The rear heater damper actuator failed to operate the damper, melted down, then due to this meltdown, it ruined the main control box in the dash board on the heater controls......evidently shorted out. the rear actuator-mode control, part 4734026,(cost $45.60) and the ae control- a/c and heater controls, part # 467761ae, (cost $375), with $150 labor. total cost, $570. questions: is this a possible fire hazard? should not a fusible link, or fuse be installed in the system to keep actuator from being melted down and control box overload protection? this would be a simple fix to keep equipment from having failure and meltdown. plus seemingly high parts cost, and one week trying to get the parts.*ak

The power window on the drivers side just became sluggish and finally went down and wouldn't come back up, a bracket was broken, the entire assembly had to be replaced. the transmission would not go into gear during very cold weather and it was not a consistent problem to begin with. when you put the car in drive the engine would rev but it would not move forward. then finally after warming up a few minutes it would lurch forward and be fine. finally this past week it began making a grinding noise in reverse and refused to go in reverse. the car was put into drive and the grinding noise continued. just fyi when i contacted chrysler corporation about this problem, because i think a car should be able to make it to at least 100,000 miles before you start experiencing major problems, the customer assistance rep told me that i was unrealistic to expect my car to make it 100,000 miles. i find this amusing since this is the first car that i have owned that has had any major problems before 100,000 miles. my transmission mechanic also told me that he can only guarantee my repairs for 90 days because there are so many problems with the transmissions in these vehicles.

The van we purchased has integrated child car seats. the buckle flap is made of hard plastic. as we were waiting at a stoplight, my 2 year old son showed me a piece of the buckle that had broken off. it was about the size of a dime. he easily could have choked on it. i informed the dealership and was told that it was under warranty and they would replace the car seats. (the other buckle is beginning to break. i then called chrysler and told them about the choking hazard and they did not see it to be a problem. if this was a toy it would have been recalled. they are replacing the buckle with the same buckle part it had. the same problem will occur. i do not want any children, including my own to choke and die. please help!

 G. the side window on our minivan shattered while the vehicle was parked in our driveway. the front windows were down, so there was not heat build-up in the vehicle. the police came and reported that it looked as if it had just shattered out from the inside. since nobody was inside the van, it had to have happened on its own. also, we asked our dealer about this, and he said that there have been plymouth vans like ours around town that have had the windows just shatter on their own due to this solar glass that is being used. our dealer also said that plymouth hasn't recalled any of the vehicles, and i don't feel that is right. what if my daughters had been sitting inside when it shattered..it could have been a tragedy. i hope plymouth will take care of this before someone does get seriously injured. also, being a family of limited income due to high medical expenses, this is not what we expected when we invested in a new vehicle. *ak

Tl*the contact owns a 1998 plymouth grand voyager. the contact stated that the windshield wipers would activate without warning and would not turn off. the dealer has not inspected the vehicle. the mechanic suggested that the cause of failure could be electrical. the current mileage is 178,000 and failure mileage was 170,000.

Dealer has been unable to remedy the problems with the windshield wipers, many component have been replaced (multifunction switch, wiper motor and body control module) but none have been able to fix the problem, the wipers either don't come on or fail while in motion. nlm

I have had 5 windshield wiper failures since about june 1999 (remember it has not rained much in maryland this summer so the wipers have not been used much). the condition lasts from 5 to 10 minutes. the wipers will either not start up or will fail during driving. after about the 5 or 10 minutes the wipers return to normal operation and so far have not failed after they start working. this appears to be a random event since i and the dealer have been unable to cause the problem to happen on demand. the dealer has tried to find wiring problems once but was unable to determine the cause. on 31 august the dealer is to replace a module to see if that fixes the problem but i will not know until after it rains again. it is unsettling to have your wiper blades fail while driving and could cause a seriouly dangerous situation if it happens on the highway.

Intermittent wiper function ceased working correctly. would wipe a couple times then quit. turning it on and off caused it to work a couple more times then quit. dangerous, since one relies on the intermittent function to continue to work. problem came and went. more noticeable in wet weather (when of course you actually need the wipers) then in the dealers dry shop. finally dealer replaced the multi-function switch. worked better for a while, then same problem returned. dealer cannot find anything else wrong. refused to consider clock-spring problem.
