Just last friday (03-15-2013) afternoon, while looking over the truck- i decided to look underneath it to give it a once over.earlier in the week i had noticed the brake pedal kind of spongy(especially in the morning). i thought there might be a problem with the brakes. to my surprise i found that both rear axles were splattered with fluid(axle grease).i had read that this was a problem with early model titans. i went into a titan forum and found there were a lot of folks, that owned these trucks-having the same problem. in the forum there was this very site to report this issue.so thus this writing.

Driving vehicle on expressway at approximately 60 mph and vehicle lost engine power and turned off. dangerous experience.

The vehicle displayed intermittent chemical type odor through hvac system, 3 dealerships unable/unwilling to confirm, or seek direction from corporate as to method for resolution at my suggestion/request. i waited one year to allow for vehicle to off-gas interior odors from materials used in manufacture, had to insist that dealer staff document the concern which is yet unresolved and denied assistance from consumer affairs deptartment to satisfy health and safety concerns. incurred significant additional expenses to alleviate issue such as in cabin air filter and purchase of ionizing unit; plus missed workdays, transportation, fuel and service and diagnostic fees at dealerships.

The rear differential went out and this seems to be a very common problem on this make of vehicle. there should be an investigation and recall on this vehicle.

Differential started to wine at about 58,000 miles. noticed that the right rear-end of diff is leaking oil. reported it to dealer, but they said nothing is wrong, do not hear anything, no idea what it is. concerned that the oil may end up on the rear brake rotors in which case rear brake failure may occur. rear end starting to fail now at 72,000

Exactly like the frequent problem with the 2005 nissan pathfinder and xterra, the radiator failed causing coolant to mix with the transmission fluid.

The rear axle seals are leaking and has caused my rear breaks to slip due to the differential oil getting on my break pads and rotors. this is my second encounter of this problem and nissan still refuses to do anything about it

Winding noise coming out of rear end, rear differential failing, bearings failing

I was driving on the freeway where the speed limit is 65 mph. i was going that speed when, what i thought was my drive shaft, basically exploded and fell apart whilst i was in motion. i have kept up one all mandatory and basic maintenance work and have never had a problem with it before. parts flew out from all around my truck and it slammed into a complete stop as if i had made impact into something. passing vehicles had to stay clear of the debris an i had to push my truck into the emergency lane. highway patrol asked if i was alright and i stated to have already had a tow truck on its way. when my truck was towed to the shop they said the rear end actually gave way and broke, including the drive shaft which snapped into two pieces, one of which was launched into traffic. luckily no other vehicles were damaged nor people hurt. the mechanics said they've been in business for 57 years and i was lucky to have come out of that the way i did, because in most cases the truck would have flipped and rolled. the damages were extensive and extreme for something i had no control over. the shop informed me that this was nothing to do with the way i was driving it or anything i could have done, and they found it weird that it happened the way it did. very dangerous and near traumatizing. i was unable to select the correct components above so i just wanted to be clear that it had everything to do with my drive shaft, rear differential, and power line.

While traveling to go on a 13 hour drive, all of our engine lights came on and the truck became sluggish. we had truck towed and got a call from dealership saying what happen was muffler/exhaust unit fell off during travel and the unit remaining got so hot it burned out entire part of truck including, ecu, rear right harness, and 3 other things. cost to fix over $3,000. after paying hefty bill shop manager said this was the 5th titan in our small town he had same issue with and that he agrees this is the worst place for a unit on a truck and manufacturer should of put other location. i then filed a complaint with nissan consumer affairs. they acted like they cared and then 3 weeks later they denied helping me at all saying it was out of warranty. i did research on line and lots of people are having same issue. this is a huge safey concern and i think needs to be recalled and i need to be reimbursed for my repairs. i find it odd that the exhaust manifold also cracked on the truck on the right and left side and nissan covers that until 80,000 miles.

Within a 5 mile range the vehicle started to whine, then clank, then lock-up. emergency brakes failed and rear differential failed... vehicle was undriveable. this vehicle just hit 100,000 miles. repair is > 1/5th of vehicle value. this is a very common failure in 2004 nissan titans. very dangerous - especially if towing a trailer (which is what this vehicle is advertised to do)

Ticking noise discovered when starting the truck. sounds seems to come from lower engine compartment or from front wheel-wells. suspected a leaking exhaust pipe. took truck to nissan dealership and was informed the exhaust manifolds (left and right) were both cracked. estimated cost was $2100. advised by nissan technician to just leave it alone as the only result of this problem was the ticking noise and a little worse mileage than usual. over the last year, several instances of engine fumes causing passengers to roll windows down. suspect the fumes are coming from the manifolds since no other exhaust leaks have been found.

Rear axle seal leaking at 60,000 miles, causing rear brakes & parking brake not to work well.

Rear axle seal leaking on brakes. truck wont stop very well.nissan knows about this problem.

My brakes started to fail. upon inspection it was determined that my rear axle seals had failed. fluid has leaked all over the bottom, into my brakes. resulting in total brake replacement. it is very costly and i am currently trying to find a shop to fix. apparently it is mainly a dealer repair; how convenient.

Went to start truck and as i started driving there was a loud bang from the rear of truck and the truck stopped moving forward then the engine revved and it seemed to catch and the truck moved forward slowly. the entire rear end of the truck went out and now needs to be replaced. lucky i was only going 5mph.

I was driving my 2004 nissan titan and my rear end locked up on me. i lost control of the vehicle but was able to avoid crashing. come to find out it was a bad rear seal on both sides. seems to be a common problem with this truck

My rear axel differential on my 2004 nissan titan se leaked gear oil for the second time in 3 years. my truck had 59,900 miles when it occured for the second time. i called nissan motor company. they said they would not cover the repair. i had to repair the truck at my expense due to nissans bad designed of the rear differential axel (seals).

I have a 2004 nissan titan truck. a rear axle seal leaked. this is the second time i've had it leak. differential gear oil leaks, which could get on the brakes. the first time, i had to replace the differential which also failed. i replaced the seal and bearings. this will be the second time i will be replacing them. if i had not checked it would have been a safety issue, as oil could get on the brakes. also, due to nissan's policy of not selling rear end parts (in the differential) i had to buy a whole new rear end the first time. i did not save the old parts.

The events leading up to my front end axle failure was due to slight use of the 4wd in mild snow conditions the first time. i had it repaired by a factory nissan authorized dealer and had the same problem occur less than 30,000 miles later. nissan is saying its not their fault but i was not abusing the 4wd simply just using it. basically the front left axle breaks a clip and the axle shaft going into the differential slides down. over time unnoticed i'm sure this could be detremental to the front end components until a catastrophic steering/wheel failure. i will be trying to contact nissan to get their story of why this keeps occuring.

Rear axle seal leaks; 2004 nissan titan

The door handles on my 2004 nissan titan all freeze shut when it gets cold out. it seems to let water come in around handle and than it freezes. this prevent me from being able to gain entrance into vehicle. this occurs everytime it is cold out especially in winter. nissan refuses to pay for repairs as vehicle is out of warranty and it will cost roughly $175 for parts per door plus labor. i guess in later models they have redesigned them but refuses to fix vehicles with old old designed handles. *tr
