 I was on my way home when i continued to pull up into my driveway and tried to put my 2007 pontiac g6 into park, but it would not park. i could continuously move the gear shift back and forth repeatedly and none of the movement would register with the car. my car was stuck in drive. when my car said it was in park on my gear shift, it was still in drive with the computer. if i took my foot of the brake, since i am on a hill, my car rolled backwards. i therefore was forced to use my emergency brake and put bricks behind my tires to keep my car from rolling backwards down my driveway. the next morning i had tried again to see what the issue was and my car would not start. i decided to call my car dealership and had organized to have it towed there. when the tow truck driver arrived, i explained my issue and he immediately knew what was wrong; my car was stuck in drive and you cannot start a vehicle when it is in drive. under my hood, where my car is in control of going from drive-to-neutral-to-reverse etc. was disconnected and broken. my car was taken to the dealership where i had explained my issue once more and they took it in and fixed the issue over the course of a few days. i have done many hours of research and discovered this has happened numerous times in various years of this make and model. the shift cable was broken for no reason. *tr

 Tl- the contatc owns a 2008 pontiac g6. the contact stated that the shift cable to the engine disconnected and that caused the gear shift not to lock into position. the contact stated that when they tried to park the vehicle it drifted and the emergency brake had to be used. the contact stated that the vehicle would not start after the failure. the contact took the vehicle to a dealer and was not able to give a reason for the failure. the vehicle was repaired. the failure mileage and current mileages were 50,000.rl

 I financed this used car in 2010 at 27,000 miles. since i have had this car i have not had the chance to really enjoy it because i am constantly fixing on it. i ave had a lot of problems. i have replaced brakes 2x once with rotors and they are goin out again including rotors. i am constantly replacing tires. my steering wheel pops when turning and i have had this fixed once. traction gone. had heat/air on and smoke smelling like a firecracker came from passenger dashboard. my biggest problem right now is that i had the whole suspension system replaced and now i am constantly replacing the lugs on my front left tire because the constantly pop off. brake lights and headlights constantly goes out. air bag, engine, and traction light goes on and off (sometimes staying on). power in driver door gone out for windows resulting in 3 windows unable to roll up/down but will work when wants. only one will go down using its own panel. replaced a crack in lca. remote starter gone out. car wheel shakes occasionally. interior lights doesn't work except front dashboard but minus where gear shaft at (went out after smoke from dashboard). needs struts to be replaced. also jerks with a huge pop that you can feel when putting car in gear. when accelerating you can feel it shift gears. i am currently only at about 83000 miles. nothing but trouble. scared serious accident may happen because of the lugs constantly poppin off. we don't know why. i called pontiac and gm and no recalls on this car except power-train and warranty for trans and none of this was covered by warranty or them period. tired of this car so tired!! gm and pontiac need to do something this is terrible to only be a 2007. *tr

 I am having the same issue as someone else who posted in may 2011. my husband came home today, parked in our driveway. put the car in park, removed the key opened the door and stood up to get out and nearly got run over when the car rolled backwards and towards are neighbors yard. we were so lucky that the neighborhood kids were not playing down the street or someone could have been killed. the car does not recognize it is in park. you can move the shifter easily (without out any stops) through 2nd gear all the way through to park. he can manually fix the issue by reaching down and tugging on the shifter rod, but it is only temporary as soon as you start the car back up, and move it, the car doesn't recognize any gear. please help! we just bought this car last summer used from a certified dealership and have had to replace the alternator, a new battery and now this. the worst car we have ever owned. i bought this car to replace my honda that never had any problems until it was totaled in an accident.

 Pontiac 2007 g6 gt started to show sign's of issue's shifting automatic trans into park around 50 thousand miles. the issue became apparent when i put my shifter into park and pulled my key's out and went to get out of the vehicle and it started rolling backwards and almost hit two people and another vehicle in a parking lot. the vehicle will be shifted into park but isn't actually in park. i was informed by the dealer that supposedly my shifter cable has started to fall apart my vehicle is now at 66 540 and it has become to the point where i am forced to have this issue fixed because the shifter cable is completely destroyed almost. i am under the belief that this is not only a huge safety concern if someone doesn't realize the car isn't in park but it is ridiculous that i am asked to pay 400 dollars for a repair that should be covered under the powertrain warranty. i have requested for gm to pay for this repair and they have denied my request because they are already trying to repair the fact that my airbag's don't work that i filled in a separate complaint on here. huge safety issue that almost cost me my car and could have cost two people their lives or at least their mobility. gm refuses to accept that there is a defect in the shifter cable and clip on the 2007 model of the g6 and not just the 2009 that they claim. this exact same issue is present in the 2009 g6 and has been recalled but not the 2007. i am requesting that this be investigated further because gm should be paying for these repairs... a part starts to fail 3 thousand miles after i receive the car as certified from gm

 Situation: the g6 was on cruise control at about 50 mph, the road was in vermont hills/mountains, the weather was raining -- from light to an increasing intensity. the wipers were turned on to the low pulse setting, and as the rain intensity increased the pulse frequency was increased one step at a time. when the pulse was at its fastest, and the g6 was proceeding up an incline and the cruise logic was in the process of deciding to shift geaars, the windshield wipers stopped enough to obscure all vision. this condition repeated itself until i changed the pulse setting to constant. then, again, but this time in west lafayette travelling from the main road north out of town up route 443 between route 43 and 52 on cruise at 35 mph in a rain with the wipers on fast pulse the wipers stopped and vision was obscured. sooo, the hill/incline does not have to be 'mountainous' or very long in duration. the dealer in vt suggested i should just put it on constant pulse to avoid the issue -- duh. the dealer in michigan attempted to replicate the condition but city traffic, etc. prohibited the 'experiment'. the gm customer relations contacts simply kept telling me that the condition 'did not exist' because it could not be replicated -- which was the same as calling me a liar. duh. yet the gm cr would not allow me to discuss the issue with anyone involved with the vehicle design or build -- because it could not be duplicated yet i duplicated the vt occurrence in illinois in different terrain. since the 'hill' in west lafayette is very typical of hills in most of the states in the usa it is likely that anyone driving in the conditions noted would experience the same result. yet, no one in gm will sit and discuss this at a functional level. when the wiper stops and no one can see out the front windshield, whether travelling at 50 or 35 mph the condition is very critical and a serious accident can occur. i have been trying to discuss this frequently since it occurred.

 Automobile purchased as new. rotors not vented properly and were replaced with brake pads at 32,200 miles. insisted that dealer/pontiac corporate handle under warranty. at 32,900 miles car stopped at light and did not advance when accelerator was depressed. the transmission required full replacement because the sprag blew up and was covered under power train warranty. will never lease or buy pontiac again. *tr

 I purchased a used 2007 pontiac g6 for my daughter in november 2008. since that time the car has shut off unexpectedly or not started on occasion. recently she has been experiencing difficulty in turning the steering wheel and the power steering fluid light is on. upon research we were informed that the g6 does not have a power steering pump and has an electrical engine. upon further research i have found that many owners of the pontiac g6 have complained of this problem to no avail. my daughter's safety is a concern and i want to know what gm has offered to its consumers to solve this issue. *tr

 Tl*the contact owns a 2007 pontiac g6. while driving less than 70 mph, the contact noticed that the transmission slipped when switching lanes. the vehicle would not accelerate when the accelerator pedal was depressed. the dealer made the necessary repairs. on a separate occasion, the steering wheel made a loud clunking noise when it was turned. the dealer repaired the steering column. while traveling less than 70 mph on another occasion, the engine made extremely loud noises, especially while idling. the failure mileage was unknown and current mileage is less than 10,000. updated 03-06-09 *bf the consumer also when the headlights were on,the turn signals would activate and the headlights would go off. updated 03/12/09. *jb
