Defect SummaryNissan is recalling 204,361 my 2007-2008 altima, altima hybrid, 350z, 350z roadster, my 2008 altima coupe, rogue, my 2009 murano, and infiniti my 2007-2008 g35 sedan, my 2008 g37 coupe and ex35 passenger vehicles equipped with continental automotive systems' occupant classification system (ocs) control units. a varistor in the ocs control unit located in the passenger seat cushion may have been manufactured out of specification. under certain conditions, this could cause an interruption of signal between the ocs and the air bag control unit (acu).
Consequence SummaryThis could result in the passenger air bag being suppressed which could fail to provide adequate protection in the event of a crash.
Corrective SummaryDealers will test the signal between the ocs and acu systems using a special tool to check that it is functioning as designed. if necessary, the seat cushion (containing ocs hardware) will be replaced with a new one manufactured to specification. the recall began on november 4, 2008. owners may contact nissan at 1-800-647-7261 or infiniti at 1-800-662-6200.

Nhtsa previously conducted a recall on 2008 nissan rogues for problems with the passenger seat sensor not connecting properly with the srs, making the srs indicator flash and rendering the passenger airbag useless. i purchased my rogue used a little over a year ago, and when the problem arose, checked your database to find if there was a recall. the nissan customer service folks tell me that my vin is not associated with the recall. a brief search on google hoping to help me figure out how much this repair would cost, indicates that i am not the only rogue owner affected by this. i wonder if the recall was sufficiently broad. it is possible that this malfunctioned on its own, but wanted to make you aware.

AIR BAGS - FRONTAL

My wife and i leased a 2008 nissan rouge two years ago. an issue has since transpired. in october of 2009 we noticed that the passanger airbag light occassionally goes on regardless of the size of the person sitting there. this light indicates that the airbag is off. we took it to nissan and they could not duplicate the problem. over this last year the issue continues to arise. i decided to take the vehicle in this past monday with a routine check. prior to my dropping the vehicle off i decided to record it on my phone as we were driving seeing as though i could not bring the car to the dealership as soon as it was happening. after the car was there for a few hours, i got a call back saying that there is nothing wrong with the car and they are ready to release. i am still not comfortable driving the vehicle so i left it there and call customer affairs. finally after 4 days, they returned my call. they indicated that they spoke to the shop and are not authorizing any repairs or paying for the rental vehicle as they could not duplicate the problem. they are refusing to fix this issue and are saying that my 125 lb wife may be too light to activate the bag sensor.

Vehicle is an 2008 rogue not in your database. i used an altima for processing passenger airbag randomly turning itself off when female adult of 110 pounds is properly seated and buckled. happens intermittently and system tests at dealership are not revealing faulty sensors. *tr
AIR BAGS - SIDE/WINDOW

On november 5, 2008, i started my 2008 nissan rogue. both side air bags deployed. i called love nissan, where i purchased the vehicle. they sent a wrecker to pick up my vehicle. they ordered parts and replaced the following components: air bag diagnostic unit, 2 side air bag modules, 2 front seat belt assemblies, headliner, and center garnish finishers. they told me the board in the diagnostic unit was bubbled and they probably would never know what caused this. previous to this incident, i took my vehicle back for the following reasons: purchased vehicle november 5, 2007. on november 15, 2007, i took it back to the dealership due to the air bag warning light. a diagnostic test was performed. diagnostic: no codes found or stored at this time, test drove, rechecked codes, no problems found at this time. on january 19, 2007, returned to the dealership because of the same problem. diagnostic test: no dtc stored in system. at this time all working properly. test drove. ok. on january 22, 2008, returned to the dealership due to the same problem. dealership ordered and replaced: air bag diagnostic control unit, passenger side air bag sensor, and bottom cushion frame assembly. i am afraid to drive this vehicle not knowing if the air bags will deploy again while i am driving. this would cause me to wreck. *tr
