POWER TRAIN - CLUTCH ASSEMBLY - PEDAL/LINKAGE
10/30/200513110/15/2005
The distance between the clutch pedal and the driver's side (left side) kick panel and dead pedal area is too small. a person with a wide foot or in shoes that are large, such as work or snow boots will get caught in between the clutch pedal and attempting to use the dead pedal. pontiac customer support doesn't offer any suggestions or adjustment for this. if someone with a 10.5 or larger work or snow shoe/boot size with a width of eee should be able to duplicate this easily. this is a potentially dangerous condition and takes away from the driver's experience, especially during a panic situation and a quick reaction is needed. a good fix would be to move the clutch and brake pedal over to the right approximately 1/2 inch. this should provide plenty of clearance. the lack of a console or forward door mounted door lock switch makes it extremely difficult to lock and unlock the doors on manual shift cars. in an emergency situation and need to exit the vehicle quickly would be difficult. a retrofit should be provided (such as in the 2006 model year) for a console mounted switch. *jb

Dt: the contact states there are multiple problems with the vehicle. she has taken the vehicle to the dealership. on april 26, 2005 they replaced the computer, harness, throttle body, engine relay switch, clamps and hangers to the exhaust system. then on august 11, 2005 they replaced some missing strut tower nuts. there was a whistling sound coming from the vehicle when started. the safety and check oil indicator lights came on. later, on september 27 , 2005 the dealership replaced the engine, exhaust hanger and clamps again, pedal and pedal springs and engine manifold gasket. on october 19 the left tail light was loose, and the clutch pedal went down to the floor. the traction control button and the trunk release buttons would not work. also, the power steering bracket was loose. they replaced the left tail light, clutch pedal, and the missing right muffler insulator. *ak updated11/29/05. *jb

I have 14000 miles, and had a vibration from 55 to 70 for months. i took vehicle to the dealer a couple times , and they said they could not reproduce the problem. the driveshaft bolts came loose or sheared off at the differential 3 separate times. the first 2 times the dealer tightened or replaced the bolts, and it still has not solved the problem. also, it caused the pinion seal to leak, which the dealer replaced under warranty. i am a mechanic, and put the car in the rack to inspect it. the driveshaft was not running, causing the bolts to vibrate loose and shear off. this could be very dangerous if the driveshaft comes off. i did not feel safe driving this car, and am contacting pontiac about replacing the driveshaft. i knew of several other owners who have had this problem.*ak
