The problem first appeared in may of 2011. i usually leave my car outside. i had family visiting from out of town and my family was givin one of our vehicles to drive. my car was then put in the garage for a short time and this intense smell appeared. we first thought something was spilled in the garage.... we searched and found nothing. after our visitors left, it wasn't until mid august that the car ended up in the garage; again the intense smell of fuel was present in a very short period of time.... it was at that time that we discovered it was the car. i took it to the dealer and ironically, the man ahead of me ( with a pontiac g6 ) was bringing his car in for and intense fuel smell coming from his car. i left the car with the dealer and checked online for any service bulletins on the vehicle. i discovered that there was. in fact, a service bulletin issued in the pontiac g6 for cracked fuel pumps, and this was confirmed by the dealer. in the end, i had to pay $291.01 to repair the fuel pump on a car with only 41000 miles - ( gm says they split the bill 50/50 in good faith. ) i will tell you that this will end up being a recall in the coming year because someone will be injured or killed by ignoring this problem... i would still be driving around with this crack fuel pump had my car never been put in a garage. i have been a loyal gm customer for more than 25 years and have had every one of them leave me stranded at least 4 times - replaced a transmission on my 98 blazer at 70,000 miles - and don't get me started on the 1986 chevy z24. i have put up with a lot with all the gm vehicles i have owned - and i almost bought a new buick regal that was on the lot while waiting for my car the be checked in.. but i think it's about time to check out what toyota or honda has to offer.... just had enough.

Raw fuel smell coming from 2006 pontiac g6 and lose of power. i have read in some online forums and this seems to be a problem with others g6's also. most have stated that this could be a possible crack in fuel line.

I bought my g6 gtp when it first came out in 2006. since then i've had numerous problems with my vehicle. first there was a problem with the paint on the car, it looked like water spots. i took it in to the dealer 2weeks after i bought it. after many attemps they were able to get the spots off but they hav slowly came back. second my my speakers blew after 1 month of having my car. they were replaced. third, my two front lights must of had tiny holes because they would get really foggy after taking my car to the carwash. they had to be replaced also. fourth time i received a letter for a recall due to a bad mounting of the sunroof hose. it stained my headliner and had to be replaced. i had to take my car back like 3 times because after replacing the headliner they apparently didn't put things back how they should therefore on rainy days the water would come inside my car through various places. finally they got it right and it was rain free inside my vehicle. fifth, my transmission gave out on me twice. six, when i turn my wheel it makes this horrible popping noise, very irritating. seventh, my about a month now my car had been smelling alot like gas, not to mention i hav a 2yr old and a 7month old that are always in the car. i regret buying this vehicle and iam very concerned for my family and myself! there should definitely be a recall on this gas problem. if anyone can help me please all of us that own these pontiac g6 please do!

 1. a few months after the warranty ran out i noticed a cracking in the paint on the hood only. the car is washed and waxed regularly with no unusual products. paint has continued to deteriorate on the hood only (rest of the car is fine) and is now chipping through the clear coat entirely and to color underneath. i expect ths will soon be flaking right off! 2. around same time paint problem started, cd player stopped working. 3. have experienced intermittent electrical shorts/problems with the console and have had to reset the clock and temp many times in addition to faulty service airbag soon warning that comes on then and disappears for months at a time. 4. within last few months, have begun smelling strong odor of gasoline outside the car even several hours after it has been turned off...fuel fill ups don't increase or dissipate this. smell seems to be getting worse (intensifying) over time, however, although i cannot detect a leak or any noticeable change in the fuel economy. 5. several months after warranty ended began having difficulty starting car on hot starts...car cranks but doesn't ignite (same in hot and cold weather). this became more frequent until suddenly it completely reversed itself. now hot starts are generally fine, cranking and non ignition typically happens on cold starts (same in hot and cold weather). for a car purchased with 29k miles and is now only at 66k i say this is deplorable! all these things occurred after 36k warranty ended but within the first 20-30k miles put on car. ridiculous! my last car was a plymouth and ran fine well over 100k (only major job was replacing timing belt @ 100k)...i don't think i can anticipate the same kind of longevity from this car. considering the other serious problems raised concerning steering and everything else, i don't know what to do with it.

I purchased a 2006 pontiac g6 april 21, 2007. afterwards i started noticing a popping noise when i would turn, so i took the car in to be serviced 9-2007. they replaced the tie rod adjuster & reset toe-in, but again i still had the same problems. also i've been having problems with the window leaking on the drivers side. the ac / heater blower stays on when car is not on which caused my battery to drain so i took the car in again april 11, 2008 and they told me they replaced the drive shaft & blower motor resistor but still having the same problems. now i am noticing that the passenger side air bag indicator doesn't register when someone is in the front seat w/ seatbelt on. sometimes it comes on when there is no one in the seat. the starter continues to crank while trying to start car and sticks when the car is started. last but not least, after purchasing fuel the car gas gauge drops drastically only after going about a mile or two. *tr

I have two complaints. i have a 2006 pontiac g6. it has 107,000 miles, they are all highway miles. my fuel tank recently started leaking alot of gas. i took it to the mechanic and he said that is not something that i could have caused and that it is a defective part. i am very concerned because my car can catch on fire. the second is the power steering has been bad since i bought the car, they just keep telling me they can't find anything wrong with it. what can i do to get this resolved? the power steering just locks up sometimes and i have to turn my car off and back on to make it work properly. the power steering light always comes on. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 pontiac g6 gt. while driving the vehicle off the dealer lot at approximately 2 mph, there was an electrical failure with the power windows. in addition, the cell phone charger fuse continued to blow out. the dealer stated that they would make repairs under warranty. there was bubbling in the paint job that was also repaired under warranty. whenever the vehicle is started, the stereo changes from xm fm to am. the screen for the xm radio is blank, the clock is always behind, and the fuel gauge never works properly. it is difficult to tell exactly how much fuel is in the vehicle. the engine ticks periodically and it sometimes stalls upon starting. the nuts in the door loosen every two weeks and make a loud clunking sound when they are coming loose. there is also something wrong with the power steering. the failure mileage was 20 and current mileage was 18,000. update 09/10/08 *cw the power steering failed and was replaced, but it still was not right. the drive shaft began to unusual noises. updated 09/10/08. *jb

When i first purchased the car it only had 10 miles on it and within the next 6 months it would not start and had to be towed to the dealership 3 times. the first 2 times i was told that there was some loose wiring or that the wire was to close to a component and the component melted the plastic covering the wires. the third time i was told there was a problem with the security information but, it was corrected. then at 40,000 miles the car started jerking whenever i drove it. it seemed as if the gas was not getting to the engine quick enough (i'm not a mechanic) then the mileage went considerably down. for a full tank of gas i used to get 451 miles this is told through the fuel monitor that is in the car. but, after this began occurring the monitor would state 239 miles after i filled it up! i have had to fill-up 6 times in 2 weeks. when a tank of gas used to last 2 weeks for me. i went to the dealership that i purchased the vehicle from and was told that i am no longer under warranty so they would have to charge me to diagnose the vehicle. once they diagnosed the car they stated that it was the catalytic converter and the would replace free of charge and that i would not have to pay for the diagnostic test either. while i was ecstatic to know that they were going to fix my vehicle at no charge to me, warning bells did sound off immediately. when i received the invoice back from them it stated that these items were replaced: oxidation catalytic converter, 2 gaskets, 1 pipe and 2 manifold core chg. and after all of this work which took from 8:30a.m to 2:00pm, my mileage monitor is now reporting 300 miles for a full tank of gas when originally i was getting 451. after reading all of these complaints re. this vehicle i am just disgusted. i will review this site when purchasing my next vehicle which i think will be pretty soon. *tr

I have a 06 pontiac g6 w/ 20k miles. at 4k miles it went to the dealership for a cd player problem. now i have more problems. 3 weeks ago we went to use the vehicle and the battery was dead. it was towed to dealership and batt. found to be bad. last monday 29th we found the battery to be dead again so it was towed back to te dealership again. once again battery was bad and replaced. then we had been noticing problems with the fuel range, mileage and low fuel light. you would be driving and the gas gauge would say you had 1/4 tank left and 39 miles to empty. you drive a mile and the gauge is on empty and it says low fuel!!! the dealership says no problem found, working as manf. built then it would say you have x amount of miles to empty then the number would jump up and down. took to dealership who said. no problem found, working as manf. built. i picked it up from the dealership and it said 206 miles to empty, i drove a half mile and it said 180 miles to empty. then drove a quarter mile and it said 193 miles to empty. this was under normal speeds and acceleration. my dealership finally refused to work on the vehicle so i took it to another dealership who said cannot duplicate the problem so i dropped it off to have the oil changed. come back 15 hours later and the battery was dead. towed to the dealership again. they replaced the battery again. i picked it up once again and the fuel mileage said 142 i drove a half mile and it went to 130 i drove a quarter mile and it said 126 miles and then i drove 700 feet and it said 116 miles. i drove it back to the dealership and when i stopped i had 131 miles to empty. this car has been in the shop every day since monday the 29th. *tr

In april i started to notice a faint smell of gasoline emanating from the rear of my vehicle. thinking nothing of it i paid little mind. as the months have gone by i have noticed the smell has gotten worse and now fuel drips from the back of the fuel tank in small quantities after being driven for even a small amount of time. researching on forums i have found much talk of this same problem as shown: http://www.aboutautomobile.com/complaint/2006/pontiac/g6/fuel+system http://www.g6ownersclub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2647 this seems to the average observer to be directly linked to the current expansion campaign 12v459000 which originally addressed in recall 09v-419 a quick glance over of the parts shows that they have differing model numbers, however have an design in the area in which the breakage is occurring. my primary concern as a consumer is that this is a non moving part that is not in an area that could be exposed to normal wear and tear as such it can be deduced that this incident is tied to a faulty design and not user error. this is a safety hazard caused by a design flaw that the company has already recognized is in error in multiple other vehicles and as such the recall should be expanded to cover the 2006 pontiac g6. *tr

2006 pontiac g6. consumer states problem with fuel assembly *tgw the consumer stated the engine light illuminated and she could smell gasoline coming from the rear of the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to a local mechanic. an inspection revealed, the fuel pump assembly needed to be replaced, as it was leaking from the top portion of the assembly onto the muffler. *jb

Engine light came on, stayed on, ran rough-took it to the dealer (27,245 mi) & they replaced the fuel pump module. they said it was a sensor but it was better to replace the entire module. *jb
FUEL SYSTEM, OTHER - STORAGE - FUEL GAUGE SYSTEM

The fuel gauge in my 2006 pontiac g6 does not accurately register the amount of fuel in the vehicle once the gauge reaches the fourth of a tank mark. the was one incident when the vehicle registered empty when my car was full of gas. the dealership has made 3 attempts to fix this problem. to date the vehicle is still giving a false reading with the fuel gauge when it reaches one fourth of a tank. the gauge moves sporadically from 1/4 to 1/8 to empty, and back to 1/4 and so on. the service department has verified that the pontiac g6 has replicated this problem with 2 other vehicles in their service department, but claims this is a common feature for the pontiac g6. i spoke to an engineer affiliated with the prototype pontiac g6, and he stated that the vehicle should not be doing this. he suggested that there was a problem with the electrical or software maintenance. i have requested a re-purchase be done on my vehicle, but this has been refused. i am being stone walled by two individuals, and all i requested is that a pontiac engineer be contacted to verify whether this is a problem that needs to be addressed. *jb
