I drive a 2001 pontiac grand prix & in august of 2003, my service engine soon light came on..i took it to a dealer, faulkner pontiac, in trevose, pa who stated there were no leaks found & reprogrammed pcm with updated calibration. then in mid february 2004, my service engine soon light came on again. my mechanic said it may be an emissions related problem & to take it to my dealer, in case it will be covered under the emissions warranty. (80,000 miles) i am presently at 44,000 miles. the light was coming off & on and on wed. march 17, 2004, i took my car to fairway automotive group, jenkintown, pa. they said after running a diagnostic, found: diag scan found po440 performed smoke out test found fuel tank leak! they said my car could have exploded or caught on fire! and this is not a recall? i contacted gm monday march 22, 2004 to no avail, to my satisfaction. i feel i could have been driving a dangerous vehicle for the last few months, or even since february & i'm very concerned about this fuel tank leak. of course i had it fixed by fairway automotive group, about $370.00 later & feel this should be a recall by gm. your help is apreciated. thank you dona. *ak

I own a 2001 pontiac grand prix and maintain my car on a regular basis. yesterday, after returning from a lunch trip during my work day, i parked my car in my office parking lot and a few minutes later i was paged telling me that my car was on fire. i have checked online to see if other 2001 pontiac grand prix owners had a similar problem - and there are. however, the only recall that exists (not by gm) is by delphi - who manufactured the fuel pressure regulator - which i'm told the fuel could leak and result in a fire. i have contacted gm and they told me there were no recalls. i believe this fire was caused by a gm product liability. *tr

Vehicle was purchased on 10/8/2001, according to records- brand new vehicle had under 40 miles. on jan 15th 2002 i was driving on freeway going 60 mph and the vehicle (died) stopped with no warning signs of its failure. police officer assisted me to the shoulder i then waited for tow truck. car was towed to huling bros their tech's found that there was no fuel pressure and pump was not working they replaced the fuel tank module. after the vehicle was fixed according to the tech prior to me picking up the vehicle the tech's test drove the vehicle and the vehicle ran fine. i was called to come and picked the vehicle up in the service center of huiling bros. i drove just under a mile and again the vehicle shut off (died) in the middle of an intersection. there were no signs of warning from the car. i was towed back to huling bro service station. tech's verified it was the fuel pump again the connector to the top of the fuel pump had to be fixed again. *jb

My daughter returned home after a five minute drive and parked our 2001 grand prix gt in our driveway. 15 minutes later the vehicle had smoke coming out from under the hood. i tried to open the hood but the latch must have melted. by the time the fire dept came out and pried open the hood the whole engine compartment was engulfed in flames. they put the fire out but it was to late, the car was subsequently totaled by our insurance company. i had a gm investigator come out to see the car and he took many photos. i kept this car in immaculate condition. always hand washed and waxed it. all repairs done at the dealer. at 97,000 miles the car looked and ran like new. after talking to others and doing some research it appears this fire may be due to a fuel leak involving the fuel rail. the last repair at the dealer involved replacement of intake manifold gaskets in may of 2007, which are located around the fuel rail. gm has not gotten back to me regarding this investigation. this car had the gm 3800 series ii v6 engine on the odi investigation ea07-008. something should be done soon before some one loses their life, home, etc. *tr
