| Defect Summary | Vehicle description: light duty passenger minivans without remote release. this is not a safety recall. there has been no determination that a safety defect exists with the minivan latches. chrysler is conducting a service campaign to replace the liftgate latch assembly of the affected minivans. in a collision, the rear liftgate latch assembly could open. | |||||||||||||||

| My wife uses this vehicle. on a family trip in april i heard a rattling that sounded like a door partially opened but i could not locate the source. a couple days later i went to supermarket and tried to open the rear hatch with my key. the rear hatch would not open. i used the electric door latch and the rear hatch opened. at this time i noticed the three mounting bolts for the lock mechanism were gone. i put in three metric bolts (sae bolts would not fit in the present holes) but found they loosened over time. i finally put in 3 bolts with lock washers and double nuts to prevent back off. i observed that the metal was too soft and fatigued because the threads were non-existent, which meant it use as a lock assembly is incorrect and dangerous. i have 3 children who ride in this van and i am very concerned. this unit was replaced under a recall on 4/23/96, recall #cfxg6405, auth code 3831, performed by chrysler plymouth of paramus new jersey, 234 route 4 east, phone 845-0701. chrysler is a very difficult company to deal with. the customer service is not helpful. i tried calling but the line is constantly busy. this matter should be investigated. *ak | |||
