Defect SummaryCertain hopkins aftermarket trailer brake control connection harnesses sold for use on certain models of nissan vehicles which are listed above. the internal part numbers within hopkins are: 1010476025, 1040376025, 1110476025, 1170376025, 1290376025, 1010476035, 1040376035, 1110476035, 1170376035, and 1290376035. a wire may have been placed in an incorrect position in the electrical connector housing. this results in an incorrect routing of wires between the trailer brake controller and the towing vehicle wiring system.
Consequence SummaryThis harness would result in power from the trailer brake controller going to the towing vehicle dash light circuit rather than the trailer brakes. this result would be the lack of trailer braking when the towing vehicle brakes were applied. it would also result in the towing vehicles dash lights being activated when the vehicle brakes were applied. the failure of the application of the trailer brake could result in reduced ability to stop and contribute to a possible crash.
Corrective SummaryHopkins will notify owners and replace the original harness with a revised harness free of charge. the recall began august 17, 2007. owners can contact hopkins at 800-835-0129.
NotesThis recall only pertains to aftermarket harnesses and has no relation to any original equipment installed on vehicles manufactured by nissan.customers may contact the national highway traffic safety administration's vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (tty: 1-800-424-9153); or go to http://www.safercar.gov.

About a month ago i notice a weird noise coming from underneath my truck whenever i would slow down and sometimes speed up. as the week went by i notice the noise getting lounder. it started out with a clicking sound then it intensified with a clucking sound. after having a local shop look at my truck they found fluids by the right break, which indicated that a seal had gone bad and they also told me that the clucking and clicking noises are from the gears in the differential. peices of the gears had broken off. they estimated a job like this would run about $3500!!! i do not have the kind of money! i have read all the treads posted by people who have this same problem and have contact nissan's consumer affairs department and got nowhere! please advise me how i can have nissan pay for this!!!

2006 nissan titan. consumer states several problems with vehicle and recall issues *tgw the consumer stated the brake booster was defective and has not worked properly, since the vehicle was purchased. it would take extreme force to stop the vehicle. the fuel level sending unit, air conditioning condenser fan motor, engine control module relay, instrument panel fuel gauge all malfunctioned. also, the lower control links that attached to the chassis mounting failed.

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 nissan titan. five minutes after the contact started the vehicle, he noticed smoke underneath the hood. he shut off the vehicle and disconnected the battery. the vehicle was driven to the dealer and they discovered that the coolant wires, fuse box wires, harness wires, and coolant unit/combo switch were melted and fused together. the dealer will replace the cooling fan and the wiring harness. the current and failure mileages were 64,000. updated 062909 *bf the dealer stated the ac condenser fan motor housing rusted causing the motor to seize and overheat, leading to the wires burning out and shortening. the consumer received a recall notice in the mail for the problem he had already experienced. nissan informed the consumer the recall was only for the condenser fan portion of the repair. updated 07/02/09.*jb

06 titan le crew cab - stereo just stops - no audio, no power, nothing. this has occurred twice in less than 3 months with complete head unit replacement by the dealership. dealer states they can not remove the cds from the changer and must wait for factory to do so - i have not had any cds returned to date. pending other options - persue small claims suit for reimbursement of cds, one more incident of same item will meet il lemon laws under for impact to material value of the vehicle... i like the truck and it functions well except for this more simplistic item and the difficulty in getting repair from a dealer that i did not purchase the vehicle and the number of failures of the same item. nissan usa has not been materially helpful, only to document but no action. 2nd tires 285/70/r17 - reported to michelin (for bf goodrich rugged trail - oem) tires - have less than 6/32s tread remaining with only 6k miles on tires - michelin will not replace or compensate until 2/32s, though they acknowledge a problem given original tread was 13/32s so more than half tread life is gone in 6k miles. *jb
