The key to this vehicle is stuck in the ignition and will not turn off. this vehicle had this ignition replaced due to a similar issue in 2010 by a gm dealer in ourisman chevrolet buick (703) 329-1300 1800 old richmond highway, alexandria, va 22303-1856. the original part became defected for the same issue and i had to pay over $700 to have the part replaced. now, the same issue has occurred. the key is stuck in the ignition and unable to turn off the car. i contacted general motors (saturn) at 1-800-553-6600 to report the problem and they are aware this has been happening. however, the is no recall to correct this measure. to turn the car off you have to disconnect the wires or replace the part for another $900. if gm (saturn) is aware of the problem a recall should be posted to all owners of the saturn ion and reimbursement should be provided for owners who had paid to have the part replaced. *tr

While trying to switch ignition to off, the ignition switch would get stuck at power on position. part was replaced by mechanic, saying this part always fails in gm vehicles after 5 years. the new part started to get stuck at the same position a year later and it takes multiple tries to get it shut off completely. *tr

The key would get stuck in the ignition not allowing me to get out of the vehicle unless i manually unlocked the doors. this was happening for about a year or more intermittently. then one day i could not get the car to turn off because the key would not turn. after about a 5-10 second time frame, the ignition would unlock allowing me to turn the car off and remove the key. this occurred intermittently for a couple of days then when i was on vacation, the key would not come out at all while the car was still running. i was left with having to temporarily unplug the battery and the fuse so the car would turn off. the mechanic i took the car to while on vacation showed me how to do this and was able to get the key out of the ignition. i had the car towed to a mechanic once i arrived home because the car would not start at all at this point, the mechanic informed me the ignition lock was bad, and apparently gm had been aware of the problem and offered no recall but did re-design the internal components of the ignition lock. *tr

The car made a loud noise when i pressed on the gas. it would not accelerate fast enough for the highway and the speedometer was not working. i'm guessing the car could go at max, 20mph. the speedometer remained on 0 while the acceleration had to go up to 3 or 4 just to keep the car moving. the check engine light was on. i took the car to gm dealership/certified saturn service right then, and they charged me $360 to replace the transmission control module. the service guy told me that when mechanics first did the electrical diagnostic check, the car failed 32 markers, but when they did an electrical diagnostic check after replacing the transmission control module, the results confirmed that all the car's problems have been fixed.

When i shut off my car, the ignition will not release the key. this happens every other time i use the car. extreamly frustrating. also needed to replace the front passenger side wheel bearing assy.

The key stuck in the ignition switch, in the run position. i could not shut the car off. i had to disconnect the battery from the computer assembly to shut the car off. fortunately, at the time, the car was under warranty. if i would have had to pay for the repair through the dealer, the cost would have been in excess of $500.00. i am filing this complaint because, now, a year later and after the car is out of warranty, it is displaying the same symptoms (difficulty removing key from ignition after shutting engine off) as were experienced before the ignition lock assembly failed last time. this problem, after much on-line research, is an issue with saturns from 2005-2007. as most individuals noted that they experienced the same problem, six months or more after replacing the the ignition lock cylinder, through their dealership. mechanics are noting that the assembly is faulty, in that each time the key is turned small bits of metal from the key are flaking off into the assembly, causing it to lock up, typically in the on position. thankfully, for me, this incident occurred close to home. this vehicle is no longer under warranty and the repair i am again anticipating will take replacement of the ignition lock assembly. this is something i will be doing myself or seeking the services of a 'shade tree' mechanic, as i do not have the funds to take the vehicle to a gm dealership for repair. given the number of complaints listed on-line through edmonds and other consumer complaint sites, i feel that gm should be taking responsibility for the faulty parts and a recall should be issued. this poor engineering should not be an out of pocket expense for any consumer.

While out shopping pulled in to park at a mall. went to turn key to off position and it would not move.vehicle continued to run as normal, with doors locked and in park.it could not be shut down. broke out the owners manual and tried all the handy advice. none of which worked. being a mechanic of 30+ years this was frustrating.no clear cut definition as to what was the cause. just it might be this, and to take to your nearest saturn dealer for servicing. upon returning home began investigating the ignition key problem online. i've had no real issues with this 2007 saturn ion quad coupe that i could not remedy myself. a 2.2 liter fuel injected engine w/auto transmission that to date continues to provide 30-32 mpg. car now has 92,000 miles. the answers that i found online were staggering. that this event has been allowed to occur over such a length of time and to several gm models. if the ignition had locked backwards due to such an internal break instead of locking it into the run position. i or anyone could have been killed if vehicle was moving at the time. especially if travel was on a major interstate or thruway environment. i am not trying to overlook that at any speed ...this is not a safe event to have occur. did contact a gm dealer locally..they stated that for $85.00 , we'll run diagnostics. an ignition cylinder problem does not show on any diagnostic tester to my knowledge. was then advised that at around $300.00 to start: they will be able to fix it. since 1990 gm has been aware of this issue along with other ignition concerns. when does it begin to matter? after someone is killed or critically injured?

My 2007 saturn ion's ignition lock cylinder is broken. apparently this is a very common problem with saturns, and fixing the problem once is not a garentee that it will not need to be replaced again. when i arrived home, my car would not turn off. the key would not turn back, however, we could completely remove the key, and we could turn the key to the on postion. my husband was able to turn off the car by pulling a fuse from the under the hood of the car after a little bit of research and a lot of wasted gas. we purchased a new ignition lock cylinder from the closest dealership, but that did not resolve the problem. we have now learned we also need to relace the ignition starter switch. there is no reason that this many saturns should be having the exact same problem. http://www.consumeraffairs.com/automotive/saturn_ignition_lock.html has over 50 pages of people complaining about the exact same problem! this needs to be recalled!

When placing vehicle in park, the doors remain locked and key cannot be removed from ignition. took vehicle to chev dealer for repair and they said my factory warranty was expired. i currently have 22,500 on vehicle and i purchased the vehicle on 1-1-2008 as a new vehicle at the dealership. i am being told by saturn customer service that the warranty went into effect in 2006 on the day that my vehicle was delivered to dealership and over a year before i ever owned it! what a scam!

This has not been a true safety item yet, but it has the potential of being one, and if you look on-line under key stuck in ignition you will be amazed how many people have had this problem. the car companies apparently know about it because the have installed a small cover under the steering column to remove and push a button to release the key so it can be turned and removed. many people like us have paid over $500 and still have the problem. looks like there should be a recall to fix this. some folk couldn't even shut the engine off and had to disconnect the battery. that' rediculous. i'm sure i speak for hundreds and maybe thousands of people that wish someone would do something about this problem. please take the time to look at what is on the internet concerning this. not everyone has a computer and access to this information. thank you.

Key stuck in ignition. car stuck running. what an unsafe situation, in high 90 degree weather. thank goodness my elderly grandmother was not in the car with me! roadside assistance had to come and turn it off by taking off a fuse in the hood, before towing it to the dealer. i burned my hand trying to disengage the fuse, before roadside assistance got there, because i was feeling sick standing outside in the 99 degree weather waiting. the dealer had to replace the ignition lock cylinder and housing, and i had to get a new key made at the saturn dealer. i googled this problem, and found over 48 pages of complaints. i sure hope that there is a recall on this issue, as this presents an obvious safety problem. hopefully saturn drivers will not get stranded in extreme hot, cold, or dangerous conditions, with their key stuck in the ignition. the exact same problem happened with my twin sister 1 week before it happened to me. both of us bought our 2007 saturn ions new, on the same date. this is more than a coincidence. we feel as though this part of the car must have been defective. it is not a typical, routine maintenance type thing that should need to be replaced on a car that is only 4 years old. it presents a serious safety issue, depending on the circumstances of when it occurs.

I came home last night around 10:40pm, went to shut my car off and the key would not come out of the ignition - it was stuck on. i took my car to my parents house (my dad has tools) and after several failed attempts to get the key out, i called onstar and they dispatched a local tow truck company to come. the guy was very rude and basically made me feel stupid for having this happen and acted like he couldn't help me with that, so i canceled the tow. we pulled some fuses and disconnected the battery and figured since at that time it was 12:30am that i would call saturn in the morning. i went on the consumer affairs website and found this has happened alot to people all over the country with my same car! and nothing is being done about getting a recall, and they are charging people up to $500 or more to fix it. i think gm should recall this ignition lock and all of these charges for the defective part should be covered by them. it's not the car owner's fault that the part is bad. i only have approx. $50k miles on my 2007 ion. i told the saturn service department i would call them back as i am not in a position to pay that right now, so i am not sure what i am going to do.

We have a 2007 saturn, almost everytime we drive it ,the key locks and will not come out.it is very fustrating.we live in a very hot climate and sometimes it takes up to 20 mins. to get the key out.we took to the saturn store, and they said they will not cover it.i have read a ton of complaints on this same problem in saturns, somehow they seem to be being ignored.

Beginning last week, once the car has been started , it cannot be shut off with the key. luckily, we do not garage this vehicle! we can put the car intopark, but the key will not turn in the ignition to any other position, and the key cannot be removed from the car. to stop the car, we pull a fuse and disconnect the battery. to start the car, we reconnect the battery and replace the fuse. while this is not as life threatening as other vehicle problems recently, it is wide-spread. when i went on-line to find a solution (saturn said all of its techs had gone home early) i found hundreds of the same incident.

The following event occurred on monday, february 22, 2010 at approximately 5:45 p.m. while i was driving my 2007 saturn ion. i drove to the service station for gas. when i tried to turn off my car, the key would not budge. the ignition was locked. i called the saturn dealership. the service department was closed, but i was told to drive my car there and someone would disable my car. the battery cables had to be disconnected to turn off the car. in order to repair my car, the whole ignition had to be replaced. after a brief internet search, i discovered that this is not an isolated incident; it has happened to many other saturn ion owners. *tr

I bought my car a year ago-brand new. two days ago i pulled up to work and went to turn my car off. the key would not completely turn all the way and was stuck in the ignition. the wheel was not locked, so this was not the cause. it has been three days now and it continues to occur. it is on and off, but the fact remains that there is a clear issue. i even went online to see if this was a common problem. apparently so. i found numerous forums and complaints from others who have purchased the same model car and have had the same issue. they also stated that when contacting the dealer, they already knew and were familiar with the exact issue. clearly this is a defect and i have not bothered taking the car in because everyone else who has had this problem has been charged upwards of $300 and the problem has returned. *tr

My key became locked in the ignition while my saturn ion2 was engaged. no matter what i tried, the key would not turn to shut the car off. i drove to a mechanic and he also had no idea how to disengage my car. i then drove a nearby saturn dealership. the dealership was very familiar with this problem and informed me that this kind of malfunction happened often in saturn ions. he informed me that the only way to disengage the car when the key is locked is to open the hood of the car (while it is running) and disconnect the main fuse from the battery. he also told me that this problem has a tendency of recurring because the ignition part is defective. the saturn mechanic fixed the ignition lock which cost a total of 330$ including part and labor. *tr

The issue with this vehicle is that it will randomly, and without warning, refuse to start. the key will not turn in the ignition. it is completely unpredictable and happens in both warm and cold weather. sometimes waiting 20 minutes and trying again takes care of the issue. more often than not, it does not. the dealer has replaced the ignition switch and the fuse so far. it continues to be a problem. it can happen at the first start in the morning, or after being driven for some time, and then shut off (eg. stopping at a store or to get fuel) and then attempting to restart. this has left me and my young child stranded more than once in freezing temperatures and extreme heat and is a risk to our lives! *tr

I arrived at work in my 2007 saturn ion on aug 29th, 2008 and tried to turn off my vehicle but the ignition switch wouldn't turn to the off position or come out of the lock. i contacted gm roadside assistance and they towed my car but say that they are not liable to pay the $500.00 repair costs required to correct the problem with the ignition and housing. i just searched the internet and found 20 pages of similar(almost exactly) accounts occurring with the saturn ion and other saturn vehicles and yet there has been no recall. please research these events. the more i research, the more i realize that this is a very common problem with saturn vehicles and it needs to be addressed. thank you. *tr
