(2007 pathfinder) the fuel sending unit failed and the fuel gauge led me to believe i had gas when in fact i was empty. i ran out of gas in a busy intersection and i was almost hit by a large dump truck. my 5 year old and my 4 month old were in the 2007 pathfinder. would if the dump truck driver was not paying attention, me and my children would definitely be dead.

The check engine light stays on the car. also, the fuel delivery system has become a significant hazard in the car. the pathfinder's gasoline gauge indicates that it is half full, but suddenly the yellow light comes on to indicate the car is empty. this is a significant hazard while on the highway and there are times where a gas station may not be easily accessible.

My 2007 pathfinder has service engine soon light on from a failure with the fuel sending unit. you can see from this thread: http://x.nissanhelp.com/forums/xterra/4151-fuel-gauge-problem-sevice-engine-soon-light.html it is a major problem in many vehicles. there should be a recall for this.

 Fuel gauge level sending unit
12/17/201053400
Fuel sending unit bad trouble code 0463. filled gas tank at 1/4 to full. started car gauge read alittle above 1/4 tank of gas. gauge went up slowly to about 1/2 then suddly dropped to 0(empty).
06/30/201030000
Fuel level sending unit of nissan pathfinder stops working shortly after 25k miles and the gauge starts showing that the tank is suddendly empty leading to run out of fuel and stuck on the road which is very dangerous, especially for moms like me with children in the vehicle.

My 2007 nissan pathfinder's gas gage started malfunctioning in february 2010. i actually was told i had 1/2 tank but realized it was empty when i ran out of gas with my two kids on the highway. i called nissan usa and they told me it had been recalled for certain years and months the car was made but my month wasnt covered. i cannot fork over 500 dollars to fix the gage but i never know how much gas i have so obvioulsy that is not safe.

My 2007 nissan pathfinder le was purchased brand new from the local nissan dealership here in little rock, ar. the vehicle currently has 49,000 miles on it. recently, i've noticed that my fuel gauge is not reading accurately. one time, the gauge indicated that i had some fuel remaining in the tank, yet i ran out of gas and had to call for assistance. more noticeably, i will fill my tank up completely to where it won't accept gasoline. then, i'll start my engine and the gauge will read 1/4 of tank full instead of full. more recently, the service engine soon light has lit up on my dashboard and stays on constantly. i've been online reading about the prevalence of this exact same situation under practically the exact same conditions. i called the dealer, who said it was not under warranty (because of mileage) or recall. repairing the matter will in the neighborhood of $500-600. i also called nissan customer service directly, who confirmed that it was not under recall (though it clearly should be). they suggested that i take it to the dealer for diagnosis (at my expense) and to call them back because they might then look at the matter to determine if any action is necessary on their part. either way - i front the $$$ for the repair. all i can say is that it's amazing that so many people are experiencing this same problem and that recalls have been done for other nissan vehicles with similar problems, yet nothing has been done in this case. why is my government not at work for me on this one? is there not potentially a safety issue involved with me and my children driving home in the evening/at dark with the assumption of gas in our pathfinder tank to get us there and being stranded otherwise???? this is my very first and certainly my last nissan - period.
08/30/201082000
The fuel gage stopped working a while ago, and the service engine light came on and stayed on. the gage would show 1/4 tank fuel after filling the tank up, then work normal, then drop to empty, even though the tank was at least 1/2 full. i would keep track of how many miles i drove and fill up the tank every 300 miles. that's how i knew it was time to get gas again... today i found out that problem is not only a nuicance for me, but it is also connected to our state emission inspection. when i had the inspection done today, id did not pass the on-board diagnositc (obdii) test, which is one of the state requirements. resulting failure code for the obdii test was p0463-fuel level sensor a circuit high. my understanding is this very same/similar defect affected many of 2006 and 2008 pathfinders, and resulted in a recall of those vehicles. based on the many complains on this site, it is evident it affects many 2007 pathfinders as well. since it does affect emmission requirements, please further investigate so the problem can be fixed.

2007 nissan pathfinder's gas guage does not accurately register gas tank level. it shows empty when not empty and vice versa. the reading will go from an 1/2 full to empty in a blink of an eye.. it is extremely difficult to know how much gas is in the car. the service engine light stays on constantly. the dealer's service dept is charging $500 to fix the gas guage. i believe it is a manufacturing defect and should be covered by nissan.

2007 nissan pathfinder, less than 45,000 - service engine soon light came on. it appears to be a faulty fuel sensor, which many owners of 2007 pathfinder have complained about. nissan has not issued recall for faulty sensor on car that is 3 yeras old. estimated cost to fix nissan's defective part is $500 - $600.

When you fuel up the fuel gauge drops to empty. it will later go to full put the engine service light comes on. to get the light to go off you have to have someone clear the code or disconnect the battery cable. i found a large number of people who have had the same problems with their nissian vehicles.

Add gas to the tank the guage will show empty for a while and then will gradually over one to two days get to the right amount in the tank. tank does not reset show empty when fuel. eventually reset to correct status the next does. distance till empty does not reset. i found numerous complaints about this on the internet and the dealer acts like i am the first one to bring this issue to them. this creates a huge safety risk of not knowing what the correct volume is. many nissan owners are reporting this issue and nothing is being addressed.

I filled my 2007 nissan pathfinder up with gas. when i started driving home, i noticed to service engine soon light was on. it has remained on for a week continuously. the fuel gauge started going crazy during this time. one minute it shows a full tank and the next it shows empty and the next a half a tank to three quarters a tank. today, i filled up the truck and it shows a half tank. also, during this time the dte started out fluctuating and now just shows --- all the time. *tr

The last 3 times that i've filled my gas tank, the gauge says empty and the light indicating low fuel comes on. the dte (distance until empty) indicator shows -------indicating zero miles left until i run out of gas. the check engine light also comes on. about 2 days later my fuel gauge will start to register correctly and then on the 3rd day, my check engine light will go off. i called sutherlin nissan in ft myers which is where i bought my 2007 nissan pathfinder brand new and i spoke with nicole in the service department who told me that my suv was not part of the recall and in order for them to determine what the problem is, i would have to come in for a diagnostic check and i would be responsible for the check and the repairs. *tr

Faulty fuel gauge sensor, 2007 nissan pathfinder . it was thanksgiving day, i was returning home when my son i stopped to fill up. my son was driving and shortly after take off he indicated the gauge wasn't working, the distance to empty numbers weren't up and the service engine soon light was on. we got off at the next exit and i thought he must have not been paying attention and no gas was pumped. i tried to fill up only to get about .50 cents in the tank. i drove home and notice the distance numbers read backward until the needle was on full and it read correctly. i drove the vehicle a couple of days then the light went off. after driving for another few days the light came back on. i took it to autozone for them to test it. they read me the things it could be. i then called nissan in gonzales and they told me that sound about right and it would cost me around $500 plus tax. i didn't have the $$ at the time therefore i had to continued to drive the vehicle with the engine light still on, and try and monitor my mileage and estimate how long i had before empty. times i would fill up and needle would drop to empty and gas light would be on and over a course of 2 or 3 days, it eventually went off, at times it would still show full, and it would give me the distance to empty until about half way then i just had the dots. this was always somewhere around 180-200 miles remaining. i've been driving around a little over 3 months with the faulty sensor. can i tell you my nerves were bad, because i didn't want to be on the road at night, or anytime and run out of gas. i finally took my car in for a diagnostic and they told me this is for sure what i needed. i just got my car repaired on monday, march 1, 2010. you better believe i have my receipt. *tr

About 6 months ago i was driving down a major interstate and suddenly my truck cut off. luckily i was already in the far right lane which allowed me to merge onto the shoulder before stopping completely. when the truck cut off, the power steering also went out making it very difficult to steer the truck out of the road. being that this portion of the intersection was under construction, my truck was not able to clear the adjacent lane with on coming traffic. traffic backed up until someone jumped out of their car to help push the truck further onto the shoulder. i later found out that the truck ran out of gas and the fuel level indicator stop working on my car. i had no way of knowing when my car was low on fuel other than to keep a running tab on how many miles i have driven since the last fill up of fuel. the same exact thing happen to my wife while driving down a major road.(she has the 2006 pathfinder and mine is the 2007 pathfinder) she suddenly lost her power steering and could not pull over into a near by gas station almost causing a few cars to crash into her truck. after taking my truck to the dealer to determine the problem, their reply was that the problem could not be repaired under the warranty and to repair the problem would cost me a substantial amount of money. they were well aware of the problem due to many of their trucks having the exact same problem. our local mechanic called the dealer also to inquire about the issue and was told that it is very common for all of the nissan pathfinders to have this issue at approximately 30k miles. he stated that they have been repairing them very often. both me and my wife fear that we could get into a serious accident or cause a serious accident due to this manufacturer flaw. we both feel that a manufacturer recall is in order and that nissan corp is putting it's buyers in danger by refusing to have this repaired by the dealer free of charge to the buyer. we do not plan to ever purchase another nissan. *tr

My 2007 nissan pathfinder has an erratic, inaccurate and basically inoperative fuel gauge. the gauge drops to e as soon as a the tank goes to 3/4 to 1/2. nissan is aware of the problem (ntb07-06b) but refuses to fix at their expense. their dealerships are charging $500 + in parts and labor to fix this potentially dangerous situation. we ran out of fuel on the expressway, and had to wait for almost an hour on the left side of i-75 until georgia hero brought us some fuel. please help. *tr

Nissan pathfinder has a problem with the fuel gauge unit giving inaccurate readings due to the fuel sending unit needing to be replaced. *nj the check engine light also illuminated. the consumer felt the possibility of running out of gas on a major highway was a safety issue. *jb

I own a 2007 nissan pathfinder se which currently has just over 37,000 miles on it. after filling the gas tank the fuel gauge remains on empty and the service engine soon light remains on for three to four days before the problem resets itself. after another fill up the same symptoms re-occur. this has been happening for about a month now and the dealer tells me that it is not covered under the warranty. potential for danger exists in that the car may be out of fuel while i am driving which may cause stalling and lead to an accident. thanks for your service. *tr

Filled gas tank completely. fuel gauge did not indicate a full tank. the dte display had dashes across it when it should have shown 323 miles to the tank drove for approximately one mile. fuel gauge indicator went haywire and service engine soon light came on. fuel gauge now show that the gas tank is empty and will not move. service engine light is still on. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 nissan pathfinder. while on vacation in july of 2008, the contact noticed and smelled fuel leaking from the vehicle just one week after having the fuel sensor replaced. the odor was very strong. the manufacturer repaired the vehicle under warranty. when the contact retrieved the vehicle, she was informed that the fuel line was repaired, but she began smelling gasoline a few weeks later. there was no leakage at that time. on january 23, 2009, the vehicle was taken to the dealer for the odor and they stated that no prior repairs appeared to have been made to the vehicle. the current and failure mileages were 60,000.

Tl- the contact owns a 2007 nissan pathfinder. the contact stated that when the gas tank is full, the gauge goes to empty. the gauge may work sometimes when the vehicle gets to a quarter tank, but it still does not read correctly. the dealer inspected the vehicle and said it was the dte sensor that was failing. the contact was not sure what dte stands for, but it deals with the mileage and fuel tank reading. the failure mileage was 50000 and the current mileage was 60000.rl

I live in oklahoma and drive dirt roads daily. i purchased a 2007 nissa pathfinder in 2007 and have two canisters replaced. i was not told when i purchased the car that it should not be driven on dirt roads because the canister clogs. i was told by the dealer this is a design defect. my concern: i have 82,000 miles on the car, my extened warranty runs out at 100,000 miles. i will drive dirt roads for the rest of my life, i want some sort of guarantee that the next time this canister fails (which cuases the service engine light to come on), that the cost of repair will be on me. i don't feel this is fair. it seems to be an ongoing problem. is there actually a design flaw and can i have some sort of guarantee that nissan will stand behind this. i don't think it would be fair to sell the car and pass this problem onto them. it is very costly to repair.

Filled up the gas tank, then it stays on empty & service engine light comes on. after a few choice words to the truck, i now have figured out it must be a defect in materials & urge you to look into this issue.

I own a 2007 nissan pathfinder with a faulty fuel gauge. there is a recall, but my vehical is not covered due to the limited production range of the recall. i feel nissan should honor the recall on all vehicals with this problem as it's clear they have a problem with their fuel gauge. my only option is to spend over $400 out of pocket and maybe they will have a secondary recall that will refund my money. this is not acceptable and this is a safety issue as running out of gas puts not only the persons in the vehical at risk but other drivers as well depending on where the vehical runs out of gas.

Code 0463 fuel level sensor found on 2007 nissan pathfinder. have researched the issue and found numerous complaints of nissan vehicle owners having the exact same issue from mileage ranges 40,000 - 70,000. when you fill up the fuel tank, the gas guage goes to empty and doesn't work, thus it's impossible to determine the amount of gas at all times in your vehicle.

The service engine light appeared at about 50k miles. we determined it was a faulty fuel sensor. nissan insisted on us paying for a diagnosis at their service center when we already knew what was wrong, then they charged me to have it installed. this was followed by a recall on 2007 pathfinders being recalled for fuel sensor but mine is excluded.

I own a 2007 nissan pathfinder se with 47000 miles. the fuel level sensor failed and the service engine light came on. i went to the dealership and paid $100.00 to read the engine code and confirm the sending unit was at fault. they told me that this was a common problem and it cost $400.00 dollars to fix. in this economy i am unable to afford this so i will have to postpone this fix. my concern is that if i or a family member forgets to check the mileage since the last fillup, this vehicle can shut down at hi speed and lose steering and brakes. i just found out that nissan issued a recall to fix this problem but limited it to a few vehicles manufactured during a few months from 2005-2007. my vehicle missed this small window by 2 months. *tr

I have a 2007 nissan pathfinder that is only at 33,700 miles. on 2/6 i have my car serviced. on 2/19 my check engine soon light illuminated. i took it to the dealer this morning 2/20 and they told me it was the fuel sensor. they also said it wasn't under warranty (not true). after getting a quote of $600, i did research and upon reading forums have come to the realization nissan will not recall/fix this problem in their vehicles. it is a safety hazard due to the fuel gauge not working properly and the possibility of running out of gas, whether it be on the highway or city streets. *tr

Fuel sending unit for a 2007 pathfinder has to be replaced. there has been a number of people complaining about this same problem code p0463. the cost run from 300-600 dollars. why has there not been a recall on this problem. checked different places and a lot of pathfinders or nissan trucks have the same problem and it is not covered. nissan inc. has to recall to many people having same problem. please recall. *tr

I have a 2007 pathfinder with 39k miles. i filled the gas tank up on last night. when i pulled away, the gauge read full. the next morning as i went to drive the vehicle, the gauge read empty and the ses light was on. i contacted the dealer who advised me this was common in the pathfinder and it would cost 400 dollars. i contacted nissan customer affairs that advised me that there is no recall and don't know this to be a common issue. as i have researched online, i see that this seems to be an issue that has been going on for years. why are consumers not aware before making their purchase. *tr
