My 2007 nissan exterra began to experience a rumble strip like affect apparently due to a defect in the radiator having a leak into the transmission and causing a transmission to begin to fail. this seems to be a common problem and should be a recall on nissans part i was forced to pay 3000 dollars for a co-pay to fix this problem and it seems this should be a recall as it is a known defect.

Vehicle has been shuddering at around 50mph. approx 2 weeks ago, it wouldn't shift, so i couldn't drive faster than 25-30 mph. i had the oil changed and transmission flushed, and it seemed ok, although it was still doing the shuddering. yesterday i noticed a strange puddle on the garage floor, so i checked it out. there is a leak that is causing coolant to leak into the transmission. i began doing some research on the internet and found that this is apparently a fairly common problem in 2005-2010 nissans. i never received any notice of the warranty extension. when i called the local nissan dealer, the service guy knew exactly what i was talking about when i described the problem, and estimated that to repair would be $4000-5000.

My transmission starting slipping. the problem was that the radiator cracked and allowed anti-freeze to leak into the transmission. our winters are very snowy, icy and cold leaving me without heat and in a dangerous situation in wintery conditions.

After my vehicle was making shuddering noises between 40 and 50 mph i decided to bring it to the nearest dealership to be checked. i was told the radiator leaked coolant into the transmission. i was also told this has been an issue for nissan so they would cover part of the repair and i would be responsible for $2500 of the repair since i was 1300 miles over the limit. i was notifies the radiator and transmission needed to be replaced. i told the service representative i did not have the money at my disposal and asked if there was anything i could do. i was told when i get the money to call and they will repair it, but to also hurry because the transmission could lock up anytime and cause a major accident. i was shocked they would even let me leave the dealership. i immediately called nissan customer affairs and explained my situation. they told me i was they would not be able to assist me in any way and suggested the same as the dealership, to quickly get it repaired because i can cause a major accident. i was appalled they would allow their customers be in danger and endanger other drivers on the roads especially when nissan admits to this being a quality issue that a majority of their consumers are having. *tr

I've noticed that nissan has been under investigation for receiving a number of complaints from consumers in regards to sudden, catastrophic transmission failures in 2005-2010 nissan pathfinder, frontier and xterra's. well i am writing to tell you that my 2007 nissan xterra has fallen victim to this. it has been diagnosed with the problem of the transmission fluid cooler located in the radiator assembly that allowed coolant to mix with and contaminate the automatic transmission fluid, resulting in damaged internal transmission components and a damaged internal transmission computer. i had no warning signs leading up to or just prior to the failures. what is nissan going to do about this???? recall ?? *tr

Last month the car seemed to start slipping gears when i got up to around 40 miles per hour. it was sporadic and once i let me foot off the gas for a second it seemed to clear and be ok. i started to see a slow leak of what i thought was oil in the garage where i parked the yesterday. when i mentioned the leak to a buddy and also told him that my heater was not working, he said we should check the coolant in the radiator. when we opened the radiator cap, there was a slimy brownish sludge all over the bottom of the cap. that afternoon, i brought the car to the mechanic across the street and he said that i had a radiator failure of some that has caused radiator fluid to get into the transmission. this is where the brown sludge has come from. he said the car needed a new radiator and the transmission had to be flushed, dropped, and serviced and it would not guarantee that the transmission needed to be replaced sometime soon after. the entire thing he quoted me as costing $3k. i called my nissan dealer where i had purchased the car from new in april 2007 and the gentleman in the service department seemed quite aware of the issue and informed me that the radiator replacement is under and extended warranty from nissan, but i would still be out of pocket for at least a $2500 co-pay for the replacement of the transmission. *tr

I was driving down the street at approximately 45 mph. the vehicle began to vibrate horribly. the electrical component that informed me whether i have the vehicle on drive turned off. the check engine light came on. the car began to decelerate. i was having problems getting the vehicle to accelerate. eventually the vehicle turned off. i took the vehicle to the mechanic who informed me that coolant has entered the transmission and ruined it. now the vehicle will not start because the coolant shorted the vehicle.

Nissan has a confirmed problem where coolant from a faulty radiator component leaks into the transmission and causes slipping or won't shift to overdrive. they have extended the warranty out on the radiator to 80,000, but are hesitant to committ on the permantely damaged transmissions. a flush won't solve the problem. i was merging in city traffic and had a upshift failure where it just vibrated almost causing a accident. the initial condition is dangerous, and nissans unwillingmess to committ to replace the terminal transmissions even inside the 80,000 extension seems like throwing a risky and expensive situation on the customer. very disappointed in nissans sheepishness, expected more on a well pulicized and documented concern. i feel this is a dangerous situation.

Started smelling a burning smell. noticed a fluid leaking under the car. dealership said transmission needed to be replaced but didn't give any further details. topped off transmission fluid since it was low. 30 miles later, while doing 65 mph on the freeway in traffic, the car suddenly slipped out of gear and slowed drastically almost causing the car behind me to rear end me. i slowed and it popped back into gear. i got it off the freeway and was then able to barely get it into a parking lot. i had it towed to a repair shop and was informed that fluid from the radiator was leaking into the transmission which damaged the transmission. i went back to the nissan dealer and they apologized for not providing me all of the details and stated that nissan is aware of the design flaw in the radiator but is not covering any of the repairs.

I purchased a 2007 xterra at the beginning of the year with just over 80,000. i have the problem where the radiator and transmission failed simultaneously. i am currently paying a $292.00 note on a car that will not move. i felt comforted in the fact that i purchased the extended warranty with coverage for 100,000 miles or 6 years after the purchase. the factory warranty will not cover the cost to repair the radiator. even though i have warranty coverage for transmission, the same dealership that sold me the expensive extended warranty and overcharged for the car is trying to charge $7700 for the job with new parts or $5500 to do the job with used parts. i know now that the job would have to utilize a new radiator because the original radiators are causing coolant and transmission fluid to mix. i see reports that nissan is starting to recognize the fact that they have faulty radiators but is not holding themselves liable for any of the damages to any of the parts of the car even though most it is under warranty (even though everyone's radiator should have a factory recall by now). there is even a new york times article about the radiator/transmission problem with multiple nissan models. it is written in the contract that if the radiator causes the problem, then the transmission damages will not be covered. also the radiator, which seems to be the part causing all of the problems, is not even covered at all in the warranty nor is it under a factory recall. i purchased a certified pre-owned car with a warranty because i did not want to have a car that would give me further financial troubles in costly repairs. nissan is aware of this problem, but does not take any responsibility because of how much it would cost to repair radiators and/or transmissions for everyone that owns an xterra, frontier or pathfinder.

2007 nissan xterra power train/timing chain problem. the vehicle was purchased new and was regularly maintained. the repair is a major cost from $1600 to $2500 to repair it was slighty over the maintenance when problem discovered by nissan on a regular service visit. a claim with nissan corp. was made and initially denied after several months of not being able to drive the vehicle worried that the engine would go. i continued to fight the denial and comply with all their request to obtain records on all maintenance done to vehicle. they finally responded and only paid a portion of the repair. the repair cost was still an economic burden. the parts were replaced to my knowledge. i am very displeased with the outcome especially being a loyal customer for many years. i am truly disappointed with how nissan treats their customers and will never purchase a nissan vehicle again!

Noticed that the vehicle was shifting hard especially in overdrive. soon after the vehicle overheated on 4/4/11. added coolant to get to garage. upon inspection found that there was coolant in the transmission. had it towed to the dealer and they confirmed that there was a crack in the transmission cooler and it put coolant into the transmission. the radiator and transmission needed to be replaced at a cost of $7400. i called the dealer i purchased the vehicle from and they told me there was nothing they could do for me it was a nissan issue. called nissan customer support filed a complaint. after reviewing my complaint they told me there was nothing they could do for me. searched on line and found that there are many nissan's from 2005 -2007 with this failure. nissan is ignoring the issue. contacted the attorney genneral's office and they are investigating. the vehicle is currently at a nissan dealership and has been since 4/5/11. we feel that the vehicle is unsafe to drive.

My xterra could only go up to 40 mph. the clutch felt funny like it was loose. took it to the dealer that i bought if from and they said the clutch has to be replaced. it has just over 28,000 miles and i bought the 2007 xterra brand new. a clutch shoud last longer than 3 years! i paid over $1,600.00 for the repair.

Bought 2007 nissan xterra in september of 2007; sept of 2008 had to replace the clutch, with 23,000 miles on it. i've drove a standard car for 12 years before i ever replaced the clutch. i called the dealer and they would not replace it. i was stuck with replacing it. bad clutch! *tr
