| Defect Summary | 2000 nissan xterra vehicles manufactured between october 15, 1999, and february 29, 2000. the alloy wheels used on these vehicles may not have been properly manufactured and could develop cracks in the wheel spokes. | |||||||||||||||
| Consequence Summary | If a sufficient number of spoke cracks develop, the wheel could fail and separate from the mounting hub, possibly resulting in a vehicle crash without prior warning. | |||||||||||||||
| Corrective Summary | Nissan will notify its customers and replace the four alloy wheels with xterra se model bright alloy wheels free of charge. the spare tire steel wheel is not affected. owner notification began on september 15, 2003. owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact nissan at 1-800-647-7261. information can also be obtained through nissan's web site at www.nissanusa.com. | |||||||||||||||

| Tl*the contact owns a 2000 nissan xterra. the contact stated that when the vehicle was purchased, the rims were cracked. the contact stated there were no related recalls. the dealer will not repair the vehicle since the rims were not a safety issue. the information provided from the recall 03v307000 regarding the wheels on the vehicle was available to the dealer; however, they refused to repair them. the failure mileage was 209000. | |||

| While driving 32 mph the front passenger side wheel separated from the vehicle without warning. as a result the consumer loss control of the vehicle. the consumer was able to regain control and pulled over. please provide additional information. *jb | |||

| I did not recieve recall info on alloy wheel and fuel sending unit from nissan for my 2000 xterra. in addition i had my nissian serviced several times at a dealer and was not made aware of the recall. only when i did research did i find out there was a recall. | |||
