Defect SummaryPiaggio is recalling 2,428 my 2006-2008 bv 500 and my 2005-2007 x9 500 scooters. the fuel hose connecting the fuel filter to the fuel pump may come loose. if this fuel hose connection is loose, or has become completely disconnected, then there will be a drop in, or loss of, fuel pressure to the engine.
Consequence SummaryLoss of fuel pressure and engine stalling will increase the risk of a crash. a fuel leak can also result in a fire.
Corrective SummaryDealers will replace the length of fuel hose connecting the fuel pump to the fuel filter free of charge. the recall began on july 3, 2009. owners may contact piaggio at 1-212-380-4400.

Started piaggo bv 500; engaged throttle, throttle would not disengage; as a result scooter ran away; before loss of control, kill-switch would not engage; brakes were applied to avoid further acceleration and the scooter dumped... temperature outside was in the low 20's, and there may have been frozen condensation on both the throttle body and the kill switch; after scooter was at rest, kill switch did engage after operator made multiple attempts to engage/disengage while the rear-tire was still spinning; sustained injury to left leg, left hip, and possible neck injury... have contacted piaggio corporate and local authorized dealer... currently working to resolve this matter. *tr
