I have a harmonic vibration felt through the steering wheel on my 04 quest s. over long distances, the shaking causes numbness of the hands. the dealer has attempted to resolve the problem three times before ultimately declaring that this is the normal operating condition of the vehicle. i believe that this is completely unacceptable. this is a log of what was done to resolve the issue: month 22 in service: 28-jun-05 @ 29,972 miles - replaced all four goodyear eagle ls 225/65r16 tires as per dealer recommendation. reason: worn. (part# oetir-06482). this is when the shimmy effect became obvious. the problem was reported to the dealer. month 23 in service: 15-aug-05 @ 32,305 miles - re balanced all 4 tires. no effect. month 23 in service: 22-aug-05 @ 32,727 miles - replaced front two tires. tires road force balanced. no effect. month 24 in service: 7-sep-05 @ 33,101 miles - re balanced all wheels and checked road force. checked front hub runout. adjusted steering rack force. cleaned all mating surfaces between hub and rotor and rotor and wheel. dealer claims road tested ok. no effect. month 25 in service: 28-sep-05 @ 33,985 miles - road test. dealer states normal operating condition for vehicle. i have reported the issue to nissan consumer affairs (case # 5066744) but they refuse to accept responsibility for the issue by stating that it is a normal operating condition. *nm

SUSPENSION - FRONT

We bought our quest used from a honda dealership in december 2008. we were told it was in very good condition. the electric doors do not always open or close when we want them to... they seem to have a mind of their own. the passenger airbags turn themselves on and off. after only driving it for a few months, the front end started popping when we would turn a corner. we checked the lower ball joints, being as this is a typical characteristic. there was no problem with them. we continued to drive it. about 3 months ago, the van started shaking real bad when we would brake, and the front tires started lifting tread. we took the van to a mechanic to check the alignment and source of shaking. he told us the alignment was fine... no adjustments were needed. he said the popping was the ball joints. we bought two new ball joints, and upon removing the control arm and ball joint assembly, we realized the problem was in the rear bushing of the front control arm, not the ball joint. the rubber is rotted out. you can not see this problem until you remove the whole arm. i was told i had to hit a curb really hard to break these, but have not hit any curbs hard ever in this van. i feel the dealer should have to fix this, since i have noticed this is an extrememly reoccuring problem with this year/make/model. upon replacing the tires, the new ones treads are lifting. they were replaced 6 weeks ago.

At only 85,000 miles both front control arms needed to be replaced. cause of failure - the front strutts had worn out, once they wore out they placed additional stress on the control arms which failed. total bill just $1,783.00. the dealership did not see this when they replaced the brakes approx 3 weeks prior. we noticed it, because the front end started making a crunching noise when the brakes were applied, and i thought it had to do with the brakes that were just replaced.

SUSPENSION - REAR

Dt: the contact owns a 2004 nissan quest. there have been several problems, such as unidentified noises that came from the rear of the vehicle. when applying brakes at red lights the car will respond by accelerating. when driving through turns or an intersection the car responded in third gear instead of first. the doors vibrated as if they will open by themselves. the vehicle has been to the dealer numerous times, which was most often deemed normal by the nissan dealer. also, the steering wheel made noises. this was discovered by nissan after complaining three times, and a manufacturer's representative who duplicated the problem and found a broken plastic piece within the steering. this vehicle was under lemon law investigation. the dealer was unable to provide any explanations as to why these problems occurred. there have been multiple corrections, at least ten times. recently there was a recall on the second row seats, but recall repairs could not be performed until december 2005. *ak
