Defect SummaryNissan is recalling certain model year 2006 and model year 2008 frontier, xterra and pathfinder vehicles. the molded fuel tank shells can deform, causing the fuel sender float arm to contact an embossment molded into the tank shell causing the instrument panel fuel gauge to show that the vehicle has approximately one quarter tank when the fuel tank is empty.
Consequence SummaryThis could cause the vehicle to run out of gas and stall in traffic, increasing the risk of a crash.
Corrective SummaryDealers will replace the fuel level sending unit inside the fuel tank with a new one that has a modified float arm. this service will be performed free of charge. the safety recall is expected to begin on or before march 22, 2010. owners may contact nissan at 1-800-647-7261.

I own a 2006 nissan pathfinder, first my fuel sensor failed, and now at approx 92,000 miles my vehicle has this horrible vibration at 45mph and 60 mph. after thinking it was my tires off balance and having them serviced and an alignment done, i decided to do some research online and called my nissan service dept. to my surprise this is a very common problem with this vehicle and it is a problem with the transmission and radiator fluids mixing, causing the tranny to fail. if this is not a major safety concern i am not sure what is. please review, it will cost the consumer approx $8,000 to fix and not to mention the inconvenience. if this were an isolated incident i would not complain, but there are a massive amount of complaints. i even contacted nissan corp. and after 3 weeks i am still waiting on a return call. i do highway driving and have 3 children in my vehicle daily. this is a major concern. *tr

I am writing about my recent experience with nissan regarding a recall on my 2006 nissan pathfinder, which i purchased in may of 2008 as a pre-owned vehicle. the recall with the nhtsa campaign id number of 10v075000 involves a flaw with the fuel sending unit. i never received a notice from nissan regarding this recall, which nissan states is an extended warranty. i noticed that there was a problem with the fuel gauge sometime ago.three weeks ago i was doing research online to try and find a solution to the problem.that is when i discovered the recall. i immediately contacted orr nissan in bossier city 318-752-3000, since that is the dealer that i purcashed the pathfinder from. i spoke to mike in the service department who told me that i would have to pay to have the problem fixed, because the mileage was over 72,000 miles and that it would cost me around $600 had i known about the recall, it would have been within the mileage specified when i contacted them. i took the next step and called nissan usa at 1-800-647-7261 and spoke to rita at ext#457220. rita told me that the reason i was never notified was due to an error on nissan's part, since they never entered my information into their computer system designating me as the new owner of the vehicle. so, the notice was sent out to the prior owners whom live in another state. at that point she opened a case for me with the case #7881103.i was contacted by tim from 1-800-343-6913 ext#458114, who told me that they were not going to honor the recall and make the repair, because i did not have my pathfinder serviced at nissan. he then said that i would have to pay for it myself. well, i have taken it in on numerous occasions for an oil change and regular maintenance, they did not spot it on either occasion.but, even if i had never taken it to them for maintenance, i should not be punished for servicing my own vehicle.

Fuel sending unit ..... tank reads 1/4 to 1/3 to empty on panel and runs out of gas ....while driving gauge flucuates to full half and none after filing up and continues to do so no matter how much fuel ...... digital reading says 0 to 30 to 120 to 300 miles after filling up ... check engine light is on giving a error code for fuel sender.... there was a recall on the 2006 nissan pathfinder for this issue but nissan states that my vehicle does not fall in the recall ...... vehicle was manu 05/06... and has the same issue as the recall for 80,000 other nissan vehicles made the same year...nissan wants me to pay 98.00 for a diagnostic when ive had one done by a auto shop and the code matches the fuel sending unit.... nissan states they are unsure if they will cover the fuel sender or assist in repairdue to the fact my 06 pathfinder wasnt included in the recall

Within a year of having the fuel level sending unit replaced as part of a recall, the same symptom appeareared as described in the recall and as was happening before the initial recall work was done. the root cause of the problem was a deformation of the fuel tank that would cause the sending unit to hang up. when i returned to the nissan dealership to repair the problem again, they then told me that the problem was a bulging fuel tank and wanted to replace the fuel tank. i contacted nissan consumer affairs, they reviewed my claim and decided thay would not cover the repairs. in my mind the root cause was never truly addressed and now i am paying to repair what should have been initially repaired in the first place.

The gas gauge on my 2006 nissan pathfinder read 1/4 of tank of gas remaining and suddenly engine stopped running and i had to pull over to the shoulder. after my husband exhausted all efforts trying to detect the problem, he put gas in it to see if that was it (because gauge was reading 1/4 of tank remaining.) after putting gas in, car started and we drove it home. went to gas station to fill up with gas and service engine soon light came on and gas gauge no longer works properly. i usually get 330 miles to tank of gas and now the gas light comes on and stays on after going 200 miles on a tank. nissan dealership wants $500 to repair and as it turns out, thousands of people are having the same problem. it is very dangerous to drive down the highway and not know if your vehicle is going to shut off because you don't have gas in it (when you do have gas in it...just not enough for some sensor in your gas tank to recognize.) i have held off on paying for this repair because i want nissan to recall this fuel issue and repair it. i have been a loyal nissan customer (2 maximas before this pathfinder) but this is starting to change my mind.

National headquarters consumers affairs department: 10/10/10 in the past few months beginning may 2010i have been attempting to communicate with christie ferrell nissan rep.for the northern region. i was recently informed by ms ferrell in sept 2010 that nissan refused my request for assistance in replacing the catalytic converter in my 2006 nissan pathfinder that currently as of sept 24, 2010 has 86,000 miles. you see back in april 14, 2010 i was informed by nalley nissan of decatur ga. that i needed to have the catalytic converter replaced on my 2006 pathfinder, and that they could do the job for $1,200 -$1,500 at the time my vehicle had approximately 80,000 miles or less yet when i had work done at nalley nissan on april 14, 2010 the mileage was documented as by nalley nissan as being 125,000 in an attempt as not to repair my vehicle under the manufactures warranty free of cost. on may 24, 2010 i had a second opinion done as well as some repair work done and at this time 1 month later my car read 81,254 miles reading on the odometer knowing all of this had transpired ms ferrell informed me that nissan would not replace or assist in getting this matter taken care of. is it common that the converter should have to be replaced in a car so new ( 2006 ). as well as the records being falsified so my vehicle would not qualify for replacement of the converter. it is virtually impossible to have had 125,000 miles on 4/15/10, and 81,254 miles on 5/24/10 not to mention that as of sept 24, 2010 my reading is 86,000 miles. also i have been informed that a code for the gas sensor is being displayed, the fuel reading says empty yet i have just put $45.00 worth of gas in the tank also these parts would not be kept in stock if not for frequent replacement of said parts. i have copies of both receipts showing this to be a fact . vehicle id # awaiting your response

The fuel level sending unit of my 2006 nissan pathfinder failed at approximately 45k miles in july 2010. this is apparently a significant issue for some nissan vehicles as the internet has hundreds of similar complaints. in addition, nissan released bulletin ntb07-069a regarding faulty fuel level sensors. i am currently working with nissan to have them resolve their faulty unit in my vehicle, however initially they indicate this is not a covered repair despite the hundreds of active complaints i can find all over the internet. my concern is that the vehicle may run out of fuel while on the road, a major issue for my family

Nissan 2006 pathfinder models come with defects that nissan will not take responsiblity for. the fuel sending unit on this vehicles are defected and can cause people to run out of gas and put themselves in danger. also the radiator can cause a leek and send fluid into the transmission causing possible accident. nissan refuses to admit this is a recall problem.

2006 nissan pathfinder fuel level sensor has been diagnosed as having failed. nissan has a recall on some 2006 pathfinders' fuel level sensor, but my vin is not on the list. having a vehicle with a faulty fuel level sensor is a safety hazard in that one could run out of fuel and cause an accident if the fuel guage is reading that there is fuel in the tank. every nissan pathfinder with this problem should be fixed by nissan no matter the vin. there are many other pathfinder owners who have experienced this same issue according to edmund's town talk and autoforums classifieds 1000.

There was a recall issued march 3, 2010 by nissan for my 2006 nissan pathfinder to replace a defective fuel level sending unit. when i attempted to get my fuel level sensor replaced at their woodbury nj nissan dealership in april 2010, because of a failure of the sensor, i was advised that my vehicle was not covered under the recall and that i would have to pay for the repair. i desperately needed the repair because i no longer had any dash speed or fuel level readout and i could not financially afford the dealership estimated charge for the fuel level sensor replacement. i was forced to seek a less expensive repair shop to complete the repair so i could continue to safely drive my vehicle. the sensor unit was replaced april 30, 2010 by a local repair shop at a cost to me of $291.00. unfortunately, the nissan dealership refused to do the free fuel level sending unit replacement that i was entitled to under their march, 2010 recall of over 80,000 2006 pathfinder

Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6) i own a 2006 nissan pathfinder. the fuel-sending unit went out in october of 2009. i took the vehicle to the dealer and was told that it was not covered under the warranty. in march of 2010 my wife heard about the recall campaign regarding faulty fuel-sending units in 2006 pathfinders. when i took the vehicle to the dealer again i was told my vehicle was not part of the recall. i called nissan consumer affairs in october and again in april and no assistance was offered. i was told however that another recall campaign could take place, but at this time there was nothing they would do to cover the repair. the service manager at the dealer informed me that the unit on my vehicle was caused by the same problem the other units involved in the recall had suffered from. i explained this to nissan but to no avail. i am writing this in hopes that there is any information you can offer me to encourage nissan to fix this problem. thank you in advance for your assistance with this matter.  The fuel gauge in my 06 nissan pathfinder is failing. it has been doing so since last november. sometimes the gauge drops to e no matter how much gas is in it and sometimes it reads there is more gas than there actually is. the service engine light remains lit since the first occurance. according to the web, the 06 pathfinders built from jan through march have already been recalled. mine was built in may and the service manager at harrisonburg, va nissan advises i am not eligible for the recall. it is more than obvious to me that my pathfinder, built two months later than the current recalled ones, is having the same exact issue and should also be recalled. i have 3 small children and am very concerned about being on the highway and possibly running out of gas. i carry a full gas can with me, however i do not think this is a safe practice. this is the sixth nissan i have owned since becoming a driver. i have always been more than satisfied with the product. this experience has been quite a disappointment. i am re-evaluating my thoughts on nissan. please help me.

2006 nissan pathfinder, reading posts it seems as though my fuel sensor is bad in my vehicle. fill tank and it still registers a half a tank, this seems to be an ongoing issue with nissans and believe they have installed a faulty part that keeps on failing in all the vehicles they are installed in. from what i understand this does not effect the operation of the car. i believe nissan needs to provide a recall on these nissans that this part was installed and forgo any cost to the consumer. *tr

I own a 2006 pathfinder that i purchased new from the dealership. my issue began with a fill up when i had 1/3 of a tank of gas and found that the needle did not move until the following day. when it did finally register, the service engine light came on. the following week i had 1/4 of a tank of gas and went to fill up. after filling up my gas tank, i turned on the car, at which point the needle did not register the full tank. after driving a couple miles, the needle dropped to empty and the check engine light came on. i had a diagnostic done and it read that there is an issue with the fuel level sensor. i called the dealer and was told that the fuel sensor was not covered under warranty and there are no recalls for this problem. i was amazed there is no action from nissan considering the multitude of entries i discovered on the internet with the exact problem. it appears that this is an ongoing issue with models ranging from 2005-2007. this repair is estimated to cost upwards of $700 from the dealer. this safety issue makes me very uncomfortable to drive any distance and is due to a faulty part that nissan should remedy at no cost to the vehicle owner. the consumer affairs department also informed me there are no recalls for this problem and i will have to let an authorized nissan center diagnose and correct the problem and only gave me a case number to refer to if i was not satisfied. *tr

I have a 2006 nissan pathfinder that just out of the blue, the service engine just came on. i have read in the internet, and there are a lot of complaints about this subject. we are talking about gasoline, a very flammable and explosive liquid, combine that with a defective electrical fuel sensor and we are talking fire or worst. nissan is not doing anything about this, except telling people to replace the sensor. my nissan just went over 39, 000 miles, how convenient, out of warranty. i just hope nobody is waiting for something bad happens before this issue is resolved. thanks *tr

The fuel level indicator does not work on my car. i have no way of knowing when my car is low on fuel other than to keep a running tab on how many miles i have driven since the last fill up of fuel. recently i was driving and my car totally shut off in the middle of the street. i lost my power steering and could not pull over. several cars almost ran directly into my rear as it happened so suddenly. i came to find out that the reason my car stopped was that i was out of gas and had no idea that my fuel was low (due to the fact that the fuel level indicator does not work). my husband has the exact same model vehicle as i do and the same thing happened to him. he had no idea that he was low on fuel and his car cut off in the middle of an extremely busy major atlanta expressway. he had to manually steer his vehicle off of the road and avoid being smashed into by other vehicles traveling at well over 65 mph. since discovering this we both try to keep track of how many miles we've driven since filling up but we never know accurately how many miles we can get per fill up. i've been doing research and have found dozens upon dozens of people with the same problem with their nissan pathfinders. even the repair facility we tried to take it to was aware of this problem as they have people with the same problem almost weekly. i fear that i could get into a serious accident due to the fact that i have no idea that i am low on fuel. i truly believe that a manufacturer recall is in order and the nissan corp is putting it's consumers in harms way by refusing to have this repaired free of charge. *tr

I had 1/4 of a tank of gas on my 2006 nissan pathfinder and went to fill up. after filling up my gas tank, i turned on the car, at which point the needle did not register the full tank. after driving a couple miles, the check engine light came on. i went directly to the dealer and was told that it was a fuel sending unit/sensor and that it was no longer covered after 30k miles. after returning home and doing research, i went online to x.nissanhelp.com after performing a search, i came across many others who have experienced the same problem. apparently it has something to do with the fuel sending unit. a similar problem was found on the 2000-2004 xterra models and a recall was performed when the vehicle would stop after not getting any fuel, posing a great danger(i have to young kids). it seems that something in the unit is faulty and will corrode over time. there is a general consensus that everyone who is having the problem is experiencing the same thing after having the vehicle for over 3 yrs and with around 57k. if this problem existed in previous models, and it was recalled, the 2005-2007 xterras, frontiers, and pathfinders should get this fixed at no charge to the customer!! why wait for accidents and possible deaths, especially since the problem lies in an integral part of the vehicle. paid $300 for the repairs. *tr

About a month ago my wife went to fill up our 2006 pathfinder and when she finished the gas gauge showed only half fill. she went to another gas station tried to fill it up but it only took another dollar. the next day i called up nissan who said it was the sending unit in the gas tank and would be apx $600 to fix. i saw other logs of xterras having this problem and there was a recall. our car was just past the 3 year warranty. if this were the only problem with this car i'd pay to get it fixed. but i've had another but problems with this vehicle. i've gone through 3 sets of rotors and i'm on my 3rd set of tires. the drivers side door lock broke and to be brought in twice, and the bose system has a cd stuck which i can't get out. this happened only after we owned it a few months. *tr

The gas gauge of my 2006 nissan pathfinder will not register a correct amount and the ses light comes on after i fill the tank. then the gauge drops to 0 and the lights start to flash that there is no gas. after awhile the gas gauge fluctuates, but it will not return to full and it is impossible to tell how much gas there is in the car. *tr

I have a 2006 nissan pathfinder with 51,000 miles that has just encountered an bad fuel sending unit. error code p0463. since it has passed the 3yr/36,000 mile warranty, i am going to be paying about $500 to get it fixed. in researching this problem on the internet, i have found out that this is happening to many later nissan models with the same fuel sending unit. thank you for looking into this matter. *tr

2006 nissan pathfinder was purchased new in sept 2006. in 2008 with approximately 53,000 miles on vehicle, the fuel sending unit failed which resulted in my gas gauge not reading and the service engine soon light coming on. massachusetts will not pass for inspection a vehicle with a service engine soon light on. nissan stated that while the fuel pump is part of the power train, the fuel sending unit is not and therefore not covered under the power train warranty. the fix was to be over $400 to the nissan dealer. after writing to mr goshen, nissan north america president, it was eventually covered. i have kids and with the gas gauge not reading, i ran out of gas on the highway, despite my best attempts to track miles driven and relate it to the gas level. nissan has a service bulletin and knows this is an issue. the government should force a recall as thousands have had this same issue with xterras, pathfinders and frontiers. someone will be hurt or worse by their neglect of consumers.*tr

I am having a problem with the gas gauge on my 2006 nissan pathfinder. it just started about 3 weeks ago. i have a constant check engine light on and it was checked out by the mechanic at a nissan dealership and he said it is a sensor problem with the gas gauge. i have not had it repaired yet because i feel that this is should be a recall issue for this vehicle. my vehicle is only 3 years old and has about 46,000 miles on it. i have done some research online and this seems to be a frequent complaint about 2005/2006 nissan pathfinders. this is a safely issue because it makes it nearly impossible to detect when the car is running out of gas. i have been trying to track it manually for the time being. *tr

I have a 2006 nissan pathfinder. i stopped at the gas station to put gas and when i started the engine the fuel level was still reading empty and my dte was reading ----. then my service engine light came on. now the only way i can tell if i have gas or not is by estimating the mileage i have driven. my pathfinder has about 60k miles. i have read many similar complaints about the same problem. *tr

I had 1/2 of a tank of gas and went to fill up. after filling up my gas tank, i turned on the car, at which point the needle did not register the full tank. it continued to register as empty(------) after driving a couple miles, the check engine light came on. after several days the gas did register in the tank. i went to auto zone and had computer tested i was told it was a fuel sending unit/sensor. i have over 60,000 miles on my vehicle and it is not covered under warranty for any problems. after returning home and doing research, i went online to x.nissanhelp.com after performing a search, i came across many others who have experienced the same problem. apparently it has something to do with the fuel sending unit. a similar problem was found on the 2000-2004 xterra models and a recall was performed when the vehicle would stop after not getting any fuel, posing a great danger. it seems that something in the unit is faulty and will corrode over time. there is a general consensus that everyone who is having the problem is experiencing the same thing after having the vehicle for over 2 yrs and with around 39k-49k. if this problem existed in previous models, and it was recalled, the 2005-2007 xterras, frontiers, and pathfinders should get this fixed at no charge to the customer!! why wait for accidents and possible deaths, especially since the problem lies in an integral part of the vehicle. cost of repair ranges from $300-600. *tr

I have a 2006 nissan pathfinder. while driving, i apparently ran out of gas, even though my gas gauge showed i had over a 1/4 tank, and my dte showed 61 miles to go. several times, my gauge would be down to a 1/4 tank, and suddenly jump up to a 1/2, and my dte would increase by about 20-30 miles. it's a good thing i have aaa. they brought me some fuel, and it started right up, and i was able to get to a gas station and fill up. this is equipment failure on nissan's part, and needs to be a recall, as it seems to be a common problem with other owners of both pathfinders, and xterra's. *tr

Known issue with fuel system (nhtsa id # 10v075000) nissan acknowledges problems but put mileage limit on dealer paid repair. (approximately 1300 miles over) apparently defective manufacture issues have time limits regardless of safety issue associated with this. intermittent problems caused delays in identifying this issue. this is a major safety issue that should not have been timetabled, inaccurate and then failure of the fuel gauge. this is a failure of both nissan and the nhtsa to allow mileage to be the determining factor in limiting our safety. *tr

Our nissan pathfinder 2006, fuel level indication fluctuates so that we don't know the true fuel remaining. by filling the gas tank and recording the mileage, we can monitor distance traveled to estimate when the tank will be empty. we also have a service light indication, which i had read by my local mechanic, code # p0463, which says its a fuel level sensor a circuit high input. he says i need to have my fuel tank removed to replace the sending unit located on top of the fuel tank. the dealer wants to charge me $90 for diagnostics, and then it will cost $150 for parts and $500 in labor, total bill $740. i plan to do it myself, parts on line for $98.95, to save $650. i just hope i don't blow-up myself and our house while trying to repair this issue. also, car will not pass inspection until service light is extinguished (due by end of november). vin # 5n1ar18w26c656101 it has 57000 miles

I own a 06 nissan pathfinder. there is a fuel sensor recall on the 06 pathfinders. this sensor estimates how much gas you have left in the tank. approximately at 1/2 tank, the fuel level gauge show the fuel on empty. for some reason my pathfinder is not covered under the recall. i was told by nissan that not all 06 pathfinders were part of the recall even though i am having the same problem. nissan finally said that my extended warranty (that i paid for) would cover the sensor. my out of pocket expense would be a $50 deductible. i asked how many other pathfinders were made with the same batch of fuel sensors/ is anyone else having trouble or am i the only one. they are not able to give me any information besides the day my car was made - aug 29, 2006.

I own a 2006 nissan pathfinder, bought it to my dealer (countyline nissan --ct) to replace a recall fuel tank that may send incorrect reading to the instrumental panel fuel gauge. after 3 visits in one week to this dealer to correct this problem; tonight i am now looking at a 4th visit because today my fuel indictor dropped from a quarter tank to empty with seconds while on the highway. i have seen fill the tank, but still showing empty. i am soooooo frustrated, because, i have to take another day off to fix this problem. i feel hopeless because i seem t have no recourse, i am stuck at going to a dealership that offers no recourse, even though it is obvious that they are not doing something right, i am stuck in a cycle with not even a loner car, until they figure out the problem. i feel unsafe driving this vehicle and i do not know what else to do.

I own a 2006 nissan pathfinder. i took the car in for maintenance a few weeks ago and started to notice that the fuel gauge did not work. even if my tank is fuel, it says i only have a quarter of a tank. last friday i filled up my tank and te gas light came on right after i filled it up. i called nissan and they told me it was ok to drive on and that i need to drive it down to 1/2 or. 1/4 tank otherwise they couldn't do anything about it. i have a one year old baby that i have to drive to doctor appointments. i live on the outskirts of the city and always take the freeway to get around. knowing that my car can stall and shut down is not comforting to me. at this point not sure what to do or who to call. i have been reluctant to drive much so i still cannot bring my car in until the gas gauge drops lower. but i don't really know how much gas i really have since that gauge doesn't even work.

In november 2008 i purchased my 2006 nissan pathfinder se from a private owner. there were approximately 42,000 miles on the vehicle. after having it inspected, i was told it was in great shape and for 1 year i drove it with no significant problems. in november 2009, the gas gague began registering empty when it was on a quarter tank. the dealer replaced the fuel sensor ($400) which resolved the problem. i later found out that there was a recall on the same make/model and for that exact problem just 3 monthes after i had mine repaired, but because my vin# was not on the recall list, i was told my money would not be refunded . not long after this incident with 58,000 miles on my vehicle, i started having transmission problems, i was told by the dealership that even though my transmission is covered up to 60,000 miles, because the problem originated from a faulty seal on my radiator (only covered until 36,000 miles) that leaked antifreeze into my transmission, my transmission repairs were my responsibility. i call nissan corp. to report the problem and the representative informed me that nissan has received multiple complaint calls form owners having the same problem with the same vehicle. she advised me to voice my concerns to you in hopes that you could reslove the matter.

I own a 2006 pathfinder and based on research done online, it's appalling to see how many folks have the same problem and nissan has not recalled the vehicle. i filled up my tank on 6/19, but fuel gauge didn't move from half tank. the check engine light soon came on and stayed on. after discussing with the dealer, it's going to cost about $600 to fix this well known and documented problem on the pathfinders, xterras and frontiers. the issue is a fuel sender sensor that can reduce or stop gas from flowing into the engine. this is a part failure that needs to be corrected by nissan before anyone is injured or results in death due to vehicle stopping in the middle of the freeway. to read that most folks are not fixing the problem due to the financial is just as freighting, but i'm in total agreement. why should anyone have to pay for a known and defective part on a vehicle that is 3 years old with little over 40k miles. this issue has been around for years, going back to 2000. nissan finally recalled the 2000 through 2004 models. they need to do the right thing and recall the 2005 through 2009 models. in this site alone there are over 45 complaints on the 2006 pathfinder. that is on 2006 model year alone. searching through other forums, the complaints litter web pages on the same problem across the nation. someone offered a solution to pull the negative wire from the battery which would reset the check engine light and turn it off. this does not fix the problem, it prolongs it and gives a false sense of security. *tr

My distance till empty gas gauge just stopped working just as my car hit 36,100 miles. my warranty was for 36 months or 36,000 miles. of course this happens that stuff tears up are the warranty is up. two days are the gas gauge goes out the service engine light came on. *tr

2005 to 2008 nissan pathfinder many, many, owners are have the same problem with the fuel sending unit/sensor going bad between 35k to 45k after the warranty expires, which must be a deficit and should be a recall because it could lead to a bigger problem that will possibly stop the fuel pump and cause the vehicle to stop without warning that happen with the nissan xerra suv which was a recall in 2000 to 2004 models. the repair for this fuel sending unit cost approximately $600 dollar to repair and their is no grantee that it will not happen again or if its a upgrade. *tr

Nissan pathfinder gas gauge doesn't work and service engine light stays on. the problem is pervasive and the dealers are charging approx $500 for repairs. nissan has not issued a recall on this defect. running out of gas on the highway is a safety concern and an injury or fatality will result if it has not already. *tr

On several occasions over the past two weeks, my service engine light has appeared and my fuel gage was either stuck or not worry correctly during this period. i took the vehicle in to have the code read and the response was fuel level sensor circuit high input. upon further research on the internet, this appears to be a very common nissan consumers are experiencing and there's an actual service bulletin on this item (ntb07-069a). again, based on the number of complaints i see on this item, it appears to be a manufacturer's defect and would like to recommend as a 'recall item'. *tr thank you, terrance baker

We have a 2006 nissan pathfinder with a fuel gauge that does not work. the vehicle only has about 50k miles on it and should not be having this problem. we took our vehicle to fill it up with gas and when we turned it on it read empty. after a few miles the service light came on and stayed that way. i called the dealership and explained the problem and they informed me that it is a common problem with this vehicle and that i would have to pay around $525.00 dollars to replace the part. they told me that as long as i could figure out that the vehicle had gas i would be fine as long as it didn't run out. this is a tremendous hazard for the public because if i were to be on the freeway at the time the vehicle did run out of gas and didn't indicate it. well, you can be sure that the vehicle would come to a complete halt and so would the pile up behind me. not good! i went online to see if this was a common problem and apparently it is too common and deserves a recall. everyone is paying the dealership to fix this and they are making an enormous profit after knowing that they made these vehicles with faulty products and obviously while the money is pouring in they don't care. someone up the hill has to do something about this! recall needed please! *tr

Service engine soon light popped on. read owners manual. advised to open and re-close gas cap. did that. light did not go out. december 10, gas gauge indicated empty. dte light appeared ------. filled up. gas gauge didn't move. then, december 12, 2008 gas gauge suddenly rose to a little over half tank. dte odometer display shows 78 miles to empty with over half tank. looked up problem online. hundreds of people with same problem in pathfinders and x-terras. no warranty coverage. i have extended warranty. my 2006 pathfinder has 71k on it. nissan says $600 to repair. seems like this is a product/manufacturing defect. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 nissan pathfinder. upon purchasing the vehicle, the contact noticed that the check engine light was illuminated. she was informed that the fuel gauge sensor needed to be replaced. she stated that the fuel gauge indicator needle remains on the empty symbol, even when fuel is in the vehicle. the contact took the vehicle back to the dealer two weeks later to have it repaired. the dealer informed her that the cause of failure was a short in the cluster and the part had to be ordered from puerto rico. the part arrived a week and a half later and the dealer replaced the cluster. one week later, the odometer began to display the incorrect mileage. the odometer was later repaired. two weeks later, the vehicle began making a loud squeaking noise as soon as it was started. the contact took the vehicle back to the dealer and was informed that the cause of failure was the tension belt. the dealer replaced the belt, but later discovered that the part was defective. the belt was replaced again, but the dealer was unsure if the replacement part would be defective as well. the vin, engine size, number of cylinders, speed, and powertrain were unknown. the current mileage was 12,566 and failure mileage was 693.
