My rear leaf spring shackle snapped punching a hole though the truck bed opening it up like a tuna can while i was on the highway and nearly lost control in a construction zone where there were quite a few people working on the side of the road. did some investigating and it seems like a pretty common problem for the 04-07 titans and am wondering why i (or the thousands of others who've had the same problem) were not informed about this from the fine folks at nissan before people get killed. i would have paid to replace them myself had i just been told.....its not about the money...safety is number one in my book especially when i'm hauling around my 18 month old in something that the factory knows has a life threatening defect and doesn't tell anyone!!!!!!!! sincerely pissed!!

This vehicle has more common failures than any i have seen. both of the rear leaf spring shackles rotted out. the rear axle seals are now leaking. in 6 months i have replaced 2 oxygen sensors and now for the 2nd time i am replacing the evap canister control valve. nissan seems to ignore all of these issues and has redesigned many of these problem areas in newer models however does not own up to fixing the issues on vehicles that are on the road.

I have a 2005 nissan titan se 4x4 off road edition. while going around a conner i heard a loud poping noise. i stopped the truck and looked under it. i noticed fluid coming from the right rear of the vehicle. i took it to nissan and they inspected it. they told me it was the right rear wheel bearing. i asked them to fix it. they put in a new part but that did not fix the problem. they did not charge me for that work. i then talked to the shop foreman of nissan and he told me that it was a dowl pin coming loose between the spider gears without pulling the cover off or anything. he said that the rear ends fail a dime a dozen with models 2004-2007. i asked how much it would be to fix it and i was told 3200 dollars. if nissan has know about this problem for some time i think that nissan needs to stand behind their product and actually issue a recall before someone gets hurt. i have the truck in storage right now due to the military, but i will eventually have to come out of pocket and get it repaired.

The front and rear wheel seals and spacers are faulty and causing fluid to leak out onto the brakes and brake pads. which could cause fire, braking problems and if unfixed could cause the front/rear end to go out on the truck.
05/29/2009
Rear axle seals, locks, & gaskets need to be replaced and the dealer is charging approx. $800 to fix the problem. the oil is leaking onto the wheels from the axle problem. the switch for the driver controlled windows is out and the air pressure light comes on almost 80% of the time. the driver seat belt appears to jam and won't come undone or latch on most of the time.

We purchased a truck from nissan in october of 2004. it has been in the shop many times and in december of 2004, it was there over 30 days. the transmission and the rear end have both gone out, windows don't roll up and down correctly, rattling in the cab where the visor and garage door openers are held. the brake, vdc, tow, and abs switch stay on all the time. the brakes are going out and the whole truck shimmies. now in addition to the transmission being replaced once, it's slipping again. nissan stated they would pay for the rental on the 30 days, but that was a lie. they socked me with an $283.00 bill. $181.00 was to fill up the tank with gas!!!!!!! there are also missing valves on the tires they themsleves took off and didn't replace and the alarm goes off by itself when no one is around. give me a break...nissan states this does not qualify for the lemon law. i need help in this situation. *ak

Left & right rear seals leaking on my king cab 05 nissan titan. i had the 60,000 mile service done in early july 2009, at the dealership. the approximate mileage on my truck at that time was around 66,000 miles. upon completing the job, the next day, most of the transmission fluid leaked out of my truck. the dealership came to my house and repaired the leak and topped off the transmission fluid. they said that it was a failed hose clamp. they took my truck back to the dealership to look it over to confirm that everything else was ok. they also check on a fan recall that was pending. they told me that no repairs were necessary. a couple of weeks ago i noticed that transmission fluid appeared to be leaking again from the front end. i took my truck in earlier this week and the dealership replaced a leaking transmission hose at no charge. they informed me at this time that my left and right rear seals were leaking very bad. they also informed me that i have a power steering leak. i don't understand why these issues were not addressed in july when the 60,000 mile service was done unless it just recently started. they told me how much it will cost to do the repairs and advised that i take care of it asap! *tr

I am a professional engineer seeking your office's assistance on resolving an issue related to the unexpected collapse of the rear suspension system on my vehicle, and also to bring to your attention the dangerous situation that thousands of owners and operators of these vehicles on the roads nationwide are exposed. i am the owner of a 2005 nissan titan pick-up truck purchased new in january 2005. the vehicle has 78,000 miles, is well maintained, and mainly used to commute to work. it is not driven off-road, nor it is used to carry heavy loads. a shackle supporting the left rear suspension leaf spring assembly failed. the assembly collapsed, perforating the truck bed as shown on the enclosed photos. [?fortunately?, it occurred in my driveway and not while driving on a public road; otherwise the consequences could have been catastrophic due to the loss of vehicle control]. i immediately notified the nissan dealer (1-860-448-0050). the technician indicated that the vehicle was out-of-warranty; therefore, he had to contact nissan corporation for instructions. please note that the vehicle is still under warranty for rust (60 months-unlimited miles). furthermore, such a major structural failure is beyond any warranty coverage limitations because it is not supposed to occur. the vehicle has failed, within four years, to provide one of its major intended and implied uses, which is to provide transportation to its operator and passengers in a safe manner and furthermore, not pose a risk when operated on the roads by exposing other drivers and property to injury and damage. other nissan titan owners had the same problem. nissan was aware of the problem since it beefed-up the shackles on their 2008 models, but older models still have the problem. how can i email photos of the failure. your intervention is requested. *tr

I was driving on highway heard a bong two days later i found a dent upward in bed of truck and found a broken shackle. after replacing part and looking how it was made you could see that it a poor design. roll metal with 2 small welds that prevent metal from unrolling. all weight of back of truck and any jarring cause it to sap. if both side fail and i had to make any sudden move you could loose the hole back suspension i have digital pictures of fail part . odi #10259337 i used wrong state. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 nissan titan. whenever the vehicle was driven over a pothole, the contact heard loud noises coming from the rear of the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to a dealer, but they could not duplicate the failure. approximately one week ago, while driving at an unknown speed, the contact heard a much louder noise and the vehicle drove as if it were trying to get away. the following morning, she discovered that the leaf spring punctured through the truck bed. the contact has photos available. the current mileage was 73,000 and failure mileage was 58,000. updated 12/11/08. *lj updated 12/11/08. *jb
