cost us $7600 to repair it , and way over our budget . i start check online and there is a lot of complaints on this issues. hope my complaints help us and many others that help same misfortune. | |||

| I have a pathfinder 2006 with 110,000 miles on january 9, 2012 i take it to the dealership because it was shaking ones i drove over 60 mph the dealer did a multi- point vehicle inspection and they determined that everything was ok except from the four-wheel-drive chaff join th got excessive play and replace it for new one and yesterday march 7, 2013 i took my pathfinder 2006 to royal palm nissan and the service advisor hernando valencia estate it that my car radiator is leaking coolant into the transmission and though that i had to replace it for a new ones and is going to cost me $6400 and he states that that's a common issue with the path finders so if it's a common issue and they do an extended warranties wish there are no good to no body how can they spect a costumer to pay 6400 for a part the they should recall i'm sure i'm not along on this issue and just hope the some busy like you guys can make them do the right thing and stand by their products to avoid any accidents with thousands of vehicles on the road thanks so much for reviewing this lines i apresiated and i hope to hear back from you guys thanks ever such lots | |||

| Observed milky puddle under radiator and thick milkly pink fluid in radiator and overflow reservoir. observed during the last 3000miles intermittent vibrations similar to hitting the wake-up strips on the side of a highway shoulder or washer-board road texture. vibrations happened at various times between 1250 to 2250 rpm and 50 to 60mph. tire balance was ruled out as a cause of vibration by mechanic. dealer diagnosis verified cross contamination of the engine coolant and transmisson fluid caused by an internal transmission cooler in the radiator split apart. a mechanic described the damage that would be caused to the transmission from the cross contamination would include severe corrosion. transmission failure is imminent because of the severe leakage. transmission failure is also sudden, because the vehicle was operable even with the presence of a leak. repair of this condition requires replacement of the radiator and transmission and flushing the coolant system. i would not want to replace a faulty radiator with the same, but our mechanic verified that the nissan replacement radiator has been be changed from the original part number. therefore, nissan has revised their radiator but not issued a recall. nissan dealer quotes for repair was $9983. | |||

| This issue is related to nhtsa action number : dp12004 my 2006 nissan pathfinder started having transmission issues at roughly 96,000 miles on 2/1/2013. while driving, the car will sometimes shake and rumble when traveling between 40-55 mph. the car has progressively gotten worse in the 2 weeks that the problem started happening. i took my nissan for repair at berlin city nissan in portland, maine on 2/19/2013 and they stated that the problem is a known issue. the known issue was a design flaw with how the radiator and transmission are integrated together. in summary when there is a cracked atf line in the vehicle, that engine coolant will run through the transmission ultimately causing permanent damage and requiring that the radiator and transmission be replaced. the quote i got today to get the items repaired is $6,700. nissan is aware of this issue and rather than having a recall they increased the warranty duration to 80k miles. from reading on-line, it appears that most people that have had this issue (like me), experience this problem after 80k miles. therefore, nissan does not have to pay for the repair. from reading on-line and talking with the nissan service staff, the problem with my 2006 nissan pathfinder is only going to get worse and ultimately present a driving hazard. i need to make a decision soon whether to make the costly repair or get a new vehicle. i am concerned about the car failing putting myself and my passengers at risk. | |||

| Traveling at approximately 40mph. noticed that car shuddered when i accelerated, but then it stopped as i sped up. service engine soon light came on and car lost power while i was driving in high traffic. nearly rearended by the vehicle behind me. cars has to swerve to miss hitting me. the rpms were high when i applied the accelerator, but the car would only go about 10 mph. took car to mechanic nearby. was told there was a problem with the transmission and the car was dangerous to drive. advised to have the car moved to a local transmission business for further inspection. received a class action lawsuit notice against nissan for the very make and model suv i own. at the time, i had no problems. i have maintained the vehicle well. this very costly transmission problem came on suddenly with no warnings, which i read is typical of this nissan defect. i believe that these cars should be recalled and all expenses paid for by nissan as they were aware of the defective radiators. not only are the costs to their consumers unacceptable ($6,000 repair on a vehicle with little over 100,000k miles), but they are putting people's lives at risk with this defect. | |||

| I was driving down the highway during rush when all of a sudden my car wouldn't go over 45mph and the rpm went up to 6-7 rpm's as my transmission slipped. i was able to pull my 2006 nissan pathfinder over to the median, but it was too dangerous to exit and check the engine because of the rush hour traffic driving in excess of 65-70mph. i was able to get the truck towed to coggin nissan in jacksonville, fl at my expense. the dealership stated that the transmission cooler line ruptured inside of the radiator allowing coolant and transmission fluid to mix and cross contaminate. they suggested i get a new radiator and transmission. the same dealership sold me the truck and a warranty by fidelity warranty services. the warranty company that is a subsidiary company of the dealership owed by south east toyota (set) denied my claim saying to root of the problem was the radiator. felt like this is a conflict of interest since set owns the warranty company, which would be like asking your boss to pay for something. contacted nissan and haven't heard back. all nissan offered was info on the class action lawsuit which didn't help since this failure in their engineering of the vehicle didn't occur until after 107,710 miles was put on my vehicle. i bought the vehicle with only 93,844 miles on it, and have only had it for a year and a half. i still owe $10,000 and the dealership, warranty company, and nissan have all failed to help fix a known manufacturer defect in the engineering design. i thank god that my pregnant wife was not in the truck with me at the time and we were hit. nissan should take responsibility for their decisions and recall and fix this. all this is doing is causing loyal customers to leave nissan, coggin toyota at the avenues, and fidelity warranty services and expose them and their crooked actions. *tr | |||

| I was driving down the highway during rush when all of a sudden my car wouldn't go over 45mph and the rpm went up to 6-7 rpm's as my transmission slipped. i was able to pull my 2006 nissan pathfinder over to the median, but it was too dangerous to exit and check the engine because of the rush hour traffic driving in excess of 65-70mph. i was able to get the truck towed to coggin nissan in jacksonville, fl at my expense. the dealership stated that the transmission cooler line ruptured inside of the radiator allowing coolant and transmission fluid to mix and cross contaminate. they suggested i get a new radiator and transmission. the same dealership sold me the truck and a warranty by fidelity warranty services. the warranty company that is a subsidary company of the dealership owed by south east toyota (set) denied my claim saying to root of the problem was the radiator. felt like this is a conflict of interest since set owns the warranty company, which would be like asking your boss to pay for something. contacted nissan and haven't heard back. all nissan offered was info on the class action lawsuit which didn't help since this failure in their engineering of the vehicle didn't occur until after 107,710 miles was put on my vehicle. i bought the vehicle with only 93,844 miles on it, and have only had it for a year and a half. i still owe $10,000 and the dealership, warranty company, and nissan have all failed to help fix a known manufacterer defect in the engineering design. i thank god that my pregnant wife was not in the truck with me at the time and we were hit. nissan should take responsibility for their decisions and recall and fix this. all this is doing is causing loyal customers to leave nissan, coggin toyota at the avenues, and fidelity warranty services and expose them and their crooked actions. | |||

| Just purchased 2006 pathfinder from local (jeep/dodge) dealer. was literally driving it home from the lot when i encountered vibration and near loss of control at freeway speeds. i was able to get the vehicle home and after checking the fluids found a milky white (atf?) fluid in the coolant/radiator. the vehicle has 87500 miles and i'm beside myself right now. the dealer i purchased the vehicle from seems willing to work with me to remedy the situation but i'm not sure if they'll pay for a new transmission and radiator...? after a couple of minutes of investigation on the internet found the mass of folks dealing with the same radiator/transmission failure problem. i've got an appointment with the local nissan dealer this week... we'll see what happens. nhtsa please help the hundreds if not thousands of nissan owners dealing with this obvious defect! | |||

| Recently i noticed that the vehicle vibrates/shutters at certain speeds causing difficulty with acceleration. i took it to my mechanic and the mechanic told me that after some research he discovered there is a known defect with the radiator/transmission and that i should take it to the dealer. i brought it to the dealer and they informed me that i was 2000 miles over the 100,000 mile extended power train warranty and that i was not eligible for the replacements under warranty (which would have cost me $3,000?). instead if i want the radiator and transmission replaced i would have to pay $7,000-$8,000 which i find very unethical because as a pregnant mother driving around 2 small children this vehicle is unsafe for my family to drive in it's current condition. nissan should recall the defective parts and replace at no cost to the customers, considering the part was defective when built and the consumers were never notified of the potential issues. *tr | |||

| Took my 2006 pathfinder to a shop for poor heat, and a slight transmission shutter after checking the fluid noticed the anti-freeze was contaminated with transmission fluid and the transmission fluid was milky from the anti-freeze. only having 88,000 miles on car i started looking for reasons and found that there was a crack in the radiator causing it to swap fluids. after speaking with the shop owner he believes it was caught early so there is an off chance that a good flush and transmission service will correct the shutter, how ever i will need to replace the radiator, thermostat, all fluids and the hose assembly that connects the rear heat ( became brittle and cracked from transmission fluid) for a cost off $2000 parts. *tr | |||

| I had multiple posting previously on my 2006 brand new nissan pathfinder. first problem was with the ecm which was later fixed for about $2000, later nissan reimbursed. as lithia spring ga. nissan dealership had my suv to fix the ecm, on day of pick up, 2 front catalytic converters were defective evidence by a loud hollow noise which the dealership denied. few months later i was notified by nissan manufacturers to take my suv for a recalled maintenance on radiator assemble issues. i took my suv to the same dealership with my noticed, the dealership refused to complete the recalled maintenance and claimed that my suv had a higher mileage than what the manufacturers are recalling. two weeks later my suv went into a cloud of smoke with a rooting eggs odor and as i towed the car to the same dealership, i was charge $98 to complete diagnostic and i was informed the valves body, the transmission sensor and my transmission need a replacement for the total of offer $5000. i managed to complete payment on the car, i had just cancelled the registration on my suv. i still need help to get my suv running again. at the time of purchased i drove of with only 20 miles in my suv. it is un-acceptable that nissan and nissan dealership around the nation would not stand out to take full responsibilities to their defective products; rather, to try to clean out the pockets of nissan owners. i had a service manager at nissan lithia spring ga. asked me what type of job am i doing? i told him that is irrelevant. my speed on the day my suv went into full white smoke was between 35-40 miles. *tr | |||

| I bought this vehicle in june 2011 from benson nissan in spartanburg, sc. i had no idea about the radiator/transmission problems these vehicles were having &of course it wasn't mentioned in the sale. it was already slightly past the 80,000 mile warranty (the previous owner was obviously aware of problems) for the radiator. less than 2 weeks after purchase i told the sales person &a mechanic that the car was jerking at around 60 mph when changing gears. the mechanic blamed ?bad gas? & ?ethanol? & assured me it wasn't the transmission. less than a month later, i took it back to the dealer?s &told them the car was still jerking at 60mph &asked them about the transmission. they again told me there was not a problem with the transmission. the car continued to shake worse when shifting &i continued to call nissan &complain. the sales person even offered to trade the car in for me, but reneged when his manager declined because i ?got too good of a deal on that car &(they) couldn't trade it back.? the shaking began to get worse &spread to lower gears &i accepted the fact that i was sold a lemon. through all this, no one at the nissan dealership mentioned the transmission or radiator problem. i found out about it only after i began to research how to repair it myself &by then all i could do was pray. barely one year after purchase while on the way to my parent?s house with my child in the back seat, &while on a busy highway, the car stuck in 2nd gear. i barely got it to my parent?s house &endured a lot of angry drivers around me. it cost $3700 to rebuild the transmission &replace the radiator that leaked into the transmission &finally after getting it back the jerking while shifting has stopped. i should've been informed about the transmission problem at purchase or at least after complaining &nissan needs to make good on their faulty parts before someone is really hurt. *tr | |||

| I purchased an after-market engine cold air intake for my 2006 nissan pathfinder. approximately a month after i installed the intake a piece of metal from the intake broke of and got lodged in the throttle of my vehicle during a trip to los angeles, ca. the metal piece caused my car's engine to stall the die completely on the freeway within a matter of seconds. i was able to safely get my vehicle to the side of the road. i had the vehicle towed to a mechanic in barstow, ca who removed the metal debris from the throttle. the mechanic informed me the metal had broken loose from inside the intake. when i removed the intake and examined the inside i found more pieces of metal ready to break free. the metal fragments were left hanging and cleaned up after the metal was cut and the o2 sensor fitting was welded on. *tr | |||

| Tl*the contact owns a 2006 nissan pathfinder. upon purchasing the vehicle, the contact noticed that the check engine light was illuminated. she was informed that the fuel gauge sensor needed to be replaced. she stated that the fuel gauge indicator needle remains on the empty symbol, even when fuel is in the vehicle. the contact took the vehicle back to the dealer two weeks later to have it repaired. the dealer informed her that the cause of failure was a short in the cluster and the part had to be ordered from puerto rico. the part arrived a week and a half later and the dealer replaced the cluster. one week later, the odometer began to display the incorrect mileage. the odometer was later repaired. two weeks later, the vehicle began making a loud squeaking noise as soon as it was started. the contact took the vehicle back to the dealer and was informed that the cause of failure was the tension belt. the dealer replaced the belt, but later discovered that the part was defective. the belt was replaced again, but the dealer was unsure if the replacement part would be defective as well. the vin, engine size, number of cylinders, speed, and powertrain were unknown. the current mileage was 12,566 and failure mileage was 693. | |||

| This is in reference to the 2005 and 2006 nissan pathfinders and the failing in-radiator transmission coolers allowing coolant into the transsmission causing them to fail. my 2006 has not failed but i am replacing the radiator today to stay ahead of the potential failure. (i am a mechanic and after reviewing approx 200 internet posts see the issue very clearly) you are welcome to the radiator i will be removing for a forensic evaluation of the internal transmission cooler, i have maintained my vehicle religiously and this would be a good indicator if there are corrosion issues with proper maintenance and low mileage. just let me know where you would like it sent. | |||

| 2006 nissan pathfinder was taken today for a routine yearly inspection. only issue i have had with it is the heater periodically doesn't work correctly. at the nissan dealer, i have been told the vehicle is in need of an entire transmission and radiator replacement due to the fact that a cooling line is broken and all antifreeze mixed in with the transmission fluid. estimated cost is $7000. in addition, the catalytic converter needs replaced. the repairman indicated many pathfinders have this problem. after searching on-line, there are multiple people angry that their pathfinders are having the exact same issue, yet nissan is still not assuming any responsibility for any of this. i also filed a complaint with nissan customer service. this is quite disconcerting, as the vehicle is only 4 years old, and i am now being told i shouldn't even be driving it. they are offering to help only by giving us a great deal on a trade. however, i no longer trust nissan, and would not trade for another nissan. i am asking nissan for some explanation, and some financial assistance on this issue, but i have not had a reply. the dealer only offers a great trade-in value - the manufacturer hasn't replied yet (assuming they will reply at all. thank you for your time on this matter and anything you can do to assist. *tr | |||

| 2006 nissan pathfinder - in august the fuel gauge stops working i have to replace the fuel pump. in december the radiator coolant and transmission fluid mix and i have to replace radiator and flush transmission fluid. in january the ipmd module goes out, car goes completely dead on freeway and almost causes an accident. in february ses light goes on again this time catalytic converter goes bad. february 24 coolant and transmission fluid mixing again taking to shop tomorrow. please look into the issues, if you search the internet you will discover this is not an isolated incident. please help. i'm sure i will be posting again next month. *tr | |||

| National headquarters consumers affairs department: 10/10/10 in the past few months beginning may 2010i have been attempting to communicate with christie ferrell nissan rep.for the northern region. i was recently informed by ms ferrell in sept 2010 that nissan refused my request for assistance in replacing the catalytic converter in my 2006 nissan pathfinder that currently as of sept 24, 2010 has 86,000 miles. you see back in april 14, 2010 i was informed by nalley nissan of decatur ga. that i needed to have the catalytic converter replaced on my 2006 pathfinder, and that they could do the job for $1,200 -$1,500 at the time my vehicle had approximately 80,000 miles or less yet when i had work done at nalley nissan on april 14, 2010 the mileage was documented as by nalley nissan as being 125,000 in an attempt as not to repair my vehicle under the manufactures warranty free of cost. on may 24, 2010 i had a second opinion done as well as some repair work done and at this time 1 month later my car read 81,254 miles reading on the odometer knowing all of this had transpired ms ferrell informed me that nissan would not replace or assist in getting this matter taken care of. is it common that the converter should have to be replaced in a car so new ( 2006 ). as well as the records being falsified so my vehicle would not qualify for replacement of the converter. it is virtually impossible to have had 125,000 miles on 4/15/10, and 81,254 miles on 5/24/10 not to mention that as of sept 24, 2010 my reading is 86,000 miles. also i have been informed that a code for the gas sensor is being displayed, the fuel reading says empty yet i have just put $45.00 worth of gas in the tank also these parts would not be kept in stock if not for frequent replacement of said parts. i have copies of both receipts showing this to be a fact . vehicle id # awaiting your response | |||
