My 2006 saturn ion will not start every time i try to turn it on. the battery has been replaced and is not the cause of the issue because everything in my car still has power but the ignition will not turn over. i took to the saturn dealership after this has happend to me several times and i was told that my ignition switch needs to be replaced. after doing some research online this seems to be a common issue with this make and model of car. this is a very inconveint problem to have with your car. having to worry if it will start in the morning or not and then how to go about your day if it does not start trying to find a ride to work or even possibly missing work because your car wont start because of a common ignition problem on the manufacturers side. i feel that this issue needs to be placed on the recall list..so that we as consumers can have this very common issue fixed with out cost to us..since we already invested money into a vehicle we expect to work.

We have a saturn ion 2006 which is now experiencing ignition issues. first the car would not stop running (hazard!) in my driveway. this was due to the key being stuck in the on position in the ignition! we had to allow it to run out of gas prior to finding the emergency key release that saturn has noted. now the car will not even start and when i called the customer service line, the response was hardly comforting. looking online it appears that there are numerous complaints logging this issue. it appears that there are quite a few people that would like to pursue a class action lawsuit against saturn/gm as there have been absolutely no investigations, recalls, or even an acknowledgement of said issue. this is the first time the ignition has caused us issues, but looking at the online complaints, it won't be the last. when will it be investigated? will it be investigated after an accident happens perhaps with my 2 children in the car? will it be classified as an urgent issue then? see how many people have had the issue below via the link embedded. http://www.consumeraffairs.com/automotive/saturn.htm

Tl- the contact owns a 2006 saturn ion. she stated that while attempting to turn off the vehicle, her ignition power stayed on for an hour , causing her to disconnect the fuel to the tank and the battery. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who advised that the cylinder for the key was damaged and had to be replaced. the repairs were done at her expense. the manufacturer was contacted and a complaint filed. the failure and current mileages were 87,000...

The 2006 saturn ion ignition locked on with the car running in park. this seems to be a chronic problem with saturn ions. the vehicle can not be turned off and the key can not be removed. it gets completely locked in place. the vehicle remains running, wasting gas and could be a safety hazard if something else is happening and the vehicle must be shut off quickly and can't. the only way to shut the vehicle off is to disconnect the battery and pull an ignition fuse. the key remains locked in place. i'm putting this under 'fuel system-other' because the ignition turns the fuel system on and off. i originally parked and tried to shut the vehicle off because i smelled fuel. luckily it was coming from somewhere else and was just in the air. but it was scary to smell fuel and not be able to shut the vehicle off. *tr

Key cannot be removed from ignition after car is turned off. have returned to the dealership 4 times for this problem. each time they lubricate the system but it does not fix the problem. it began less than 6 months after we purchased the vehicle and still persists today. we cannot take any more time off from work to take it into the shop to be told they will not replace the ignition system or the transmission/gear shift mechanism that may be the actual problem. in addition, in the first 18 months we've owned the vehicle, the air conditioning coolant has run out and they cannot locate the leak, and the sunroof broke. finally, on one occasion the car went over a bump at approximately 30 mph and the electrical system acted as though the car had a wreck, cutting the motor and showing the airbag had deployed when it had not. after a few minutes, the car started up just fine with no adverse affects. the dealer says they've never heard of such a thing and can't think of how/why it happened. *jb

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 saturn ion. when the vehicle was stationary, the contact smelled a strong odor of fuel inside and outside of the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for inspection and the technician stated the failure was contributed to a crack in the fuel tank line. the fuel pump was replaced by an independent mechanic. the contact had concerns of a potential safety hazard. the failure mileage was 55,200 and the current mileage was 55,595. updated 12/07/09. *lj the dealer also fixed the front window that had dropped into the door, a cracked speaker and dome light. updated 12/08/09.*jb
