Accelerator would stick and not allow me to press it down. this would occur as after stopping at a light or intersection. the pedal would not budge, thus causing me to pump it to try to wiggle it to move. when it did catch, it would accelerte abruptly. many times i was in intersection and almost hit front behind or side becuase the van would not move. also, at the 30,000 mile maintenance, i was told that there was less than 10% left on front brakes. this is premature as most cars do not need brake pads changed so quickly.

I purchased the vehicle on june 17, 1999 brand new at torrance nissan. about two weeks later, front brakes started making grinding noise. i was told by both dealer and manufacturer that it was normal since they abandoned abestos from brake pads. i insisted that they changed the pads. they finally agreed and ordered special pads from the factory. noise went away until last month. they replaced the pads once again and it's ok right now. an engineer from the factory finally admitted that there's a defect in the design and most '99 quest have that same problem. driver side mirror vibrates at high speed above 70. again, engineer from factory stated that is a defect and r&d is trying to resolve it. driver side sliding door latch comes open after sliding it back and fourth after four times. it has been back to the dealer many times and since yesterday, it's ok. the main problem is the poor gas mileage. we're putting in 87 octane gas recommended in the manual. we've been getting about 13 miles/gallon in the city and about 18 if we drive both freeway and city. the tank takes about 20 gallons and every 16.5 gallons, we're only getting about 260 miles from the trip reading. nissan consumer affair first told us that new car will give poor reading since all parts haven't been broken into. we should drive it to 5000 miles. the van is at 5750 miles and mileage has not improved at all. i contacted consumer affair and they told me that i should not be using mobil and arco gas and to get that kind of mileage, i should be putting in 95 octane. if this is the case, then how it's not stated in the owner's manual?

My wife was driving our 1999 nissan quest on the interstate the first time the driver front brake locked up. she drove the vehicle to stones river nissan of murfreesboro, tn where they replaced the brake calipers, hoses, rotors, and pads. the brake pads wore out after only 8k miles. took the vehicle to a different shop to have a tire repaired and the pads replaced and the driver's front locked up again on the technician while road testing his repair. this shop insisted on replacing the driver front brake hose despite knowing it was relatively new. this did not work & they replaced the brake caliper (again) and gave up after it locked up yet again. they towed it to sr nissan, who diagnosed a bad master cylinder & replaced it. driver front brake still locked up at the shop, now diagnosing bad abs actuator they say was caused by the seals inside the mc deteriorating. my opinion is that this is a design defect, if particulates from a mc can float and clog an abs actuator to the point that lockup of an individual brake occurs. abs is supposed to prevent lockup, not cause it. the brakes are actually ford design and implementation. i know someone who also had a ford explorer and the passenger front brake locked up on her intermittently like my wife's has. the abs actuator is not available new anymore, my only recourse is to install a junk part which is most likely defective. i think both companies need to be investigated and i think nissan should have to find a new part and pay for installation costs. *tr

This vehicle has numerous problems beginning with the brakes having to be changed multiple times; one occasion while driving on the expressway my passenger sliding door opened up resulting in me having to pull to the side of the road and close the door. when i first purchased the vehicle i would get in and start the car, the windshield wipers would go, the horn would blow and and the doors would lock; there was a terrible banging sound coming from what appeared to be the rear of the vehicle, but after 3 stops in the shop was identified as a bolt being loose in the stearing column, my gas pedal sticks and will all of a sudden release causing the vehicle to lunge forward; the rear bulbs all blew out in the rear of the van and melted the encasing surrounding the bulbs; during a rain storm the windows where in the down position and would not go up; the vehicle had to go into the dealer for them to pull them up; when you attempt to lock the doors the locks make a sound as if they are attempting to lock or unlock but do not, it takes several attempts to unlock the door whether inside or outside of the vehicle...ultimately this vehicle has been a sincere disappointment that needs to be returned to the dealer, however my dealer has gone out of business and the new dealer will not take the vehicle back because it is not their responsibility. i have contacted nissan about the vehicle but nissan's response is to return the vehicle to the dealer for service. nissan is not paying for a loaner car and i can't continue to take time from work to babysit a vehicle more than my children...this will be the last nissan i own. i almost don't want to get rid of it because i don't want another unsuspected individual to purchase this nightmare on wheels*ak
