Gm notified the agency by letter dated january 28, 2009, that it will conduct a safety recall of pontiac g6 vehicles built from january 3 through january 31, 2005.vehicles produced during this time period have shown a highly elevated incident rate of improper operation of the brake lamps. odi opened this investigation after receiving reports that consumers would use their brakes and discover that the brake lamps would not illuminate.also, consumers report that the brake lamps would illuminate when the brake pedal was not applied.odi's review of the complaint data finds that the complaint rate for the january 2005 production is 20 times greater than for the remainder of the subject vehicle population.likewise, the warranty rate for the january 2005 production is 11 times greater than for the remainder of the subject vehicle population.in its letter to the nhtsa, general motors (gm) explained that the primary cause of this brake condition was fretting corrosion (oxidation) of the connector pins on the body control module (bcm) that connect to the to the brake pedal position sensor (bpps).the corrosion prevents the bcm from receiving the correct signal voltage from the bpps.in december 2008, gm released technical service bulletin (tsb) #08-05-22-009 to provide technicians the correct repair procedures for subject vehicles that experience improper illumination of the brake lamps.this action taken by gm is sufficient to resolve the issues raised by this investigation.

 The office of defects investigation (odi) has received 212 reports alleging that the brake lights do not operate properly on model year (my) 2005-2009 pontiac g6 vehicles. complainants allege that the brake lights illuminate when the brake pedal has not been depressed, or the lights do not illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed. in addition, the cruise control may not engage, or will disengage unintentionally. brake lights that are not operating properly may not warn a driver in a following vehicle of the braking status which could lead to a crash.in september 2008 odi opened a similar investigation into allegations of brake light malfunctions on my 2005-2007 pontiac g6 vehicles. this investigation (pe08-054) resulted in safety recall 09v-036, which involved 7,927 my 2005 and 85 my 2006 g6 vehicles that were manufactured in january 2005 only. the complaints identified for this investigation include vehicles that fall outside of the my2005-2006 scope as well as my2007-2009. odi has opened this investigation to further analyze the scope, frequency, and consequence of the alleged problem.odi reports cited above can be reviewed at www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/complaints under the following identification (odi) numbers: 10186123, 10198379, 10226647, 10233337, 10237257, 10237443, 10242892, 10242974, 10245994, 10246811, 10247445, 10248648, 10251698, 10252653, 10256146, 10259164, 10259508, 10262510, 10265137, 10267563, 10272554, 10272680, 10274756, 10276198, 10278314, 10280214, 10280437, 10280702, 10281405, 10282601, 10283648, 10283709, 10283872, 10283981, 10284439, 10284739, 10284895, 10287117, 10288681, 10288769, 10290292, 10290754, 10291552, 10292045, 10292342, 10292602, 10293731, 10294340, 10294987, 10296554, 10297002, 10298743, 10311147, 10312295, 10315452, 10315923, 10323819, 10325883, 10331954, 10334393, 10335330, 10336458, 10339070, 10339082, 10339962, 10341313, 10341720, 10341956, 10342135, 10342311, 10343065, 10343160, 10343380, 10343552, 10345234, 10345667, 10346508, 10346703, 10347380, 10347975, 10347988, 10348195, 10348484, 10348702, 10348929, 10349096, 10349144, 10349728, 10350337, 10350521, 10350744, 10352203, 10361349, 10361827, 10362834, 10367071, 10368142, 10369205, 10369862, 10373273, 10374645, 10374747, 10377939, 10379879, 10381158, 10381620, 10382960, 10383965, 10386426, 10389668, 10392581, 10393829, 10394125, 10396647, 10399927, 10400458, 10400984, 10401363, 10401464, 10402717, 10403746, 10403971, 10405393, 10405413, 10407113, 10408424, 10408468, 10410850, 10412313, 10413139, 10414693, 10416069, 10418583, 10420933, 10421355, 10421423, 10421445, 10422254, 10423956, 10425361, 10425391, 10426017, 10426529, 10426787, 10428011, 10428874, 10428883, 10429031, 10429156, 10430063, 10432946, 10434054, 10434857, 10434904, 10434936, 10435989, 10437323, 10438816, 10439882, 10441803, 10441938, 10443742, 10444920, 10445188, 10445424, 10446383, 10447843, 10448235, 10448509, 10448994, 10450150, 10450225, 10450513, 10453534, 10461152, 10461732, 10462109, 10462511, 10463009, 10463197, 10463381, 10464125, 10464372, 10468772, 10468993, 10469095, 10469673, 10471918, 10472737, 10474209, 10475196, 10475636, 10476699, 10476719, 10476721, 10476902, 10477478, 10479221, 10480124, 10480866, 10481987, 10482008, 10482132, 10482148, 10483307, 10485249, 10487427, 10487512, 10487969, 10489094, 10490655, 10491871

While driving my 2005 pontiac g6, the brake lamps go off when i actually press the brake pedal. they will stay on or sometimes flash at random times the entire time i drive. it is a well documented problem with these cars and it is related to corrosion on the bcm. this has happened twice to me in this car. pontiac has never issued a recall, their way of fixing it is putting dielectric grease on the connectors and calling it good. it worked for me for about a year, and the problem has resurfaced....while driving down the interstate at 65mph. faulty brake lamps are an extreme danger to anyone driving the vehicle. *tr

When the brakes are applied, the tail lights go out. while driving the brake lights are on causing cruise control not to engage. the brake pedal position sensor has already had the dielectric grease put in the connector but still malfunctions.

Had car fixed with dealership from a recal involving the brake lights not functioning properly in 2009. recently the same issue with the brake lights has been occuring, identical to the recal issue. i.e. brake lights go on while driving and do not function while braking. when bringing it into the dealership they told me it would not be covered under the recall as it was already serviced for the recall and is probably another issue even tho the car problem is identical to the recall issue and want me to pay out of my own pocket.

Brake lights are malfunctioning. lights are stuck on when brake pedal is not depressed, and turn off when it is. cruise control doesn't function when this problem is occurring. i know there is a recall on some 2005 g6 models but my car wasn't included in the recall. the recall needs to be expanded to include more cars.

Improper operation of the brake lamps. while using my brakes i discovered that the brake lamps would not illuminate. also, the brake lamps would illuminate when the brake pedal was not applied. i called gm dealer and they indicated my vehicle was not part of thieir recall. it is an extremely dangerous condition and deealer informed me that they had no idea how much it would cost to fix it until they did diagnostic testing. when i explained it is the same condition as recall# 09v036000 they just kept telling me that my vehicle is not part of the recall. gm needs to expand the recall to all pontiac g6 vehicle, not just those manufactured in january 2005.

I bought the car in april of 2008. in july of 2008 i was experiencing problems with the brake lights working opposite, cruise control stopped working as well as instrument panel. i had a new body control module put in my car and it was fine up until november of 2010 when i started having problems with the instrument panel again. in december of 2010 my brake lights started working opposite again as well as flashing while i am driving. i have been harrased by other motorists who i have gotten mad because of this problem. it is a serious safety issue as other motorists cannot tell if im braking. i have called gm this week and they have told me that the work i had done for the same problem is no longer under warrenty. suprising. i have done some homework and looked up the 2005 pontiac g6 problems and it shows only a small majority of these cars have been recalled for this problem. mine was not on this list. why? i have also found thousands of other owners with the same problem.

2005 pontiac g6. brake lights stay on when driving, cruise control disengages and have to depress brake petal extremely hard to get out of park. researched problem and found out that there was a recall for this problem for some but not all vehicles of that model make & year. was told that my vin were not included for that recall. this is of major concern for me, an accident almost occurred due to this problem. with the economy the way it is and lack of funds to be able to repair what should have been covered by gm why was my vin number not included in this recall of the same problem? if an accident occurs gm should be required to pay for all damages both to the vehicles involved and any personal injury or death.

I own a 2005 pontiac g-6. the problem i have falls into one of the recalls you list - brake lights fail to illuminate when brake pedal is depressed, but remain on when not pressed. also, difficult to shift from park to reverse and the cruise control does not work. i contacted general motors and was told that your website is inaccurate and that there are no recalls for my vehicle. i also contacted a local dealer and was told the same thing. i'd like to get this resolved, but gm will not honor my request. this is a safety issue and if there is a recall, then i would like to know why gm denies there is a recall.

Pontiac g6 brake lights were operating opposite (brakes lights illuminated while driving and not illuminated while brake is applied). cruise control not engaging. apparently there was a recall for some models of the g6 but was told by pontiac that my g6 was not covered under the recall for the exact same issue. *tr

The brake lights on my '05 pontiac g6 (sedan) stay on all the time. they will briefly go off when i use the brakes but then come back on. in other words they work in reverse. i have had the brake position switch replaced 2x's at the dealer (1/9/08 and 9/9/08) and also completed a recall notice (08317) that applied dielectric lubricant to c2 connector (5/22/09). i continue to have the same problem. *tr

One day the car's brake light stayed on. it occurs daily for no reason. it has drained my battery and burnt out the lights. it also confuses drivers. i went to a pontiac dealership to get it fixed and they said the recall i was speaking of didn't involve my vehicle. they wanted to charge me $116.00 just to look at the vehicle. i called gm and they told me that they did know of the recall, but it didn't pertain to my vehicle because it wasn't built in the month they have had the problems. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 pontiac g6. the contact stated that the brake lights remain illuminated without the brakes being engaged. it is very difficult to depress the brake pedal when the vehicle is in park. in addition, the cruise control is ineffective because the brake light is illuminated. the vin is not included in nhtsa campaign id number 09v036000 (exterior lighting:brake). the dealer stated that there was no remedy for the issue. the failure mileage was 103,000.

2005 pontiac g6 has a problem with the brake lights where the lights stay on while brake pedal is not being pushed, or don't come on at all unless you push really hard. i looked online to see if i could find a solution and found many other people are having similar issues. *tr

2005 pontiac g6, brake lights come on without touching the brakes. it occurs sporadically. if you tap the brake pedal, the lights go off for about 3-5 seconds, then they come back on. i've had it in at the pontiac dealership twice and they don't know how to fix the problem. i've done internet searches about this issue and it appears to be happening to other g6 owners all over the u.s. i've had other motorists flash me and motion to me on the freeway and i don't think it is safe to drive the car this way. *tr

I own a 2005 pontiac g6 which i purchased from a dealer after it had been leased for 1 year. the vehicle had 12000 miles on it when purchase. numerous problems have occurred with this vehicle after purchase. starting with a noise, clunk in the steering. this has been in the repair shop for upwards to 7-8 times, each time new repairs done on different parts. this problem has never been resolved. now at 64500 miles the noise is still there after repairs only 4000 miles ago. starting in october of 2007 i began having problems with the brake lights and cruise control. brake lights working only sporadically as well as the cruise control. there has been documented repairs on the is of 7-8 times as well. this problem also has never been resolved. on september 17, 2008 my car was involved in a rear-end automobile accident in most part and no doubt due to faulty brake light system. many other problems have occurred with this vehicle as well including poor sunvisor manufacturing, leaky map lights in overhead console, rapid wear of brake pads and rotors, rapid tire wear, starting drags when starting, occasionally the car will not shift out of park when the car is running and brake pedal is applied. *tr

2005 pontiac g6 has problems with the brake lights, brake pads, and rotors. *nj the day after purchasing the vehicle, the consumer had to take it back to get an alignment and have the rotors replaced. in june 2008, the consumer took the vehicle to the dealer because the brakes were making a noise. the dealer was unable to duplicate the issue. two weeks later, the front pads had to be replaced because they were worn. the sunroof had to be repaired due to a rattling noise it was making. after the sunroof was repaired, it began to make a different noise. a technician determined a pipe had ruptured. the brake lights were on when the vehicle was in drive. the consumer then received a recall letter in the mail regarding the defective brake lights after already paying for a sensor that didn't resolve the issue. *jb
