My 2007 nissan xterra, just passing the 50k, and now the service engine soon light on with code p0463. seems that if i keep the fuel tank filled up above 1/4, then this problem will go away, but from time to time there's a malfunction of the fuel sensor.

My check engine son light came on, i went to autozone and i was told the error code stated fuel sending unit/sensor. i was told that nissan recommends you keep a half a tank of gas in the tank. my xterra guage is very unpredictable 90% of the time even when i fill the tank up the guage doesn't register, and it's stuck on e with the gas light on constantly, which has caused me a single mother of 3 to run out of gas twice. i have done some research and found that there was a voluntary recall, but i've been told that there wasn't. i also live in a city where there is emissions testing which i can't pass because of the check engine light, i cannot receive my vehicle tag, which means i can't work or drive. i would like this sensor replaced at no charge to me because as reading online there has been 53,000 people with the same issue. i would like to know what are my options and the next step i can take to get this resolved.
01/03/201250000
Error code p0463, fuel sensor error. when the gas tank is full, the gauge registers empty (less then e actually) until some of the fuel is used and then the gauge registers accurately (i think).

After re-fueling, the gas indicator drops below empty, and the check engine light turns on. after driving it ~100 miles, the fuel guage will then go to approximately the real fuel level (around 3/4 of a tank). after driving about another 100 miles the check engine light turns off. every time i re-fuel, this problem occurs again. it makes it extremely difficult to tell how much gas i have left. i will never buy a nissan again.

Vehicle fuel level gauge does not work. pegs high then goes low. causes check engine light to come on. car cannot pass emissions test due to faulty sensor. 2006 and 2008 nissan xterra have had a recall on this component. i do not understand why not the 2007 which has the exact same component.

Service engine soon ligh comes. tank is full and service light comes on and later showed light that tank empty. i went to auto part and they hook up machine to find out why and it showed that sensor for fuel is failing.before i was able to disconect battery and light will go off but now light is permanent. the truck has 95,000 miles and i am very up set because it should be a recall

I have a nissan xterra 2007. i decided to stop at a gas station to fill it up on a 1/2 tank of gas. spent $40-$45 to fill it up. drove about a 1/2 mile down the road and noticed that the fuel gage didn't change in position. so i pull the vehicle over and shut it down and let it sit for a few minutes before i decided to start it back up. when i did, there was no change in the needle's position and the ses light popped up. whenever i fill the tank up or put any gas in the vehicle the needle goes from not moving, to empty, to where it should be after driving for a few miles and the ses light remains to be on. i went to a local garage and got read by a scan gauge and it gave me p0463 code which meant there is a fuel level malfunction. i called up a few garages including the dealer and they told me that the repair cost with parts and labor would be $500-$600. i did some researching if there has been any recalls and discovered that this has been a problem with older xterra models that continues to be a problem with the newer ones. this should not be happening with vehicle that i have had for about 4 years with only 40k+ miles on it.

After filling tank with gas, the gas gauge sits on empty and does not register a full tank until a day or two later. also, the yellow empty tank light comes on for the same duration of time. in addition, the service engine soon dashboard light comes on and does not go off until a day or two after the gauge has registered the supposed correct level of the tank.

I have a 2007 nissan xterra. the problem i have is with the fuel guage sensor. it started about a year ago and the check engine light comes on and off randomly. not to mention that when i fill up my vehicle the fuel guage will not sense that its full. it will take a long time or even bottom out showing the light that its empty. i feel that this is very unsual and hard to tell what is wrong with the vehicle. i have been told that it has happen to many other nissan vehicles.

I have a 2007 nissan xterra stopped in to gas station on a 1/4 tank to fill-up on 5/25/2011 put in $85.00 worth. while driving i noticed my gas gauge was still reading 1/4 of a tank and then my indicator light came on stating service engine soon after driving a few milles the gas gauge slowly went back up to full however the service indicator light still stay on. i went to a service station and was told that the problem was the fuel sending unit sensor and to check with the nissan dealer to see if this promlem would be covered under the warrenty. on 5/26/2011 called nissan dealer service dept was told this was not covered due to the fact that my car had over 30k. did some reseach online and found out that many of the 2005-07 nissan's are having the same problem. nissan had a recall for their 2000-2004 car's which had the same problem - i beleive this is a major problem and should be handled in the same manner the earlier models were handled by recall.

I have a 2007 nissan xterra. recently i filled up my gas tank and the service enginesoon light came on and the fuel gauge did not register full. after some time driveing it slowly raised to full and a while after the service engine soon light went out. i just filled up again. the level was just below a 1/4 of a tank and now with a full tank it reads below empty, the service engine soon light is on, the empty fuel tank light is on and the gauge is not raising as it did the previous time. after dooin some reaserch on line i realized i am not the only one with this problem and that it is obviously my fuel sending unit. two weeks prior to this i had a 60000 mile service performed at nissan where they found no problems with my vehicle.

Got check engine light error code p0463 which is failed fuel sensorprevious generation of nissan xterras were recalled for this issue. repair is ~$600. vehicle has 67,000 miles. level sensor now reads unreliably which is a hazard in the winter. supposedly, the current generation of xterras have the same issue but there is no recall. nissan needs to stand behind their vehicles and take care of this issue with a real fix for this issue.

My 2007 nissan xterra has an intermittent problem with the fuel sending unit not registering the correct fuel levels as well as the empty light staying on after a fill up of the tank. after filling up the tank the gas gauge sticks on empty and then after an undetermined amount of time it starts to fluctuate to different points in the full range of the gauge. this has happened several times in the last two years. the consequences could have included running out of gas due to incorrect fuel level reporting by the fuel gauge and stalling in traffic. there is a safety recall for the same model vehicle in prior and later years for the same issue, but nissan refuses to address and correct the entire safety issue. at this point in time the vehicle in question has not been repaired to correct the problem.

My nissan 2007 xterra has been experiencing problems with the fuel gauge. i first noticed in late august of 2010 my service e gine soon light (ses) come on and it was not until a few weeks later i took in my car and was told my fuel gauge was not working properly. i have been now doing research and have just learned that many others are experiencing the same problem as i am. my gauge will mark empty after i have filled up my tank and show a full tank at about 50 miles after i have filled up the tank. my gauge will also go on e when it is at 1/4 of a tank and even at a half tank never knowing exactly how much gas is in the tank. i also read online that the 2007 xterras have a recall on the fuel system and i believe they should be replaced to anyone who is experiencing this problem free of charge. this is a serious matter and could end in accidents and possible deaths. lets see if this happens and we all get it replaced as i also found this information online from a website. dealers will replace the fuel level sending unit inside the fuel tank with a new one that has a modified float arm. this service will be performed free of charge. the safety recall is expected to begin on or before march 22, 2010.

Tl- the contact owns a 2007 nissan xterra. while driving approximately 50 mph the vehicle ran out of fuel. the fuel gauge showed the vehicles fuel tank was halfway full. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for repair or diagnostic. the manufacturer was contacted and stated the vehicle was not covered by the warranty and the contact would have to pay for the costs. the contact later received an extended warranty notification for up to 72,000 miles but the vehicle was not covered because the vehicle was over the mileage at the time of the notification. the approximate failure mileage was 70,000. ds

I own a 2007 nissan exterra it has 76,000 miles on it. the fuel level sending unit does not work properly. when i have 1/4, 1/2 tank of gas, sometimes 3/4 tank of gas the gauge drops to empty and the service engine lite comes on. this problem started at around 56,000 mi. i have read on line that his is an ongoing problem with the exterra dating back to 2003. should this not have been a recall by nissan? fixed 2006 and 2008. with the amount of complaints, i think nissan should step up to the plate and correct the expensive deficiency. i don't understand how they can fix a later model.

The check engine light on my xterra came on while driving. borrowing an autopart store's computer, i found out my engine was showing error code p0463. after a little research i discovered that it meant my fuel level sensor was malfunctioning and that, while no real threat to my safety was posed other than possibly running out of gas by surprise, it seems this is a very common problem with xterras and pathfinders.

My 2007 nissan xterra (47000miles) just stopped (no power when gas pedal is depressed) while on the freeway during a busy time... i had to try to get to the shoulder and was very dangerous. luckily the cars around me were payign attention and a huge accident was avoided. after researching this on the net, apparently this is common with this vehicle and previous models(which were issued recalls). the fuel sending unit apparently has an issue where it stops sending fuel through to the engine, without any warning or notice....this is life threatening and unacceptable.. this needs to be taken care of before people die at the hands of a faulty 20 dollar part. please please forward this or add it to the many other complaints i hope are listed... and thank you.. so far i have accumated towing bills, rental car bills, and now have to wait for the weekday until nissan can talk to someone in the tech dept.. the dealerships need to be made aware of this issue and the owners need to be contacted immediatley...

I had 1/4 of a tank of gas and went to fill up. after filling up my gas tank, i turned on the car, at which point the needle did not register the full tank. after driving a couple miles, the check engine light came on. i went directly to the dealer and was told that it was a fuel sending unit/sensor and that it was no longer covered after 30k miles. after returning home and doing research, i went online to x.nissanhelp.com after performing a search, i came across many others who have experienced the same problem. apparently it has something to do with the fuel sending unit. a similar problem was found on the 2000-2004 xterra models and a recall was performed when the vehicle would stop after not getting any fuel, posing a great danger. it seems that somthing in the unit is faulty and will corrode over time. there is a general consensus that everyone who is having the problem is experiencing the same thing after having the vehicle for over 2 yrs and with around 39k-49k. if this problem existed in previous models, and it was recalled, the 2005-2007 xterras, frontiers, and pathfinders should get this fixed at no charge to the customer!! cost of repair is $490.

I have a 2007 nissan xterra with 40,000 miles on it. the vehicle is 3 years old and my fuel level sending unit went bad. nissan has had a recall on the 2001 to 2003 xterra for the fuel level sending unit and recently another recall for the same problem; fuel level sending unit for 2006 xterra. i see that this is an on-going problem and nissan needs to include the 2007 and possibly even the 2008 and 2009. this is unacceptable for a 3 year old vehicle part to go bad. i was stranded for about 2 hours until my husband could reach me and this is a safety issue with running out of fuel when your guage is wrong. the service engine soon light came on after we ran out of gas. i took the vehicle in to the dealership and it was diagnosed as the fuel level sending unit was bad due to internal short.

2007 nissan xterra - fuel level sending unit failure - causing fuel gauge to fail with possibilty of running out of gas in traffic situation - there is a recall 10v-075 however it is for xterras 2006 and 2008 excluding 2007's for whatever reason - therefore not recalled by nissan. would love to know why... 2007 having the exact same problems would be excluded from this recall.

My 2007 nissan xterra has a fuel gauge that does not go to full after the tank is filled. the gauge drops to empty and the fuel indicator light goes on indicating low fuel. in addition, the service engine soon message indicator light goes on. this could cause the vehicle to run out of gas and stall in traffic, increasing the risk of crash. there currently is a recall on the 2006 and 2008 models (nhtsa #10v075000) related to a faulty fuel sender float arm causing the instrument panel to mislead. this is very common as there are many complaints of the same issue

The 2007 nissan xterra that was purchased for my sons has had a gas gauge that never recorded properly. this has been an ongoing problem that my sons have noticed from the beginning. first they wondered about it...and then said something to us. we notified the dealership, notified them again, and again, and again (i think you get the story) and finally after a couple of years, one sales serviceman said yes others have the same problem. the replaced the gauge and then requested that i come back when the fuel tank was really empty to replace something in the tank. i did both these things. we haven't noticed a problem since but all boys are in college without the car. our car also isn't one of the cars being recalled for anything...it's the same year but it is when the car was manufactered. i called nissan many, many times. unresponsive reps and had a few senior people call me after my numerous attempts, said they mailed me something about one item that was recalled. i said that i never received anything and they wouldn't resend it. i will never buy another nissan vechicle again. our other vehicles are a 2008 suburband and a 2008 300 mercedes. less problems with both. nissan people if you are reading this...your customer service stinks. btw the original dealership by my house went under and closed...family nissan..bought car at el monte because it had the car i wanted and at a better price.

I have a 2007 nissan xterra s 2wd, and my wife has noticed problems after she fills the fuel tank. the gauge will sometimes take longer than 24 hours to reach full. other times it will not reach full, and she has to gauge her filling the tank by the amount of mile she drives.

On or about may 20, 2010 i had 1/4 tank of gas and went to fill up. after fililing up the gas tank, i turned on the truck and the gas needle did not register as being full. the service engine light came on. i drove about 70 miles and it finally went up to the full mark, but the ses light did not go out. about a week later, when i filled the gas tank, i turned the engine on and the needle went to below the e mark and the reserve light came on as well as the ses light. i took the truck to the nissan dealer and was told that it was the fuel sending unit/sensor and that it would cost about $400 to repair. i was also informed at that time that there is a nation wide backorder on the part that is needed and they had no idea when the part would be in stock. i was also told that there has been a recall for this problem but it does not include my year of vehicle. i own a 2007 xterra with aprox. 38,000 miles.

I had to pay $362.49 for replacing a fuel level sensor in my 2007 nissan xterra. i understand that this is a common problem with these vehicles and that there is a recall on some of these vehicles. however, my model/vin is not covered. how can a recall be allowed to skip from one vin to another if the same part number is used?

Nissan xterra 2007 model 1. no specific event. at roughly 57,000 miles, check engine light came on and fuel gauge stopped working intermittantly (shows empty). is getting worse over time. 2. occurs every time vehicle is filled. consequece: do not know how much fuel is in vehicle. 3. not corrected at this time. same problem as recent recall on nissan titan, etc.

Filled my vehicle with fuel, and i noticed that the fuel level gage read empty, after i had put 17 gallons of fuel in it. this occured when the vehicle had about 55,000 miles on the odometer. the fuel gage has become increasingly unreliable, reading empty when full; this has caused me to run out of fuel on two occasions. as the check engine light remains on, my vehicle will not pass the safety inspection with the check engine light on. this is obviously a defective part; nissan will charge about $400 plus tax to fix this problem. this is a pervasive problem for nissans; i have a friend who also owns the same vehicle; his failed at the same odometer reading. automotive websites where consumers discuss nissan vehicles are filled with complaints about this problem.

2007 nissan xterra fuel gauge began by not responding to change in fuel tank after fill-up. then service engine soon light came on. after some driving it came back, but then after filling tank again it did the same thing. after third time it seems to be stuck there at extreme empty with light lit and ses light on. i understand this may be from the fuel sending unit, which i have found from research that many xterra owners aer experiencing the same problem. this should be a recall since the part is obviously faulty and could result in an accident when pulling into traffic and running out of gas.

On 4/16/2010 i filled up my 2007 nissan xterra 4x4 with gas. when i started the engine i noticed the fuel gauge only read 1/2 tank and that the service engine soon lamp was on. the light has remained on since and i have had to reset the trip mileage everytime i refuel so that i don't run outta gas. i called the dealer and they said most likely it is the fuel level sensor and that they would have to drop the tank and replace the sensor/pump assembly. fine i said, then they told me it would cost around $600, not fine. i decided to shop around because the price was too high. while doing some research online i found out that this is a very common problem and was the cause for recalls on the '02-'03 xterras. if this was a recall in earlier models why has it not been fixed in the later models. i am very upset and do not want to be ripped off for a malfunctioning part.
01/10/201051000
Fuel level sending unit stopped working shortly after warranty ran out. spoke to dealership about it and they have had multiple xterras and frontiers with the same issue. nissan issued a recall for some but not all of the affected vehicles, and unfortunately mine is one of ones that is not covered.
03/25/201049000
My gas gage sensor went out at 50,000 miles. the service engine light came on to let me know. the gas gage is completely in accurate which opens me up to the possibility of becoming stranded.

I have a 07 xterra, after 27,000 miles check engine light is on, gas tank meter is stuck in full or empty. i have to keep track by miles to not run out of gas. the part is in back order.

Service light appears due to fuel gauage. after fueling the vehicle to full, the fuel gauge will read empty and emplty fuel light will appear.
04/07/201070100
The fuel sending unit (fsu) on my 2007 nissan xterra is no longer sending fuel level to the dash gauge. nissan has admitted fault on 2006 model years only, and has issued a recall for that year, however the forum i am on for my xterra shows it to be a consistent problem for xterras manufactured from 2005-2008. this has left a number of people stranded with no fuel (including myself in the middle of the freeway) while still showing 1/4 tank of gas. at other times, the gauge will show completely empty after having just been filled completely. dealers are currently charging $400-$500 to repair an obviously defective unit that could result in someone being seriously injured.
04/05/201031022
Filled fuel tank on april 5, 2010. upon starting vehicle, fuel gauge showed full. five minutes later, fuel gauge slowly moves until it is showing completely empty, and low fuel warning light came on. three days later, the gauge is still showing empty, and the fuel warning light is on. a service enginge soon light is also illuminated. today, the gauge moved up and down several times, leaving me no sure way to know what the true level of fuel is. upon taking to a nissan dealership for repair, i was told that it is a common, known problem by nissan, but that i would be responsible for all repair costs. at this time, i have absolutely no way of knowing what level of fuel there is in my vehicle. i cannot believe that nissan would not want to fix a known problem that could result in a vehicle running out of fuel, and possibly causing a crash because the vehicle could not accelerate.
03/07/201066445
Tl*the contact owns a 2007 nissan xterra. the contact was driving approximately 55 mph and the fuel gauge indicator illuminated. the fuel gauge displayed an inaccurate reading of half full, and the fuel tank was consumed to the full capacity. additionally, the fuel gauge reading fluctuated from full to empty. the manufacturer was notified and stated that there were no related recalls. the failure and current mileages were 66,445.
03/31/200753000
Fuel gauge does not indicate properly. after filling the up the the fuel gauge indicates 1/4 tank.
11/26/200953000
I have a 2007 nissan exterra and the fuel gauge is malfunctioning. i took it to the nissan dealer last year and they said it was the fuel sending unit which would cost 450.00 to replace.this is a big problem becouse i never know how much gas i have in my fuel tank i need to fuel constanly.
03/20/2010400001
I have a 2007 nissan xterra, and my son has a 2005 nissan xterra. he has since replaced his fuel tank indicator. mine has just started to indicate more gas then what is actually there. nissan has cherry picked some of the vehicles for recall, while ignoring the bulk of them in an effort minimize cost. this should not be allowed. i only have 39,000 mi. on the odometer. what if i went to pull out into traffic showing a half a tank of gas, but actually none. *tr
03/27/201050100
Fuel gauge sensor went out. vehcile inaccurately displays that the vehicle still has some fuel. vehicle has stalled due to this issue.
02/09/201044000
The fuel level sending unit on my 2007 nissan xterra needed to be replaced as it was showing the incorrect fuel amount on the gauge and activated the service engine soon indicator. i have read that this is a problem with many nissan xterras from 2005-2008. a recall is becoming active for 2006 models only. this recall should be for 2005-2008 models as i have read (online forums) many vehicles in this range have had to replace this part or are in need to. the replacement part that was installed into my xterra is still not entirely accurate. when the gauge shows 1/4 tank of fuel is left and i fill up, it will take 12-13 gallons only. the xterra fuel tank capacity is 21 gallons. the reason i am filing this complaint is tom ake your organization aware this recall should be reviewed and expanded to additional model years. it is somewhat disheartening nissan is well aware of this problem and not correcting it for the entire affected consumer base. maybe if one of their executives was stuck on the side on the road with their infant child and out of gas when the gauge said 1/4 left, they would understand the severity of the problem.

 Fuel gauge not reading accuratly
01/15/200924500
Faulty fuel sending unit in 2007 nissan xterra. leads to inaccurate fuel readings which has led to running out of gas while on the highway. nissan has issued a recall for 2006 xterra's fsu but no other model years.

 1. the fuel gauge on my 2007 nissan xterra seems to be malfunctioning. it does not read the correct amount of gas in the vehicle. currently the vehicle has 49,000 miles. 2. the failure occurs daily. before recognizing the problem, my vehicle ran out of gas while traveling down a busy road in dallas texas. the incident left my vehicle without power steering making it very dangerous to navigate the road. luckily my stalled vehicle was not rear ended (there was not a hazard lane to move onto). i 3. i have contacted nissan north america regarding the issue (case #6762797). they acknowledged a problem with the fuel sending unit. as i understand, a recall has been created to correct the problem. however, it only covers the 2006 and 2008. not the 2007. i now use the trip odometer to calculate the correct amount of fuel in the tank. the engine currently shows a cel (check engine light). it is directly related to the fuel sending unit: po463 fuel level sensor a ckt high input
12/01/200942000
My fuel sensor no longer works. once the sensor gets to half full it sudden drops to empty. there's currently a recall from nissan on this but does not cover the month my truck was manufactured. i drive in very remote areas and if my fuel gauge is misleading there's a great chance i'll run out of gas to be stranded in the middle of nowhere. i'm very worried about having my wife drive the vehicle and getting stranded without access to help.
02/11/2010607451
My fuel gauge went out on my nissan xterra 07. it just stopped reading once it hit 1/4 tank. i ran out of gas thinking i was still at 1/4 tank. i was stranded on a road with very little shoulder and luckily no accidents happened.*dt
02/25/2010312001
My fuel gauge started acting weird my service engine light came on so i took my xterra to my mechanic he told me it was a code for (fuel level sending unite) he cleared code. in a few days it was back on. my mechanic told my fuel sending unite needs to be replaced. it is a very costly repair. *dt
09/07/200968000
Fuel level sensor malfunction fails intermittently and often. check engine light stays on with code related for fuel level sensor. does not go off when the fuel level sensor is working. unable to obtain a vehicle inspection because of this. unable to tell how much fuel is in the car. risk of running out of fuel due to misinformation from fuel gauge. recall is being performed for older year models of this vehicle, but not this one.
02/13/201039000
Tl*the contact owns a 2007 nissan xterra. the contact dispensed fuel into the fuel tank to the full capacity level. the indicator displayed an empty fuel message. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnostic testing. the failure was contributed to the fuel sensor gauge. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the manufacturer advised that the service repair would be at the owners expense. the vehicle has not been repaired for the malfunction at this time. the failure mileage was 39,000. the current mileage was 39,638.
02/19/2010394001
Faulty fuel gauge. readings are erratic, and inaccurate. p0463 codes used for diagnostics. dealer has not included this vehicles as part of the recall but it is having the same problems as other vehicles included in the recall. *tr

I filled up my 2007 nissan xterra at the gas station. when i started driving down the road the fuel gauge showed it was on empty and the service engine soon light came on. after about 100 miles of driving the fuel gauge started to go up. the next time i filled up the car with gas the same problem happened. then while waiting at a bank drive-thru the gas gauge went to empty even though there was over half a tank of gas. nissan recently recalled vehicles for fuel gauge problems, but the nissan dealership told me today that my car is not included in the recall even though i am having the same problem. i have to track how many miles i am driving, so i do not run out of gas. *tr

2007 nissan xterra fuel sensor failure. 63000 miles. fuel gauge suddenly stopped working. ran out of gas on mountain road with gas gauge showing 1/2 tank remaining. this model is not included in nissan 2 march 2010 fuel sensor recall even though parts are identical. same problem occurred with my 2005 nissan xterra at 61000 miles. this vehicle is also not part of the recall. *tr

My 2007 nissan xterra ses light has been on for months. come to find out it is due to a faulty fuel level sensor. i have now run completely out of gas 3 times because when my gas gauge does register it is wrong. this started at around 55,000 miles and now i am at 62,000 miles. the ses light never turns off and the gas gauge has been reading incorrectly or not at all for about 5 months. *tr

I had 1/4 of a tank of gas and went to fill up. after filling up my gas tank, i turned on the car, at which point the needle did not register the full tank. after driving a couple miles, the check engine light came on. i went directly to the dealer and was told that it was a fuel sending unit/sensor and that it was no longer covered after 30k miles. after returning home and doing research, i went online to x.nissanhelp.com after performing a search, i came across many others who have experienced the same problem. apparently it has something to do with the fuel sending unit. a similar problem was found on the 2000-2004 xterra models and a recall was performed when the vehicle would stop after not getting any fuel, posing a great danger. it seems that something in the unit is faulty and will corrode over time. there is a general consensus that everyone who is having the problem is experiencing the same thing after having the vehicle for over 2 yrs and with around 39k-49k. if this problem existed in previous models, and it was recalled, the 2005-2007 xterras, frontiers, and pathfinders should get this fixed at no charge to the customer!! why wait for accidents and possible deaths, especially since the problem lies in an integral part of the vehicle. cost of repair ranges from $300-600. *tr

The fuel gauge on my 2007 nissan xterra 39k miles is erratic. after filling the gas tank, it shows empty and goes up very slowly. it takes over an hour to show close to full. since this problem started, an amber warning, service engine soon has been displayed constantly on the instrument panel. *tr

 1. do not appear to be any precursors to the failure. 2. my gas gauge does not work and check engine light is on. one minute it will show full, then next, completely empty. there is no rhyme or reason. based on internet research, it appears it is the fuel sending unit. car runs just fine but i never know how much gas is in the vehicle. i ran out in 120 degree weather with an infant in the car and had to walk to the gas station. what would have happened if it had happened on the freeway or over railroad tracks? 3. called the dealer and they advised it would be almost $700 to fix. vehicle is out of warranty, but this appears to be a similar problem to a recall in older models. if they are using the same part manufacturer, could it be the same part on my car? nissan needs to recall this item. *tr

Filled the tank 100% but it only showed 1/4 of a tank of gas and then goes to empty immediately after. the full tank did not register and the check engine light came on. i visited an auto shop and was told that it was a fuel sending unit/sensor and that it was no longer covered after 30k miles. i have seen the same problems posted online and there needs to be a recall if this is the case for many 2006-2008 nissan xterras. *tr

Purchased a brand new 2007 xterra in november 2006. in the summer of 2009 at about 33,000 miles i ran out of gas in the gas station parking lot when the gas gauge read that i still had a couple of miles to empty. service engine light came on and i could not get rid of it. a friend and local mechanic said that the fuel sensor was broken. the vehicle had exceeded the warranty mileage and the dealer would not fix it for free. this weekend on christmas eve i ran out of gas on the highway after writing down how many miles i had left until empty. according to the mileage i had written when i filled up, i still had about 70 miles to empty but with the cold weather, etc. the car must have used up more gas than usual. luckily, no one was hurt but this posed an extreme danger to us given that the car stopped in the middle of a busy highway. according to several other xterra owners, this is a common problem with xterras but nissan has issued no recall. *tr

I got the service engine soon so i took it to autozone to scan it and it gave the code p0463. i was looking around and found hundreds of people having the same problem as me. is there anyway this could be fixed by nissan with no cost to me since so many people are having the same problem. *tr

After filling fuel tank, the gauge was unresponsive (i.e. showing empty when full tank. a ses light appeared and showed p0463 (fuel level sensor circuit a). after taking it to nissan service, i was informed the repair would include replacing the fuel pump (fuel level sensor is actually sold separate- ~$150) in the amount of ~$600! it has been brought to my attention via internet search that this is a common problem which could result in stranding motorists and/or endangering them or other motorists from vehicle malfunction. *tr

Service engine light came on dash. pulled code and it is p0463. a service bulletin was released by nissan which indicates is a common enough of a failure to release a bulletin. is defective fuel sending unit. dealer will not replace because out of 3yr/30k. is common enough it should be done for free. *tr

Fuel sensor malfunctioned at 40,000 miles on 2007 nissan xterra causing fuel gauge to malfunction and check engine light to come on. happens each time i refuel since july. this problem is widespread with many nissan products. nissan is not backing it if you are past 36,000 miles. *tr

I had 1/4 of a tank of gas and drove to work with intentions on filling up when i got off of work. after getting off, i started my vehicle and the gas light was on and the gauge was below the e. i went to directly to fill up. after filling up my gas tank, i turned on the car, at which point the needle did not move and the gas light stayed on. after driving a couple miles, the check engine light came on. i have not gone to the dealer yet, but after reading everyone else's complaints on this same issue, i thought i would go ahead and start the complaint process. i don't have the 400 to 600 dollars right now to pay on an issue that nissan should have corrected years ago so i will have to pray that i do not run out of gas until i have the extra money to repair nissan's problem. *tr

The fuel sending unit on my 2007 nissan xterra has failed (the fuel gauge no longer works) this could cause loss of power on the highway if i were to run out of fuel - or it could leave me stranded in the middle of nowhere. replaced fuel sending unit at a local shop. old unit is unavailable. *tr

I have nissan xterra '07 with 41k miles on it. on our 4-th of july trip after fueling up the full tank i noticed that the fuel level needle did not go up after i started the engine. it took ~30 minutes then it went all the way up. but then while driving i noticed that the engine service soon light is on and the fuel level needle is all the way down (like no fuel at all.) then i read that the ess lights up when the vehicle thinks there is no fuel so it was obviously a fuel level sensor malfunction. later i investigated more and found out that a lo of people with xterras 05-07 have the same problem at approximately the same mileage. the p/n 25060-zs00a on the service bulletin # ntb07-69a. i think all these defective fuel level sensors should be recalled. *tr

At 40k miles, fuel gauge started intermittent failure, along with check engine light...internet boards for xterra owners indicated widespread similar problems. i contacted nearest nissan dealer in parkersburg, wv, was told would cost me $330 for parts & labor to replace the fuel level sensor in the fuel tank. first, i don't feel obligated to pay out of pocket for this repair, for a vehicle that isn't even 3 years old with 40k miles. secondly, most certainly don't want to replace it with same type of sensor that hasn't been updated & will likely malfunction as well, as has been reported by many other xterra owners. i have been estimating fuel level in tank by using trip odometer, and vehicle now shows 42k miles...gauge continues to malfunction intermittently. i would like it repaired under good faith by a dealer, with no out-of-pocket cost, when i take it for the recall notice about replacing the front impact airbag sensor...haven't scheduled that repair yet, but would like to have it all done at that time. thank you! *tr

I drive a 2007 nissan xterra...which i bought new from the dealer. i stopped to get gas a few months ago and noticed that, after putting gas in my tank, my light still said i was on empty. after a few hours it jumped back up to full, and now, as soon as my gas is at 3/4 of a tank, it automatically jumps to e and my check engine light remains on. i am constantly stopping for gas because i cannot tell how much gas i have. further, after doing research, i have discovered this is an apparent huge problem with other nissan xterras, pathfinders and frontiers from the 2005 to 2007 years. i have also discovered that any auto place wants to charge me up to $600 to fix this part..which is an apparent defect from the manufacturer. i should not have to pay any money out of my pocket to fix this! *tr

I have a 2007 nissan xterra with 14k miles. fuel gauge does not register when tank is filled up. occasionally as driving, my tank will be completely full, but the gauge will shoot down to empty and cause low fuel light to come on. this will also trigger the check engine to come on. the engine, at times, as also acted as if it is about to stall due to being out of gas...which it is not. my mechanic, whom i have used for many years, has informed me that this is a fuel line sensor in the gas tank after running the codes during trying to get my vehicle inspected, which failed due to check engine light being on. this seems to be a problem for a number of people with this vehicle. *tr

 1) fuel gauge stopped functioning, and service engine indicator lighted. the fuel gauge behaves erratically, generally showing tank is empty, even when full. 2) problem occurs constantly, requiring careful tracking of mileage to determine when to re-fuel. 3) checked on-line forums for nissan xterras, and this is a common problem caused by corrosion to the fuel sender unit. most replacements cost between $450 and $650 for parts and labor. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 nissan xterra. there was a recall under nhtsa campaign id number 10v075000 (fuel system, gasoline: storage, auxiliary tank) the contact experienced the identical failures as mentioned in the recall. the contact called the manufacturer regarding the fuel system and the manufacturer stated that they could not repair the vehicle under the recall due to the vin. the manufacturer did recognized a problem with the vehicle's fuel system but will not repair the vehicle. the contact was concerned that the recall was not related to his year, make, and model vehicle. the failure mileage was 107,000.

Upon filling my 2007 nissan xterra on july 11, 2011, i noticed that my service engine light was on and that my fuel gauge registered near zero. as i drove away the fuel gauge gradually rose to indicate a full tank. when i went to my nissan dealer to check the error code he indicated that the problem was in the fuel sending unit. which would cost $300-$400 to repair since i had just exceeded the extended warranty mileage coverage limitations. in reading the descriptions of other owners of nissan trucks and suvs it appears that this is a systemic problem and needs to be addressed through a factory recall.

The gas gauge no longer registers the accurate gasoline level in the tank and the service engine light comes on. there was a recall for 2006 and 2008 models but not for 2007. there have been numerous complaints on the web from other nissan owners on this exact same issue.
04/01/201038000
When gas tank gets to 1/4 mark the gas tank empty light comes on the the gas gauge stops working. shortly after the check engine light comes on. the same thing happens when i fill my gas tank up when it is at a 1/2 tank. the gas gauge drops to empty, the gas tank empty light comes on and then the check engine light. there is a recall out from nissan for 2006 and 2008 xterras for the same problem. for some reason nissan skipped their 2007 xterra model on this recall.

I own a 2007 nissan exterra it has 70,000 miles on it. the fuel level sending unit does not work properly. when i have 1/4, 1/2 tank of gas, sometimes 3/4 tank of gas the gauge drops to empty and the service engine lite comes on. i have read on line that his is an ongoing problem with the exterra dating back to 2003. should this not have been a recall by nissan? should we wait until someone get killed before something is done.

Tl- the contact owns a 2007 nissan xterra. the contact stated that the fuel gauge is broken. the check engine light is illuminated continously and when the vehicle's tank is full it will register different levels. the contact has run out of fuel on occasion. nissan was contacted and they stated that there is a recall on model year 2005 and 2008, but not the 2007 and the repairs would be at his expense. the vehicle has not been contacted. the failure mileage was 80,000. the mileage was 90,000. rd

I am also having issues with my fuel sensor unit in my 2007 nissan xterra at 38,500 miles. i filled at the gas station, getting ready to leave on vacation and then it went down to empty. the ses light came on, so decided to cancel my vacation! a couple of days later the needle went back to full. after filling gas 4 times, my ses light has gone off and it seems to be working, but do not let it go below half a tank to be sure. and, of course it is not part of the recall for the 2006 & 2008 models that use the same exact sensor unit....how convenient for nissan!

My gas tank registered 1/4 of a tank, which meant another 50 miles. i live in the country and work 45 miles away. i set my trip meter but only made it 15 miles and was left stranded on the highway...again. i did make it to the exit ramp. had to wait an hour for help in a high crime area at 5:50 in the morning.

Fuel sensor failure. always tells me my gas tank is empty when it is full. when on 1/4 of a tank, it will drop to e, so i'm not sure how much gas i really have left. check engine light always stays on. once in a great while it will turn off, and when the gas gauge drops to e, the check engine light comes back on. i have been stranded not knowing if i have fuel in the 2007 xterra or not. was told i did not have the year of xterra for recall evn though i'm having the problems all other xterra's are recalling. i do not know if there is something really wrong with the xterra or not since this light is on all the time.

I have a 2007 nissan xterra truck. check engine light stays on and fuel shows empty. researched this and there seems to be alot of others with the same defect. could run out of gas in the middle of driving and have an accident. fuel level sending unit, p0463 diognostice code. there should be a recall by nissan.

Fuel gauge works erraticly, sometimes stays at 1/4 other times will go to 1/2, and never seems to warn of empty

Error code p0463 on nissan vehicles (mine happens to be a 2007 nissan xterra) anyway, i am seeing on many forums that this issue is a known issue ans is quite common and to complain here in order to encourage nissan to issue a recall.

The check engine soon light came on after several incidents with the fuel gauge not registering properly. a po4630 code came up and a malfunctioning gas sensor was apparent at this time. four times the fuel gage failed to register--then check engine soon came on. the failure has not been corrected yet because it just occurred but after seeing the outrageous cost and i cannot afford that--not at this time. a recall is necessary.

Faulty fuel level sensor in my 2007 nissan xterra does not give an accurate reading of the fuel remaining in the car. i have run out of gas while driving at 40+ mph even though gas gauge indicated that there was 1/4 tank remaining. nissan has issued a recall for some 2006 and 2008 xterra's with the same problem but has refused to correct the issue in all xterra's. i called nissan consumer affairs and was told that i'd have to wait and see. i called the dealership and was advised to buy an extended warranty, drive the car for 30 days and then have it fixed for free and, when i indicated that the fuel level sensor prevents me from getting the car inspected, was advised to drive it illegally. i have been told that repairs cost between $600 - $800 and that depending on the conditions of the recall i may not get reimbursed for repairing a malfunction that nissan has acknowledged exists in the xterra. i would encourage you to pressure nissan to extent the recall to all vehicles experiencing this issue as it seems they are trying to limit their cost. *tr

I discovered i have a faulty gas gauge on my 2007 nissan xterra two to three months ago. the gauge does not correctly show the remaining amount of fuel. every time i fill up the gauge either sticks where it was at when i filled up, or it will bottom out and the fuel light will come on. i find it necessary to keep track of mileage using my odometer rather than risk trusting a faulty gauge. nissan has recently issued a recall for this issue but has only recalled six months worth of xterra vehicles, even though there is proof that this is a widely occurring problem as witnessed by the number of complaints online from consumers.the production date on my xterra was nov. 2006, right in between the two three-month recalls issued by nissan. i am writing to bring this bookend-type recall philosophy to your attention. solving a problem goes beyond issuing recalls. companies such as nissan are too focused on limiting the numbers of vehicles recalled rather than keeping customers safe by including all impacted vehicles. i believe such companies should be held accountable for such widespread safety issues.

When my mileage hit 36,446 my service engine light came on in my 2007 nissan xterra. it failed inspection and the gas gauge stopped working. when i called the dealership they said it was the fuel pump and it would cost about $600.00 to fix. now there is a recall on certain models and they said mine is not one of them how can this be? by the way i have spoken to at least 2 other xterra owners and they have had the same problem. if this is occurring in more than one individual does it require investigating. it failed inspection because there is something in the fuel pump that is giving a bad emissions reading. *tr

I have a 2007 nissan xterra and i had my check engine light come on and while receiving the code to tell me what is wrong i found that it was the fuel level sensor circuit signal high/open code p0463... my dad had an xterra 2002 and had the same problem. i brought my vehicle to a local shop to find out that my vehicle would cost about $600 to get this fix and that the vehicle would not pass inspection without this being resolved... i also did some reach after the guy at my local shop said that this is a very common problem in nissan trucks and i found the same thing online from many nissan owners. something needs to be done to make nissan motors responsible for a recall*tr

I have a 2007 nissan xterra. the fuel gauge reads 1/4 of a tank even after fill up. i've done some research, it seems that this a very common problem with a lot of later model nissans. my wife drives this car transporting our newborn baby to and from daycare, doctors appt. etc. this needs to be resolved in the form of a recall by nissan of north america. thank you for any help you can give us. *tr

After filling my tank, my gas gauge light was still on and the gauge still showed empty. soon the service engine soon light came on. it will not reset. this is a costly repair and is obviously a defect, since there are so many other complaints regarding this same problem. *tr

2007 nissan xterra with 57,000 miles. the service engine soon light came on after filling fuel tank. checked the code at an auto part store. code is p0463-faulty fuel level sensor. after doing some research found that this is a common fault on nissan xterras and frontiers. this failure could cause someone to run out of gas is they do not get the fuel level sensor replaced at a cost of $500 to $600. *tr

Upon filling my 2007 nissan x-terra (with 42000 miles) i noticed that my fuel gauge was not reading full. soon after my service engine soon light came on. i called the dealer and was told that this sometimes happens and my needle would work itself back up and after a few trips my ses light would go off. i have since done a little research and come to find out that this is a widespread problem not only with x-terra but with other models as well. there is are multiple sites such as nissan help.com ,x-terra world.com where people all over are have this same issue and asking for help. there is also a service bulletin reference number for this problem (ref #ntb07-069) so obviously someone has acknowledge its existence. i also have picture proof that nissan has since fixed the problem in the modification of the replacement part changing the original part because the fuel gauge is not working properly my concern is that should i run out of gas in the middle of traffic or at a traffic stop not only could there be an accident but possible if not probable loss of life. also, in california we are required to smog are vehicles every 2 years and with my ses light on this will be impossible without extremely expensive repairs and as a single parent would leave me financially bound.my warranty of course has just expired at 36,000 miles however the problem still exists and existed before the expiration of the warranty. i am also in the midst of writing the national board of consumer affairs as well as nissan customer affairs and my congressman ken calvert. *tr
