I have had nothing but problems since buying this car used in 2010. have had the front end tie rods, struts replaced and now the power steering is acting up. i was driving 40 mph and the car started to shake and the power steering light went on , and steering went out. was able to pull over into a parking lot. i turned car off and then back on and power restored. i know it will happen again based on all the other complaints. this problem is very serious and could cause a major accident and there needs to be a recall on this problem. *tr

Purchased used 2006 g6 in may 2007. first noticed clunking and popping noise in steering a month after purchase. local dealship did not hear any noises when they checked it over! over the 4 1/2 years that we have owned this car, the noises never go away. steering seems loose at times. driving home from work two days ago at 70 mph on four lane interstate, the clunking noises got worse and my front driver's tire fell off my car. i was able to control the car and get it to the side of the road. thankfully, there was no one on the opposite side of the interstate or near me when my tire went flying off. sure would be nice if pontiac would do something about the steering/suspension problem with this car. have read far too many stories about serious injuries, which i could have caused with my g6. i just got lucky there was no one around me when it happened.

I have had a thumping in the car when turning the steering wheel and was told that the steering gear needs to be replaced and there could be other defective parts once they get into it. at present i cannot afford to fix the problem and am saving up to get the $800 repair started. i feel this is a recall issue that gm needs to be forced to recall the g6's for this problem because a faulty steering system is a safety issue. i do not feel safe driving my car but it is the only means of transportation i have, so at this time i have no choice. also, i have had other major problems with this car every year since i bought 3 years ago. the first year was a sensor in the transmission, the second was the catalytic converter, and now this year the thermostat and sensor and this steering problem. this car is a lemon and needs to be recalled!

I have a 2006 ponitac g6 4 door sedan. the car has 45,500 miles on the odometer.at 44024 miles i had to have a four wheel alignment. now at 45,500 miles i discover that since the full alignment both of the sway bar links have gone bad. the car was making noise in the front suspension and the car sways from side to side while driving through corners or in a strong side wind. i purchased the car with 32,000 miles on the odometor and at 34,000 miles while on vacation i had to replace the rear brakes and rotors along with the front brakes with a total bill by the chevy dealer over $600.00. i also have one of the cars that has a problem with the power steering getting hard to turn and then goes back to normal. i contacted my local pontiac dealer about my concerns and to see if there was any service bulletins for the car. i was told that my problems were the results of the bad roads were i live. it seems strange to me that my 1993 corvette with 110,000 miles on the same roads as my pontiac does not have any problems with the suspension.

The power steering has gone out on my 2006 pontiac g6 without warning. there are several complaints prior to mine some involving wrecks. my vehicle is all i have to transport me back & forth to work & i'm terrified. this vehicle has several other issues including the camshaft sensor, blown struts but none as dangerous as the pwer steering going out. there ned to be a recall of this car before someone gets hurt.

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 pontiac g6. at 3,486 miles, the steering gear began to make a clunking sound. the vehicle failed to steer properly and the contact experienced difficulty keeping the vehicle straight while driving. the vehicle was taken to a repair shop seven times, but it was only repaired correctly on two occasions. the vehicle was diagnosed as having another issue during the other five visits. the contact has all seven receipts for each repair regarding the steering failure. she feels that it is a safety issue because the vehicle needs to be steered properly in order to stay on the road. the current mileage was 82,586 and failure mileage was 3,486. updated 3/27/09 *cn there was a noise coming from the front suspension when going over bumps in the road. updated 03/31/09. *jb

I have had a 2006 pontiac g6 for 6 months now and have had the following problems. one month after i bought it i have to have the steering rack repaired/replaced. now i am having the ball joint and control arm replaced. the rotors also need replaced. none of this was covered by warranty. i have heard of other g6 owners who have had the same problems and of course was not covered by warranty. *tr

I just wanted to note that i have experienced these same issues with my 2006 g6 gtp. i have had my steering components replaced at least 2-3 times in the 2 years i've owned my car. i have 67k miles and purchased an extended warranty to 75k, so my repairs have been covered, but seeing these complaints is disturbing to me. like many others here, i travel to/from work in my car each day at high rates of speed on the interstate. i hope gm will resolve any defective issues before someone must suffer. my steering was just replaced 2 months ago and i'm already hearing clicking under my front end again, so am planning to take my car back to the dealership soon. please alert all owners if gm does decide to stand behind their product and repair these issues. *tr

At first the car started making this loud noise. the noise is constant once you get up past 20 mph or accelerate. the car actually sounds like a motorcycle or something. took the car into the dealership and they diagnosed it as the left front hub bearing assembly. to bad the 3 year warranty has expired; nor is it covered under the drive train ext. this problem exist every time we take a drive ( over a week). this part is on back order throughout the parts warehouses in the u.s. (over 900 and something odd backorders). i am inclined to believe that this is a factory issue and not a case-by-case. *tr

My vehicle squeaks when i go over bumps, even really small ones. i have taken it to the dealership over 10 times. my shocks were replaced, but a couple of days later, it was doing it again. this has been going on for well over a year now. my battery died in my car and it caused my cd player not to work. when my battery was recharged and car running again, the cd player would not work. the radio does, but not the cd player. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 pontiac g6. the contact noticed that the air bag warning light sporadically illuminated on the instrument control panel. she took her vehicle to the dealer, but they could not duplicate the failure. two weeks later, the air bag light illuminated again more consistently. she took the vehicle back to the dealer and they replaced the module on the side air bag inflater. a few months later, the air bag warning light illuminated again. the dealer replaced the entire air bag system because it was inoperative. the contact has pictures of the failed component. she also filed a formal complaint with the manufacturer. the failure mileage was 14,000 and current mileage was 12,000. updated 03/13/08. *lj the consumer stated after the rack was replace, the vehicle still pulled to the right. the dealer adjusted the alignment. the sun visor kept falling down. updated

I bought a pontiac 2006 g6 gt 3.5 liter engine has a lots of power for a v6, mileage was 47,000 kilo. first week had to replace one front strut was leaking, also front top plate bearing and steering kit was knocking . traction control very noisy. now mileage was about 52,000 k . still have problem with the manual tap shifting wont shift down to 4th gear , seen the dealer three time now doesn't have the problem every thing was shifting good. seen the dealer again for the same problem yesterday thank god it did it once while the mechanic did a test drive was with him for the test now been ok for three days. now 56,123 k they said maybe wont cover on warranty because abuse , if they see sign of coffee or soft drink spills. why the car has coffee cup holder right there or near the shifter column the electronic component his right there? crazy don't you think. hope it with get better. not the best car for me up to now. with that mileage should be like a new car. *tr

Front suspension issues. i have had to replace both front lower control arms, both front wheel bearings, and the passenger side strut. with these parts failing, they also ruin the tires. this causes for me to have to replace brand new tires as well. interior light does not come on when doors are opened. parking brake does not fully release causing excessive wear on the inside brake pad of the rear brakes.

Loud popping noise when you turn the steering wheel to the right or left. driving down the street and the radio screen went completely blank and the radio wouldn't come on. cut car off and turned back on and radio came back on. repaired control arms, ball joints, and struts. popping noise continues. think its in the electric steering column.

Thought lost weight off tire because car started shimmy and drving funny, took to shop to have tires checked, guy said had wires showing on front two tires and car was out of alignment. couldn't understand why, bought it with 20,000 miles on it and it has 41,000 miles on it now. took it to another shop to find what caused alignment problem, found out today that lower ball joint is bad and on top of that, you cant replace just lower ball joint, must replace whole a arm and now tires, which were fine when i had oil changed last time. this shouldnt be a problem with a car with so little miles and little wear and tear, this is not normal, there has to be a problem somewhere.

2006 pontiac g6 power steering becomes hard to turn. it is hard to control and happens at almost anytime. what happens if it locks up while going 65 with my two kids in the car. warranty has expired and gm wouldn't fix it anyway. also a loud clunking noise has started in the front of the car. *tr
10/16/2009220001
All four brakes and rotors replaced at 22,000 miles due to pre-mature wear and sub-standard original parts. dealership wanted outrageous prices to replace with the same crap parts. also suggested replacing a failed ball joint and strut which was just out of warranty. offered minimal assistance from gm, so went to mr. tire which was much better and cheaper. this car is just made poorly. *tr

I recently found out that my 06 pontiac g6 needs a new lower control arm assembly on the passenger side. the car only has 52,000 miles on it. this is a problem because the wheel could fall off. the lower control arm should not have to be replaced at only 52,000 miles. when i took the car into the dealer they told me that i had other things wrong, when in return those parts were fine and the whole control arm needs to be replaced. after reading through some complaints i have found out that this is a problem on the g6 starting back from 2005. *tr

Continued steering/front end problems causing popping, clicking, unsteady steering/drifting and premature wearing on tires resulting in frequent replacement. - known factory/manufacturer defect with no replacement parts by manufacturer;gm admits to defect with no remedy-no recall. first report 7-25-07 without remedy. - - vehicle unsafe - - should not be available for resale. has been returned to freedom pontiac in odessa texas due to unsafe condition. *tr

I had a clunking noise on the left front of my vehicle - i took it in for an oil change and had the shop review steering issue - ball joint was bad replaced same along w/ lower control arm and completed and alignment - also had new tires put on vehicle then a popping noise occurred when turning to the left, my car even jumped the track at a car wash and i had to reverse out of the car wash and hold my steering wheel throughout the entire car wash. i then took to a dealership and was determined i needed to have the intermediate steering link replaced, power steering motor and stabilizer bar link replaced - damaged parts have been disposed of. *tr

On 2/28/09 i noticed that my steering wheel was pulling severely to the left, while it felt like the rest of the car was pulling to the right. this got progressively worse and was difficult to control the car when turning corners. decided not to take the interstate. heard a loud thump and car veered to the left. the entire left wheel assembly had fallen off the car while i was driving on a busy street in heavy traffic. when the tire and assembly came off it pushed out the left front fender and bent it from the weight of everything coming apart. police responded and told me had i been on the interstate it could have been fatal. car was towed to dealer. car is 2.5 yrs. old, 29k miles. *tr

After leaving a stop sign the driver's front upper, lower control arms, cv joint, ball joint and upper strut mount completely broke away from the car causing the car to veer sharply to the left and strike a parked car. witnesses including the police officer who witnessed the accident say the car just abruptly went left at approx 15 mph on dry level, smooth pavement. luckily the car wasn't on the highway at speed or my daughter would have possibly been severely injured of killed. *tr

Starting at approx. 25k miles the front passenger strut was replaced, 10k miles later the strut and strut mount were replaced passenger and driver, roughly 10k more miles and the entire front suspension was replaced. at 55k miles the strut is again bad and now the front passenger wheel bearings are bad and whining very loudly as you increase speed and then decrease as the speed decreases to a stop. this has been an ongoing issue and feel that there should be a recall on this. my dealership has remarked several times that this is a known issue but am very concerned that this cannot be resolved long-term. i have entered the rough original date of issue which began the first year that i purchased the car. *tr

I have been having steering/suspension problems starting two months after the vehicle was purchased. the first incident started in august of 2006. i took the car in because of a rattle in the front end when vehicle was warmed up. service dept. replaced the engine stabilizer/snubber. second incident happened in february of 2008. i took the car in because there was a rattle in the front end over bumps and when turning . the service dept. replaced the left hand strut upper mount and lubed the intermediate shaft and reset the collar on the rack and pinion. the third incident happened in july of 2008. i took the car in because i felt a knocking noise in the steering and it worsened when i was stopping. the service dept. then replaced the right lower control arm. my car is now making more noises in the front end and i have an appointment to get it serviced on august 8th (14 days after last incident). this car has only 26,000 miles on it. i should not be having all these problems with the front end. i feel their needs to be a recall on the suspension on these g6's. they are terrible and dangerous. i went on a trip this past weekend and drove some windy roads and thought either my front end was going to shake to pieces or i would not be able to stop. someone is going to get seriously hurt. *tr

I bought the car used from #1 cochran of robinson and from the time i bought i had squealing coming from the front end. upon have the tires and brakes checked nothing could be found to be wrong. i just had the vehicle inspected and found that the tie rods were both completely worn out. this is a 2006 pontiac g6 and i was told that this should not have happened in a 2 year old vehicle. i have only had the car for a year and it has now cost me well over $1,100 to get it fixed. *tr

Several issues with the 2006 g6 that we purchased in 2005. we have had the entire front hub assembly replaced, i have taken the car in for what feels like a transmission issue, the passing gear on the car does not kick in. we had the car to the dealer a 2nd time on 04/23/2007 because when we were driving the car over the weekend the car didn't kick into the passing gear at 60 miles an hour and when it did the car dropped down to 20 miles an hour and jerked and finally about 10 minutes later it went back to a normal speed but still would accelerate and decelerate on its own. took it to the deal who finally got it to do as we described but not has bad, on the next day they couldn't get the car to replicate the issue so we were told they couldn't do anything for us since it wasn't flashing any codes to let them know what the problem is. i am concerned because it feels as if the power of the car is dropping when you accelerate and i am afraid to pull out in traffic with my children in the car for fear that the car will not go and they will be injured. i could not believe that the dealer knowing that it had an issue turned around and told me they couldn't do anything for us because there were not codes telling them there was a problem, even though they drove the car and realized that the car seemed like it had a blockage that was causing the car to feel like it was stalling or the power was dropping. we have also had to have the ac module replaced. i don't feel this is a safe care for me to drive with my two children in the car. *jb
