Car was parked on a slight incline. hand brake was on. turned on ignition and engine started. put right foot on brake and released hand brake. placed car in reverse and began to lift foot off brake. car began to roll backward, but when i applied pressure to the foot brake to slow the car i found that i had no power brakes and no power steering. it took a great deal of effort to stop the car from continuing to roll backwards. by now the engine had stopped running and several alert lamps were lit on the control panel. over several days before this incident, i had noticed intermittent and momentary power steering failures when i was driving at slow speeds.

Driving down the road at about 35 mph i hit a bump (frost heave) and the entire vehicle shut down. no engine, no electrical systems. the vehicle became difficult to steer and the brakes did not operate as well as when the vehicle was running. i forced the car to the side of the road, turned the key off and back on again and restarted the car. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 saturn ion. while attempting to mildly turn the steering column to the right, the vehicle continued to drift forward. when she depressed the brake pedal at 25 mph, the vehicle failed to stop. the dealer could not duplicate the failure, produce error codes from the diagnostic, or provide a remedy. later, the contact started the vehicle and noticed that the check engine warning indicator was illuminated on the instrument control panel. the failure and current mileages were 33,000.

Driving down grand ave in stop and go traffic speeds from 0 to 25 on and off. traffic started moving and then came to a complete stop like normal. stepped on brakes, they went all the way to the floor and my saturn ion did not stop, it was like they gave out on me. had fender binder with car in front of me. no damage to their jeep, i have taken to autobody solutions by saturn and will have the following replaced: bumper cover, absorber, impact bar, light corner cover, car cover, flex additive and the following repaired: frame set up & measure, buff, tint color. when i told them the brakes gave out on me, that they went all the way to the floor and i did not slow down that there is nothing wrong with your brakes as your driving fine now. if they gave out on you, they still would not be working. *tr

Dt*: the contact stated while applying sudden brake pressure at various speeds, the consumers foot hit the brake arm which supports the brake pedal pad which restricts brake pedal movement. the vehicle was inspected by a dealer who determined this was the way the vehicle was designed. the manufacturer was not alerted. updated 01/10/07. *jb
