Defect SummaryVehicle description: minivans. the fuel tank vent hose allows air to vent from the fuel tank during refueling. cracks have developed in the vent hose. if (1) the fuel tank is overfilled, not allowing excess fuel in the vent hose to flow back into the tank, (2) the vehicle is driven only a short distance after refueling and, (3) there is subsequently significant heating of the fuel tank, the fuel in the tank can expand into the vent hose and leak fuel.
Consequence SummaryFuel leakage in the presence of an ignition source can result in a fire.
Corrective SummaryDealers will replace the vent hose.

 Tl*the contact owns a 1993 nissan quest. the contact stated that the vehicle burned a lot of fuel. the mechanic inspected the vehicle and stated that there are no leaks. in addition, the contact heard a scraping noise when make a left or right turn. the mechanic was unable to diagnose the failure. the current mileage was 200,050 and failure mileage was 200,00. updated 04/08/08. *lj the seat belts did would not go up or down and there was a problem with the upper and lower ball joints. the consumer also stated the vehicle cuts off. updated

 Ongoing problem with engine stalling while traveling vehicle been in/out of dealer shop on three occasions, and problem cannot be duplicated or corrected. this problem has caused an accident. *ak fuel pump was replaced and dealer stated an exhaust leak causing carbon build up in o2 sensors were causing stalling, however after repairs vehicle still stalls. consumer can smell a gas odor outside vehicle. transmission leaks, dealer found pan had a hole, dealer replaced pan and gasket. *slc

 Tl*the contact owns a 1993 nissan quest. after parking the vehicle, the contact noticed smoke coming from the vent on the outside of the vehicle. after a couple of minutes, the smoke cleared. she turned the key in the ignition and flames appeared under the glove compartment. the fire and police departments arrived at the scene and a fire report was filed. the vehicle was destroyed. the dealer stated that the vin was included in nhtsa campaign id number 00v419001 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly); however, the contact never received a recall notice. the current and failure mileages were 200,000.
