Bought van used august 1999 with 91,000 miles. van now has 134,000 miles. transmission has been rebuilt/replaced 3 times [2 rebuilds - october 2000 (cost: ~$1600) and april 2001 (cost:~$550); replaced with used transmission after last failure april 2003 (cost:$901)]. computer controls (single board engine controller - sbec) went bad while traveling at night on interstate on a trip - caused cam sensor and crank sensor to go bad as well (cost: ~$550). as you can see we have spent ~$3600 on a van that was purchased for $3700!!????? i am considering legal action against chrysler now.

I have always owned a chrysler for the last 31yrs and i have never had a problem with them ...after checking the problems with the yr 93 van's there are many whose transmissions that have gone out after or around 100,000 miles...i would like this checked into as i was going to buy another chrysler soon. but now can not afford to after having spent so much on repair of the transmission. please direct me to the proper area to see what can be done about compensation for the transmision. i would love to continue owning chrysler's and know that i will receive the satisfaction that we chrysler owners have always received. thank you. *ak

The transmission slips at starting and after stops is slow to re-engage, the radio for a long time has shut off on its own and then when you try to turn it back on sometimes it takes 20 to 30 tries to turn it back on. the transmission and radio problems are the same as a van owned by my wife's brother.

Transmission was rebuilt using 'all new parts'. i brought it back to the mechanic several times due to hard shift up at 20-30 mph. he took it apart every time and said there was no problem that he could see, even though he agreed about the hard shift. i paid $1,400 out of pocket because it failed 3 months after the warranty expired (and when the balloon payment was due at the end of the gold key lease.) it recently began making a high pitched drill type noise upon accelerating at any speed, along with both hard shifting upon acceleration and deceleration. the noise continued for about 3 weeks, and stopped 4 days before the transmission totally failed. it failed at 65mph, in cruise control in heavy traffic, only 18 months after it had been repaired. the vehicle began bucking like a horse, with the transmission shifting very hard down and up several times. i disengaged the cruise control and it lost power steadily until it would not drive any more. the engine sounded like i was flooring it in park even though it was in drive. i switched from drive to reverse and back 3 times before a gear would engage. it would operate in reverse. i was able to resume enough power to get us home.

Transmission will not shift into gear when started (intermittent problem) and has shifted, by itself, into neutral while in operation. the van is still in warranty and we are asking that they fix or replace the transmission as we feel it is unsafe to drive the vehicle in it's present state. the starting problem involves the car turning over vigorously but not starting when the ignition is activiated. on the second or third attempt the car will usually start. the problem is more frequent in warmer weather and as the day goes on.
