The air bag light has illuminated and i see there was a recall for other g6 2206 but not for my vin number. i have the same problem as the others that were recalled. also i am having an extremely difficult time getting my car out of park. i have to push the brake with a tremendous amount of force and hope that is comes out of park. again g6 2006 was recalled and my vehicle does not fall into those vin numbers. it is extremely frustrating to know that safety and faulty pieces are not covered under a recall that same year model and make were covered. please let me know what i can do besides contacting an attorney to have these items fixed under the recalls that were issued for g6 2006 pontiacs. thank you

The first instance that i was made aware of this issue was when a police officer pulled me over to question the brake lights issue of them not coming on while i was stopped. it appeared that they were just not working, however the issue initially went away and i was not made aware of the brake lights working intermittently for a year after that. occasionally other drivers have signaled that there is something amiss with the brake lights. however, it appears that now that the car is at 100,000+ miles, the issue with the brake lights is now constant. the issue does not disappear and reappear. we have now had another driver follow the car to test the brake lights, and it is exactly that the lights are on continuously while driving and occasionally turn off and then when the brakes are pressed, the lights turn off, and so on. it appears that the contact is incorrect between the brake pedal and the brake lighting. it appears that the exact issue that i am experiencing is described by: nhtsa campaign id number: 09v036000 however, my car's vin is not included in the stated impacted population, however the manufacturer does state that the issue could afflict more cars, but that the primary period in which this manufacturing issue occurred was addressed. i would argue that point as it appears that this car is impacted by this without any recourse. *tr

04/01/201070000
In the past year i have had to get my brake pads and rotors replaced on my 2006 pontiac g6 gtp. after the first time getting the brake pads and rotors replaced, i have been in the shop every month. most recently, i had the front and rear rotors and brake pads replaced at the same time. exactly one month after the replacement, my brakes are squeeking when i go to brake.
12/15/200650000
Since about 6 months after i bought the car i noticed how shaky the car would get when i pressed on the breaks going at speeds 60mph or faster. i have replaced my breaks twice and they still squeak and shake. my husband is going to try to have my roders turned to see if that helps but this is ridiculous. with the power steering issues and the break issues, i really feel like pontiac has built an unsafe vehicle.

The brake lights on the vehicle come on randomly while driving. this causes the lights to be inoperable while depressing the brake pedal. i have been in several close calls for rear end accidents. stopped by the police on 2 separate occasions. also this is the exact problem that gm has in the 2005-06 pontiac g6 brake light recall notice. i have had the vehicle serviced under recall 2 times now. the fix lasts approximately 3 to 4 months, then the exact same, extremely dangerous, brake light and cruise control issue returns. when the problem occurs the cruise control disengages at random also. this has caused many nerve racking situations when cruise control disengages in traffic while traveling up a hill. gm's fix of applying dielectric grease to the connector is a band aid type fix and is not a remedy for this extremely dangerous recall issue. the newer model g6 vehicles do not have this issue, making it obvious that gm saw a need to fix the problem in house. this problem has been occurring for 4 years at minimum. the car currently has 89k miles and i am the original owner since new. i keep the car in immaculate mechanical condition. this defect needs to be fixed in the correct manner before somebody loses a life.

I hit a pothole and the bracket holding the control wires for the abs and traction control on the passenger side broke and my shocks ripped the wires. i now no longer have abs or traction control, atleast on stated tire. my idiot lights in the dash are now constantly on and put out an alert ding every time the car is started. i previously had some alignment work done, but that was over 4 months ago. this incident happened immediately after hitting said pothole. i hit a curb back in 2007 which led to the alignment work that was done a few months ago. the plastic used for the windshield washer jets has also recently corroded and fell apart, so they no longer work either.
12/07/201030000
My current problem with my 2006 pontiac g6 sounds the same as the recall for the 2009 pontiac g6. today (12-8-10) i had to bring in my car in to the dealer after putting my car in park, which then proceeded to roll. the wiring system did not seem to recognize park or disconnected from the transmission. i later tried to turn the ignition and the car would not turn on at all. 4 months ago i brought it in for the key getting stuck in the ignition because the car didnt recognize it as being in park. three other times i had issues with the brake/foot peddles. i would have to break to accelerate and drive to slow down or it would not accelerate at all until it reached 30mph. it would automatically drive in traction control and read decreased engine power on the panel. in addition, i have recently had a fountian of water pouring into my car surrounding the sunroof on either side of panels btwn the front and rear windows, resulting in severe interior damage and subsequent mold spores growing. instead of the filter surrounding the sunroof filtering water out, it is filtering water in.
03/31/2010715001
The brake lights on my car only work properly on an intermittent basis. the brake lights come on when the brake pedal is not engaged and the brake lights will stay on at times when the brake pedal is no longer engaged. the cruise control will also just disengage while driving down the road or fail to set a speed when trying to set. there is a current recall on this exact problem with cars like mine. however, gm claims that my vehicle is not included in this recall as the defective part/issue is not on my vehicle according to the vin number issued. *tr

I bought a g6 new with 39 miles, it now has 28 thousand miles. notices serious problems with braking, it shakes and when i try to stop it shutters . my steering is not good either, some days the steering will be nice and smooth and other days hard to turn. i also here a popping noise when i put my foot on gas pedal to drive.. the braking system is of major concern as they all are. my car is only three years old and only 28 thousand miles why has there not been a recall, it seems others out there are having the same problems, so it has to be the car. before someone dies the government needs to call a mandatory recall,if the dealer won't..or replace our auto's with a safe one.. *tr

We are having the same issue with our 2006 g6. our exterior light sometimes doesn't work, the cruise control sometimes doesn't work. we had to replace at our own expense the brake rotors due to inferior quality. we were having the vibration issue some mentioned. my wife could not get it out of park one day, we had it towed to the dealership. we got the same story about the recall about not being covered by the recall and having to get it diagnosed at our expense. last year our brakes completely failed and we rear ended a minivan. luckily no one was injured. but our insurance is going up. i cannot wait until our lease is up in feb 2010. we will trade this thing in and get a dependable foreign vehicle. *tr
09/25/2007160001
I purchased my 2006 pontiac g6 in july of 2006. when i received it had 300 miles on it and have loved it ever since. i would say i noticed a slight popping noise and i felt it as well when i make turns. shortly after that my brakes began to sputter and cause my front end to shake when i applied my brakes every so often. for about a year now i have noticed that they shake every single time i apply my brakes and it gets worse and worse each day. one last item of concern is regarding the steering of my car on roads and highways/ freeways. my car is uncontrollable when driving causing it to shift to the left and right quickly making it hard to keep on the road which is hazardous to my safety and to the safety of my passengers. i have read up on these issues and it came to my attention that numerous owners of this vehicle have had the exact same problems so i know that it has nothing to do with the way i drive my car. i am satisfied with my car otherwise, but am extremely disappointed in the issues i am facing today on a car that is only three years old with 33,000 miles on it. *tr

Faulty brakes and steering on 2006 pontiac g6 gt. very dangerous! i've had rotors turned at 7000 miles, 14000 miles, 24000, miles and just recently at 32000 miles. they must be poor quality. i've been driving vehicles for many years without brake service for 50000 + miles. warranty is almost up (in 2 weeks) and i'm nervous. had steering components replaced because of a popping noise and shimmying front end as well as both tie rod ends (seems a little too soon for all that!). current mileage is 33,500. i don't have money to keep pouring into this lemon after my warranty is out. i am not currently having any problems, but with all of the complaints i've already read, i'm sure more issues are coming! what is wrong with gm! no wonder they are bankrupt. who wants this kind of quality vehicle they claim to make. unfortunately, there are other gm models with the same steering and brake issues. someone will be killed and then heaven help gm! lawsuit! issue a recall for god's sake! step up to the plate if you want to restore consumer confidence. start making real quality vehicles like you use to. you can buy back my g6 anytime! all i've ever purchased is gm , but now i'll go buy a ford. *tr

The brake lights and cruise control work do not always work. sometimes they dont work at all and other times the brake lights come on without pressing the brake pedal. i got a warning from a police officer that i had no brake lights and then realized that when my cruise control was not working, neither were by brake lights. my wife said sometimes she cannot got the car out of park and must turn off the car and try again to get it out of park.

My brake lights stay on, then go off when i depress the brake pedal. i was nearly rear ended this afternoon on a major highway because of this - i called pontiac and this had been a recall issue but they said my vin wasn't included in the recall, so they won't help me. my airbag light is also staying lit, and the dash says service airbags - which had also been a recall and they won't help me with that either.

I own a pontiac g6 2006 its the worst car i have ever owned i have put 4000-6000$ in to this car and still continue to have problems on a daily basis from the power steering catalytic converters brakes tire rod ends wheel barrings and numerous other problems i have paid more on fixing the problems on the car than i have paid on the car there are currently no recalls to my knowledge but i strongly beleive the entire car should be recalled and gm should pay back what the car was purchased for!

The rear brake pads and rotor on my 2006 pontiac g6 had to be worked on when it only 30,000 miles on it. i had to replace the rear pads and had to have the rotors turned down. the way the rotor was grooved in 2 spots and more than 3/4 of the rest of the surface was rusty. it was a certified used car when we bought it with only 19,000 miles on it. i even took it to the dealer and was told it was normal wear. very hard for me to believe that after seeing the rotors when i took them off.

I own a 2006 pontiac g6 sedan and i believe there should be a re-call on the braking system for this car. i myself have experiance brake squeaking after all new brakes were replaced on the car no reason for this. other problems reported and i know people that have experienced are, rotors and pads wear pre-maturely, brake rotors warping, bad vibration or shaking when car slows down at fast speeds, squeaking and squealing brakes when they are applyed. i don't understand once new brakes are installed on the car this should not be happening!!

I have a 2006 pontiac g6, with 66,638 miles on it. i am having issues with the brakes and the cruise control. the brake lights stay on and when i push on the brake pedal they go out, when i am in park i have to push the pedal all the way to the floor in order to put it into gear. i have noticed at times they flicker. i can not set my cruise control either. i have made phone calls to the dealer and to pontiac about the gm recall # 80317. i was told that this recall only matches vin #'s 64100001 to 64100093 and that i will have to pay for work that needs to be done on the car. i questioned why i can have the same make and model as the recall but my vin # does not match? they informed me that the part numbers and the manufacture may be different!!! i feel this is a safety hazard to myself and my family and gm is not wanting to help me fix the problem, all they are looking for is taking my money for what seems to be a manufacture defect in the car. *tr

2006 pontiac g6 sucks. the steering pops, brake always squeak eventhough i replaced the rotors and pads, and lose power steering. a week out of my extended warranty and they will not cover it. the same dealership where i brought 4 of the 5 cars i owned. all were gm models. i stood along that brand until now. i hope it totally goes out of business. do some one have to die before this issue gets solved. toyota is fixing their issue. american cars, service, and quality sucks. never again will i buy gm cars. *tr

2006 pontiac g6 with 22,000 miles on it. was told that both front and back rotors need to be replaced at a cost of $660. investigated on line to discover that this is a common issue with pontiac vehicles that the rotors warp and rust with as little as 12,000 miles. my vehicle is covered under a bumper-to-bumper warranty, however gm claims this falls under normal wear and tear. it is not normal for rotors to need to be replaced so soon. *tr
10/16/2009220001
All four brakes and rotors replaced at 22,000 miles due to pre-mature wear and sub-standard original parts. dealership wanted outrageous prices to replace with the same crap parts. also suggested replacing a failed ball joint and strut which was just out of warranty. offered minimal assistance from gm, so went to mr. tire which was much better and cheaper. this car is just made poorly. *tr

The front brake rotors on my 2006 g-6 pontiac keep warping after only 10k miles it causes the front end to shake violently on the internet it seems there is a lot of other owners going through the same thing & all gm wants to do is resurface the rotors once but then 10k miles down the road you have the same problem if someone doesn't recall the rotors someone is going to end up dying from a brake failure this is the 2nd time i complained but another owner call you guys & someone told him that know one has complained about the rotors which is not true i filed a complaint about 2 months ago. *tr

I bought my '06 pontiac g6 in june of 08. i had to have new brakes put on the car in dec '08. at the brake shop i was informed that my rotors were badly worn (more than normal) so i had them machined, the tech also informed me that i needed ne calipers. in jan of '09 my breaks began squealing again! my rotors were once again worn! i have read many complaints about the braking system of this model and therefore believe that there must be a defect. i needed new rotors when the car only had 60k miles! this is not normal!!!!! it is my understanding that nothing has been done by gm on this issues, and i believe that it is time!!!! i am afraid that one day my breaks are going to go out! i can not afford to have my brakes done every month, nor should i have to! thank you for your time, sarah mae *tr

I purchased a pontiac g-6 2006 from elco chevrolet the car only had 20k miles on it. the 1st night i took it home the front end shook violently when i applied the brakes i wanted to cancel the sale right then & there but they assured me it was just rust on the rotors. so they resurfaced the rotors & it stopped the shaking for about 6 months now the car is just as bad as the 1st night i bought it. after looking on the internet it seems that there is an awful lot of people with the same problem some with as few as 8k miles and many people are calling for a recall because forget about the dealer helping you after the sale. this is a safety issue is the government going to wait until someone dies before they do something about this. in this economy i am doing good to keep up the payments on the car let alone having a major repair bill when i haven't even made 7 payments on the car yet. *tr

The car was purchased from auction in april of 2006. i have had the car three years now. from the time that i purchased the car i have had problems with it starting. it will turn over but dies immediately after it starts. it usually take three tries before it will start. today i got in my car and turned the key nothing would come on, no lights no radio no noise nothing. i thought it was the battery. i tried it three times and then on the fourth time it started like normal. i checked the battery and it is fine. i have had it in the service department three times for this issue but because it would no do it at that time they could not determine what is wrong with it, the diagnostic test did not show anything. the service airbag warning also keeps dinging. i have taken it in and they reset it and said it was ok, now it keeps doing the same thing but it is not covered by warranty to have it serviced. i have had trouble with the powersteering also. there are times it will be extremely hard to turn and then in a few seconds it is extremely easy and now in the last few months i have had problems with the brakes. the brake pads were replaced two months ago and about two weeks after they were replaced they have started making a really loud squeaking noise and sometimes a grinding noise. not sure what needs to be done since the brakes were just maintenance. the car has been very dependable but i am afraid that it will not stay that way for long. *tr

While traveling to work on the highway at about 65mph. i tapped on the brake and turned the wheel to avoid an object in the road. when i released pressure off the brake pedal the wheels were all locked and the brakes were still engaged. i slid out of control and was unable to get the brakes to release pressure off the wheels. i finally came to stop by hitting the concrete median. if it would have been a busier time of day i would have been in a horrific accident. i feared for my life during this incident. there was no indications leading up to what happened. i as many others also have the loud clunking noises in the front, it sounds if my front end is going to fall out. i am afraid to drive it at this point as the brakes still feel as though they are partially engaged. given the date of occurrence i have not at the chance to take it in and have it evaluated, i will be doing that this week. *tr

I have had this car for almost 3 years. it squeaks like the plastic is rubbing against each other. the brakes have not stopped squeaking. i have had them redone about 4 times. the black rubber strip is rotting. there is a leak on the passenger side coming through the little square right about the seat belt. my warranty is up and my extended warranty does not carry over to fix any of this. my car upholstery was already redone once due to a flooding and i paid for that. now the backseat smells like mold. the handle on the passenger side of the car has been replaced twice because it keeps coming off. this is the worst investment i have ever made. i just found out that the power steering is actually electric. i hate it. *tr

Mr. did evasive manuevers at 65 mph to avoid deadly collision with fully loaded senior citizen van by a driver with a cell phone. steering wheel was very loose, brakes pedals were very easily depressed, none of the front air-bags deployed and car seats did not lock. mr. hit median concrete at 60 mph. ambulance and emergency room dictated, you all very lucky to have survived. 3rd party administrator(esis) counter claims mr.. that because mr. collided with median sideways the air-bags did not deploy. mr. argues that front driver portion of car hit median first, air bags should have deployed and seat belts should have locked. 3rd party administrator counters. because there is no proof we cannot claim such fact. she (3rd party) is insisting on us to sign medical release forms and submit pictures of car. mr. has advised that car is repaired and has been sold. confusion arises when dealer agrees that car has sensors and collision shop did not indicate any sensors. mr. is confused whether stabili-trak or some other systems should be in place to have prevented the collision with median and under the tire sensors should have been in place. if any system (stabili-trak or other) were in place, the whole accident could have been prevented. esis-claim #660283. *tr

I leased a 06' pontiac g6 in june of 06' and i've had nothing but problems with the car since i got it. on 2/16/08 i was on my way to florida for vacation and i was half way there when i noticed the brakes were grinding. i only have 26,000 miles on my car and this was the first long distance to ever be driven with my car. so when i arrived to florida on bad brakes i took it to a pontiac dealership and they told me i just needed brakes and it would cost 210 per brake because all they brakes had went. and i didnt have the money to pay for brakes (which very rarely go all at once or at 26,000 miles.) i had just replaced all 4 tires a week prior. so i took my car to have a second opinion at another place who specialize in brakes only and they found that the calipers in my car had malfunctioned and they wore the brakes down to bare metal. pontiac refused to pay and told us that brakes aren't in the warranty and that it's normal wear and tear. which i know first hand its not. my father has a 04' kia and hes been back and forth to florida 4 times and has 36,000 miles and hes never replaced his brakes or tires. this is totally ridiculous and i know this is not normal to happen to a car. *tr

My brakes started making a whining noise the week of 11-12-07. i had it looked at by the dealer on 11-21-07..the service manager advised me that i needed to replace my brake pads and recommended to have the rotors resurfaced. my car first came out in 2005. i've had my car 1.5 years. i do not drive in a lot of traffic. if anything i drive less than what i've ever with any car. i have had several cars leading up to this one and have never had to replace/fix anything with the brakes. i had my brakes fixed 11-26-07 and had to resurface the back rotors down to a 1,000. they will never be able to be resurfaced again. i had to replace all of the brake pads and resurface the front rotors as well. i am very shocked that i had to fix the brakes this soon! *tr

Purchased my ga sedan in april 2006 as a new car with 7 miles. at approx. 15k miles, noticed a popping noise coming from the front when making turns or accelerating after a hard stop. took it to the dealer, was advised that a bolt used to correct this service issue was on backorder. while waiting for that part, approx. 2 weeks later, noticed that the abs and traction control warning lights came on while driving, then later when starting the car. came on sometimes and sometimes not. returned the car to the dealer, reminded them about the popping noise in the steering, and waiting now for them to call me to say they have repaired the vehicle. last issue which i have not addressed yet is the panoramic sunroof.it creaks when temps are cold, and sometimes will malfunction when opened, if you have it open in the first position, then try to close it, it will open to the fourth position. had to turn it to another position, then return it to the closed position for it to close. *tr

I purchased my pontiac g6 gt in september of 2006. shortly thereafter, i had to return it to the dealership because the horn would not work properly. it was replaced. 6-8 weeks later, it was back at the dealership for another horn replacement. then, the starter sounded like it was hanging up, like it would not disengage after the motor started. so, i took it to another dealership, but they could not duplicate the problem and simply reset the computer and returned the vehicle to me. 2 months ago, i noticed that the cruise control was not working. a couple of weeks later i discovered that my brake lights were staying on. i took it to the dealership and a module was replaced regarding the brake lights and cruise control. the next week it was back at the dealership for the same problems. 2 weeks after the return, guess what! it was back at the dealership for the brake lights staying on and the cruise control not working. i got the car back last week, and over this past weekend, i noticed that the cruise was not working yet again. not only the brakes/cruise, but the starter started hanging again and now the drivers' side heated seat comes on and cannot be turned off!!! my car has been at the dealership since tuesday and pontiac says that they will not offer a buy back because the problems are electrical and not mechanical! i guess i will just wait on it to catch fire! *tr

The rear brake pads wore out prematurely at 30,149 miles. i contacted the dealership and was told that the brakes aren't covered under warranty, and that the back brakes lasts for around 80,00 or more miles. they also told me that the front pads wear down before the back pads i had to replace the rear left rotor, and pads on both sides. a few times while i was driving and went to brake, it sounded like the engine stopped running and felt like i had no brakes. *jb

My vehicle was purchased october 3rd, 2006, as a demo vehicle with approximately 9,000 miles. begininning at end of december my heater/air came on itself and running on high. unit would not shut off while vehicle was running. i took vehicle to dealership & kept approx 3 days and replaced complete heat/air unit. beginning in january my console lights come off and on on a regular basis. all guages go to zero and all lights in console light up. vehicle was then taken back to dealership and console was replaced. this did not resolve problem and starting doing again the the very next day. kept for approximately one week and have taken back to dealership and have been told that two technicians have checked vehicle and they can't resolve the problem. at 18,998 miles vehicle was taken to dealership and determined rotors were failing. they would not replace rotors but turned them and said if that failed before warranty expires they would possibly replace
