| Had all window mechanisms replaced after enduring a wonderful garbage bag cover treatment for window beauty enhancement last winter 2007-08. found my ignition refuses to start w/ 1 key. i started noticing the smell of antifreeze. took to my mechanic of 22 years. thought it was a crack in the actual container which houses antifreeze. this was replaced. nope. still leaking. car never indicated on panel that it was above temp & overheated, stayed within the normal range. the car never once overheated. mechanic couldn't find the problem. said it was a faulty computer... indicates, tires need checking, flashing lights, abs off/on...which by the way was causing me to not have my car pass inspection to add insult to injury!! found i was all of a sudden replacing antifreeze by the gallons. was still paying off mechanic from previous issues. don't ask, while trying to figure out the antifreeze problem! brought car in to have radiator checked by friends mechanic, fluid was literally pouring out of bottom of car. $1600. later!! head gasket set,waterpump,serpentine belt, radiator hoses, thermostat & gaskets, crossoverpipes, airfilter...now? 1 1/2 months later? well hey.guess what? riding merrily to work last sat. car stalled all the way...& yipee another visit, another mere 900. bag of shells consisting of crank shaft, bearings. can you believe it? i don't have it!!.....i thought this guy was putting me on...i've lost work since i'm 45 min. away. i've spoken to pontiac several times. they want nothing to do with this. act dumb- the american way...weird, i've read more complaints about this issue, i'm surprised you guys don't demand some resolution for consumers. what gives? it's so incredibly obvious this is a real solid complaint about engine defect with all the evidence to back it up!! i think it was minnisota or missouri that consumers actually won a class action suit against pontiac for these specific complaints. namely head gasket, engine related issues.. *tr | |||

| The manifold intake failed and the entire set had to be replaced at $808.63. the service garage that did the repair and the pontiac dealerships that i contacted said many grand ams had been brought in recently with the same problem. in fact, the dealerships had a waiting list for the repair work because the parts were on back order (since so many had to be replaced). the dealerships stated that a recall might be done in the near future because they felt the parts were defective.*ak | |||

| I have had issues with the roters raido replaced 2 times, the doors bubble, many issues to write. the car is no longer under warrenty, how ever it was my under standing thet the coolent system was covered for 150,00, the intake gasket needs replaceing the car has been at the dealership for almost 2 weeks , couldnt find the part. this issue is out of pocket 800.00. very dissatified with gm, no efforts to give a car to use, dealer will charge 20.00 a day, who can afford that when 800.00 has to be paid to get the car running again. because the car is no longer under warrenty, the customer is out of luck for any king of help. i will suggest when asked not to buy a pontiac, or gm very disapointed.*ak | |||

| Low coolant light on dashboard came on. consumer added dex special coolant twice, approximately a half gallon of 50% water/50% coolant. previously, every time 3,000 mile oil change indicator light came on, consumer noticed that coolant level was low. this time, consumer took vehicle to dealership , and found out that coolant was getting into oil, causing oil to be a milky color. *note: consumer was told it could possibly be caused by a defective head gasket or manifold intake. dealership is in possession of vehicle.*ak consumer states so far the newly installed upper and lower gaskets are holding, consumer states he has spoken to 3 independent mechanics who state that the problem is probably with the manifold intake gaskets and not the head gasket, these three people indicated that the failure was due to improper torque of defective gaskets. *slc | |||

| Power steering pump- a few weeks after i bought my car i noticed a cavitating noise coming from the pump. the dealership found the pump to be defective and replaced it with a new one. no more problems since. intake gasket- i could smell oil burning when i was stopped, and noticed oil puddles on the engine. the dealership found the intake gasket leaking. they gasket was replaced. at this present time, i can still smell oil burning and have since returned the car to the dealership. they are looking further into the problem. *ak | |||

| In approximately march of 2000 the vehicle first stalled while driving in city traffic going approximately 35 mph. was able to restart car and proceeded to dealer service dept. to have car checked out. they proceeded to install a breather valve they felt was faulty. approximately 3-4 days later, the vehicle stalled again. on the way to the dealer it stalled 3 more times in a matter of 2 miles. they diagnosed the problem as being a faulty fuel pump. today, august 17, 2000 the vehicle stalled again as i pulled into our driveway after having driven 300 miles. experienced exact same symptoms as the first time the pump failed. will be contacting dealer first thing friday a.m. to confirm problem. of course, vehicle is no longer under warranty but will demand to be repaired at no charge. | |||

| I have owned this car for just under 4 years and have spent the last 2.5 in and out of the service dept. with it. i've had the brake rotors replaced 3 times, every year, almost to the day. i have also just had the fuel pump replaced 2 times and discovered a leak in my intake manifold with only 41k miles on the vehicle. it has been a safety hazard at times and left me stranded once. | |||

| Lower intake was just fixed 01/01/2002. lower intake has to be replaced again 05/05/2003. lower intake has been changed to be stronger. the lower intake was faulty. i should not be made to pay for it again. the first charge was $1032 and i am again being charged $1306. i should not have to pay again for the same problem. i have exceed the limited warranty of one year or 12,000 miles. the lower intake is designed to last almost the life of the car. the car is a 99 pont grand am. i purchased it in june 2000. i had the car 2 years and 8 months and i am still making payments on it. this is unfair that i should have to pay for repairs again. also i understand that recalls were done for the steering and body structure. i never got any notices about any recalls. if i had not gone to your web site, i would not have known. how do i get my car repaired without charge? also the alternator was replaced 07/02/2002 for $456 and the alternator had to be replaced again 03/17/03 which i was not charged for. i purchased a car with a lot of defects and should not have to pay. i will get rid of this car. *jb | |||

| Biggest problem - car is brand new, 2-1/2 weeks old and since about 100 miles, has been jerking off and while driving seeming as though fuel is being shut off and on while driving. took car to dealer to fix. told cannot fix and gm does not know what is wrong or how to fix. i was told car drivable and safe. that depends upon definition of safe. car is so bad it shuts off the cruse control after only being on 5 seconds. do not know if this car will stall while driving and could potentially become a safety problem. no one at dealership or gm seems to care about this problem. this is a new car! i really would like your help to make gm accountable for this problem in their new cars! steering - entire sterring column and wheel shakes when speeds of 60+ are reached. potential safety problem - driver headrest - cannot see blind spot or behind you if you turn to visually look to the left when merging into traffic or backing up. | |||

| In november 2004 my service engine soon light came on along with the trac off light. after flipping through my cars manual i decided to have it serviced with the dealer i originally bought it from. at only 60,000 miles they determined all of my fuel injectors went bad. i had to replace these and with labor charges it cost me nearly $1,000. approximately 11 months later, the same lights started to come on again. i immediately drove the car to dealer where they proceeded to explain that my fuel injectors went bad a second time. they first replacements were under warranty, i was required to pay labor. unfortunately this past week the lights for the fuel injectors came on again, and is currently getting diagnosed. this will be my third set of fuel injectors in 36 months. the only thing the dealer will do is replace the fuel injectors, but unfortunately they can't promise this won't happen again. i feel that the fuel injectors that were initially replaced, and the replacements after them have been faulty. *nm | |||

| I own a 1999 pontiac grand am with 80,000 miles, that i bought new. about a month ago (jan. 2006), the gas gauge failed. the needle dropped to empty (when the car tank was full). now i don't know how much gas is in my tank, or when it will run out leaving me stranded. i called the dealership and they said it would cost $400 to repair. i called pontiac division about them fixing it, and they said it was not on their recall list! i said i've owned cars for over 45 years and have never had a gas gauge fail! they said i should pay to have it repaired and if they ever decide to recall it, they would give me my money back. well, i'm a retired disabled veteran and can't afford $400 for a stupid gas gauge...so now i get it filled up every day! *jb | |||

| Starting approximately august, 2003 whenever the fuel tank reaches about 1/4 tank or less the fuel gauge will fluctuate between 0% and 100% fuel. this fluctuation is frequent and can be observed 2-5 times within 10 minutes when the fuel level is below 25%. various fuel system cleaners/treatments have been attempted with no change. this problem has left me without gas and stranded in very cold weather. in addition this has caused the vehicle to stall unexpectedly in heavy traffic posing a hazard to myself and passengers. the hazard is most apparent when traffic is slow or stopped and the engine runs out of fuel. the driver and/or passengers have had to exit and/or push the vehicle out of the traffic flow when traffic is very congested and hazardous. the type of driving that i do (mountainous terrain, cold weather) renders the trip meter very inaccurate when trying to estimate available fuel. thank you, michael muscato. *jb | |||

| Fuel gauge, at 1/4 tank level or when idling for more than 5 minutes at any level, gauge will chime, quickly point to full, then point to empty, repeat a few times, and settle between the 1/2 and 3/4 tank range. this fault has left me in a position of resetting my trip meter and filling the tank completely when fueling in order to travel no more than 300 miles per tank and risk running out of gas due to an unreliable fuel gauge. this problem began in may 2002.*ak | |||
