Another gxp transmission issue... there seems to be a very high number of issues w/the gxp transmissions considering how few they sell since it's the top of the line version w/the v8 engine. seems like they tried to use the transmission from the lower models w/the v6 engines & it's not holding up to the engine power. when is there finally going to be a recall for the design issue/poor quality? i had the dealership service the transmission at ~50k miles as preventative maintenance & it was running fine at the time. i don't spend a lot of time at high speeds on the highway & don't drive it hard, but the transmission failed after ~72,200 miles. early feb 2013, the transmission started slipping for a fraction of a second ~3rd to 4th. brought it to the dealership, but the technician did not notice anything unusual during the test drive & said to bring it back if it got worse. on 2/26/13 i drove it back to the dealership because the transmission slipping was getting worse & it also started making a noise. the night i dropped it off, the service rep watched me put it in reverse & drive to move the car, but it wasn't making any noise or slipping at that time. i agreed to leave it overnight so they could see if it made noise when it was cold in the morning. the next day, he called me to say the transmission doesn't work at all anymore & needs to be replaced at a cost of $3,349. fortunately it didn't fail as i was pulling out on the busy crossroads & take on my way to work or it could've been a serious problem.

I was on my way to work when my car just stopped moving. i was barely able to get off of the road without being hit by the car behind me. i had it towed to the chevrolet dealership. the car was still under warranty so the transmission was replaced. however, less than 10,000 miles later the 'new' transmission is slipping badly. i can't afford the $2800 plus labor to have the transmission replaced again so i guess i will just have to hope that i don't get ran over when the transmission goes out again. after researching this car i have found that transmission failure is common. why is this not considered a danger not only to the people in the car but to the other people on the road that the car could stall in front of? *tr

Vehicle had symptoms of transmission problems. dealership could not find any, serviced it with a transmission flush since did not know what else to do. the car was shifting roughly at highway speed. could not find anything wrong with transmission, said it was likely the displacement on demand, and shifting between 4cyl and 8 cyl. it is now shifting hard, not each time driven, but most times. i own 2 of these cars and the transmission on the 2006 just completely failed, and i recognize now that the problem is the transmission, not the dod. i see far too many complaints with the particular transmission croaking way before it should. i am afraid this 2007 is going to require the same fix, a factory rebuilt transmission, which is 3,000.00. please, please force a recall as these transmissions should not be failing at the rate they are. *tr

2007 pontiac grand prix gxp transmission failure at 96,000 miles (and 6 months out of warranty). stopped at traffic light when i pressed the accelerator to go and heard a clunk and had no forward gears in automatic. did have tapshift gears and reverse, though forward gears slipped. took it to a local dealer (we were out of town) and told the transmission had failed. had to have the transmission rebuilt at a cost of $3600. plus car rental and hotel to drive home and return to pick up the car when it was repaired. second gm transmission failure i've experience in less than two years with the previous one on a chevrolet trailblazer.

I have a 2007 pontiac grand prix gxp w/5.3l v8. currently has 45,000 miles just recently started having issues with the transmission. from a dead stop trans will slip, than slam into gear, also shutters between 1-2, and sometimes from 3-4. car does currently have powertrain warranty that i purchased with car. so car will be going in for repair under warranty (i hope) after reading online in a gm owner forum found out about the current investigation with gm transmission failures would really like to see a recall come of this. because seems that this is a very common issue.. it will leave you stranded without warning, and may break in the middle of traffic causing a dangerous situation to be in. it seems to be too much for a transmission that was designed to be mated to a v6 engine. not to be mated to a 5..3l v8.

Drive gear won't engage from a stop. started vehicle and it stalled. reverse out of parking spot and put in drive to leave parking lot. went to accelerate from a stop and engine revved and would not move like it was in neutral. had to place vehicle in 1st gear to move up through 3rd and then put in drive after getting up to speed. problem started without warning and mileage is only at 84,400. never had a gm vehicle with this type of issue before and i have only owned gm. very disappointed.

Went to drive my vehicle from in front of my house and discovered by accident, that i could shift my car into reverse without depressing the brake pedal or pushing in on the pawl button on the shifter. i had gotten a shirtsleeve hung up on the shifter and pulled my arm back and the car started into reverse on its own. this is a constant condition, and i have not made contact with a dealer, though based on my past experiences with gm dealerships, they won't fix it, or will blame me for the condition. this is why i am submitting this report first.

2007 grand prix gxp car kept triggering engine light and turned out to be codes p0700 and p0843. 135k transmission was rebuilt because reverse had gone. now @ 193k trans is back to the codes and now slipping. ive had my 99 grand prix gtp for 8 years and never had to dump a trans into it or motor into it and its at 176k miles running hard. the trans for this vehicle needs to be redone.

Update on 10192218 and 10192426. 2007 grand prix gxp dealer attempted repair transmission. per gms tech support, dealer pulled transmission, replaced final drive gears , and bearings. problem not resolved. dealer then replaced transmission, but with gm re-manufacturedpart. also, dealer stated they could not obtain a brand new transmission for any repair because the factory saved new transmissions for the production line vehicles. 15 days at dealer. and was told car ready for pick-up. drove the car around the parking lot and noticed gear shift did not lock into place in any gear but manual. reverse, didn't work, and transmission shifted itself into neutral going down an incline. brought vehicle immediately back to dealer, who had to replace both front bridgestone tires due to out of round and irregular wear. latest set of tires were also defective, ordered two new bridgestone's under warranty. second set of replacement tires did not help. dealer told me there was nothing wrong with the replacement transmission, despite drive line shuddering. dealer stated operated as designed. *ak

Follow-up on odi #'s: 10191952 and10192426 repair attempt three on automatic transmission. as of midnight tonight, this makes 15 consecutive days the vehicle has been at the dealer for repair of the transmission. dealer called today, stating vehicle is repaired. they replaced the transmission with a re-manufactured transmission they ordered from gm. so, i've got a brand new 2007 grand prix gxp with 3,200 miles on the odometer, with a used transmission from gm. dealer insisted vehicle had been taken for several test-drives today, and it is in like new condition. upon taking the car for a test drive, myself, i noticed that the gearshift was loose, and did not lock into place, as it had before, and as it was designed to do. any slight pressure or bump in the road caused this new(????) transmission to shift into neutral, without control input from driver. basically, there were no detent stops for the gear indicator, and it freely moved between drive, neutral and reverse! dealer stated they would once again attempt to repair. dealer did not close-out the service ticket, so they are making this appear as one repair attempt, even though they have: 1. ignored initial complaint, 2. attempted to repair the original transmission, 3. failing that, they ordered a used, re-manufactured transmission from gm, which has either been installed incorrectly, or is defective from the start. even if the vehicle can be repaired, it now has a used, dysfunctional and dangerous transmission, and the car is seriously de-valued. i am filing a complaint with gm, and thoroughly plan on a vigorous pursuit of my rights under the florida lemon law.

Update regarding original odi case number: 10191952. car has now been in service for ten days. dealer stated gm aware of a potential defect in the transmission, in the final drive gear(s). dealer replaced two gears and a bearing in the transmission. pursuant to discussion with dealer representative today, repair did not correct problem. transmission is now making clanking noise at various speeds instead of just at idle. no details received regarding harsh shift, just that dealer felt transmission repair was unacceptable. dealer has ordered a replacement transmission from gm. note: dealer, ferman at cypress creek in lutz, fl has been quite accommodating and rudy schmidt, service director, has made this ordeal much more tolerable. this appears to be a design or manufacturing flaw, which gm did not correct prior to delivery. *tr

Purchased 2007 pontiac grand prix gxp new, approx 3 months ago. at 500 miles, loud metal-on-metal clanking noise began. traced noise to transmission bell housing. taken for service at 1,500 miles, requested service writer listen to the noise and take care of problem. returned as no problem found. again, took vehicle to dealer for same noise, along with harsh and sudden shifts around 25-30mph. dealer attempted to return vehicle, stating it was normal, and covered by a tsb. i refused to accept the vehicle. dealer gave me a very hard time about covering a loaner vehicle, even though this was 2nd time to dealer with same complaint, unresolved, with just over 3,200 miles on odometer. dealer called gm. mechanics now have to tear out the transmission to attempt a diagnosis. apparently, there may be a clutch pack issue. vehicle still in service after 4 days, no diagnosis yet. request gm provide a new transmission and bell housing. *tr
