While traveling approximately 20 mph, and making a left turn in traffic, the engine lost power and shut off unexpectedly, all electrical functions continued to operate, this problem occurred approximately six more times intermittently while traveling at various speeds, dealership has examined the vehicle three times, and could not reproduce the problem.*ak consumer also stated the alternator makes a loud humming noise through the radio, there is a rattle noise from the left wheel /suspension area, and there is a hole in the rear interior of the door panel, the front passenger seat has a ripple in the leather.*slc
SUSPENSION - FRONT

I have found both sides of the front suspension anti roll bar on my 2002 grand prix gtp to have cracks at the pinch weld, where the links attach. on the lhs is it pretty well cracked all the way through, the rhs is cracked approx 50% of the way through. it appears the road salt and corrosion is getting in between the pinch weld and splitting the bar in two. this would not be a catastrophic loss of control but would go from firm cornering to wishy washy. i am a professional technician by trade and do my own work on my pov's. i can supply pictures if needed. the car has about 77000 miles on it at the time. i think the maufacturer also needs to adddress the oil pan leaks as well. they can leak and drain right on to the exhaust. again this was found by a routine inspection and verified by buffing it off with a buffing wheel.

SUSPENSION - FRONT - CONTROL ARM - LOWER BALL JOINT

Dealership found passenger side front wheel bearing failure. driver side front wheel bearing at mechanical wear limit. both were replaced, as well as transmission main seals from age/wear/leakage and front passenger side lower ball joint. one month prior to this repair, the vehicle transmission shut down without warning and no electrical warning or lights while being driven. because related other parts were repaired previosly and reported defective via this system on odi id 10107847 and 10148428 and during this repair reported repair to pontiac, the other associated parts were in specification. one lower passenger side ball joint was at the mechanical limit due to bad local roads on the passenger side edge of road/potholes and public utility access patches. worn hubs (for the second time here, listen up) are available for inspection if needed. both times this occurred, we noticed the failures either audibly (humming) or during state inspection, or both, and in all cases, the repair conditions were set by the dealership during the inspection phase. at no time during the inspection were apoligies offered, or better parts engineered, to prevent this from re-occurring. just told that this was a common problem on this vehicle, good thing we caught it before we caused an accident (we?) and we cannot offer a better part to fix this problem permanently. they should be held accountable for the materials used to produce and investigate manufactured items for compliance with material(s) engineering and specification, as well as wear testing data that may have been improperly reported to present a favorable outcome of test failure anaylsis. *jb
SUSPENSION - FRONT - HUB

My pontiac gran prix began making loud whaling noises, it began dragging and burning a large amount of fuel. i also have several other owners of the same vehicle with the same problem. i was told that i have a problem with the front hub bearing assembly. this will cost me $700.00 .there should be a recall on this because that has happened to all of these same cars and they are only 2 years old.i was informed by a mechanic that the parts are made of aluminun. this is very dangerous. *jb
SUSPENSION - FRONT - MACPHERSON STRUT
11/17/200584000110/31/2001
This is an update to complaint 10107847. please include the following information with the previous summary. in addition to the parts previously mentioned, at approximately 84,000 miles, the front struts and their associated mounts required replacement due to excessive wear. indications were first noticed from a light tapping from the strut mount on passenger side, followed by the drivers side. removal and inspection of the struts and mounts revealed that the strut mounts had literally melted around the metal top bushing at the point of attachment of the vulcanized rubber. although it deformed and separated from the rubber, the mount provisions retained the parts sufficiently enough to prevent inadvertent release or other abnomalies except for the tapping sound it made. the strut assemblies lost their dampening on the upstroke side and were weak on the down or compression side (typical strut). *jb
SUSPENSION - FRONT - WHEEL BEARING

I have recently experienced two major defects with my 2002 pontiac grand prix gtp. first, i have had both my driver and passenger side front wheel bearings to go out. these are not cheap to replace. the cost per bearing is about $90 plus labor. then, my brake lights have stopped working. after looking at other complaints on the web, i have found that i my vehicle will require a multifunction switch which is costly as well. as far as the bearings go, there is a strong possibility that i will have to replace those again in the near future. my opinion is that if gm is aware of these defects in their product , they should be taking more steps to satisfy their customers as we have put faith in their company and help keep them in business with sales and our tax dollars (bailout). i appeal to gm to recall the parts that are not up to standard on their cars. *tr
