Observed milky puddle under radiator and thick milkly pink fluid in radiator and overflow reservoir. observed during the last 3000miles intermittent vibrations similar to hitting the wake-up strips on the side of a highway shoulder or washer-board road texture. vibrations happened at various times between 1250 to 2250 rpm and 50 to 60mph. tire balance was ruled out as a cause of vibration by mechanic. dealer diagnosis verified cross contamination of the engine coolant and transmisson fluid caused by an internal transmission cooler in the radiator split apart. a mechanic described the damage that would be caused to the transmission from the cross contamination would include severe corrosion. transmission failure is imminent because of the severe leakage. transmission failure is also sudden, because the vehicle was operable even with the presence of a leak. repair of this condition requires replacement of the radiator and transmission and flushing the coolant system. i would not want to replace a faulty radiator with the same, but our mechanic verified that the nissan replacement radiator has been be changed from the original part number. therefore, nissan has revised their radiator but not issued a recall. nissan dealer quotes for repair was $9983.

2006 nissan pathfinder started having a violent vibration at around 50mph. researched online and found numerous articles regarding this issue. all information i found indicated that the radiator fluid was leaking into the transmission through the coolent line. when i checked my radiator level, the coolent was low, which was one of the indicators that his was my problem. i took my vehicle to the dealership that i bought it from, less than a year ago with 75,000 miles, they tell me that the warrenty only covers vehicles with less that 80,000 miles. when i purchased the vehicle, there was no mention of the issue, only that the pathfinder was a solid, certified pre-owned vihicle. now i will have to pay $3,000 co-pay. everything i have read, indicates that these issues rarely ever start before 80,000 miles. the fact that the industry is letting them get away with this is disgusting to me. i have a wife and two children riding around in a faulty vehicle with a well known issue i can't aford to fix.

I am a mother of two elementary school children. i drive them to and from school each day. during these trips and other daily errands, my 2006 nissan pathfinder violently shakes at random throughout the drive. this causes me to be fearful of not being able to control the vehicle, especially when i am transporting my children. the steering wheel visibly shakes and the vehicle feels as of we are riding over rough terrain. apparently this is happening with a good majority of nissan vehicles now, and that is very frightening for them to be on the road . i feel a recall is needed to save a life.

Driving car starts hard shifting up and down.i dont think i would have made it home if i wasnt so close. after a little online research i check radiator and see that transmission fluid is intermixing with radiator fluid. the worse part is nissan new this was a problem and hasnt done a recall. i bought this car from a nissan dealers preowned with 86,000 in 2009. to me they new it was a problem and still sold me a car in which i have little recourse, but to fix myself.

I noticed my radiator reservoir was getting low, so i filled again, a week passed and the same thing, i told my brother in law who have some mechanical knowledge and we both check the reservoir unit, and then the radiator cap, and for my sad surprise, there were a oily brown residue, which means that my truck had mixed transmission fluid and anti-coolant, wow what a downside !!! now the cost to repair it is around $3000+ dollars and of course i changed the radiator already, due to the fact of that part being defective, and of course after that happened i received a letter from nissan extending the warranty of the radiator, only if i had less than 80k miles on my truck, so guess what? i am not covered but that warranty !!!! because i have more than 130k anyways, 2 weeks ago i received a class action settlement against nissan !!!!! yeah !!!

I am being told that my transmission is going out due to a faulty transmission nissan installed in the 2006 pathfinders. they are telling me this is very common in the pathfinders and after much research i am seeing that i am not alone.

In june 2012 we took our car to be seen for stalling and shaking. nissan stated we can't replicate the problem instead they replaced the radiator. nissan stated that the radiator was leaking, but never told us there was a recall. now dec we almost had an accident due to the shaking of the car. took it back to nissan and once again the said they couldn't find the problem with the car. i mentioned that i had read about transmission possibly being affected by radiator leaks on other pathfinders. nissan said i can't always believe what i read on the internet. nissan does not want to look at the transmission for us. i believe that they are just waiting for my car's warranty to be up. i feel helpless and scared that one day i will be in an accident and nissan never helped my family out.

Radiator/transmission cooler failed leaking radiator fluid into transmission ruining transmission. radiator and transmission need to be replaced according to nissan dealership. proactive replacement (recall) of known defect in radiator would have been inexpensive and prevented very costly transmission damage.

On 12/7/12, while waiting at a stop light, the vehicle turned off. i was able to turn the car back on but within half a mile while waiting at a stop sign, the engine turned off again. on 12/9/12 at 10:45 p.m. while driving on the highway, going 65mph, the accelerator dropped less than 40mph, rpm needle began to go from 1 to 3 rapidly and the check engine light began to flicker. i was unable to accelerate for the first 10 seconds and when i was able to accelerate, it would not go above 30mph. after half a mile, i was able to pick up speed, after a mile of normality the vehicle began to have the same issue. after another mile, i was able pick up speed but it felt as if there were pressure in the accelerator. i was lucky enough to make it home that night. took my pathfinder into cerritos nissan on 12/11/12 and it turned out it was the radiator and transmission causing the issue. it was supposedly fixed within 24hrs. on 12/17/12, while driving out of my driveway, the car jerked, accelerator stalled, rpm needle would go from gear 1-2 rapidly, and check engine light flickered. it lasted for about 10 seconds... i continued to drive the vehicle and within 3 miles (once i was on the highway on a stop and go traffic) the exact same incident occur. on 12/18/12, i returned the vehicle back to nissan cerritos service dealer for another look, they are claiming everything is fine with the vehicle. i am now concerned because this is now a safety issue. i am scared to drive my vehicle, i've been lucky that i have not suffered an accident but if this issue continues, my luck could run out and i may not be so lucky next time. the life of my son and my life are at stake here. this issue should be a recall since it sounds, after much research, that this is not the first nor 100th time it has happened.

Transmission failure due to tranmission fluid and engine coolant mixing in the radiator. this is a known problem according to nissan. i was required to pay a $2500 copay to have the repair made. the failure of the transmission could have resulted in an accident since we were on a highway. the failure is catastophic. my reason for complaint is that nissan is aware of the problem but refuses to issue a recall. instead they offer an extended warranty with copays. i would not have had to pay the $2500 if this was a recall or the failure occurred before 80000 miles. i urge you to force nissan to issue the recall and reimburse the copay.

Took my 2006 pathfinder to a shop for poor heat, and a slight transmission shutter after checking the fluid noticed the anti-freeze was contaminated with transmission fluid and the transmission fluid was milky from the anti-freeze. only having 88,000 miles on car i started looking for reasons and found that there was a crack in the radiator causing it to swap fluids. after speaking with the shop owner he believes it was caught early so there is an off chance that a good flush and transmission service will correct the shutter, how ever i will need to replace the radiator, thermostat, all fluids and the hose assembly that connects the rear heat ( became brittle and cracked from transmission fluid) for a cost off $2000 parts,

Vehicle was running normal till we park to have lunch.start vehicle fine place shifter in gear (drive) was not taking any gear.we have vehicle taking to nissan dealer.they determin cause due to a faulty radiator leaking colant to transmission nissan was not going to do any warranty repairs on the vehicle because vehicle was out warranty.

I had transmission problems, the transmission started vibrating and then would not move, i took to local transmission shop, they advised there was a problem in the radiator causing damage to transmission, i took to nissan dealer they advised that nissan had extended the warranty to 80,000 miles due to the radiator, however nissan had not sent any information regarding a problem are extending the warranty. if i had known there was a problem with radiator, i would have had it checked prior to the 80,000 miles. then nissan sends letter that they are extending warranty to 100,000 miles with a 3,000 dollar deductable. if i had received a letter earlier from nissan about the problem, i would have taken the nissan to a dealer prior to the 80,000 miles. at times the transmission would stall out when making a turn, which could have caused a serious accident; fortunately there were no on coming traffic. the car also has a fuel gauge which gives a false reading at all times to the actual amount of fuel in the tank due to a faulty sending unit. so now i am stuck with a bill for 3,000 dollars. i feel nissan was negligent in not advising their customers of the problem earlier. the dealer then called me and told me that the timing chain was worn and needed to be replaced at a cost of 2,000 dollars. my nissan has less than 100.000 miles and the radiator, transmission and timing chain are faulty, and nissan should cover these charges

I purchased a 2006 nissan pathfinder in 2009. it had 64000 miles and i paid $18500. of course the dealer did not inform me of the issue. since i have purchased this car (one previous owner) i have had to replace two cat converters, a radiator, a pressure gauge, and now a transmission because the radiator fluids and transmission fluids are mixing. it causes the car to jerk uncontrollably out of nowhere while in normal operation. when i brought the car in for service, the service adviser had me change the radiator and the transmission maintenance. this costs me $1650. two cat converters, $3200. now they said i need a new transmission for $5000+. there have been over 5000 complaints regarding this safety issue, and the nhtsa has not issued a recall. this is unbelievable. will someone have to be killed first in a pathfinder for something to be done? the car is very dangerous to drive. nissan is well aware of this problem and could care less. i have been spoken to nissan north america, they have decided i was one not worthy of help due to mileage. the problem i have is nissan knows and understands this will happen to their cars eventually. it is not only pathfinders, but also frontiers, maximas, altimas, etc. read all of the blogs. it is a joke. nissan needs be held accountable for the design flaw. they are having their customers pay for nissan's problem. usa nissan customers need your help. nissan needs to be punished for their inaction. nissan has also settled a class action lawsuit as well regarding this issue. please do something before somebody gets killed!

Traveling on the highway, the car slowed up. light came on that stated service engine soon. went to nissan dealer and they diagnosed it as transmission/radiator system gone and needs total replacement.

My nissan has 108,000 miles, always had all requiered maintenance transmission makes a clank at 15 to 20 mph and vibrates severely when i lower the speed or try to regain the speed from 40 or 60 mph. it also drags, losses power and vibrates when going up hill on lower speed say 20 mph. internet information, reveils that the cause is radiator water leak to the transmition. nissan is aware of this. the pathfinder also has motor oil, leaks, in the oil filter area internet search revieled malfuntiong, faulty part both condition is known by nissan corp office internet search has reveals extensive complaints just like mines and nissan does nothing about it for both pleasae request a recall motor oil, leaks, in the oil filter area

Vehicle started shuddering and lost propulsion on the highway. after this incident it began slamming into gears and would not go in reverse. looked online and saw that many people are having the same issue. i brought the car to the dealer to be told that the radiator failed causing coolant and transmission fluid to mix, causing incorrect internal transmission pressure, and internal failure. nissan refuses to take accountable action and repair the failures. this is obviously a defect and in no way should the consumer be responsible. thankfully nobody was behind me on the highway when this happened as i had my three kids in the car.

I use this vehicle to commute to and from work. i currently serve in the u.s. military and must drive over causeways that are located over water to get to work. the vibrations from the failing transmission cause a major concern when going over these causeways. if the transmission were to fail going 50 mph it could cause a major accident possibly killing my family, me and possibly many more. today i was taking the family out for dinner. on our way i drove over the causeway driving 55 and came to an exit. as i was exiting, the vehicle started jerking vigorously. thankfully there was enough room to control the vehicle to bring it to a stop. now the vehicle will not drive past 1st gear, so obviously i had to get it towed. nissan must address the problem immediately before someone gets killed, but we all know thats exactly what they are waiting for.

I took my 2006 nissan pathfinder to a transmission shop because when i accelerated or slowed down it was giving a bucking feeling and my regular mechanic reffered me to them. i was told that it was the faulty radiator and the transmission and radiator would need to be replaced for anywhere from $4800-$5500. wow what a shock! this is ridiculous!!!

 The transmission is shot!

The automatic transmission shudders or vibrates extensively at approx 42 mph, 55 mph, and 62 mph. it cannot downshift properly - i have to drive above or below the referenced speeds to avoid the shaking. in later incidents, the vehicle jolted but not out of control.

Drove to wawa for gas and as car was idiling it over heated and check engine light came on. got my car home and started poking around online just to find thousands of other people are experiencing the same issue. the radiator cracked and mixed with transmission fluid. don't know if transmission is destroyed yet but time will tell. horrible that there is no recall for this. and what a hazard i had my 3 children in car and had to tell them no baseball for them. and top it off there was no signs of any issues and car only has 59799 miles on it.

My transmission started making noises and problem shifting at 60 mph and the whole vehicle start shaking. i had to brake and reduced speed to avoid the shaking.
07/14/201182367
At first incident, the transmission would start slipping causing a vibration while the overdrive was on, the vibration would go away when out of overdrive. then the car would stall when you would try to take off at a stop, the car would not move until you would turn the car off and crank it again. as you would pull out into traffic the car would not go. then even with the car out of overdrive while at speeds at 55 mph or higher the transmission would not work, you would have to let off on the accelerator and wait on the rpm's to drop and then it would go into gear again.i took the car to a local mechanic and he advised the trouble was in a solenoid in the transmission. i took the car to a transmission shop, they checked the fluid and said there was water in the transmission fluid, caused by a coolant leak from inside of radiator getting into the transmission lines causing the transmission to go bad due to coolant into the transmission.

Vehicle problem started with ecm/ipdm power train which stool on me. replace for a cost of $17-1800. i paid about $1500-$1800 to get the ecm fixed and ipdm replaced. i was informed that my vehicle needed 2front converters for a cost of $2500. i contacted nissan manufacturers and expresses my concerned. nissan manufacturers did not want to pay attention to my concerns, but after about 3-5months of non stop complaining, nissan manufacturers issued a recalled on the ecm and refunded my money, but refuses to fix my converters. in march 2011, i got a recalled noticed from nissan manufacturers about a leak of coolant into transmission, so i took my vehicle to the dealership and the dealership refused to do the required inspection and claimed that my vehicle had more miles than the manufacturers required mile; and yes, my vehicle at that time was not 5years. two weeks later my transmission went into heavy smoke with a strong rotten egg odor while i was driving. i was told that valve body inside my vehicle transmission is burned and to replace it for a cost of about $3000+, and sensor need to be replace as well and the 2 converters. nissan gave me a bill of over $5000.

Back in november 2011 (a week before thanksgiving) my car started to act up while shifting (shifting hard or not shifting). i took it to a nissan dealer (bertera nissan of auburn, ma) on my way to work. the mechanics there told me there was nothing wrong with my car. they never even took it for a test drive. the mileage at the time was around the 80k. in february to my local mechanic (ed's automotive, ellington ct) for routine maintenance (oil change). i asked him to check if i needed a transmission service since i was at 100k in miles. he checked the fluid and told me that the coolant was mixed with my transmission fluid and told me to take it to a dealer to see if it was covered. he informed me at that time of the service bulletin that nissan has out. so i took it back to the same dealer that told me 4 months earlier that nothing was wrong. they gave me the info to file the claim and confirmed that i need a new transmission and radiator. i filed and waiting for a response. it took about a week. when i heard back from the customer line, they told me that they would not assist me with the issue. i called back several times to try to reach a different person to discuss this. i was never put through to anyone else. the woman on the phone told me that if i didn't like the outcome to contact the bbb and file a claim. that's great and all, but that still does not fix my car. i've only had the car for a year, i'm paying $20k for it. i was finally contacted by the nissan corporate office after sending out several emails. again, nissan denied helping me. the reason i was given is because the mileage wasn't taken down by the dealership at the first visit. really? how am i suppose to know your procedures. that does not fall on me as a customer. that falls on the dealership!

My vehicle started (mar 2010) to vibrate at between 45 and 65 mph, it felt like i was going over a rumble strip. brought it to dealer they diagnosed a bad universal joint. ten months (jan 2011) later it happened again, additionaly car was shifting poorly and felt like it couln't find the correct gear between 45 and 65 mph, dealer said i need a new transmission. when they dropped the driveshaft they said it was just a universal joint between the transmission and the driveshaft. the problem reoccured in mar 2012, brought vehicle to local mechanic (vehicle was no longer under warranty) who consuleted a transmission shop. was told that radiator fluid was leaking into transmission through a faulty hose/line in the radiator and vehicle now need a transmission overhaul and new radiator. i am concerned that transmission could fail catastrophicaly on highway leading to an accident and injury.

It started feeling like i was driving over the bumps on the side of the road. i took my 2006 nissan pathfinder to the dealer and i had the radiator leaking into the transmission problem. i was told this is a common issue with nissans and they are not recalling the problem. they extended the warranty to 80,000 miles; unfortunately, i have 95,000 miles on my truck. it would have cost me approximately $1,000 to fix the radiator, more than 5000 to fix the transmission.

The radiator colling pump cracked causing the cooling fluid to leak into the transmission and mix with the transmisssion fluid in return a new radiator drive unit and transmission needed to be replaced as well as the torque converter

Rough shifting prompted a check of the transmission fluid at the dealer. was told the radiator cracked and leaked coolant into the transmission and both components needed to be replaced immediately. they offered refurbished parts for the out of warranty repair for $5480. an independent repair shop offered new parts for $5200.

My brand new timing chain failed, destroying my engine and costing me over $8000 in repairs in addition to the cost of the timing chain ($1100).

At 86,000 miles my transmission started to studder. i took it to nissan dealership in fairfax va and they just said i needed a new transmission for $7500. they mentioned nothing about a potential radiator problem causing this, they basically played dumb about it. if i were to have them fix it with a new transmission, i would have had the same problem all over. the service manager said i might want to punt on this one and let someone else deal with the problem. i decided to take it to aamco and they told me that there is a problem with this model where the radiator fails and fluid is cross-contaminated with the transmission. i paid $5000 to have this fixed. nissan should fess up to this problem. i've been doing my research and it turns out that this problem has happened with numerous pathfinder owners. something needs to be done about this well known, documented issue. this type of issue could lead to a major accident if the transmission were to fail on the highway or a major personal safety issue if failure were to happen on back roads.

Nissan used bad radiators in 2005-2006 that break, leak into transmissions, and require users to purchase both a new radiator and transmission. this happened to mine, and then i found countless complaints online. nissan knew that the radiators were faulty, but didn't perform a recall, which put a lot of cars on the road with transmission failures that are dangerous.

While driving down the street at approximately 45mph the vehicle suddenly loss forward moving power but the engine would rev to a high rpm, causing a dangerous situation with the other traffic on the road while we attempted to coast to the side of the road. upon taking the car to the dealer, i was informed that the radiator had experienced an internal failure causing antifreeze to enter and contaminate the transmission causing that to become damaged beyond repair. although the power train (which i imagine includes the transmission) was still under manufactures warranty up to 60,000 miles, i was told it would not qualify for a warranty repair since it was determined that the radiator was the cause of the transmission failure and the radiator was only covered under a 3 year or 36,000 mile warranty. the repair costs for both were quoted to me from the dealer to be ~$6,000.00 for a new radiator and transmission. it is also my understanding nissan has recently started to extend the warranty on certain pathfinders faulty radiators (based off of vin number) and would also reimburse anyone who already had to pay for this repair out of pocket. i have not received a letter from nissan to-date stating my vehicle has qualified for this plan. even though it is obvious to me (and the nissan dealer) that my radiator was faulty therefore causing the damage beyond repair to my transmission as well. i feel i should be reimbursed for this very expensive repair since it was caused out of no fault of my own. due to the extremely high dealer quote, i opted to have the vehicle repaired at an independent certified repair shop for ~$4,000.00 for which they installed a newly warranted transmission and radiator package. i was told they only sell the replacement transmissions with the radiators included, confirming to me that this type of failure is known to the industry as a combined failure.

About a month ago my wife went to fill up our 2006 pathfinder and when she finished the gas gauge showed only half fill. she went to another gas station tried to fill it up but it only took another dollar. the next day i called up nissan who said it was the sending unit in the gas tank and would be apx $600 to fix. i saw other logs of xterras having this problem and there was a recall. our car was just past the 3 year warranty. if this were the only problem with this car i'd pay to get it fixed. but i've had another but problems with this vehicle. i've gone through 3 sets of rotors and i'm on my 3rd set of tires. the drivers side door lock broke and to be brought in twice, and the bose system has a cd stuck which i can't get out. this happened only after we owned it a few months. *tr
