Defect SummaryNissan is recalling certain model year 2008-2010 titan, armada, and infiniti qx56, and model year 2008-2009 nissan quest vehicles. the brake pedal pivot pin end was not spin-formed to specification during the manufacturing process of the brake pedal assembly. the pivot pin could slide and cause the brake pedal to partially disengage from the brake pedal bracket.
Consequence SummaryThe driver will experience unusual and noticeable looseness in the pedal and a reduction in braking force increasing the risk of a crash.
Corrective SummaryDealers will inspect to see if the pivot pin had been formed properly and will replace the brake pedal assembly if necessary free of charge. the safety recall began on march 22, 2010. owners may contact nissan at 1-800-647-7261.

 Tl* the contact owns a 2008 nissan quest. while driving at approximate speeds of 30-35 mph in traffic, the vehicle ahead of him stopped abruptly. the contact attempted to engage the brake pedal; however, the brakes became spongy and would not engage. the vehicle crashed into the rear of the preceding vehicle. upon impact, the front drivers side air bag deployed, causing minor injuries to the contacts hands and face. the police were called and a police report was filed. he also previously received notification of nhtsa campaign id number 10v072000 (service brakes, hydraulic: pedals and linkages) and stated that the crash was caused by the recall defect. the failure mileage was 17,142 and the current mileage was 27,600. updated 05/11/10 *lj
