Cruise control disengages and brake lights illuminate without pressing brake pedal and turn off when the brake pedal is pressed. i have researched and found reports of the same problems on the saturn aura and chevy malibu of the same year, and the pontiac g6 of 2005.
05/05/201230000
The brake lights come on when the pedal is not depressed and go off when it is depressed. this condition also affects the cruise control. this only happens occasionally, but it seems to be happening more since the first occurrence. this a very dangerous situation and there is no way of knowing when it is occurring.

Upon the purchase of a brand new pontiac g6 in 2008, i have had several problems from about the 5000 mile mark. it began with my tail lights staying on while driving, no matter what speed. when i apply the brakes, they would go off and come on while driving. a month later steering column started to knock when making turns, the dealership has regreased the shaft and the noise went away for a few weeks and has continued to make the noise. the dealer said it will not hurt anything and will not regrease it. all of these issues have been happening for 4 consecutive years. i have replaced several head lamps, once about every 2 months and wiring harness because they melt. the power steering started to go out in november of 2012 and several times since; it locks up and i am unable to drive it for a while and it just magically fixes itself. i had trouble putting my vehicle in park in january 2013 and my key would not come out of the ignition. i left it in for a few days and it came back out. yesterday, february 23, 2013 the airbag service light has come on. we have checked all fuses, and there seems to be none out. the vehicle has never been in any accident not even a dent on the vehicle. i have never recieved a recall for the vehicle either. maybe they are just not getting to me? *tr

The brake lights come on when the pedal is not depressed and go off when it is depressed. this condition also affects the cruise control. this only happens occasionally, but it seems to be happening more since the first occurrence. this a very dangerous situation and there is no way of knowing when it is occurring.

I would like to inform nhsta that my 2008 pontiac g6 had/has issues with the brake lights. the lights are illuminated while accelerating and turn off while braking. the issue was first brought to my attention when my brother was following me and asked why i was riding my brakes. he explained what he saw, and we figured out my brake lights were backward. the issue continued, with seemingly no pattern. at times they illuminated correctly and at others, not. i tested the lights often and speed also did not seem to be a factor. i took my car to a repair shop where i was charged $162.90 for a new brake switch that was not needed. upon finding the issue still in existence, i contacted the shop to request a refund, which i was ultimately denied. the repair shop stated they had never heard of such an issue with brake lights, even though they witnessed it themselves while my car was there for multiple days. upon finding no one who seemed to have an idea how to fix the issue, i found a video on youtube of a demonstration to fix the issue, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n7ra7mc_tlo. i took my car to a friend who followed the steps in the video. my brakes seem to be working ok at this point, but as the man in the video points out, the fix may only last for 8 or so months. please note that since

I had an issue with my low beam head lights going out over the last 12 months on my 2008 pontiac g6. i replaced the bulbs 3 times only to have them go out again after a couple of weeks, resulting in no low beam headlights.i called gm who notified me there was no recall notice for this issue and i needed to have a diagnosis performed by a gm dealership before they would evaluate the situation. i was told by sauers dealership that it was an issue with the low beam connectors melting and that i needed to have the connectors and bulbs replaced. i informed gm of this who then called the dealer and i was told since my car was out of warranty and this was the first occurrence of this problem they could not help me with this repair cost. i have seen many reports of this same issue on the internet and am concerned that gm is not recalling for this issue. i have made a couple of attempts to have gm reimburse me for the repair costs of $305.08 but they refuse and now will not respond to me. *tr

Brake lights engage and cruise control disengages at varying times. brake lights engages when accelerating. upon minor depression of the brake pedal, brake lights shut off, then re-engage as the pedal is depressed further. brake lights engage at both high and low speeds, as well as when the vehicle is parked and running.

Low beam headlight (driver side) goes out randomly. have replaced bulbs and it happens again a few days later. after a few more days it goes out again and then a few more days it comes back. i have removed headlight assembly and used electirc tape to hold wires together tightly but it still occurs. seems to be a common problem with g6s based on all the problems posted on the internet. last time they decided to go out was on the highway in a snow storm. definite safety issue.

The wiring in my headlight is either burning or shorting out my light bulb. there is the connector to attach the headlight to the car that is get hot enough to melt the plastic. it chooses when it wants to work and when i put in a new light bulb (i am aware not to touch the light bulb) it will work for about 2-3 weeks and then continue not to work. seeing as this is obviously a problem and friends of mine who also own the same car have the same problem i am wondering if this is not just a coincidence. this is becoming a huge pain in my rear!! *tr

The right headlight went out. it was replaced, and then 2 days later neither headlight worked. the auto option still ran my high-beams, my tail lights and my parking lights. then 1 week later when my auto option was on, nothing worked, no tail lights, no headlights, and no parking lights. when the lights are in the on position i get tail lights, and parking light, but still no headlights. i am being told it will be $140 to look at it and that this is not covered under my warranty. in searching online i see that multiple cars seem to have this defect in the lighting. it is my belief that this defect should go under a recall and gm needs to fix it at their expense. *tr

Due to poorly designed harness assembly with inferior materials, the headlight harness connector on the pontiac g6 corrodes and melts and the headlights won't work. gm should cover the repairs under warranty since this is a safety issue and the lights (primarily low beams) go on and off randomly, and standard bulb replacement does not solve the problem. there are many postings on the pontiac g6 owners forum that is an ongoing safety issue and owners should not be responsible for making repairs at their own expense. *tr

I have had my car for little over a year and over the past 6 months i have had problems with my headlights staying on/working. my fiance went to change the bulb and when he did he noticed that the wires were melted. apparently its getting so hot that the wires are melting and my headlights stop working. we have tried replacing the bulbs at least twice and they still will not work. this is happening on both sides and i'm afraid it might cause a fire. since the dealer doesn't have anything on record they will not fix it and the parts are so expensive that i can't afford to get it fixed. please help me with this problem. thanks! *tr

Right low beam quit working, replaced headlight, worked for a very short time. found wiring harness burnt at bulb. contacted dealer to replace harness, they said i had to buy the whole headlight assembly for $160.00. i feel this is a gm defect, and gm should place a recall on this issue. they have a bulletin on this issue, but want to sell you the whole assembly. bulletin # sb-10-08-42-001a. why can't we just get the harness? is replacing the whole assembly going to solve the issue? i have been pulled over 2 times over this issue. gm needs to pay for this. *tr

Brake lights illuminated when brakes not applied, turned off when brakes were applied (according to family member who was driving behind me). problem seemed to resolve itself, but has recurred several times over the past year. subsequent occurrences have been slightly different - brake lights illuminate when brakes not applied, then turn off briefly and come back on when brake pedal is depressed. when brake pedal is released, brake lights turn off for ~5-10 seconds before coming back on. occurred again this morning - attempted to resolve by disconnecting negative battery terminal and reconnecting after ~15 minutes to see if the system would reset itself, but it did not. incidents seem random - have not been able to identify a common thread (such as hard braking, vehicle maintenance activities, weather, other lighting issues, etc). *tr

The first time i noticed the problem i was being followed by a family member and they noticed the brake lights remaining on as i was driving down the road. it happens all the time now. i can be driving from 20mph to 70+mph down the road and the brake lights will illuminate and remain on without me using the brake pedal. a light touch to the brakes will turn them off, but just for a second. i have been rear-ended once in the last year; however, i am not sure if this issue has something to do with that accident. i am afraid this issue could cause other errors and issues with in the vehicle or cause an accident. i have had a mechanic look at the car but he could not figure out what the problem was coming from. i have also asked the dealership and they could not give me a definitive answer on a solution either. from some internet research it appears to be a recurring problem with other pontiac g6 owners. *tr

The wire connection to the main headlight (on both sides) is fraying--leaving bare wire exposed. whenever i hit a bump, sometimes the headlight goes out. i thought it was a bad bulb, but when i went to replace it on one side i noticed exposed wire and a fraying connector. i checked the other side, and same problem.

I purchased my 2008 pontiac g6 in november 6, 2009. in the summer of 2010 my passenger side headlight went out. i didn't think anything of it because that happens from time to time. a month or so after replacing it, it went out again. after replacing the bulb 4 times i finally had a mechanic look at it who told me it was the low beam connector that has corroded and needs to be replaced. after replacing that part i didnt experience a bulb outage for 6 months or so. then one day when walking inside to my home i noticed the runner lights on the front headlights were lit and i could not shut them off. it ended up draining my battery and simultaneously made the passenger side headlight not work again. i took it to the dealership who fixed the runner light issue but told me in order to fix my headlight issue i would need to purchase a new headlight assembly because it smelled burnt. after going back in forth with them in trying to get them to acknowledge an electrical issue with the car i took the car home with one headlight until a few days later the driver side headlight went out. my high beams work but that is unacceptable to use around traffic. both low beam headlight bulbs are good but the connectors keep melting and corroding and the dealership will not acknowledge that the issue is bigger than buying headlight assemblys. i also now have some internal dash and control panel lights not working and those also stopped the same time as everything else.

My 2008 pontiac g6's brake lights are intermittently staying on when i am not pushing on the brake and then they goes off when i am pushing on the brake. i see that there was a recall on the 2005 and 2006 models but not the 2008. this is a danger to me. i believe that this should be a recall and/or that gm should pay to have this problem fixed before it causes a wreck. also my cruise control works only part of the time, which may be related. *tr

The low beams on my 2008 pontiac g tend to burn out every month. i purchased the car in 2008 and as of jan 2012 i made my first replacement. then again in february. now again in march. it has become a pain and costly. first off to get to the light itself is a heck of a hassle than to spend money on trying different brands have become costly.

The passenger side headlight will not come on, we have yet to replace the headlight since my husband purchased the vehicle in may of 2009. we went to replace the bulb and it worked for a day or two. when we went to replace it yet again we noticed that the socket that the headlight goes into was melted. when we went in to the auto parts store to ask what to do we were informed that this was a common issues in a lot of gm vehicles.

Brake lights stay on,saw online alot of people having this problem, they said gm had a recall on some older models but my daughters is a 2009,they sugested putting dialectric grease on the body controle module and i did this and it fixed the problem for 2 days so the n iwent t6o the deaqler and bought a pedal position sensor and replaced that, that workeede for about 3 days this is a gm defect and a serious safety issue one person online said they had theirs (ppsensor) replaced at the dealer 6 times, it's about a 120 dollar job, thats not fair it;s a defect, someone will and probably has been killed because of this defect,i am replaceing my daughters tomorrow if it does it again i will take it to the dealer and pay 120.00 for them to replace it,but a 2008 ? just out of warrentee ? its a defect and a big safety issue, god i hope nothing happens to her when it goes out the next time, people don't know when she's brakeing because they stay on

My right headlight failed in october. while fixing it though it seemed ok, replaced it anyways. it failed again in november. after checking on the internet noticed a lot of people complaining about the electrical connector to the headlight melting and failing. checked and that was my problem. it appears to be a common pontiac g6 problem. checked with pontiac and no recalls on it. safety issue, besides no headlight could possible cause fire.

Low beam / daytime running light on driver's side inoperative due to faulty - badly corroded socket and wiring connections. gm has a technical service bulletin on this issue and sells replacement plugs with wire ends as this is a common problem across all vehicles built by gm. a 3 year old vehicle should not have safety issues such as inop headlights / they refuse to cover the repairs and costs. a recall needs to be issued before a fatality occurs.

While driving my pontiac g6, the vehicle behind me pulled up aside my vehicle, informing me that my brake lights were not working properly. while driving, my brake lights were actually on; and while braking, my brake lights would go off. i was almost 800 miles away from home and was very close to being part of a multi-car pile up. this is a very serious safety issue and a recall should be issued. i also know another person who is having the same exact problem.

I own a 2008 pontiac g6, i have been experiencing problems with my brake lights. the brake lights will come on automatically withought touching the brakes. when i step on the brake, they shut off only to come back on in a short time. the cruise control is also affected by this. cruise control will shut off when brake lights are on. i had changed the brake switch thinking this would fix the problem. it did nothing. i then brought it in and had it calibrated. this seemed to fix it, however, now the brake lights continuly stay on without touching the brake. my traction light also stays on and will not shut off when pressing the traction button. i strongly suggest something be done by gm to help with this issue. i have read many stories like my own about the same thing and nothing is being done. this is a huge safety issue in that drivers behind you may not be aware that you are breaking and could cause a crash.

My brake lights illuminate after i start the car. i do not have the brake pedal depressed. most of the time, when i depress the brake pedal the brake lights turn off. the lights will stay off for a few seconds after i release the brake pedal then they will turn back on, again without pressing the brake pedal. i notice this at night with the headlights on (i can see the reflection of the brake lights on the road behind me). after this occured most recently, i stopped the vehicle and turned off all exterior lights and this issue continued to occur. i have taken the vehicle to the dealer twice for repair and they claimed that they could not replicate the issue. however, this happens every time i drive the vehicle at night, which is at least four times per week.

My 2008 pontial g6 cruise control works inermittently for the past year. i use it when it works and keep it off when it does not want to engage. in the past months, my brake lights stay on when the brakes are not engaged; once i engage the brakes, the lights go out completely. this issue is intermittent as well.

Tl-the contact owns a 2008 pontiac g6. when pressure was applied to the brake pedal the brake lights would not illuminate until pressure was released from that pedal. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer on 5 separate occasions they were unable to diagnose the failure the first 4 times. while at the authorized dealer for the fifth time the vehicle was repaired under an unknown technical service bulletin. the failure has not since recurred. while driving at approximately 40 mph the steering wheel became very stiff and a power steering light illuminated on the dashboard. after jerking on the steering wheel the wheel began to operate as normal. the vehicle was not taken to have the vehicle examined for the cause of failure and was not repaired. the failure mileage was 23,000 and the current mileage was 44,000. sm.

2008 pontiac g6 sedan. brake lights are stuck on until brake pedal is depressed, then lights go off momentarily and come back on. other motorists following cannot determine whether or not i am actually braking which is obviously dangerous. this failure has yet to cease and is a constant problem as it is my only vehicle to get to and from work. the vehicle was taken to the certified dealership under warranty and the problem has been refused to be covered under warranty. *tr
09/15/2009340001
On 2/17/09, gm recalled 8,012 2005-2006 pontiac g6 vehicles, because the brake lamps would not operate properly due to corrosion in a wiring connector. symptoms include brake lamps illuminating when brake pedal is not depressed, brake lamps failing to illuminate when brake pedal is depressed, cruise control will not engage and greater than normal brake force is required to shift vehicle out of park. i own a 2008 pontiac g6 which is not included in this recall, however, my vehicle is experiencing the exact problems as described in the recall notice. i still have the factory warranty but the dealer cannot find the cause of the problem, they replaced the brake sensor which did not solve the problem and they do not believe it is related to this recall as they have found no corrosion in the wiring connector. i am therefore requesting that nhtsa require gm to validate the cause and expand the recall to other years. as noted in the recall notice, brake lamps that are not operating properly may not warn a driver in a following vehicle of the braking status and could lead to a crash without prior warning. this is a serious safety issue and i find it unacceptable that gm would not recall any vehicle with this problem and determine other causes. thank you. *tr

2008 pontiac g6. the brackets which hold the headlights to the car are insufficient. the headlights bounce, shake, and wobble over bumps in the road causing repeated premature headlamp bulb failure and safety hazard for visibility reasons especially at highway speeds. bulbs have blown out 2 times since purchased as new in septmeber of 2008. dealer states there is no known fix for headlight problem. in addition, the driver's side window on the sedan model does not stay entirely closed....pushing the window up button, the window moves 1/4 after closing. *tr
