Cruise control disengages and brake lights illuminate without pressing brake pedal and turn off when the brake pedal is pressed. i have researched and found reports of the same problems on the saturn aura and chevy malibu of the same year, and the pontiac g6 of 2005.

Starting in 09 when i purchased this car i've had problems and still to the current date (2/26/2013) i've had to replace the tie rods multiple times which result in new brakes and tires, which aren't cheap for this car! i recently went in today to get my cat converter replaced because the sensor was melting oh and again they tell me i need new brakes(shocker)-this is a saftey issue none the less. i've spent about 7 grand in repairs all for the car to just be ok to drive for the time being. i'm not sure why this car was never recalled because it's a piece of junk! i have saved all the receipts from the dealership and it's astronomical how many times i've had to bring it in, let's just say the guys at the shop all know me by name..

I would like to inform nhsta that my 2008 pontiac g6 had/has issues with the brake lights. the lights are illuminated while accelerating and turn off while braking. the issue was first brought to my attention when my brother was following me and asked why i was riding my brakes. he explained what he saw, and we figured out my brake lights were backward. the issue continued, with seemingly no pattern. at times they illuminated correctly and at others, not. i tested the lights often and speed also did not seem to be a factor. i took my car to a repair shop where i was charged $162.90 for a new brake switch that was not needed. upon finding the issue still in existence, i contacted the shop to request a refund, which i was ultimately denied. the repair shop stated they had never heard of such an issue with brake lights, even though they witnessed it themselves while my car was there for multiple days. upon finding no one who seemed to have an idea how to fix the issue, i found a video on youtube of a demonstration to fix the issue, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n7ra7mc_tlo. i took my car to a friend who followed the steps in the video. my brakes seem to be working ok at this point, but as the man in the video points out, the fix may only last for 8 or so months. please note that since

Brake lights engage and cruise control disengages at varying times. brake lights engages when accelerating. upon minor depression of the brake pedal, brake lights shut off, then re-engage as the pedal is depressed further. brake lights engage at both high and low speeds, as well as when the vehicle is parked and running.

I noticed the cruise control going off on its own agenda. i was told by another driver that the brake lights were coming on while traveling down the highway. had a dealer look into the problem and the switch was replaced. still does it with 56k miles on it. i am a mechanic and what a bad design. gm needs to step up a get the switch redesigned before somebody gets seriously hurt. *tr

Brake lights illuminated when brakes not applied, turned off when brakes were applied (according to family member who was driving behind me). problem seemed to resolve itself, but has recurred several times over the past year. subsequent occurrences have been slightly different - brake lights illuminate when brakes not applied, then turn off briefly and come back on when brake pedal is depressed. when brake pedal is released, brake lights turn off for ~5-10 seconds before coming back on. occurred again this morning - attempted to resolve by disconnecting negative battery terminal and reconnecting after ~15 minutes to see if the system would reset itself, but it did not. incidents seem random - have not been able to identify a common thread (such as hard braking, vehicle maintenance activities, weather, other lighting issues, etc). *tr

My 2008 pontial g6 cruise control works inermittently for the past year. i use it when it works and keep it off when it does not want to engage. in the past months, my brake lights stay on when the brakes are not engaged; once i engage the brakes, the lights go out completely. this issue is intermittent as well.

It started when i was having problems with my cruise control not turning on. i was then pulled over by a state policemen who explained that my brake lights were stuck on; he had me stop the car and re-start and he then followed me for another mile. again the brake lights stuck on. he escorted me to the nearest dealer and instructed me to leave the car to be fixed. i then scheduled an appt. with the dealer and after looking into the problem, they replaced the brake sensor. it worked out fine for 3 weeks-as of this afternoon the brake lights are now staying on again. the police officer told me that i was not allowed to drive the vehicle without the hazard lights if this continues; so how can we fix this brake problem? *tr

Brake lights stay on without the brakes being engaged. when you engage the brakes the lights go off. the cruise control is effected by this also. we have put dielectric lube on the switch as instructed by a certified gm tech. this works for a week or less. my research shows that the 2005/2006 models had a recall issued for this same issue.

My brake lights are staying on at all times or coming on and off intermittently. i see that there are manhy other complaints on this site and the web about this problem. i think this needs to be a recall issued by gm.

My brake lights keep lighting up as i am driving down the road. when i press the brake pedal the brake lights go out. this is a safety concern that should be addressed by the manufacturer. on cold days my windshield wipers will just quit working. i have had this into the gm shop two times and they say there is nothing wrong with the windshield wipers.

Brake lights come on and off intermittenly. brought vehicle in for service and brake switch was replaced.
05/01/201134000
My brake lights illuminate after i start the car. i do not have the brake pedal depressed. most of the time, when i depress the brake pedal the brake lights turn off. the lights will stay off for a few seconds after i release the brake pedal then they will turn back on, again without pressing the brake pedal. i notice this at night with the headlights on (i can see the reflection of the brake lights on the road behind me). after this occured most recently, i stopped the vehicle and turned off all exterior lights and this issue continued to occur. i have taken the vehicle to the dealer twice for repair and they claimed that they could not replicate the issue. however, this happens every time i drive the vehicle at night, which is at least four times per week.

Warped front rotors causing vibrations in steering column. gm service center resurfaced the rotors for the first occurrence (approx. 6mo. ago). the issue has since returned and the rotors will need to be turned or replaced again. multiple sites have documented that the rotors used on the pontiac g6's are inadequate for its size/weight.

Squeaking brakes on our 2008 pontiac g6 squeaks often bought car new had back to dealer 5 times. they claim not unusual for g6 problem, and said they replaced pads & turned rotors,(do not believe since only in shop 45 min), and claim they cannot duplicate problem. says it caused by dirt. no way!!!! lots of same complaint on very same problems from others. this should be seriously looked at!!!! *tr

At random points in time my pontiac g6 will not brake properly. when you push the pedal the pedal will go down to the floor and then come back up. when it comes back up it normally will be functional. the problem is it takes a few seconds for my brakes to become functional which has almost resulted in a few accidents. the problem only happens about 1 a week or 1 time every 2 weeks. when it happens whoever is driving is scarred out of their mind. my parents do not even want me driving this vehicle because it has a definate safety issue. i have contacted the dealership numerous times regarding the breaks. they said the first time that there was an abnormal amount of break dust. after that they could not duplicate the problem so they will not repair it. i have contacted the pontiac rep and they have been investigating the problem for a little over a month now with no repairs made. in the mean time i am driving an unsafe car, hoping that i don't hurt my self let along any one else. my car in the mean time always squeals when you break. my car is a 2008 g6 and just turned 10,000 miles. i should not be having issues this soon. *tr

2008 pontiac g6 has issues with possible defects. *nj the consumer stated while driving 40 mph, the vehicle wandered. at 60 mph, the wandering increased and constant corrections had to be made to prevent an accident. the consumer also stated the brake pedal was too high and too far from the gas pedal. the consumer stated his foot did not come to rest evenly on the brake pedal, rather his foot came to rest unevenly on the pedal. the steering was inadequate. when the ratio between the steering wheel and the front driving suspension was too large, so at times of an emergency when a quick turn of the wheel is necessary to avoid a collision, such response is not available due to the defective construction of the vehicle. the response to the steering wheel was sluggish. the steering wheel did not turn with ease, but required excessive turning and excessive strength. the sunvisor extended too far down which impaired the consumers visibility. *jb
