My car gradually began smelling like gasoline at the beginning of november. i thought it was the gas cap, replaced it, and it has not gone away and only become stronger smelling whether the car is in park or driving on the road. it also is hard to start after sitting for a few hours, it will not crank over on the 1st attempt anymore. i have researched on here, and found there was a recall and 1000s of others are having the same problem as me. however, because i am in ohio and not part of the recall states, my vin is not part of the recall and it is a major concern. i have called pontiac and the best advice they gave me is to send it to a certified gm dealer. after reading posts on here, it seems that they are charging the consumer 500+ for a new fuel pump and that is ridiculous since it is a recall on the other cars with the specific vins. what exactly will it take for gm or pontiac to step up and say hey we made a mistake on most of these models, not just the 69,000 we recalled?

The power steering failure light comes on as well as all the other warning lights and gauges quit working while driving which makes it a safety concern. we have received a notice from gm that this vehicle might have a recall because of the steering failure but have been told by our pontiac dealer and gm that it does not. the vehicle has been to the dealer 3 times in the last month for this issue. first time, the dealer said they didn't find anything. within a half hour of leaving the dealership, the car was brought back to the dealer for the same issue. the dealer replaced the ecm and after a few weeks the issue has returned and has been a the dealer for a week but they are unable to find problems and seem to have given up. have talked to gm customer service during this whole time.
