As so many others have experienced, the rear axle seals are leaking fluid on rear brake rotors which is causing brakes to fail. this is a major safety concern and expense. nissan should be made to fix issue. only have 54000 miles on vehicle

Rear drum brake liner detatched from backing plate while driving. a loud banging noise was made. the vehicle was immediately driven to a nissan dealer. a loaner car was offered to me. a technician diagnosed the following; the brake liner caused nonreparable damage to abs sensor, drive shaft, dust shield, and brake pads. the truck had 65,757 miles on the truck.parts took 6 days to order. the bill was $2,300. nissan honored warranty on the drive shaft. total bill was $1,232,48. the damage was caused by the brake liner detatching from the backing plate, the loose brake pad caused the destruction. other work performed was repair of the evap system.

I drove about 20 feet when i heard a loud noise and realized i had fogot the parking brake on. i took it off and drove away. the next day i heard more noise and one of my rear brakes seemed to be dragging. i decided to take it to the dealer. on the highway, all hell broke loose with crazy noise and grinding, then it went away. this happened several times on the way to dealer. with my 4 year old daughter in the back seat i limped the car into the dealer with no emergency brakes working. thankfully we were all okay and i did not loose control of the vehicle. the dealer said it would be at least $1,700 to fix it as the whole rear axle needed to be replaced due to the seals blowing out and leaking out all over the pads. i have not had any problem with this vehicle except for brakes, brakes and more brake issues. i think the e brake being on may have caused the seal to blow out then the axle and brakes just melted. something is wrong with this vehicles brake design. if these seals are know to be bad by nissan they should at least recommend replacing them so owners can protect themselves and avoid accidents,

Parking brake does not provide sufficient braking power to hold vehicle in place or provide any noticeable braking. this is a design flaw. i have taken the vehicle in to have the brakes serviced. the rear brake pads, discs, and cables where replaced and no improvement in performance was observed. *tr

My 2004 nissan titan rear diff seals leak and has caused a brake failure. i pulled out of my driveway and was driving down the road when all of a sudden my rear end locks up. it took a few moments to get her going again in reverse. i jacked it up and removed the tires and removed the rotors. the pad on the emergency brake system fail off. it still had plenty of pad left on it. my father looked at it and noticed the fluid leaking from my rear end. he told me that probably caused the failure due to the contamination. replaced the pad and added some oiled to the rear end. i have researched this issue online and found numerous complaints about this and other brake failures also. there should be a recall for this issue. my exhaust manifold leaks also. i am replacing it too. this is a known issue with the titans. this may be of more concern with the epa. they have been know to crack. *tr

Problem started gradually as occasional noises, such as clunking and rattling, from the wheels while driving. took vehicle in to dealer who could not find the problem. one day later while driving, heard awful grating noise from wheels and abs/vdc light came on. took vehicle to dealer who stated that the emergency brake pad broke loose and destroyed the rotor, the abs sensor, etc. ($1,200 in damage). during the two weeks after service, the brake light has illuminated about 3 or 4 times. when the light is on, the brakes react as if in abs mode and grip and grind while stopping. turning off the vehicle usually makes the light go off and the brakes then operate normally. the vehicle is currently back at the dealer, who stated they do not know what is wrong as they have not been able to re-create the problem. *tr

As i was leaving my home 8/05/2008 my 2004 nissan titan pu came to an complete stop because the rear axle locked up. dealership stated the rear seals gave out because of corrosion near seal area. the parking brake shoes came apart on both sides and lodged in the wheels causing them to lock up. *tr

Grinding noise from the rear of my 2004 nissan titan caused me to have it towed to the dealer. the dealer states that the differential is blown, and that new bearings and seals are needed to fix. the truck has only 71,000 miles, regularly serviced and has never towed a thing. *tr

I have a 2004 nissan titan. had truck in for tire rotation. service person noticed rear axle seals were leaking. explained this is a big safety issue because of fluid leaking on brakes. nissan said they would need to inspect and probably replace brakes when fixing seals, thus admitting they are unsafe.*jb
