Defect SummaryNissan is recalling certain model year 2004-2006 armada, titan, infiniti qx56 and model year 2005-2006 frontier, pathfinder and xterra vehicles. the intelligent power distribution module (ipdm) assembly contains an engine control module (ecm) relay that has a diode for electrical current noise reduction. the ecm relay may allow silicon vapor to form and, over time, the silicon evaporates from the diode molding which causes silicon oxide to develop on the ecm relay contact due to arcing.
Consequence SummaryThis could cause engine stalling increasing the risk of a crash.
Corrective SummaryDealers will replace the ecm relay inside the ipdm assembly. this service will be performed free of charge. the safety recall is expected to begin during december 2010. owners may contact nissan at 1-800-647-7261.

PE08037NISSAN NORTH AMERICA, INC.05/30/200808/25/2008ENGINE COMPARTMENT FIRE08V284000
On may 30, 2008, the office of defects investigation (odi) opened a preliminary evaluation based on consumer complaints alleging that smoke and/or fire erupted in the engine compartment of model year (my) 2005-2006 nissan armada and titan vehicles.by letter dated june 24, 2008, nissan notified the national highway traffic safety administration (nhtsa) that it will conduct a safety recall (nhtsa #08v284) for my2005-2006 nissan titan, armada and infiniti qx56 vehicles manufactured from march 17, 2005 to august 21, 2006 that are equipped with a 90-watt air conditioning condenser fan.the recall involves approximately 180,664 vehicles.this also includes approximately 5,689 subject condenser fans, some of which may have been installed in my2004 and pre-march 17, 2005 my nissan titan, armada or infiniti qx56 vehicles as a service replacement part.nissan dealers will install a special thermal protector kit on existing fans that will eliminate the potential for a fire to occur.nissan north america, inc. (nissan) informed odi that the 90-watt air conditioning condenser fan was manufactured out-of-specification allowing for excessive water intrusion and inadequate drainage of moisture that may accumulate in the motor as a result of water intrusion or condensation.if sufficient moisture accumulates in the motor without adequate drainage, corrosion may occur.the corrosion can cause an increase in internal friction and an increase in the electrical current draw, resulting in an increase in the temperature of the motor that could melt its wiring insulation and other plastic components and form a gas.if two wires without insulation touch each other and create a spark, this gas could ignite and result in a fire.the action taken by nissan is sufficient to resolve the issue raised by this investigation.accordingly, this investigation is closed.

After having ipdm module replaced (campaign number 10v517000), the ses light showed bad catalytic converters within a few thousand miles. the ipdm module failed before being replaced and it caused raw fuel to be dumped on the catalytic converters which caused them to fail. i think nissan should be responsible for the cost of failed catalytic converters when their faulty part caused the damage. this is an expensive repair ($2,800). after looking at forums on the internet, i see many people having issues with the titan catalytic converters and having them fail before the vehicle reaches 100k miles. i filed a complaint with nissan and they would not help with the repair. they said the faulty ipdm would not cause cats to fail. *tr

Cracked exhaust manifolds on both sides of v8 engine as diagnosed by nissan dealer. result -- will leak raw exhaust gasses into passenger compartment and into atmosphere. investigation reveals cracked manifolds to be a huge problem for nissan titans and large numbers of titans are affected. nissan emission warranty only covers 8yrs/80,000 miles. but since these exhaust manifolds are clearly defective due to improper design and pose a serious safety threat and emissions problem they should be replaced at nissan's expense regardless of vehicle age or mileage.

I was having an issue with my engine stalling with around 97,900 miles on my 2005 nissan titan. at this time, my check engine light also came on. i took it to the dealership to get the problem code read and they said i had faulty bank 1 and bank 2 catalytic converters. the dealer said the stalling was due to a recall, nhtsa campaign id number: 10v517000. my complaint is that i had no problem with my catalytic converters until this recall issue. since my catalytic converters and exhaust manifold are one piece, it cost $2,827.28 to have them replaced and i do not feel i should have to pay this, since this problem stemmed from their recall issue.

I own a 2005 nissan titan king cab, which i purchased it in november of 2005. after, approximately 30days of ownership and 500 miles of travel; the front brakes began to experience complications (they would shudder while braking and create an unreasonable amount of brake dust.) i quickly return to my local dealership where i purchased it, for servicing. the nissan dealership repaired the rotors. during the summer of 2006, i began to notice a musty odor emitting from the floor and carpeting of the passenger side. during a routine oil change and requested the mechanic to inspect the truck for the cause of the odor. they couldn't locate the source of the odor. i returned the truck to the dealership for the same problem on several other occasions, during the summer of 2007 odor reappeared; they replaced the rubber gasket around door windows in hopes of resolving the issue. meanwhile the front brakes rotors were replaced again and the gauges (fuel, oil, tach ,voltmeter) acting erratically. the dealership repaired the brakes under my extended warranty & prorated my purchase of a new nissan auto battery; according to service dept. this was the cause of the gauges malfunction. then again in2008, i was told the brakes were no longer under warranty and that the musty odor was caused by water coming into the cabin via a small void in the window sealant around the factory installed windshield

About two years ago i started hearing a ticking noise on my 2005 nissan titan pu at start up. couldn't for the life of me figure out what it was until nissan sent me an owner notification card about cracks in the exhaust manifolds. then it dawned on me what that ticking noise was when cold start up took place. i had the vehicle recently in the shop for 2 other recalls and mentioned this along with the notice i received about this problem from nissan. the service manager said they would look into it but was concerned because i had 83,400 miles on the truck and warranty issues only would fix this up to 80,000 miles. i haven't ever had a exhaust crack on any vehicle that i have owned since 1972 and had some of these vehicle to upward of 250,000 miles. why won't nissan do something about this to fix this issue because it looks like it is all of them that crack. seems to me for safety issues and exhaust fumes that should be routed to the rear of the vehicle are now being pushed into the engine compartment and not even getting to the catalytic converter. i'm very disappointed in nissan for the absence of help in this issue and a serious one at that. this should be a recall and of all the watchdog areas of our life where is the epa on this one.

My exhaust manifold/ cat has failed. there is a crack in my exhaust manifold and over warrantee 15k. i have notice mpg loss and gasses entering my cabin when i'm at a stop light and my window is down. i'm a father of 3 and worried for my children safety. passenger is cracked and worried that the drivers is going to go soon. the dealership will not cover under warrantee. this will cost me 600 per side + 600 for labor which brings the total to 1800+tax. i'm apart of a nissan club/forum and this is a problem numerous people are having, 50+ in california. some people have to go aftermarket or even pass it illegally through black market channels. nissan is well aware of this problem and released a revised version which still have the same problem. nissan is robbing their customers and need to be brought to justice. they should be responsible under the emissions law and for putting out a known faulty part. i don't know what to do i have many friends in other states that are on their 2nd set or going on their 3rd set. this should be addressed for the safety of people and the earth jon have to

The rear exhaust flange broke causing the exhaust pipe to aim into the underside of the truck bed. this has cause melting plastic, rear taillight failure and paint to delaminate from the rear fender.

2005 nissan titan le had an exhaust tailpipe separation at a weld. the hanger than holds the tailpipe is designed wrong. the weight of the pipe causes the exhaust gases up into the passenger side rear fender melting wires, plastic, and potentially anything in the cargo box area (bed liner melted). the tailpipe was not damaged in any way prior to the incident. i have found many internet forums with the same problem occuring to other titan owners. i am confident if i would not have noticed the problem earlier and had combustibles in the cargo area, the vehicle would have caught fire. my right turn signal did not work and that is what made me look for the problem.

My 2005 nissan titan has two cracked exhaust manifolds. they are cracked into two pieces and are allowing carbon monixide to escape from the exhaust system adjacent to the cab of the truck. this is a potentially lethal failure due to co poisioning. nissan has been contacted and will not assist with repairs, even though there have been hundreds of similar reported cases. my vehicle is out of the warranty period and i understand nissan's reluctance, financially, to repair the failure. however, due to the potentially dangerous nature of the designed flaw that caused the failure i believe that a recall is justified. i am very willing to take the steps required to initiate a recall, but i am not sure how to proceed.

..rear axle seal leaking for a second time in about (30,000 miles first time, now 67,000 miles and leaking again) ..exhaust manifold cracked (has catalytic converter attached) ..4 trips to dealer to repair leak on front differential (30,000 miles) .. half shaft came out while driving. (34,000 miles) truck has 67,000 miles. nissan does not seem to care since it is out side of the warranty despite the well known issues??? *tr

Dvr rear axle seal leak (which saturated brake pads leading to possible severe problem, but was caught before any situation) at 28,xxx miles, rear axle seal leak pass. side (warranty optioned to replace whole rear end axle assembly at 36,200 miles, rear axle seal leak both sides including 3rd member seal at 60,xxx miles, rear end ring and pinion grenaded at 61,xxx miles (extended warranty still unsure on coverage due to lack of rear end maintenance records, i. e. - lube change) (required maintenance is every 30,000 miles, i have not put 30,000 miles on the vehicle before a major issue.)*cn

Prior to leaving for a trip i stoped by the dealership that i bought the truck from informed me that the exhaust was broken due to rust i was also told that there was no issue with driving it to nc from ct on the way back from nc the trailer lights failed and i started receiving slip abs brake and 4wd lights on my dash. i return the truck to the dealership and was told that the exhaust had melted the wiring harness where it had broke/rusted. i spoke to another dealership and was told this was a common issue where the wiring harness would melt when the exhaust brakes/rusts... i was also told that they had seen some where the whole tail lamp had melted. *tr
