My abs light came on when driving, within seconds, i had absolutely no brakes. the dealer fixed at no charge, although i had to pay for towing. today has been 2 weeks since i've had the vehicle repaired. as i was traveling down the freeway with my 4 children, the abs light came on again, and the brakes were gone again. when i purchased this vehicle in 1999, the abs system was replaced on 3 seperate occasions for the exact same reason. each time with the guarantee that it was fixed. what will it take to have this issue resolved? the death of my children and i? i purchased this mini van for the reason of safety due to the fact that i drive with my children quite a bit. i am very unhappy with this issue. to add to the dilemma, i am currently raising my children alone due to the fact that my husband is overseas at war. with the added stress of my husband being away, i really feel the burden with my mini van is extemely uncalled for. i can no longer do the simple tasks of going to the store without feeling fear that my vehicle will all of a sudden not stop. i am just trying to get by in a safe manner while my husband is away. and this expensive vehicle made by chrysler/plymouth has failed to do this for me. your immediate response is expected!

The abs system failed three times on 4/15/08. the vehicle is a plymouth grand voyager, 1993. i almost hit a car that was turning in front of me. then the abs and parking brake lights lit up on the dash board. i barely made it home without hitting anything and parked my car in the garage. when i went out a few minutes later to take it to a mechanic nearby, the brake pedal dropped when i turned the key to start the car. the brakes were mushy until i got it to the mechanic. he confirmed the problem is with the abs system and that it was covered under the recall. the byers chrysler dealership now has the car and is claiming they cannot reproduce the problem and will not replace the abs until they can. i do not want to kill myself or anyone else with a braking system that may fail at any time. *tr

I have had trouble with the abs since i bought the car. the system has been replaced 3 times to date and is now beginning to fail once again. i have had numersous repairs to the a/c system. thew first was in 1996 ($472). the second in 1998 ($850). the third also in 1998 ($286). the fourth again in 1998 ($673). the fifth in 1999 ($178). the sixth in 2000 ($688). so, to date, i have spent over $3000.00 having the a/c repaired on this vehicle. the frequency of repairs and the amount paid for these repairs is unacceptable and suggests that there is a major problem with this component that should be the responsibility of the manufacturer. to summarize, i have had frequent and excessive problems with both the abs and a/c systems. thank you for you attention.

08/26/1998208/01/1993
I previously submitted a hard copy of the original failure (nhtsa reference number 828479) via normal mail. this submission is to document a similar safety issue that occurred 7 weeks after the original problem was 'fixed'. i will repeat the information from my original submission for reference. original submission (10/22/98): i had a recall performed on the abs system in 1996. at that time, i was under the impression that a defective designed part was being replaced with a newer designed part and that the abs system would now function properly. in august of 1998, while driving down a road at 35 mph, i attempted to brake and had no brakes at all. fortunately, no accident occurred. i took the vehicle to spartan chrysler plymouth in murray, ut who informed me the abs hydraulic system 'piston assembly' had failed. they indicated that this was the same part for which the recall was issued in 1996. they told me (in 1998) that in 1996 the recall only consisted of checking the part to see if it was bad. my question is that i wonder if the recall was really just to check the part? this seems like a serious safety problem. the part can work today and pass the recall 'test' only to fail tomorrow and cause injury or death because the vehicle loses the braking system. wouldn't it be safer to remove the fauly designed part and replace it with a known fixed part? update (11/18/98) on 7 november, the braking system of my vehicle failed with identical symptoms as before. without warning, there was no braking system in the vehicle. again, we were fortunate to not cause and accident. i returned the vehicle to the same spartan dealership. this time they diagnosed the problem as a failed 'accumulator pump' in the abs system. they insist the two failures (2 months apart) are totally unrelated, that there is no history of abs failures in this model of van, and that there is no underlying problem which is causing these parts to fail. the vehicle was repaired on 1
