| Defect Summary | Vehicle description: minivans. the fuel tank vent hose allows air to vent from the fuel tank during refueling. cracks have developed in the vent hose. if (1) the fuel tank is overfilled, not allowing excess fuel in the vent hose to flow back into the tank, (2) the vehicle is driven only a short distance after refueling and, (3) there is subsequently significant heating of the fuel tank, the fuel in the tank can expand into the vent hose and leak fuel. | |||||||||||||||

| Last fall we smelled gas. we took the car in and had the overflow hose replaced. later, in the spring, that part was recalled. again, this week, we smelled gas. we took the car and had the recall part put in. the next day we still smelled gas. they called me and said it was another fuel hose which is under the manifold. that is two fuel hose leaks in less than a year. that is scary. what if i didn't have $228 to replace it? this is a huge fire hazard. i am becoming scared to drive this car. please consider this a serious problem. *ak | |||

| The car is very difficult to start after sitting. i have a number of friends with similiar complants with the quest and the sister mercury van. all the solutions have been with the replacement of the fuel pump. most of these people have had this replaced between 40 and 70k miles. the pump is located in the fuel tank. if the gas level drops to low then the pump becomes damaged as it heats up and/or sucks air. i think this is design problem, and am wondering if other people have produced this complaint. *ak | |||
