After my vehicle was making shuddering noises between 40 and 50 mph i decided to bring it to the nearest dealership to be checked. i was told the radiator leaked coolant into the transmission. i was also told this has been an issue for nissan so they would cover part of the repair and i would be responsible for $2500 of the repair since i was 1300 miles over the limit. i was notifies the radiator and transmission needed to be replaced. i told the service representative i did not have the money at my disposal and asked if there was anything i could do. i was told when i get the money to call and they will repair it, but to also hurry because the transmission could lock up anytime and cause a major accident. i was shocked they would even let me leave the dealership. i immediately called nissan customer affairs and explained my situation. they told me i was they would not be able to assist me in any way and suggested the same as the dealership, to quickly get it repaired because i can cause a major accident. i was appalled they would allow their customers be in danger and endanger other drivers on the roads especially when nissan admits to this being a quality issue that a majority of their consumers are having. *tr

I've noticed that nissan has been under investigation for receiving a number of complaints from consumers in regards to sudden, catastrophic transmission failures in 2005-2010 nissan pathfinder, frontier and xterra's. well i am writing to tell you that my 2007 nissan xterra has fallen victim to this. it has been diagnosed with the problem of the transmission fluid cooler located in the radiator assembly that allowed coolant to mix with and contaminate the automatic transmission fluid, resulting in damaged internal transmission components and a damaged internal transmission computer. i had no warning signs leading up to or just prior to the failures. what is nissan going to do about this???? recall ?? *tr

Last month the car seemed to start slipping gears when i got up to around 40 miles per hour. it was sporadic and once i let me foot off the gas for a second it seemed to clear and be ok. i started to see a slow leak of what i thought was oil in the garage where i parked the yesterday. when i mentioned the leak to a buddy and also told him that my heater was not working, he said we should check the coolant in the radiator. when we opened the radiator cap, there was a slimy brownish sludge all over the bottom of the cap. that afternoon, i brought the car to the mechanic across the street and he said that i had a radiator failure of some that has caused radiator fluid to get into the transmission. this is where the brown sludge has come from. he said the car needed a new radiator and the transmission had to be flushed, dropped, and serviced and it would not guarantee that the transmission needed to be replaced sometime soon after. the entire thing he quoted me as costing $3k. i called my nissan dealer where i had purchased the car from new in april 2007 and the gentleman in the service department seemed quite aware of the issue and informed me that the radiator replacement is under and extended warranty from nissan, but i would still be out of pocket for at least a $2500 co-pay for the replacement of the transmission. *tr

My 2007 xterra with 62k miles began making a whining noise when accelerating . not sure what it was i took it to the nissan dealer where i get all my major services done .the technician took a look at the problem and within min notify me it is the timing belt chain and guides , known issue for my nissan xterra . when i ask him if he is sure he confirm he does few of this every month and that the problem is so known that nissan has a service bulletin, with the title describing the issue and the symptom ! he has confirm the issue is with the plastic guide that is part of the design . looking online i find many nissan owners are experiencing the same problem . i am extremely disappointed with the nissan brand and not sure what to do , if i replace the part , will it happen again as it is a design issue ? when buying the car, one of the selling point was that the car does not have a timing belt anymore but a chain! that will most likely engine itself . calling nissan customer service did not help and i am left with a $2000 repair due to a known issue and bad design. *tr

I took my nissan to the dealership for inspection for radiator/transmission defect. the dealership indicated no way of knowing if my vehicle is one of the ones where this part will fail. is this true? *tr

Strong vibration and noise from the transmission and the transmission slips for time periods up to 10 seconds. happens repeatedly. upon later examination by the dealership, they say that radiator leaks coolant into the transmission causing it to be destroyed and requiring replacement. *tr

My 2007 nissan xterra, just passing the 50k, and now the service engine soon light on with code p0463. seems that if i keep the fuel tank filled up above 1/4, then this problem will go away, but from time to time there's a malfunction of the fuel sensor.
12/01/2011145
My check engine son light came on, i went to autozone and i was told the error code stated fuel sending unit/sensor. i was told that nissan recommends you keep a half a tank of gas in the tank. my xterra guage is very unpredictable 90% of the time even when i fill the tank up the guage doesn't register, and it's stuck on e with the gas light on constantly, which has caused me a single mother of 3 to run out of gas twice. i have done some research and found that there was a voluntary recall, but i've been told that there wasn't. i also live in a city where there is emissions testing which i can't pass because of the check engine light, i cannot receive my vehicle tag, which means i can't work or drive. i would like this sensor replaced at no charge to me because as reading online there has been 53,000 people with the same issue. i would like to know what are my options and the next step i can take to get this resolved.

My car 2007 nissan xterra started to make a revving noise under the hood on sunday 10/2/2011. the next day i was on the highway on my way home from work when the check engine light came on. i cautiously drove the min speed limit to the mid-city nissan dealership which was less than 2 miles away at this point. the next day, mid-city nissan informed me that i needed the timing chain repaired asap. this sight isn't the better business bureau so i'll save you the extraneous lies nissan tried to sell me so they didn't have to fix my car which was under 46000 miles and still under extended nissan factory warranty. not wanting to spend $2000 on a car that i am still paying for and is still considerably new at 46000 miles. so i called my trusted neighborhood mechanic to look at it. he concluded that the guards on the secondary belt are worn away and it need to be replaced. looking into timing chains on nissan trucks becomes quite a fruitful search when browsing the internet. right now there is a service bulletin for defective engines in trucks like mine. this is the first truck i've owned and i believed that the high pitched whining sound coming out of the engine was normal for such a big, powerful car. i'm afraid that the engine has sounded like this for the last few thousand miles. i feel if it's such a widespread problem among nissan truck owners, it could one day result in someones engine stalling on the highway. thank goodness it wasn't me. nissan needs to address this problem and there should be a recall on these engine parts.

No failure occurred, though while at the dealership for replacement of a faulty factory part, i was informed of another failing factory part (the timing chain guides) that was a well known and documented problem that nissan failed to address for its consumers. the cost of the repair was estimated at $1533.64.

Noticed that the vehicle was shifting hard especially in overdrive. soon after the vehicle overheated on 4/4/11. added coolant to get to garage. upon inspection found that there was coolant in the transmission. had it towed to the dealer and they confirmed that there was a crack in the transmission cooler and it put coolant into the transmission. the radiator and transmission needed to be replaced at a cost of $7400. i called the dealer i purchased the vehicle from and they told me there was nothing they could do for me it was a nissan issue. called nissan customer support filed a complaint. after reviewing my complaint they told me there was nothing they could do for me. searched on line and found that there are many nissan's from 2005 -2007 with this failure. nissan is ignoring the issue. contacted the attorney genneral's office and they are investigating. the vehicle is currently at a nissan dealership and has been since 4/5/11. we feel that the vehicle is unsafe to drive.

I have a 2007 nissan xterra brought used @ carmax of white marsh md. i have had the car for 3yrs now and have had its regular check and routine oil change. in november the car started with this strange and load noise. i had new tierd replaced and took it back to the place to see if that was the problem, after persistance and takeing the car back because it would skip and pull. the autoshop did a diagnostice testing. it was discovered that the radioador fluid was leaking into the transmission cousing the car to loose some power along with the header not working eaither. i called nissan and told them the problem. well they sent me a letter telling me about an internal memo they had regarding this same issue. i was advised to take it to a nissan dealer to see if in fact that was the case. i did and it was i spoke to someone in their consumer affairs department who esplained that because my car was over the extended warrenty amount that hey had increased it to i would have to pay a deductable out of pocket.... here is my major problem the warrenty was extended to 80,000 miles my car has 93,000 mile. they will replace the radiator if i pay a deductable od $1000.00.. why should i pay for a manufactor error.? please someone help me i can not afford to drive this car or pay such high deductable. nissan needs to pay for the entire repair.... i have not gotten it fixed because they want me to pay $1000.00. which i do not have.

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 nissan xterra. the contact stated that the clutch failed. the vehicle was taken to a repair shop where the clutch was replaced. eighteen miles later, the clutch failed again; the vehicle was taken back to the same repair shop where the clutch was replaced again. the contact also noted that the heater and air conditioner fuses also failed. when he consulted the authorized dealer, he was informed that the fan blower was defective and needed to be replaced; the vehicle was repaired at that time. the fuse blew again and the dealer replaced the blower motor. the dealer also suspected that an electrical harness might be the cause of failure but the parts for that repair would not be available the end of june 2010. the contact called the manufacturer and was informed that the vehicle was no longer under warranty and he would be responsible for the repair expenses. the failure mileage was approximately 60,000. the current mileage was approximately 67,000.
