 Timing chain tensioner broke causing timing chain to rattle loudly. nissan said the repair would be about $2,400.00. apparently this is a very common problem with the nissan 3.5 engine and should be subject to a recall.

 My car engine has been making a clicking noise for the past 10,000 miles and seems to be getting worse. on taking it into the dealer at approx 95,000 miles, they told me i needed to have the timing chain replaced with other incidentals for a cost of approx $3200., $2300 alone for the timing belt aspect. i did not follow through with the timing chain repair but only the repair of the high speed steering hose. i have been reviewing the timing chain reports and it definitely seem that nissan has a problem with failing timing chains and it does seem like a manufacturing defect and as such should be recalled. i strongly recommend that nhtsa start an investigation into recalling all the nissan timing chain vehicles.

 Loud rattling in my engine when i start my van and when i drive through town. very embarressing! mechanic thinks it is the timing chain tensioners in the engine that is going to cost over $3,500. i only have 94,000 miles on the van so it should not be doing this!

 My 2004 nissan quest se caught on fire and was totaled. the vehicle has been acting strange and 5 days prior to the fire was the last day i drove it. it would not crank after i put it in the garage and so i was going to have it towed to the nissan dealer the next week. it was not touched after that day until we were awoke by our smoke alarms. we opened our garage door as it was the nearest exit only to realize the fire was in the garage. when we went outside around to the garage we saw that the fire was coming from under the hood of the van out the windshield and passenger side front tire. *tr

 Tl*the contact owns a 2004 nissan quest. the contact stated that the ecm failed and stalled the computer in the vehicle. the vehicle is under warranty, but the dealer and manufacturer did not cover the repair cost. the contact paid $1,300 to repair the vehicle. the dealer stated that the ecm failed due to corrosion build-up. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 73,403.

 In december of 2006 we purchased a 2004 nissan quest se. the first year was not entirely trouble free, the drivers seat would self adjust while driving. the dealer fixed it no charge. the in december of 07 the trans went out, again the dealer covered it at no charge, gave us a loaner and were done within a week. except for the inconvenience of not having our van we were fine until now!!! in june of 08 we were going for a sunday drive and the van just died in the middle of the street. nothing would work nothing, no power anywhere. we called road side and all they could do was tow us to al piemonte nissan in melrose park, il. the following monday, the dealer calls and tells us the ecu is burnt out, and has some corrosion. it's covered under warranty so no need to far right!!! a week later we finally get a loaner, ok not too bad. two months go by and we finally have word that we have a date when the part will arrive!!!!! the part gets installed but the van runs like crap omg you mean they actually tested it!!!! they now are replacing a cracked distributor, god only knows how that happened!!!! the dealr does not charge us for that, but the van still runs like crap so now they have to replace three of the 6 coils and well we had to pay over $800 bucks for that. totally not expecting that we had to charge it, putting us in the hole even deeper. you know we haven't spent alot of $ on this car but for a 4 year old car it sure has had alot of major components replaced. the the freaking dealer doesn't test the car, so we leave and the remotes, doors, sunroof, windows don't work. the center counsil is falling apart and they didn't even clean the

 Dt*: the contact stated while driving various speeds, the engine stalled without warning. afterwards, the engine would not restart, and the vehicle was towed to the dealer. initially, the dealer determined the battery needed to be replaced, but the problem persisted. the dealer later determined the throttle body needed to be replaced. after the replacement, the stalling continued, and the vehicle was taken to the dealer to await installation of a data recorder to record any type of failure within the vehicle. the manufacturer was alerted.

 Dt: the brakes heat up and the rotors warp. the steering wheel would start shaking when the consumer applied the brakes. the vehicle was taken to the dealership at that point. the consumer stated it happened every 4000 miles since she has had the vehicle. it first happened in march of 2004. the dealership is telling the consumer that the brakes are heating up. the rotors have been resurfaced three times. they ordered new rotors and they have been on for approximately 3 months and the steering wheel is shaking again. she has also gone through two fuel injectors. she was told that she is putting low grade fuel into the vehicle. *jb other issues: the passenger side auto door would rattle when the vehicle was in motion, abnormal shifting, engine light had come on, rear wiper had broken, steering wheel would shake due to the brakes, the front left seat back was loose due to poor fit, mouding on the rear of the driver's seat was coming off, the fuel gauge was stuck on empty after two fill ups. *sc

 Nissan quest 2004 service engine soon light on and problems with steering. *bf the service engine soon light had come on 3 times, creaking was felt in the steering wheel and or the front end, sounds were heard coming from the engine compartment, computer tire monitor indicated a flat tire and or low tire pressure during cold weather, the vehicle would run for five minutes then go up to 4 degrees higher (over inflated), when the weather was warm, the setting would then be above 40 psi which was dangerous to drive if not adjusted (incorrect results on the display), srs light had come on after recall campaign #04v103000 was performed, driver's side power window was intermittent, sliding doors made loud bump noise when opened all the way, especially on inclines, heat outlets located on the floor behind the first row seat can't be controlled by the passenger rear controls, the dome lights were not working, the door rattled, the drivers side front window would not move, the window switch has an open circuit, the vehicle was jerking upon acceleration at 30 mph, rear heater was blowing cold air, there was a heavy grinding noise when the vehicle was first started after sitting for more than one hour along with the power steering, transmission fluid leaked a reddish/purple fluid on the garage floor, the interior lights were inoperative and there was an evaporation leak. *sc *jb

 The service engine light came on , the consumer has taken the vehicle in on three occasions. each time a different service was performed, to include, the computer was reprogrammed, a fuel assembly repair, and a small leak in the vent control valve. the vehicle is in the shop for the check engine light on again.*ak

 I have had nothing but problems, both big and small, with my brand new nissan quest se. i can almost deal with the sqeaks, rattles, broken buttons, broken lights, malfunctioning sensors, radio problems, and malfunctioning slider doors, but the problem i cannot accept is the failure of the car to run during damp or cold days. the car cranks and starts after a few attempts, but when it is put into drive it either lags as if it's running out of fuel, or dies completely. this has happened on at least 8 occassions, 2 of which i had to call a tow truck because i could not restart the car. unfortunately, my dealership cannot replicate the problem so nothing has been done. meanwhile, i never know if my car will run on these days, i have even been forced to walk down the street in below zero windchill temperatures with my children in order to get help. i purchased a new car to have safety and peace of mind, and instead i am losing sleep at night and asking nissan to buy this car back. i will list the most recent occurrence on the form, but please note this has happened at least 8 times.*ak

 Nissan 2004 quest, while driving and making left in intersection van dies. take it in to nssan dealership and unable to run dianostic test due to engine not running. they believe its a timing chain problem and need to open engine.other consumer reports with problems with timing belts. we're a family of seven, if it would have happened while on freeway most likely would have had fatalaties involved. nissan refuses to practice any goodwill finacial assistance.

 The timing chain guides (teflon based material) in the vq35 engines were prematurely causing audible rubbing and banging upon start up and early warm up idle conditions. this premature wear of the tension guides is a safety hazard due to the fact that the timing chain has undo slack from early degradation of tension guides which may cause the timing chain to wear/break prematurely and without warning while driving at highway speeds. this would cause the engine to shut down unexpectedly and put the lives of the vehicles occupants in danger of possibly being struck my oncoming vehicles.

 Tl- the contact owns a 2004 nissan quest. while examining the vehicle the contact noticed that the check engine light had appeared on the dashboard. the vehicle was taken to the dealership where the oxygen sensor was replaced, however 2 weeks after the repair the contact still noticed the failure. the current and failure mileages were 94000. bml

 My van had the red key warning light go on and smelled like electrical burning. i had it towed immediately to a nissan dealer kelly nissan lynnfield ma. they did check the bulletins until after test driving it twice and burning out the ignition coils they just replaced and burned out my catalytic converter (they put a new one on without reporting it) they were advised in writing not to do any work except replace the coils they said they burned out and only then at no cost to me. they replaced more than what was originally written, charged me and when they test drove it and ruined the converter it sucked up debris into the engine and destroyed my engine. called corporate nissan who said they could not help ( after they gave a 300.00 coupon because of the deception prior to finding out about the damaged engine). it all started from a loose ground wire that caused the coils to overwork and burned out. i ended up paying about $900 for repairs because the misdiagnosed and damaged parts, now the engine is estimated at 6800. to replace. i m disabled and barely able to afford the roof over my head and food. this is unacceptable behavior, niss says the dealers are independantly owned, yet they l have the same maker. i kept the coils they put in however they removed a box with the first replaced ones and did to put them all back for me as instructed. i have two technicians one a nissan tech who says it is directly due to kelly nissan's misdiagnosis and driving of the car to the point of burning up the parts. what does a consumer need to do to protect themselves? the car is out of warranty. all parts except the converter they also kept and the initial coils i have. the van was towed to the shop i used and engine light came on immediately from first time driven still in dealer lot, they could to find problem although heard sound from engine and read the misfire codes until second look after it started pouring smoke out the exhaust and sound became so bad and car was deemed unsafe to drive. *tr

 Tl*the contact owns a 2004 nissan quest. while the vehicle was parked for 45 minutes, it spontaneously caught fire and was completely destroyed. an investigator inspected the vehicle and concluded that the fire originated in the engine compartment due to a failure of the power distribution box. the contact has a copy of the police report and pictures of the incident. the manufacturer denied any responsibility for the failure. the failure mileage was 60,000. updated 11/17/08 *cn updated 11/13/08. *jb

 Was told on 6/28/08 that my quest needed a new brain for the computer and this is what was causing the vehicle to not go out of second gear. we are still waiting on the part and nissan usa has no answers for when the part will be in. they have refused us a rental because it is not their policy because the 5/60 warranty is out, but the part to the engine is under warranty. the car is unsafe to drive - the transmission often slips as well as provides no acceleration most of the time. *tr

 I have a 2004 nissan quest s. in november 2007 i called the dealership to complain that every time i start my van it blows out white smoke. i had about 58,000 miles. i bought the van used from a nissan dealership. i was never informed that the warranty was extended to 60,000 miles. the mechanics advised me to put in some no smoke/ no leak into the oil and i should be fine. so, because these are professionals, i listen. the problem persisted so i called nissan consumer affairs department. they advised me to take it to the dealership to be diagnosed. i now had 61,000 miles. i took in my van and they kept it all day. they called to say they needed every receipt of oil changes, to prove i kept up the maintenance. they said i have a sludged motor and need a new engine. nissan will not help me because there is no record of me calling before my warranty was up and they said it was lack of maintenance, not covered. even though i gave a years worth of oil change receipts. also, they never actually ran a diagnosis test on my van. they just used their expertise, and experience to come up with a sludged motor. later my van starts vibrating quite badly when brakes are applied, so i take it to a mechanic who says i have a misfire, and a blown head gasket. (they also say this could have caused the sludged motor). i replace the spark plug 250.00 later. i call nissan again and say what i have been old only to be told it still would not be covered, that i need a new engine. that it isn't their responsibility to make sure the van was kept up before i bought it. i feel that if i buy a certified preowned vehicle i should not have to worry about putting in a new engine. they said if i didn't like their service i should contact the bbb. i feel this is unethical, and poor customer service. they will not help with anything and meanwhile, i am still making payment on this van. they quoted me 5,000.00 foe a used motor and it would only have a 90 day warranty. *tr

 I purchased a certified pre-owed nissan quest 2004 10/25/06 from porter nissan 600 ogletown road,newark de. on 10/26/06 i drove the car to new york to see my daughter and i became very sick. i had headache, nausea and felt ill while i drove the car. i got in the car return back to delaware, the more i drove the car the sicker i became, headache ,nausea,dizziness, i had to pull over 3 times prior to arriving to de. i realized that the car was making me ill and continue my journey to return the car to the dealer 10/27/06 approx 9-10 am. i also informed the dealer that the rear floor rugs continue to be wet! then i proceeded to emergency room for treatment. later porter nissan found a crack in exhaust system and the fumes made me sick. i could have died or hurt some on the road. i believe that buying a certified car should prevent a consumer from buy a lemon. i afraid to drive the car again, my headache come and goes. just the thought of getting that car make feel ill. porter nissan is trying to make me take that car back. and i truly don't feel safe in the car. how ever i do want another nissan quest because i am mini-van driver and it is the car that i wanted. but i don't want to die trying to find out if the car is safe. i drive 1 hour to work and i am long distance driver , i spend more hours in my car than i do at home. a certified pre-owed is suppose to be safe!!!!!!!!! help me please i have a appoint with porter nissan approx 5-6pm 10/30/06 try to contact me. highly concern

 Dt: the consumer noticed when the doors were shut, the lights illuminated as if the door were open. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, and they reported it was fixed. the problem returned when consumer drove the vehicle home that day. there was a problem with the hatchback door lock. when closing the door, the consumer had to bang it hard to get it closed. the sliding door was having problems as well, it must be slammed in order to close it. the dealership has attempted to fix the problems with the doors. the tire problems began about 2 weeks after the purchase of the vehicle. tire lights are coming on, indicating that the tires are loosing air. owner advises that one time the tire light would come on about every block. the vehicle was taken to the dealership after this. the tire had a nail in it. there is also problems with the transmission. when shifting from park to drive, it is very difficult to shift. owner received a recall letter about this last year and in january of 2005. the recall number is not available. the dealership states that this recall is closed. the dealership won't look any further into the transmission. there is a problem with the front passenger seat, you could see the metal in the seat. the radio has been replaced three times. it is now needing to be replaced again. the car has a bad smell, like rotten eggs. the smell is coming from engine. dealership reports it is coming from a computer chip and it still smelled after replacement. the same smell returned and then the owner returned the car to the dealership, they kept it for two months. the dealership replaced the catalytic converter. the owner advises that there is still a bad smell. the dealership reported the smell must be sulfuric acid. the owner went to the doctor in regards to the bad chemical smell that burns. the vehicle had problems with the battery. owner paid for car rental. *jb the drivers seat moved when the consumer applied the brakes.*jb

 The consumer noticed while driving, a rotten smell would come in from the vents. the consumer was able to drive to the dealer for inspection. the consumer informed the mechanic on several occasions this problem has occurred. this problem has not been resolved. please provide additional information. *jb there is still a rotten egg smell coming from the catalytic converter. also the tire pressure monitoring system indicates a flat tire when tire is not flat. consumer is happy with the minivan except for the sulfur smell and the false tire readings. *tt

 This is a follow up to my original complaint. after my 2004 nissan quest was brought to the dealership it was found that one of the three catalytic converters went bad. when the caltalytic converter failed it damaged the other two, and in doing so it damaged the engine causing it to be replaced. my van is still in the shop being repaired and i have not been offered any kind of compensation. i have contacted nissan costumer service and filed a complaint and i am still awaiting a reply from them. i was told that there are several upgrades for my vehicle and they would contact the dealer and have those done while my vehicle was there.*ak

 While applying the accelerator pedal, the vehicle failed to accelerate. within seconds of parking the vehicle a fire occurred. the vehicle displayed a dangerously slow acceleration as if the transmission was in the wrong gear when trying to accelerate the vehicle. there was also poor fuel economy (11.6 to 12.1 mpg instead of the normal 19-26 mpg). also, within the first few weeks of ownership, the power sliding door on the right side opened independently on two occasions and failed to open or close on several occasions, there were problems with the control buttons, the radio text display on the dash read malfunction multiple times and sometimes it occured when the engine was started. *ak *sc there was a problem with the catalytic converter. *jb
