I have a pathfinder 2006 with 110,000 miles on january 9, 2012 i take it to the dealership because it was shaking ones i drove over 60 mph the dealer did a multi- point vehicle inspection and they determined that everything was ok except from the four-wheel-drive chaff join th got excessive play and replace it for new one and yesterday march 7, 2013 i took my pathfinder 2006 to royal palm nissan and the service advisor hernando valencia estate it that my car radiator is leaking coolant into the transmission and though that i had to replace it for a new ones and is going to cost me $6400 and he states that that's a common issue with the path finders so if it's a common issue and they do an extended warranties wish there are no good to no body how can they spect a costumer to pay 6400 for a part the they should recall i'm sure i'm not along on this issue and just hope the some busy like you guys can make them do the right thing and stand by their products to avoid any accidents with thousands of vehicles on the road thanks so much for reviewing this lines i apresiated and i hope to hear back from you guys thanks ever such lots

Observed milky puddle under radiator and thick milkly pink fluid in radiator and overflow reservoir. observed during the last 3000miles intermittent vibrations similar to hitting the wake-up strips on the side of a highway shoulder or washer-board road texture. vibrations happened at various times between 1250 to 2250 rpm and 50 to 60mph. tire balance was ruled out as a cause of vibration by mechanic. dealer diagnosis verified cross contamination of the engine coolant and transmisson fluid caused by an internal transmission cooler in the radiator split apart. a mechanic described the damage that would be caused to the transmission from the cross contamination would include severe corrosion. transmission failure is imminent because of the severe leakage. transmission failure is also sudden, because the vehicle was operable even with the presence of a leak. repair of this condition requires replacement of the radiator and transmission and flushing the coolant system. i would not want to replace a faulty radiator with the same, but our mechanic verified that the nissan replacement radiator has been be changed from the original part number. therefore, nissan has revised their radiator but not issued a recall. nissan dealer quotes for repair was $9983.

I first noticed the transmission was not shifting smoothly and the rpm's were revving very high before a shift. i took it to get a transmission flush on 12/22/12.the fluid seemed to be speckled with a darker liquid. the flush seemed to do the trick, but just this week i noticed between 1000 and 1500 rpm at 25-35 mph the vehicle starts to violently jerk until i accelerate and change gears.

2006 nissan pathfinder started having a violent vibration at around 50mph. researched online and found numerous articles regarding this issue. all information i found indicated that the radiator fluid was leaking into the transmission through the coolent line. when i checked my radiator level, the coolent was low, which was one of the indicators that his was my problem. i took my vehicle to the dealership that i bought it from, less than a year ago with 75,000 miles, they tell me that the warrenty only covers vehicles with less that 80,000 miles. when i purchased the vehicle, there was no mention of the issue, only that the pathfinder was a solid, certified pre-owned vihicle. now i will have to pay $3,000 co-pay. everything i have read, indicates that these issues rarely ever start before 80,000 miles. the fact that the industry is letting them get away with this is disgusting to me. i have a wife and two children riding around in a faulty vehicle with a well known issue i can't aford to fix.

This issue is related to nhtsa action number : dp12004 my 2006 nissan pathfinder started having transmission issues at roughly 96,000 miles on 2/1/2013. while driving, the car will sometimes shake and rumble when traveling between 40-55 mph. the car has progressively gotten worse in the 2 weeks that the problem started happening. i took my nissan for repair at berlin city nissan in portland, maine on 2/19/2013 and they stated that the problem is a known issue. the known issue was a design flaw with how the radiator and transmission are integrated together. in summary when there is a cracked atf line in the vehicle, that engine coolant will run through the transmission ultimately causing permanent damage and requiring that the radiator and transmission be replaced. the quote i got today to get the items repaired is $6,700. nissan is aware of this issue and rather than having a recall they increased the warranty duration to 80k miles. from reading on-line, it appears that most people that have had this issue (like me), experience this problem after 80k miles. therefore, nissan does not have to pay for the repair. from reading on-line and talking with the nissan service staff, the problem with my 2006 nissan pathfinder is only going to get worse and ultimately present a driving hazard. i need to make a decision soon whether to make the costly repair or get a new vehicle. i am concerned about the car failing putting myself and my passengers at risk.

I noticed my radiator reservoir was getting low, so i filled again, a week passed and the same thing, i told my brother in law who have some mechanical knowledge and we both check the reservoir unit, and then the radiator cap, and for my sad surprise, there were a oily brown residue, which means that my truck had mixed transmission fluid and anti-coolant, wow what a downside !!! now the cost to repair it is around $3000+ dollars and of course i changed the radiator already, due to the fact of that part being defective, and of course after that happened i received a letter from nissan extending the warranty of the radiator, only if i had less than 80k miles on my truck, so guess what? i am not covered but that warranty !!!! because i have more than 130k anyways, 2 weeks ago i received a class action settlement against nissan !!!!! yeah !!!

Driving on the highway last evening my transmission just blew out. the rpm's went high and i was thrown into first or second gear in an automatic vehicle. i had to weave to get off to the side of the road and out of traffic. it was a huge safety concern for me and my children. there was no warning. i have called nissan this morning and i am being told there is nothing they can do. there are reports, class action law suits, and other complaints all over the internet on the exact issue (radiator fluid is leaking into transmission and causing it failure) and nothing is being addressed by nissan. does someone have to die before this is handled?? horrible business on their part. i know have a truck that should be worth $10,000-12,000 that has a $6,000 fix because of a factory defect and it is my problem?? this is unbelievable.... *tr

Recently i noticed that the vehicle vibrates/shutters at certain speeds causing difficulty with acceleration. i took it to my mechanic and the mechanic told me that after some research he discovered there is a known defect with the radiator/transmission and that i should take it to the dealer. i brought it to the dealer and they informed me that i was 2000 miles over the 100,000 mile extended power train warranty and that i was not eligible for the replacements under warranty (which would have cost me $3,000?). instead if i want the radiator and transmission replaced i would have to pay $7,000-$8,000 which i find very unethical because as a pregnant mother driving around 2 small children this vehicle is unsafe for my family to drive in it's current condition. nissan should recall the defective parts and replace at no cost to the customers, considering the part was defective when built and the consumers were never notified of the potential issues. *tr

I was driving down the highway during rush when all of a sudden my car wouldn't go over 45mph and the rpm went up to 6-7 rpm's as my transmission slipped. i was able to pull my 2006 nissan pathfinder over to the median, but it was too dangerous to exit and check the engine because of the rush hour traffic driving in excess of 65-70mph. i was able to get the truck towed to coggin nissan in jacksonville, fl at my expense. the dealership stated that the transmission cooler line ruptured inside of the radiator allowing coolant and transmission fluid to mix and cross contaminate. they suggested i get a new radiator and transmission. the same dealership sold me the truck and a warranty by fidelity warranty services. the warranty company that is a subsidiary company of the dealership owed by south east toyota (set) denied my claim saying to root of the problem was the radiator. felt like this is a conflict of interest since set owns the warranty company, which would be like asking your boss to pay for something. contacted nissan and haven't heard back. all nissan offered was info on the class action lawsuit which didn't help since this failure in their engineering of the vehicle didn't occur until after 107,710 miles was put on my vehicle. i bought the vehicle with only 93,844 miles on it, and have only had it for a year and a half. i still owe $10,000 and the dealership, warranty company, and nissan have all failed to help fix a known manufacturer defect in the engineering design. i thank god that my pregnant wife was not in the truck with me at the time and we were hit. nissan should take responsibility for their decisions and recall and fix this. all this is doing is causing loyal customers to leave nissan, coggin toyota at the avenues, and fidelity warranty services and expose them and their crooked actions. *tr

Driving on the highway last evening my transmission just blew out. the rpm's went high and i was thrown into first or second gear in an automatic vehicle. i had to weave to get off to the side of the road and out of traffic. it was a huge safety concern for me and my children. there was no warning. i have called nissan this morning and i am being told there is nothing they can do. there are reports, class action law suits, and other complaints all over the internet on thie exact issue (radiator fluid is leaking into transmission and causing it failure) and nothing is being addressed by nissan. does someone have to die before this is handeled?? horrible business on their part. i know have a truck that should be worth $10,000-12,000 that has a $6,000 fix because of a factory defect and it is my problem?? this is unbelieveable....

As i was going down the road and my vehicle started to shake like i was running over the emergency lane vibration strips and lost power. i was in high traffic and was almost rear ended. i had to let off the gas pedal, coast a little then press the pedal again until it shifted into a higher gear. i had it checked by a dealer and turns out the transmission had failed because of a crack in the radiator assembly that allowed coolant to leak into the transmission. a problem that many pathfinder owners have experienced. a problem that nissan knew about in their pathfinders and instead of recalling the vehicles they extended a warranty that leaves the owner paying a $3,000 co pay to have the transmission and radiator replaced for a known problem. *tr

The transmission on my 2006 pathfider began slipping, causing vibrations to the point that my wife did not want to drive the vehicle any longer with our child in it. took it to the dealership and paid the $3000 co-pay to replace the transmission fix the coolant problem. i find this very diappointing due to the fact that it is a known problem with these vehicles. had i known of this possible issue earlier, i may have been able to had the vehicle diagnosed and saved the $3000 co-pay...which we really can't afford to pay! i hope this issue becomes a recall before someone gets hurt!!

Fuel level sensor malfunction, gas gauge shows inaccurate amount of gas in tank. cannot pass deq test until fixed. appears to be ongoing issue with this make & model of vehicle. there needs to be an extension on the recall, very expensive too fix. problem #2 severe transmission vibration at 50-70 mph, cannot operate in overdrive without having transmission causing severe jerking of vehicle. very scary noise especially with little kids in car. there is a service bulletin on this issue and it needs to be moved to a full recall. very dangerous! *tr

Transmission failure due to transmission fluid and engine coolant mixing in the radiator. this is a known problem according to nissan. i was required to pay a $2500 copay to have the repair made. the failure of the transmission could have resulted in an accident since we were on a highway. the failure is catastrophic. my reason for complaint is that nissan is aware of the problem but refuses to issue a recall. instead they offer an extended warranty with copays. i would not have had to pay the $2500 if this was a recall or the failure occurred before 80000 miles. i urge you to force nissan to issue the recall and reimburse the copay. *tr

Took my 2006 pathfinder to a shop for poor heat, and a slight transmission shutter after checking the fluid noticed the anti-freeze was contaminated with transmission fluid and the transmission fluid was milky from the anti-freeze. only having 88,000 miles on car i started looking for reasons and found that there was a crack in the radiator causing it to swap fluids. after speaking with the shop owner he believes it was caught early so there is an off chance that a good flush and transmission service will correct the shutter, how ever i will need to replace the radiator, thermostat, all fluids and the hose assembly that connects the rear heat ( became brittle and cracked from transmission fluid) for a cost off $2000 parts. *tr

Due to an acknowledged defect in a hose leading from the radiator to the transmission, coolant leaked into the transmission causing catastrophic damage. we had to replace the transmission and the defective radiator to the tune of >$4000. nissan recognized there was an issue because they extended the powertrain warranty to just under the mileage where the majority of their customers were beginning to experience issues. when approached, nissan refused to authorize a reimbursement of any sort, not even agreeing to meet halfway, when they knew it was their defective part that was to blame for the damage that was done. nissan hopes that by dismissing people they will give up and not pursue further recourse. i will say now that they are sorely mistaken. there are too many people that have been affected by their negligence. it was a costly and dangerous oversight that needs to end in some sort of resolution. *tr

2006 nissan pathfinder 103k miles. we noticed vehicle would shudder upon acceleration at approximately 40 mph and again at 50 mph. also at times the engine would rev up like it couldn't shift to the next gear. if we slowed down to 50 and re-accelerated to 55 mph, the shuddering became a severe vibration. we took it to an independent mechanic since we had recently a bad experience with our local nissan dealer in fixing another problem (timing chain). the mechanic dropped the transmission pan and found the radiator was leaking coolant into the transmission fluid. mechanic stated we were very lucky to have caught this right away as it could have caused a lot of other problems too lengthy to mention here. mechanic replaced radiator and did a tranny flush but i'm not sure our problems are over. now the fuel gauge registers empty after i have just filled up with fuel, the service engine light came on, and now i am totally stressed out driving anywhere, and especially in traffic. *tr

I had transmission problems, the transmission started vibrating and then would not move, i took to local transmission shop, they advised there was a problem in the radiator causing damage to transmission, i took to nissan dealer they advised that nissan had extended the warranty to 80,000 miles due to the radiator, however nissan had not sent any information regarding a problem are extending the warranty. if i had known there was a problem with radiator, i would have had it checked prior to the 80,000 miles. then nissan sends letter that they are extending warranty to 100,000 miles with a 3,000 dollar deductable. if i had received a letter earlier from nissan about the problem, i would have taken the nissan to a dealer prior to the 80,000 miles. at times the transmission would stall out when making a turn, which could have caused a serious accident; fortunately there were no on coming traffic. the car also has a fuel gauge which gives a false reading at all times to the actual amount of fuel in the tank due to a faulty sending unit. so now i am stuck with a bill for 3,000 dollars. i feel nissan was negligent in not advising their customers of the problem earlier. the dealer then called me and told me that the timing chain was worn and needed to be replaced at a cost of 2,000 dollars. my nissan has less than 100.000 miles and the radiator, transmission and timing chain are faulty, and nissan should cover these charges

The transmission is slipping. the vehicle will suddenly lose its ability to move while under power. checked transmission oil. the level is good but the fluid is milky in color. the fluid should be a clear, colored liquid. suspect transmission line inside the radiator is fractured allowing coolant to mix with the transmission fluid.

Brief description of what happened.. i purchased a 2006 nissan pathfinder, local trade at a dealership. after i purchased the vehicle some days later i started to notice the vehicle shifted very hard, started more frequently as the vehicle was on the road longer.. felt like it slammed into each gear!!! i was driving across a bridge one morning and its a 2 lane bridge and all of a sudden my rpms redline and feels like im in 3rd gear, all the cars behind swerve into the next like cause i was go the speed limit then the car drops down very rapidly in speed.i tried to accelerate but the vehicle just started to shake a little and the rpms just redlined. i get it to a local shop, come to find out that the radiator fluid leaked into the transmission and messed everything up.. all in all the shop tells me the radiator and transmission is shot and needs to be replaced.and my total bill would be close to $4,000 dollars... very disappointed in nissan!!! lost all faith and will stick to honda from now on!!!!! *tr

I own a 2006 nissan pathfinder, first my fuel sensor failed, and now at approx 92,000 miles my vehicle has this horrible vibration at 45mph and 60 mph. after thinking it was my tires off balance and having them serviced and an alignment done, i decided to do some research online and called my nissan service dept. to my surprise this is a very common problem with this vehicle and it is a problem with the transmission and radiator fluids mixing, causing the tranny to fail. if this is not a major safety concern i am not sure what is. please review, it will cost the consumer approx $8,000 to fix and not to mention the inconvenience. if this were an isolated incident i would not complain, but there are a massive amount of complaints. i even contacted nissan corp. and after 3 weeks i am still waiting on a return call. i do highway driving and have 3 children in my vehicle daily. this is a major concern. *tr

I purchased a 2006 nissan pathfinder in 2009. it had 64000 miles and i paid $18500. of course the dealer did not inform me of the issue. since i have purchased this car (one previous owner) i have had to replace two cat converters, a radiator, a pressure gauge, and now a transmission because the radiator fluids and transmission fluids are mixing. it causes the car to jerk uncontrollably out of nowhere while in normal operation. when i brought the car in for service, the service adviser had me change the radiator and the transmission maintenance. this costs me $1650. two cat converters, $3200. now they said i need a new transmission for $5000+. there have been over 5000 complaints regarding this safety issue, and the nhtsa has not issued a recall. this is unbelievable. will someone have to be killed first in a pathfinder for something to be done? the car is very dangerous to drive. nissan is well aware of this problem and could care less. i have been spoken to nissan north america, they have decided i was one not worthy of help due to mileage. the problem i have is nissan knows and understands this will happen to their cars eventually. it is not only pathfinders, but also frontiers, maximas, altimas, etc. read all of the blogs. it is a joke. nissan needs be held accountable for the design flaw. they are having their customers pay for nissan's problem. usa nissan customers need your help. nissan needs to be punished for their inaction. nissan has also settled a class action lawsuit as well regarding this issue. please do something before somebody gets killed! *tr

My nissan has 108,000 miles, always had all required maintenance transmission makes a clank at 15 to 20 mph and vibrates severely when i lower the speed or try to regain the speed from 40 or 60 mph. it also drags, losses power and vibrates when going up hill on lower speed say 20 mph. internet information, reveals that the cause is radiator water leak to the transmission. nissan is aware of this. the pathfinder also has motor oil, leaks, in the oil filter area internet search revealed malfunctioning, faulty part both condition is known by nissan corp office internet search has reveals extensive complaints just like mines and nissan does nothing about it for both please request a recall motor oil, leaks, in the oil filter area. *tr

Vehicle started shuddering and lost propulsion on the highway. after this incident it began slamming into gears and would not go in reverse. looked online and saw that many people are having the same issue. i brought the car to the dealer to be told that the radiator failed causing coolant and transmission fluid to mix, causing incorrect internal transmission pressure, and internal failure. nissan refuses to take accountable action and repair the failures. this is obviously a defect and in no way should the consumer be responsible. thankfully nobody was behind me on the highway when this happened as i had my three kids in the car.

Transmission went out while driving in traffic. started lurching and lost speed. almost got hit. had the transmission rebuilt plus the torque converter rebuilt. 10/15/2012 transmission started slipping again and losing power. at mileage 169,886 mechanic told me coolant was leaking into the tranmission. repaired again and brought home on 10/18/2012. that evening taking my son to football practice, lost power going 50 mph and almost got rear ended. i'm done with this dangerous vehicle but i don't want anyone driving it. *tr

Radiator/ transmission failed causing breakdown radiator was affected as well as when the interior components of the radiators (internal transmission coolers) broke down allowing coolant to mix with the transmission fluid. as a result of the contamination, the transmission and other drive train components were damaged and required replacement. *tr

We drove our 2006 nissan pathfinder and parked it in the morning. when we attempted to start it that afternoon, it would not start and had to be towed. the nissan dealership did a diagnostic test and informed us that the radiator had leaked into the transmission and both were ruined and had to be replaced. the estimate for repair was $8,719. we contacted nissan corporate in tennessee to file a complaint only to be told that they were aware of this problem with 05, 06 and 07 nissans, they had increased the manufacturer's warranty to 80,000 miles, and were not able to help me in any way. my vehicle had over 81,000 miles on it when i bought it. this problem should have been addressed before they sold me the vehicle. i paid $2,000 for an extended warranty and $600 for gap insurance, neither of which will help in any way. i still owe $14,000 on the car. nissan should do a recall for everyone's benefit. they should fix my vehicle at no charge. they knew about the problem. *tr

Vehicle engine started skipping while in motion, engine temperature went up to overheated and speed automatically reduced itself to no more than 35mph on the road, caused traffic to avoid vehicle from hitting in the rear end. had to drive small roads to get home. nissan service fixed coolant pump but we found out later this was not the issue as less than 6 months later the engine overheated again, only this time the radiator leaked coolant into the transmission fluid and ruined the entire transmission. we find out that nissan has hundreds or thousands of such incidents and have not issued a recall. our cost to repair is $8,700 for a 6 year old vehicle with less than 100,000 miles on it. *tr

Major issues with my 2006 nissan pathfinder. intermix with coolant and transmission fluid. the nissan dealership knew after a few moments from lifting my hood. the mechanic explained it would cost over $1500 to replace the radiator and flush the transmission and advised me to come back after 10k miles. after having the radiator ($800) replaced i was on the highway for less than a mile and my rpms were revving high when i accelerated and the truck was obviously stuck in gear. took pathfinder back (two days) to mechanic and found the radiator contaminated once again and needing a new transmission which will cost $2500 that i don't have and i can't afford a new vehicle. i'm making payments on a car i can't drive. my husband is driving a 2005 altima which is having similar problems and just haven't broken down complete. nissan should recognized this issue and address asap. *tr

The 2006 nissan pathfinder has an issue with the radiator (coolant) leaking into the transmission. truck began to shudder as if driving on rumble strips. leaking fluid causes what first starts out as a rumble during shifting around 40 mph, then eventually leads to a seize of the transmission which can occur at any time. should the transmission fail while in traffic it could cause a accident. the vehicle was taken to transmission shop and they advised that the transmission needed to be replaced. the failure and the current mileages were 103,800 miles. *tr

I was driving my 2006 nissan pathfinder on a highway in light traffic at about 60 mph when i began to hear a high-pitched whine from the engine area. when i started to accelerate after stopping at a traffic light, the vehicle bucked, or lurched forward, and began to shake. there was no one in front of me at the time; if another vehicle had been in my path, i would have slammed into it. i was able to exit the highway without incident and drive/coast to a safe place where i immediately called for a tow truck. the repair shop at the nissan dealership informed me that the radiator fluid had leaked into the transmission and caused the transmission to fail. nissan apparently knew about this problem but did not suggest that the potentially defective radiator be replaced before it led to transmission failure.

I use this vehicle to commute to and from work. i currently serve in the u.s. military and must drive over causeways that are located over water to get to work. the vibrations from the failing transmission cause a major concern when going over these causeways. if the transmission were to fail going 50 mph it could cause a major accident possibly killing my family, me and possibly many more. today i was taking the family out for dinner. on our way i drove over the causeway driving 55 and came to an exit. as i was exiting, the vehicle started jerking vigorously. thankfully there was enough room to control the vehicle to bring it to a stop. now the vehicle will not drive past 1st gear, so obviously i had to get it towed. nissan must address the problem immediately before someone gets killed, but we all know that's exactly what they are waiting for. *tr

(latter it would not go into reverse.) i pulled off to the side of the road and turned off the vehicle, decided to try and nurse it in first gear until i got it home. it seem to work fine. my understanding after searching the internet there is a know problem with nissan frontier and coolant getting into the transmission.

While driving on a very bust highway towing our 3000 lb boat our suv began to shutter and slow down swiftly causing traffic to swerve dangerously around our boat and car and potentially cause a major pile up. apparently, the defect in the radiator and transmission lines caused the fluids to mix, overheating and damaging our transmission. we were unaware of this potential problem since we bought this car in a private sale 2 weeks prior to this incident. luckily a crisis was averted, however it had the potential for a catastrophic consequences because the vehicle slowed down without touching brakes therefore not signaling to following vehicles that we were indeed slowing rapidly. *tr

This began intermittently showing problems on the highway, during acceleration (after letting off the gas pedal to slow) the car would start to shake slightly and lose power before again running smoothly in may 2011. later it started to do it at slower speeds during acceleration. then it would sometimes have one or two clunks during acceleration, before again running smoothly. we took our car again to our mechanic in may 2012, and found that the radiator had been leaking, then gushed into the transmission. we replaced the radiator, and flushed the transmission to help fix the issues. the issues still continue today, although we rarely drive the car and can not afford to purchase an new transmission. *tr

Going 70 mph the vehicle started shaking real bad the rpm gauge was going nuts. brought the vehicle to a stop then tried to start it again the vehicle jumped uncontrollably. parked it and had it picked up by a towtruck. was diagnosed with a faulty transmission and radiator. faulty valve on radiator contaminated transmission. i am so glad that me and my daughter were ok this was very scary. *tr

I was driving home from a weekend vacation in ocean city, md with 2 of my children in my 2006 nissan pathfinder. approximately 45 minutes into the drive on route 1 in de, the vehicle abruptly 'jumped' and then slipped out of gear. luckily, i was able to coast into the right lane and then pull to the side of the road. if not, we could have been hit by any vehicles that were behind us. for a brief time, i was able to get the vehicle to slowly drive in 1st gear and pull into a parking lot of a gas station/convenience store. i couldn't get it to go back into drive after that point. we then had to wait 2 1/2 hours to be picked up by my husband. the car was towed to a local shop and diagnosed as needing a new transmission. the price quoted was extremely high (probably because they knew we were out of state), so we opted to have the vehicle towed back to our town of residence to a transmission shop. the shop indicated that they have seen this problem many times in 2005-2007 nissan pathfinders. the radiator cracks, and the coolant leaks into the transmission, which ends up destroying the transmission. this appears to be a known defect. $6000 later, i now have a repaired nissan pathfinder. nissan needs to issue a recall and fix these known issues. they also need to reimburse customers who have experienced these issues and have had to pay for the repairs out of pocket. *tr

I was driving on i 20 hwy in atl ! i was going to pickup my kids from six flags amusement park. i was driving in the center lane, and out of the clear blue, my car cutoff, and indicated a slip light come on ! i was lucky the cars around me did allow me to pull over to the side of the road ! when i was lucky enough to pull over,i began to start my car backup, and surprisingly it did start backup. i was able to pickup my kids, and i did drive no faster than 60 miles an hour when i did take my daughter's friends home ! this surprise incident, could have taken my life easily ! thanks to other drivers being surprisingly accommodating and letting me pull off the road without my car having any power ! *tr

I bought this vehicle in june 2011 from benson nissan in spartanburg, sc. i had no idea about the radiator/transmission problems these vehicles were having &of course it wasn't mentioned in the sale. it was already slightly past the 80,000 mile warranty (the previous owner was obviously aware of problems) for the radiator. less than 2 weeks after purchase i told the sales person &a mechanic that the car was jerking at around 60 mph when changing gears. the mechanic blamed ?bad gas? & ?ethanol? & assured me it wasn't the transmission. less than a month later, i took it back to the dealer?s &told them the car was still jerking at 60mph &asked them about the transmission. they again told me there was not a problem with the transmission. the car continued to shake worse when shifting &i continued to call nissan &complain. the sales person even offered to trade the car in for me, but reneged when his manager declined because i ?got too good of a deal on that car &(they) couldn't trade it back.? the shaking began to get worse &spread to lower gears &i accepted the fact that i was sold a lemon. through all this, no one at the nissan dealership mentioned the transmission or radiator problem. i found out about it only after i began to research how to repair it myself &by then all i could do was pray. barely one year after purchase while on the way to my parent?s house with my child in the back seat, &while on a busy highway, the car stuck in 2nd gear. i barely got it to my parent?s house &endured a lot of angry drivers around me. it cost $3700 to rebuild the transmission &replace the radiator that leaked into the transmission &finally after getting it back the jerking while shifting has stopped. i should've been informed about the transmission problem at purchase or at least after complaining &nissan needs to make good on their faulty parts before someone is really hurt. *tr

Our 2006 pathfinder had started shuttering in the transmission about a week before it just gave out on the side of the road. i took it to an independent transmission repair shop, who told me that the radiator fluid had gotten into the transmission and ruined it. i did some checking on the internet and found that i was not the only one that has had this problem. nissan has known this was a problem and has not sent any notices or recalls. i also had another problem recently with the ecm relay, that left it on the side of the road. after research found that a recall was issued and no notice was sent out. i was thankful that nissan replaced the relay. we have call nissan customer service about the transmission, but i do not believe they will help due to the mileage. this should have been addressed when it was discovered with a new radiator and a complete transmission service. *tr

Went to dealership and notified them of shuddering when driving in excess of 40mph and check engine light on. was told by the service department that the transmission fluid is 'milky' as a result of coolant mixing in with automatic transmission fluid due to a crack in the radiator. advised repairs to include a transmission cooler would be in excess of $8,000+. also advised that mileage of 91,033 voided extended warranty. (3 years, 80,000 miles) vehicle is non-operable due to total transmission failure.

*tr

While doing regular vehicle maintenance on my vehicle, found coolant had leaked into my transmission fluid. as a result of finding this problem, and not having the financial resources to fix it at the time, i stopped driving the vehicle on a consistent basis for around 18 months. i did the best i could to fix it by bypassing the defective transmission cooler under the radiator and flushing the transmission of contaminated fluid. since discovering this problem i have driven approximately 6,000 miles, and now the transmission is slipping badly and when it shifts, the transmission shifts very hard. as a result of this transmission cooler failure i am now looking at being forced to replace my transmission.

Just purchased 2006 pathfinder from local (jeep/dodge) dealer. was literally driving it home from the lot when i encountered vibration and near loss of control at freeway speeds. i was able to get the vehicle home and after checking the fluids found a milky white (atf?) fluid in the coolant/radiator. the vehicle has 87500 miles and i'm beside myself right now. the dealer i purchased the vehicle from seems willing to work with me to remedy the situation but i'm not sure if they'll pay for a new transmission and radiator...? after a couple of minutes of investigation on the internet found the mass of folks dealing with the same radiator/transmission failure problem. i've got an appointment with the local nissan dealer this week... we'll see what happens. nhtsa please help the hundreds if not thousands of nissan owners dealing with this obvious defect!

Driving between 35-60 mph my 2006 pathfinder was shaking as if i were on a rumble strip. it continued to worsen as the week progressed. i took it into the dealer and was told that both front and rear u-joints were loose and needed to be replaced. with only 81000 miles on my vehicle i asked if this was premature for both u-joints to fail at the same time. i was told it is considered normal wear and tear. the cost of replacement was $1200.

At first incident, the transmission would start slipping causing a vibration while the overdrive was on, the vibration would go away when out of overdrive. then the car would stall when you would try to take off at a stop, the car would not move until you would turn the car off and crank it again. as you would pull out into traffic the car would not go. then even with the car out of overdrive while at speeds at 55 mph or higher the transmission would not work, you would have to let off on the accelerator and wait on the rpm's to drop and then it would go into gear again.i took the car to a local mechanic and he advised the trouble was in a solenoid in the transmission. i took the car to a transmission shop, they checked the fluid and said there was water in the transmission fluid, caused by a coolant leak from inside of radiator getting into the transmission lines causing the transmission to go bad due to coolant into the transmission.

As has been reported by many our 2006 pathfinder has been found to have antifreeze in the transmission and we are now told it will take 4500 dollars to fix. this is no doubt a manufactures defect as there was no way to prevent this from happening or knowing for for sure when it did. this suv has been maintained by professionals and they did not catch it, i believe nissan knew about this based on actions they have taken and now should have to repair these vehicles

Vehicle problem started with ecm/ipdm power train which stool on me. replace for a cost of $17-1800. i paid about $1500-$1800 to get the ecm fixed and ipdm replaced. i was informed that my vehicle needed 2front converters for a cost of $2500. i contacted nissan manufacturers and expresses my concerned. nissan manufacturers did not want to pay attention to my concerns, but after about 3-5months of non stop complaining, nissan manufacturers issued a recalled on the ecm and refunded my money, but refuses to fix my converters. in march 2011, i got a recalled noticed from nissan manufacturers about a leak of coolant into transmission, so i took my vehicle to the dealership and the dealership refused to do the required inspection and claimed that my vehicle had more miles than the manufacturers required mile; and yes, my vehicle at that time was not 5years. two weeks later my transmission went into heavy smoke with a strong rotten egg odor while i was driving. i was told that valve body inside my vehicle transmission is burned and to replace it for a cost of about $3000+, and sensor need to be replace as well and the 2 converters. nissan gave me a bill of over $5000.

Verified at local dealership that radiator coolant is mixing with transmission fluid which causes rough shifting and car to shake at certain speeds. this is a serious safety issue as car can suddenly lose power/break down while driving. radiator and transmission need to be replaced. we received nissan's extended warranty (8 yr/80,000 miles) on radiator last year. car is only 800 miles out of warranty, however nissan will not cover the cost of replacing the radiator and transmission. nissan needs stand by its product and issue a recall for this problem.

I purchased my certified pre-own 2006 pathfinder with only 37,000 miles on it and i properly maintained it. december 2010 i noticed that my truck would lose power and sputter while driving at a speed between 40 to 60 mph, and that it would also tremble or shake while shifting gears. i took my truck to the dealer to have it serviced and tuned up. i was informed that the radiator was leaking into the transmission and that i needed to have both replaced. i couldn't see straight! i asked the service tech why in the hell i would need a new transmission on a vehicle with just over 100,000 miles and that i'm still paying for no less. the tech suggested that the transmission could be saved and i would still have to buy a new radiator and other parts. a year later- 03/12 my truck is behaving the same way so instead of returning to the dealer i decided to take it to a transmission specialist. when i informed him of my problem he asked if i had any problems with the radiator, as a matter a fact i told him i had it replaced a year ago because it was leaking into the transmission. he informed me that he's had a number of pathfinder owners coming to his shop about this very problem, and informed me that there was a class action lawsuit against nissan. i found the lawsuit on the web against nissan and since contacted the attorney and joined in the law suit. up until the moment i had this problem i was a loyal nissan owner, even back to the days when my father owned a datsun and it became my first car. it's one thing to replace a transmission simply due to normal wear, it's another to have consumers do so because of faulty design from the dealer. i'm disappointed that nissan would treat and handle their customers this way.

My vehicle started (mar 2010) to vibrate at between 45 and 65 mph, it felt like i was going over a rumble strip. brought it to dealer they diagnosed a bad universal joint. ten months (jan 2011) later it happened again, additionaly car was shifting poorly and felt like it couln't find the correct gear between 45 and 65 mph, dealer said i need a new transmission. when they dropped the driveshaft they said it was just a universal joint between the transmission and the driveshaft. the problem reoccured in mar 2012, brought vehicle to local mechanic (vehicle was no longer under warranty) who consuleted a transmission shop. was told that radiator fluid was leaking into transmission through a faulty hose/line in the radiator and vehicle now need a transmission overhaul and new radiator. i am concerned that transmission could fail catastrophicaly on highway leading to an accident and injury.

Noticed hesitation in lower gears with minor vebration. sent the pathfinder for an early service to have them look it over. explained to them the problem i was having. they test drove the vehicle and did not notice any problem. they checked the cadilitic converter. it was fine. they recomended maybe replacing the spark plugs would help. it did not help. one week later the vibration was longer and more violent. discovered online that people were having problems with the oil cooler. i checked the transmission fluid and it was over full and grity. the radiator was low and had oil in it from the trans. i have been told they could repair it for $750-$7,000. i had them do 95% of all the services and i bought the car new from nissian. 6 years later my vehicle is worthless.

Vehicle (2006 nissan pathfinder) going approximately 55mph on interstate began to experience problems after being switched into four-wheel drive. when attempting to switch out of 4 wheel drive the vehicle would not switch back to 2x2. after parking, turning off the vehicle and turning back up, upon switching in to reverse the car thumped and switched, the impact of the thumb caused the vehicle to accelerated in reverse at higher than controllable speed, thus causing the vehicle to crash in the objects behind. the vehicle was towed into an auto dealer. after inspection is was discovered that the coolant tube had leaked, causing transmission/radiator fluid to leak. i was informed that if the complications from the leakage have occurred earlier, it was more than likely, highly feasible, that i would have lost control of the vehicle. the combination of the inability to get the 4x4 to lock and change, along with the transmission problems, compounded by the recent engine problems (which i was just informed of) could have been fatal, not just for all passengers in my vehicle, but all those around me on the interstate. nissan needs to have a complete recall of all of these transmissions.

About 10,000 miles ago i noticed a vibration at 40 and 60mph. i took it to a local dealer who replaced two u joints and sent me on my way. well, vibration is back, not only that now that it is winter, my vehicle wont warm up from an idle. it never blows hot air. these are a couple of symptoms that going forward show the radiator leaking into the transmission causing damage to the gaskets, seals, gears, torque converter. please help the radiator obviously need replacing but not only that the transmission is messed up and stalls out now from time to time. it is really expensive to replace and should be covered under a recall program so it forces nissan to recall just the radiators beofre they start leaking.

I had no idea that the transmission would fail on my pathfinder, after finding out that thousands of pathfinder owners experienced the same safety issue i am concerned. nissan tells me they know there is a problem with the radiator and will leak coolant into transmission causing the failure.it will cost around $ 5,000 to repair ,money i don't have. some one is going to get hurt or worse if this failure was to cause a crash. why has nissan not been forced to recall and correct their faulty equipment?

Nissan issued an extended warranty to replace faulty radiators and transmissions affected by these faulty radiators yet did not increase the warranty by the normal 12mo 12,000 mile instead they increased it to 96months and only 80,000 miles not 96,000 miles simply because most failures happen over 80,000 miles. they also claimed this was not a safety recall....when the radiator affects the transmission and the vehicle can stall during driving...how is this not a safety issue. this is from their letter informing consumers: in vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions, a crack in the radiator assembly might occur at higher mileages leading to internal leakage of engine coolant. while the majority of vehicles will not experience this issue, nissan is extending the warranty as it applies to the radiator assembly to demonstrate our commitment to stand behind our products and our customers. nissan is extending your vehicle's new vehicle limited warranty as it applies to the radiator assembly and its component parts from 36 months/36,000 miles to 96 months/80,000 miles, including damage, repairs, replacement, and related towing resulting from this issue.a crack in the radiator is caused from thermal schock...which nissan knew about before installing the original radiator in my vehicle. i know this because they applied for a patent on jan 24,2006 which was published sept 2006 therefore they knowingly installed radiators that would undergo thermal shock ie crack. see the entire publication where they are filing for a patent recognizing the existing problematic radiators: vehicle cooling system, publication number us20060196634,application number us/11/337437,assignees nissan motor co ltd calsonic kansei corporation, inventors sato yousuke ishikawa takayuki iwasaki mitsuru filing date 24 jan 2006publication date 07 sep 2006 make nissan replace all defects

While driving down the street at approximately 45mph the vehicle suddenly loss forward moving power but the engine would rev to a high rpm, causing a dangerous situation with the other traffic on the road while we attempted to coast to the side of the road. upon taking the car to the dealer, i was informed that the radiator had experienced an internal failure causing antifreeze to enter and contaminate the transmission causing that to become damaged beyond repair. although the power train (which i imagine includes the transmission) was still under manufactures warranty up to 60,000 miles, i was told it would not qualify for a warranty repair since it was determined that the radiator was the cause of the transmission failure and the radiator was only covered under a 3 year or 36,000 mile warranty. the repair costs for both were quoted to me from the dealer to be ~$6,000.00 for a new radiator and transmission. it is also my understanding nissan has recently started to extend the warranty on certain pathfinders faulty radiators (based off of vin number) and would also reimburse anyone who already had to pay for this repair out of pocket. i have not received a letter from nissan to-date stating my vehicle has qualified for this plan. even though it is obvious to me (and the nissan dealer) that my radiator was faulty therefore causing the damage beyond repair to my transmission as well. i feel i should be reimbursed for this very expensive repair since it was caused out of no fault of my own. due to the extremely high dealer quote, i opted to have the vehicle repaired at an independent certified repair shop for ~$4,000.00 for which they installed a newly warranted transmission and radiator package. i was told they only sell the replacement transmissions with the radiators included, confirming to me that this type of failure is known to the industry as a combined failure.

My check engine light would come on and off along with the gas gage going crazy from empty to full. they replaced sensor after having to beg (cost would have been 700 dollars). this was just out of warranty. at about 50,000 miles my check engine light was on and they said they needed to replace a fuel sending sensor which cost me 300 dollars when when it was in for that i needed both u joints replaced because the steering wheel and car wobbled horribly when hitting about 50 miles an hour. this wobble was horrible and thought it was the tires.. then had to eplace two u joints ( second time since owning this 2006 pathfinder).. i wish nissan would step to the plate and recall the sensors and u joints.. its like everything happens just miles out of warranty. probably last nissan i will buy because of all the problems.

Vehicle coming to a complete stop when the transmission control module failed due to an electronic short resulting from a radiator cooling line rupturing and flooding the transmission. this is a 2006 nissan pathfinder. i checked on line and was surprised (amazed) at the number of individuals who have had the same problem. there are even class action lawsuits pending related to nissan knowingly aware of a defective radiator cooling line that breaks mixing into the transmission. my vehicle has been diagnosed by a nissan dealership quoting $6,500 to replace the transmission and radiator. nissan also extended the factory warranty to 80k miles when it was discovered that there was a defective part. thank you...but, they never notified me that there was a problem. and, you don't know there is one until it fails and creates the problem. this is very dangerous....as the car will die if the module shorts out. it is the same module that tells the electronic ignition system that the vehicle is in park. my opinion, nissan being aware of the defective part, in collusion with a vendor who provided the part....is darn near not only fraud but conspiracy. i pinged several dealerships who openly advised of the defective part and the number of vehicles they have fixed. i asked the dealer how long to get a transmission...i was advised that the one required to fix the 2006 nissan had 148 transmissions on back order. i should expect 4 to 6 weeks to get one. but, of course...my warranty is expired....i was also advised that the line that ruptures normally does between 90 and 110k miles. this is not only a safety issue...it is down right fraud and deceptive practices. deceptive, because of not notifying owners....fraud by knowingly having a defective part on a vehicle.

Transmission stutter during acceleration due to radiator fluid leaking into transmission. fuel gauge gives false readings at all times to the actual amount of fuel in tank due to faulty sending unit.

We need to look into the transmissions on 2005 and 2006 nissan pathfinders and frontiers. finding several other people who have experienced the same issues. it seems to be a bigg problem to the tune of over $7000.

Nissan knows they have an issue with radiator coolant leaking into transmissions. this causes the transmission to fail. should the transmission fail while in traffic it could cause and accident. i own a 2006 nissan pathfinder that i bought through my local nissan dealership brand new. it has 85000 miles on it and the transmission will no longer go in reverse. nissan extended the warranty to 80000 knowing that most were failing after that mileage. they refuse to help with the problem. my vehicle has sat at the dealership for 2 weeks waiting for them to decide not to fix it. this vechile also has a fuel system problem that was recalled for some 2006 models but not all. mine was not covered under the recall and the warranty extension was usless also as the part failed just after the milage given. in 2008 i was in a front end collision with this same vehicle and the air bag did not deloy. when i asked the nissan dealership (same one) why it didnt deploy i was told that i didn't hit the car on center therefore i missed the sensor. after them having my vechile for nearly a month to repair it i had it back 1 week when i received a recall notice for the airbag sensor. this car is extremly unsafe and nissan knows it.

Nissan 2006 pathfinder needed a new battery. changed the battery and took for a test drive. very sluggish from zero to 30 miles per hour. not able to accelerate at all. was told i needed a new transmission but i was 6,000 miles over the warrenty, so nissan said too bad. i do not understand why a car with 86,000 miles needs a new transmission. why is nissan not standing by their product? if this is a common problem why is nissan not standing up for their customers?

While operating the vehicle, moderate to heavy vibration occurred followed by an extreme loss of power. thankfully i was not on an expressway. took to dealer and was told transmission was contaminated with coolant, requiring a replacement of the radiator and transmission, approximately $5,000. while there, it was inferred that this has been a recurrent problem with this model. there were 2 other vehicles there that day with similar complaints. the dealer (first team nissan) has submitted to nissan north america a request for some relief. the vehicle currently has 100,000 miles on it, but i believe strongly, based on various web searches and some complaints on this site, that there is a manufacturing defect that needs to be addressed. i have not heard back from the dealer or the manufacturer about this. the dealership said they handle these on a 1st come 1st served basis and he believes they have a very large back-log of complaints. the problem was diagnosed by the dealer may 3, 2011.

I purchased a 2006 certified nissan pathfinder in 2008. i was guarrenteed 100k engine and power train warrenty. i currently have 96,426kmiles and the transmission gave out about 1 month ago in saline ks. i took the car to the nissan dealer in kansas and was told that it would be covered. however after waiting over a month for the part nissan stated that the transmission gave out because of the transmission cooling system leaking therefore the transmission is not covered. i have contacted nissan corp directly and have received the same answer. this is hazardus because the transmission gave out without warning during a snow storm. lickly the car mannaged to coast to the side of the road. i had my car shipped back to my home in clarksville tn. and was informed by the delivery driver that the parts were in the back of my car. so now i have a car that was taken apart but not fixed with a bunch of parts in the cargo area and about $2000 in debt for a rental car and shipping the car back too clarksville. since i have had this problem i have found out that the transmission and cooling systems have been malfunctioning since 2004.

This is in reference to the 2005 and 2006 nissan pathfinders and the failing in-radiator transmission coolers allowing coolant into the transsmission causing them to fail. my 2006 has not failed but i am replacing the radiator today to stay ahead of the potential failure. (i am a mechanic and after reviewing approx 200 internet posts see the issue very clearly) you are welcome to the radiator i will be removing for a forensic evaluation of the internal transmission cooler, i have maintained my vehicle religiously and this would be a good indicator if there are corrosion issues with proper maintenance and low mileage. just let me know where you would like it sent.

Nissan 2006 pathfinder models come with defects that nissan will not take responsiblity for. the fuel sending unit on this vehicles are defected and can cause people to run out of gas and put themselves in danger. also the radiator can cause a leek and send fluid into the transmission causing possible accident. nissan refuses to admit this is a recall problem.

I purchased a 2006 nissan pathfinder off the showroom floor at my local nissan dealership in july 2006. in august of 2006, the fuel pump assembly had to be replaced. in 2007, the fuel level unit had to be replaced. in 2009, the fuel module had to be replaced. now, the transmission problems have begun. the dealer refuses to repair even though they are aware of numerous complaints from pathfinder owners. i am out of money and patience with this vehicle. nissan should issue a recall.

I own a 2006 nissan pathfinder, radiator fluid leaked from radiator into transmission according to transmission specialist. leaking fluid causes what first starts out as a rumble during shifting around 40 mph, then eventually leads to a seize of the transmission which can occur at any time. i am afraid to drive the vehicle until issues can be resolved. this leak has ruined my transmission requiring a new transmission/radiator which adds up to a price of around 5-8000 dollars. this vehicle has been serviced regularly and only has 70,000 miles. i believe this to be a serious safety concern nissan is trying to hide from the consumer and should be addressed asap.

In november 2008 i purchased my 2006 nissan pathfinder se from a private owner. there were approximately 42,000 miles on the vehicle. after having it inspected, i was told it was in great shape and for 1 year i drove it with no significant problems. in november 2009, the gas gague began registering empty when it was on a quarter tank. the dealer replaced the fuel sensor ($400) which resolved the problem. i later found out that there was a recall on the same make/model and for that exact problem just 3 monthes after i had mine repaired, but because my vin# was not on the recall list, i was told my money would not be refunded . not long after this incident with 58,000 miles on my vehicle, i started having transmission problems, i was told by the dealership that even though my transmission is covered up to 60,000 miles, because the problem originated from a faulty seal on my radiator (only covered until 36,000 miles) that leaked antifreeze into my transmission, my transmission repairs were my responsibility. i call nissan corp. to report the problem and the representative informed me that nissan has received multiple complaint calls form owners having the same problem with the same vehicle. she advised me to voice my concerns to you in hopes that you could reslove the matter.

Transmission stalling vehicle making vehicle jump. called nissan motors about transmission problems. have read on boards this problem with transmission and radiator is very common in these vehicles. vehicle just all of the sudden starts jumping which could cause an accident. paid too much money for this nissan to be having these kind of problems and do not want to cause an accident. nissan is not cooperating with all the consumers that own these vehicles. i am afraid it is going to completely stall in the middle of the road.

The 2005/06 nissan pathfinder has an issue with the radiator (coolant) leaking into the transmission. the defect causes the car to smoke once the transmission has completely gone out. this also at some points causes the car to switch gears violently on when going above 60 mph. *tr

Nissan pathfinder, 2006 dealer states radiator coolant leaking into & mixing with transmission oil. car would have a severe vibration above 40mph approx. when changing final gear. there is no heat from heater. car temp would rise at speeds over 40mph. dealer asked for $8000 for replacement of radiator and transmission. car under power train warranty but they still won't cover defect radiator. common problem found online with 2005 & 2006 models, they can catch on fire and the service engine light is not turning on. nissan hq declined any help. *tr

We have been having problems with our vehicle shaking at 40 mph and again at 60 mph. we have had it into the shop to be looked at but after replacing u-joints, some other items and putting new tires on our vehicle it didn't get better. my wife was driving our pathfinder home one night with our daughters in the vehicle and noticed that the vehicle was sputtering. she thought that possibly she was running out of gas although it was showing a 1/4 tank but we had been noticing that the gas gauge would fluctuate when we would fill the vehicle up (something that we noticed other nissan owners have mentioned as well). she stopped at the gas station and noticed that the vehicle was overheating. we had it towed to a nissan dealership where they told us that the radiator leaked into the transmission and we were going to need a new radiator and new transmission. we are over our miles and our warranty has run out. we have contacted nissan but were told that they are not obligated to fix anything or pay for anything since we drove our vehicle outside of our warranty and have put too many miles on our vehicle. we have been reading that this is a problem with the 2005 and we are thinking that this is going to be the same case for the 2006 and 2007 once the miles get to about 60,000. we have heard that nissan has put out a bulletin on this problem and are aware of it but as the regional manager told us, they are not obligated to fix or pay for anything outside of the warranty. they know this is an issue and still they are not doing anything to make good on a product that has a manufacturer's defect. i'm sure that they are not interested in hearing this and have probably heard it before, but we will not buy another nissan product and will make sure that we let as many people as we can know that nissan does not stand behind their product. *tr
