Defect SummaryNissan is recalling certain model year 2006 and model year 2008 frontier, xterra and pathfinder vehicles. the molded fuel tank shells can deform, causing the fuel sender float arm to contact an embossment molded into the tank shell causing the instrument panel fuel gauge to show that the vehicle has approximately one quarter tank when the fuel tank is empty.
Consequence SummaryThis could cause the vehicle to run out of gas and stall in traffic, increasing the risk of a crash.
Corrective SummaryDealers will replace the fuel level sending unit inside the fuel tank with a new one that has a modified float arm. this service will be performed free of charge. the safety recall is expected to begin on or before march 22, 2010. owners may contact nissan at 1-800-647-7261.

The fuel gauge on our vehicle is not working properly resulting in the need to calculate mileage or risk running out of gas. sometimes the fuel gauge will show that the tank has gas and sometimes it says the tank is empty. there is a recall on fuel gauges/systems for 2008 nissan pathfinders, however nissan has reported that our 2008 nissan pathfinder was not affected by this recall (based on the vin).

Approximately 2 mo ago, the check engine light came on. i took it to my mechanic and was told that there was a failure within the fuel system. he said i would have to replace the entire system which would cost approximately $800 for the part and labor. he looked further into the issue since i told him that i don't actually notice a problem with my fuel gauge. i also did some research on my own and have discovered, like him, that many people are having the same problem as me. some people actually do have errors with their fuel gauge and other don't, however the resulting issue has to do with a malfunction of the fuel system which is causing the problem. nissan is well aware of the issue and there is a recall for certain 2006 and 2008 xterra and pathfinder vehicles. when i contacted the nissan #800, i was told that my vin does not qualify for any recalls---in spite of the company knowing about the issue, issuing a recall for the issue on the same year and model of my vehicle and my experiencing that exact issue. my family has been hit very hard by this economy like everyone else. i do not have $800 to pay to have an item fixed that is not my fault or normal maintenance but the fault of the manufacturing company. i also have 4 children that i transport using this vehicle. i worry that there might actually be or there will be something wrong with the fuel gauge and in that situation, my children and myself could be involved in an accident or stranded in the middle of no where. if the company is aware of an existing malfunction in their vehicle and thousands of people have complained about it, they should cover all necessary costs to fix the problem. period. i hope that they will do what is right with your help.

I received a recall notice from nissan for my 2008 pathfinder due to a faulty fuel guage. on saturday 5/1/2010, i presented the vehicle to maroone nissan in kendall for repairs. after 2 hours, the vehicle was returned to me with a receipt indicating that the problem was fixed. there was a strong gas odor when i started the car. i assumed that this was probably natural since the repairs were related to the fuel system. however, later that day, the check engine light came on. this was the first and only time that this light came on since i acquired the vehicle in april 2008. i decided that on monday morning i will return the vehicle to nissan. however, on sunday around midday, my son took the vehicle to the service station to purchase gas. the next event that happened was alarming. all the gas that my son added to the vehicle leaked out on the ground. apparently, the service technician somehow managed to create a hole somewhere in the fuel system/gas tank. the vehicle had to be towed to nissan for repairs and the repairs are expected to occur on monday 5/3/2010. this situation could have resulted in a serious accident or even death to my son. i do not know whether the individual who performed the repairs was a nissan trained and certified technician or not. however, it is worthy of note that there is a serious deficiency in existence at the nissan location. it is my hope and expectation that an investigation be made into the type and qualifications of the service personnel and the service advisor and their business practices at this location. i am convinced that these individuals were fully aware that they were returning to me a defective vehicle that could have had catastrophic consequences. i should also note that i have been very dissatisfied with previous service jobs at this location, and have always elected to drive approximately 30miles to the pembroke location although the kendall branch in only about 6 miles from home

2008 nissan pathfinder. consumer states problem with engine light and fuel gauge *tgw the consumer stated over the past year, every time the vehicle was driven, the check engine light would illuminate. additionally, the fuel gauge would not show how much fuel was in the vehicle. when gas was put in the vehicle, the tank did not register as full. the consumer stated when the vehicle was taken for the smog test, it did not pass, because the fuel level sensor was faulty. the consumer discovered a recall was issued. however, his vehicle was not included.

Nhtsa campaign id number: 10v075000 covers a defective fuel sending unit/gauge on 2008 nissan pathfinders resulting in the fuel gauge overstating the fuel level by 1/4 tank. i have a 2008 nissan pathfinder (vin# [xxx]) experiencing this exact issue with the fuel gauge, yet nissan is claiming my vehicle is not covered by the recall. if 1 manufacturing plant produced vehicles with this issue it stand to reason that another plant using the exact same parts would also produce vehicles with the same problem as evidenced by the fact that my vehicle from another manufacturing plant does indeed have the problem. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2008 nissan pathfinder. while driving approximately 60-70 mph, the vehicle began to hesitate. the contact safely drove onto the emergency lane. although the gas gauge indicated that the fuel tank was full, it was actually empty. when he added fuel to the vehicle, the gas gauge read empty. he took the vehicle to the dealer where the fuel level sensor was replaced since it caused the failure to occur. a report was filed with the manufacturer. the manufacturer also stated that his vehicle was not included in recall 10v075000 (fuel system, gasoline: storage: auxiliary); therefore, he would not be reimbursed. the failure mileage was 38,258. the current mileage was 44,314.

On a regular morning of commuting my children to their school, suddenly my check engine light illuminated, and my gas gauge immediately went to empty with gas light on, i knew i had gas in the vehicle, so i didnt worry right offlater i did stop at a local mechanics shop and let them perform a diagnostics test on the vehicle and was quoted that the feul sensor needed replacing. i filed a complaint with nissan file#6997888 and was told that my vehicle was not part of the recall, i also called a local nissan dealership and they confirmed what i was told about not being a part of the recall, but i was also told to just bring the vehicle in for diagnostics which cost 100.00 dollars and is alot of money for a single mother of five who was recently laid off, he also stated there was an extension on the recall miles up to 75000, i am just a basket case right now since its time for tag renewal plus im unemployed plus car note plus insurance, and noe repairs...............
