FUEL SYSTEM, OTHER - DELIVERY
DP03007GENERAL MOTORS CORP.10/14/200301/30/2004UNINTENDED VEHICLE ACCELERATION
On september 23, 2003, the national highway traffic safety administration (nhtsa) received a letter dated september 8, 2003 from mr. donald friedman, petitioning the agency to open a defect investigation into unintended acceleration involving [model year] 1996 and 1997 general motors j-cars.in support of his petition, mr. friedman cited a report he received for gm showing it had received far more reports of alleged unintended acceleration for these models than for others.after assessing the data claimed by the petitioner to justify his request, odi found no indication that defect trend related to the petitioner's allegations exists at this time.therefore, there is no reasonable posibility that an order concerning the notification and remedy of a safety-related defect would be issued as a result of granting mr. friedman's petition.consequently, in view of the need to allocate and prioritize nhtsa's limited resources to best accomplish the agency's safety mission, the petition is denied.for additional information concerning this analysis, please refer to the attached federal register notice.

In less than 1 year i have taken my car to have it repaired 6 times for what i feel is the exact same problem! my engine stalls when i am coming to a stop or after being on the interstate and it idles rough. i have had my catalytic converter replaced twice in the past year, fuel sensor replaced, spark plugs, coil, wire to the ignition module replaced. my car still runs rough and stalls while driving on interstate, when idling in traffic, and when i come to a complete stop. this needs to be investigated. i have spent over $2,000 in repairs and tow fees. this is very unsafe. *tr

Engine shuts off without warning, while driving. fails to start when cold and also after driving. vehicle was towed twice in four days. fuel pump was initially thought to be the problem. taken to dealership 2 times in 7 days after the $700 fuel pump replacement. although technicians are doing everything they can to help me, they have been unable to identify the problem. in my opinion, the nhtsa should consider any vehicle that stops on the freeway unsafe to drive and worthy of investigation. thank you, in advance, for your assistance..

FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE - FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM - INJECTORS

I have a 97 pontiac sunfire. it has a faulty fuel injector which leaks all over my engine. the fumes blow into my vents and is hard to bear. i also have three small children and don't want them even in the car but it is all i have to drive. i called dealers and they said it has nothing to do with safety or any recall, but the car is only six years old and in great mechanical shape. it has been taken care of so i do not see why the fuel injector should be faulty already. i feel as though gm wont help me at all. this is apart that should not be bad so soon. thanks. *la
