Upon starting our 2006 pontiac solstice around the first week of feb. 2013 to pull it out of the garage to let it run a bit since it has not been driven for the last few months due to us living in an area that has cold winter temperatures, i noticed the service air bag message showed up on the dic and did not go off. i shut the car off a couple of times and restarted it thinking the service air bag message would go away, but it hasn't. our pampered 2006 solstice only has 28,000 miles on it. not sure why this message would be showing up now out of the blue when the car was just fine when it was parked in the garage 3 months ago. from what i've been told the service air bag message is due to a failure of the passenger seat sensor. how does something all of the sudden fail just sitting there not being driven? after doing some research and reading hundreds, probably over a thousand complaints about the same issue, i found that this is a very common safety issue that i along with too many others have had to happen to our car's. seems like it is a defective passenger seat sensor part that just fails randomly which could put a passenger in grave danger, and it seems from what i've discovered gm is not offering to do anything about it, leaving the owners to pay the high cost to have it replaced and repaired. most people cannot afford to have the repair done and should not be responsible for the cost of a procedure that should be recalled because of a very high number of these type passenger seat sensors failing. *tr

The air bag senor in my vehicle failed after a car wash and interior cleaning. i'm afraid for my passengers that have to ride with me that includes my wife, i've seen the repair cost ($500-$800). at this time i can't afford the price for it to fail in a short time again, which is from what i've read is a common for this vehicle.

The air bag on/off light continuously says off, does not change, the message center flashes service air bag, and the air bag dummy light stays on. *tr

The light on the dash came on that is an air bag service warning light and says to service the air bag. i just looked up other cars with this problem and find a lot of similar or exact problems. this should be a factory recall in my opinion due to being such a safety hazard. it also appears that the dealers don't know how to fix it and are willing to charge you for attempted repairs only to make you spend more time and money to bring it back several times and keep trying to correct the problem. this is typical of many new car dealers on other service areas too. please ask them to fix these problems before human life is greatly affected. thank you for your help! *tr

The passenger side air bag on-off indicator is always off with an air bag warning idiot light and dic message. i assume the passenger air bag is not functional. i have found many complaints on the internet, and the repair cost from gm is extremely high. since this problem is a safety issue and not an isolated occurrence, wouldn't gm want to voluntarily issue a recall. if they don't, can they be forced to do this by the nhtsa? what is the criteria for a recall (safety risk, % vehicles affected, production numbers)? *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 pontiac solstice. the contact stated that while driving 25 mph, the air bags deployed without any warning. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who was unable to diagnose the failure but advised the contact that they found a melted wire on the clock spring. two hours after the repairs were performed, the failure recurred. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure who assisted the contact with the repair costs. the failure mileage was 18,220 and the current mileage was 18,241.

The service air bag light is on by itself. sent the car to the dealer, and it is said the air bag sensor module is broken and it costs around $700 to fix. searched the internet, and there are a huge bunch of complains about this problem, but the manufacture hasn't done anything to it. the air bag is directly related to the driver and passengers safety. the manufacture should recall this part before significant amounts of accidents happen. i didn't know where to complain this. and i am sure there are still many other pontiac solstice owners who have the same issue don't know where to report and complain this problem. the following are just some examples of the online forums where people report this issue: http://www.solsticeforum.com/forum/f12/dic-service-air-bag-familiar-anyone-69046/ i really hope this problem can be appropriately solved by the manufacture.

Passenger air bag sensor turned off, then back on, then off again when someone over 100# was sitting in the passenger seat. then, it stayed off, and the dash light service air bag soon now stays on. i believe this is an ongoing problem with the pontiac solstice passenger air bag sensor that many others have reported. this is a safety issue and should be recalled by gm.

2006 pontiac solstice passenger airbag light switches on and off with passenger present. airbag no longer has function or working correctly and a trouble code has posted. there is no way to completely disable the airbag so my family and i could be travelling or delivering the car to be fixed and the airbag could possibly be deployed resulting in injury or even worse possible fatality. gm should recall vehicles with this problems as it is not just limited to a few but several thousand cases.

I own a 2006 pontiac solstice and the passenger airbag sensor only comes on about 20% of the time. i have taken it to the dealer and they have replaced the seat cushion twice and i am still having the problem. the dealer contacted pontiac manufacturer and they have so far had about 10 cases of the sensor not working. they are not notifying other solstice owners of this problem because they said there are so few cases out there. is there anything you can do to rush their efforts in correcting this problem?*jb
