5/10/08-just had a front end collision in our 2004 nissan quest minivan carrying myself, husband & 3 children-one in a carseat. driver in other vehicle failed to yield to my right of way and impact was made by my van to the side of her car with me going approx. 35mph and she was going about the same. my body came forward even with the seatbelt buckled, my sons chests are bruised from the seatbelts and none...none...of the airbags in that van deployed!!! we bought the van for safety reasons! we purchased it because of the side curtain airbags & not even the front airbags deployed! i want this looked into and i want some answers as to why they didn't deploy. were there even airbags in the van? obviously we haven't seen the damage in daylight hours, but at those speeds and since we hit head on at the very least the airbags in front should have deployed. thank you. *tr

On 1-11-08 i was involved in a single car collision in my 2004 nissan quest. i was avoiding another vehicle and swerved into a cement barrier wal, head on. i then tried to correct the vehicle and struck the right front bumper into another cement wall. neither airbag deployed. my vehicle has been looked at by progressive and a body shop, plus sent for diagnostics to a nissan dealer. everyone agrees the airbags should have deployed. *tr

My 2004 nissan quest passenger airbag sensor light occasionally comes on, signaling that it will not deploy, while my wife is seated in it. she weighs 120 pounds. though the sensor is supposedly working correctly - i would describe this as a design flaw. the sensor usually recognizes her in the seat, but if she sits off to the side, cross-legged or with a foot propped up, it does not work. nissan usa and our dealer say everything is fine and will not adjust anything or allow the airbag to always deploy. i advised them of my wife's weight and size - and they say the seat and airbag are fine. a passenger of this weight should always have an airbag deploy, regardless of foot position, if the car is flipping over or whether one's body is centrally located over the seat. nissan disagrees. passenger wasn't sitting correctly: r.i.p. -nissan. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 nissan quest. while driving 65 mph, the contact drove over a tie down strap and both front air bags deployed without warning. there was no crash or any type of impact involved. the driver sustained minor burns on her left wrist and bicep along with bruises on her hip. the front seat passenger sustained minor burns, cuts, and scratches on her chest. as of july 10, 2007, the dealer has not inspected the vehicle to determine the cause of failure. the current and failure mileages were 37,500.

I have a 2004 nissan quest which had a recall to fix a problem where the front passenger airbag sensor would cause an airbag to still deploy even if a child was sitting in that seat. after the recall was performed, my passenger airbag disabled indicator remains on even with an adult (weight 105lbs) in the passenger seat. we have brought this to the dealership and they report that the manufacturer says this is how it is intended to work and they will do nothing to fix the problem. the safety of my wife is at risk when i drive this vehicle since the airbag will not deploy during an accident when she is riding in the passenger seat.

I was driving on a side road with my daughters in the car when the airbag deployed for no reason. ten min utes later the car alarm sounded for 15 minutes nissan is claiming from the inspection that i was in a moderate to severe collision. this is totally not true. my daughters can attest to this. there are scraps under my car from the long gravel driveway that i use to drive to a horse farm. they are using these scraps as evidence of a collision. they will not repair the airbag or seatbelt. this is a huge safety issue for all 2004 quest owners.*ak

Dt*: the contact stated while traveling various speeds, the airbag warning light remained illuminated after an occupant who weighed 115 pounds sat in the seat. the front passenger air bag would not deploy in the event of a crash when the air bag light was illuminated. on another occasion, an occupant who weighed 150 pounds sat in the passenger seat, and the air bag light remained illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, who performed a diagnostic, and did not provide any error codes. the dealer and contact encountered a nhtsa recall #04v103000, regarding the air bags: frontal: sensor/control module. the dealer determined the vehicle was not involved in the recall due to the vin. also, the fuel gauge on the instrument panel, did not display the correct amount of fuel in the fuel tank. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, who replaced the fuel tank, fuel pump, but the problem recurred. the manufacturer was not contacted.

Car was brought in for a recall of the airbag sensor and the automatic sliding side door. airbag sensor is still not functioning properly after 4 attempts at fixing it. side door not properly functioning but service department can't 'duplicate' it so they say it's fine. car is still in the shop, will be for a total (for this trip) of almost 4 weeks, until a rep from nissan comes to try and fix it. electrical system is a mess, lights, windows, power seats, doors, seem to act on their own. nissan refuses to believe me! driver side passenger (non-power) door sticks, can barely open it myself. flat tire light comes on when temperature outside dips. beware of airbag sensor, try to check it yourself using different weight people. very dangerous! *jb

I brought my 2004 nissan quest (vin 5n1bv28ux4n310433) in for a recall for the passenger side seat airbag in june of 2005 to southern states nissan in raleigh, nc. nissan stated that the sensor in the seat did not meet the federal requirements and they would fix it. when i received the vehicle back, i found that when i sit in the passenger seat the passenger airbag off light would turn on and remain on for my entire trip. normally, this light is supposed to turn off after 5 or so seconds indicated that the airbag is in fact activated to deploy. this light would come on about 90% of the time that i sat in the seat. i am 5 feet 8 inches tall and weigh 120 pounds. i have contacted nissan and the better business bureau to advise them of this issue. nissan has told me that they recalibrated the seat correctly and that i should sit in another quest that has been recalibrated. i have been back to the dealer several times and chip a technician there verified that the light is indeed on when i sit in the seat. months have gone by and both the dealer and nissan are telling me to wait for another recalibrated 2004 quest to come in and that i should drive down and sit in it. they have yet to get in one of these vehicles for me to sit in. i is now the end of october and i continue to have to sit in a passenger seat where the airbag is inoperable when i sit in it and nissan is taking a cavalier attitude toward this. nissan and the dealer point the finger at each other. the better business bureau has told me that they have had lots of complaints about airbag sensors in general and they are not going to get involved. i understand that the sensors are calibrated to detect a child sitting in the seat - but - these sensors should be able to detect a person with a 120 pound frame! please help! *jb

Consumer was never notified of a recall on airbag sensor. *ts the consumer learned of recall 04v103000 about a year later on a website. the vehicle was taken tot he dealer for repairs. the dealer claimed that they shipped the seat to california to be repaired. the consumer found it hard to believe that the seat was shipped and repaired on 3 1/2 days. when the vehicle was returned to the consumer the air bag sensor still malfunctioned. when an adult was in the seat the air bag sensor light illuminated intermittently. the dealer was unable to duplicate the problem and told the consumer that the adult in the seat must sit perfectly still in the middle of the seat. the dealer refused to provide any further repairs. *nm

Nissan quest 2004 service engine soon light on and problems with steering. *bf the service engine soon light had come on 3 times, creaking was felt in the steering wheel and or the front end, sounds were heard coming from the engine compartment, computer tire monitor indicated a flat tire and or low tire pressure during cold weather, the vehicle would run for five minutes then go up to 4 degrees higher (over inflated), when the weather was warm, the setting would then be above 40 psi which was dangerous to drive if not adjusted (incorrect results on the display), srs light had come on after recall campaign #04v103000 was performed, driver's side power window was intermittent, sliding doors made loud bump noise when opened all the way, especially on inclines, heat outlets located on the floor behind the first row seat can't be controlled by the passenger rear controls, the dome lights were not working, the door rattled, the drivers side front window would not move, the window switch has an open circuit, the vehicle was jerking upon acceleration at 30 mph, rear heater was blowing cold air, there was a heavy grinding noise when the vehicle was first started after sitting for more than one hour along with the power steering, transmission fluid leaked a reddish/purple fluid on the garage floor, the interior lights were inoperative and there was an evaporation leak. *sc *jb
