DP03007GENERAL MOTORS CORP.10/14/200301/30/2004UNINTENDED VEHICLE ACCELERATION
On september 23, 2003, the national highway traffic safety administration (nhtsa) received a letter dated september 8, 2003 from mr. donald friedman, petitioning the agency to open a defect investigation into unintended acceleration involving [model year] 1996 and 1997 general motors j-cars.in support of his petition, mr. friedman cited a report he received for gm showing it had received far more reports of alleged unintended acceleration for these models than for others.after assessing the data claimed by the petitioner to justify his request, odi found no indication that defect trend related to the petitioner's allegations exists at this time.therefore, there is no reasonable posibility that an order concerning the notification and remedy of a safety-related defect would be issued as a result of granting mr. friedman's petition.consequently, in view of the need to allocate and prioritize nhtsa's limited resources to best accomplish the agency's safety mission, the petition is denied.for additional information concerning this analysis, please refer to the attached federal register notice.

The car has had muliple problems beginning with the replacement of the horn in 1997. many of the sensors have been replaced several times, the parking brake still does not function properly, and i have replaced many major parts on the car. pontiac flatly refuses to do anything about my problems, they have only offered courtesy transportation after engaging in a shouting match & all they know how to say is sorry, your out of your manufactures warranty & we do not provide that information i have received the worst service you can possibly imagine. it has been at the dealership at least 9 times in under two years!

I had the fuel pump replaced on this vehicle in december 2006. i have been given information indicating this pump is in the suspect group of pumps covered by the delphi recall number 07e-015. i contacted the number listed, and was told that since someone else had entered information on the vin that they will not tell me anything. they refused to tell me how to have the inspection or reimbursement done. this vehicle was wrecked by my daughter in march 2006, and there is an ongoing investigation of the abs system also.*ak

The airbags have failed to deploy on two separate occasions and i have statements proving they should of. the fuel injectors damaged in the accident were fixed by newby auto 2 weeks later they were broken again they refused to redo them saying it wasn't the same one they fixed. they also refused to add an airbag check onto the estimate saying there wasnt enough damage to deploy them i have two other estimates totalling my car they refused to look at them and insisted it was ok and they would fix it unfortually they did not and it has had many problems since. newby auto a pontiac dealership was located in richfield utah at the time they had my car they are no longer in business in richfield.

Vehicle had a gas odor. for past week odor became very strong. consumer took vehicle to dealership, who found that the fuel injector in the #2 cylinder was leaking. spark from cylinder could have started a fire. as per dealer, this was a fire hazard, and would not start engine. manfacturer has advised consumer that repairs will not be covered. *ak

Through my experience, and reading the postings of many other owners of sunfires, i have noticed a large number of reports of inaccurate fuel gauges. my experiences are it will jump about a quarter of a tank while driving down the road, and then go down normally from there, but when i start the car again, it will be where it should have been in the first place. but, sometimes, the gauge will jump, and about ten minutes later drop at an alarming rate. then there are times that it operates normally. i don't want to be stranded by an innacurate fuel gauge. i know they aren't calibrated exactly, but it still shouldn't jump all over like it is. thank you for your time.*ak

My vehicle has a very strong gas odor. the problem is with fuel injectors. mechanic states the car could catch fire and will not pass inspection. the fumes are so strong it causes the driver to feel ill and complains of headaches and could possibly become dizzy causing driver to lose control of car. very dangerous!!
