Recently we experienced a very strong fuel smell in the passenger compartment after driving our car. when we opened the hood, it appeared that fuel was leaking from a part all over the hot engine. we got it to the dealership who diagnosed the problem as the fuel pressure regulator leaking. the fuel pressure regulator was replaced and there does not appear to be any fuel leaking at this point. our mechanic stated that the slightest spark in the engine could have started a fire. cost of repair: $196.19. *tr

My 2003 grand am suffered a failure of it's fuel pump on feb. of 2005 during a trip to the bay area. i was fueling up at a willits ca. gas station on a friday afternoon . i filled up my gas tank and then attempted to start the pontiac. it wouldn't start. i was told by the mechanic who looked at my car and who made the subsequent repair that it was due to a manufacture defect. i had just filled up and my tank was at one quarter full prior to this and when i attempted to re-start the vehicle, i could not get the motor to turn-over and start. fortunately for me the repair shop was right next door to the gas station and so the car was looked at and diagnosed almost immediately by the mechanic. i was subjected to having to wait for the repair since it occurred on a friday and the mechanic did not work on weekends and plus he had to wait for the part to be shipped from a ukiah chevrolet dealership. this put a strain on my travel plans however the mechanic was kind enough to loan me his wife's car for i had to make my trip because i was picking up my son at u.c. davis and he was coming home to celebrate his birthday with us,his family. i was given the car back with the new fuel pump the following friday. i understand that there is a defect on this pontiac grand am also concerning the fuel gauge. it is not accurate. i seek remedy to the effect of total reimbursement of said repair bill of 850.00 dollars. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2003 pontiac grand am. the contact stated that the rotors on the vehicle at the time of purchase were completely worn. the dealer replaced the rotors, but would not replace the brake pads or the bearing. the hub bearing on the driver side needed to be replaced. while driving 50 mph, the fuel pump failed and was replaced by the dealer. the fuel filter was the initial cause of the fuel pump failure, but it was not replaced. the current mileage was approximately 57,000 and failure mileage was 53,512.

In october 2006 the car would not start. it was towed to my mechanic. he replaced the fuel pump. also, he told me that the security switch had been triggered so it stalled the engine. if it happened again i was supposed to turn the car to the on position and wait 10 minutes then start it. the car worked until april 3, 2007. the same poroblem recurred. the mechanic replacedd the starter, but couldn't find anythingelse wrong. now i have to turn to the on position and wait for the fuel pump to engage then start it. this only worked about half the time. the other half i have to put it in neutral then start it. this was a safety concern because i never knew when i will be stgranded. *ak

My name is william watts, i have a 2003 grand am, i recently came back from a funeral in mississippi going back to st. louis mo, 3/4 of the way my car stopped, after 3 hours of waiting it was determined that my fuel pump had went out, how can a car 2 years old have a fuel pump go out, i also have friends that also say there security system is causing there fuel pumps to shut-down, why does these things happen to a car that is no older than two years, please investigate and add to your recall list, i had to get my car towed 113 miles, and paid $560 to have fuel pump replaced, i do not feel this is right, i feel that a car should last over 5 years before it breaks down
