The key to this vehicle is stuck in the ignition and will not turn off. this vehicle had this ignition replaced due to a similar issue in 2010 by a gm dealer in ourisman chevrolet buick (703) 329-1300 1800 old richmond highway, alexandria, va 22303-1856. the original part became defected for the same issue and i had to pay over $700 to have the part replaced. now, the same issue has occurred. the key is stuck in the ignition and unable to turn off the car. i contacted general motors (saturn) at 1-800-553-6600 to report the problem and they are aware this has been happening. however, the is no recall to correct this measure. to turn the car off you have to disconnect the wires or replace the part for another $900. if gm (saturn) is aware of the problem a recall should be posted to all owners of the saturn ion and reimbursement should be provided for owners who had paid to have the part replaced.

While trying to switch ignition to off, the ignition switch would get stuck at power on position. part was replaced by mechanic, saying this part always fails in gm vehicles after 5 years. the new part started to get stuck at the same position a year later and it takes multiple tries to get it shut off completely

I was driving down the street and all of the sudden the car was acting funny and not driving normally. then the pwr str light came on. i pressed my onstar button and asked them to run a diagnostic check. it came back with nothing. i proceeded to the store i was going to. when i went back to the car and turned it on the steering wheel / column was loose and drove normally for about a minute. after that there was a beep and the pwr str light came on again and it was very difficult to steer.

Http://www.consumeraffairs.com/automotive/saturn_ignition_lock.html dear gm, i have a 2007 saturn ion level 2, that the key will not turn off, i've removed the negative wire from the battery to get the car to shut off. where do i go to get this fixed? i live in starksboro, vt, and the former saturn of south burlington dealer (where i purchased this car new) no longer exists. the current dealer that is now at the same address has my warranty, do i take it to them? if i do will it be fixed under the warranty? the link below shows that a lot of other saturn owners are experiencing the same issue as me. http://www.consumeraffairs.com/automotive/saturn_ignition_lock.html i can send you more information if you actually need it. stephen ahern 351 freedom acres p.o. box 89 starksboro, vt 05487-0089 802-453-4145 email: sahern@gmavt.net

First off the car started sputtering, when stopped to fill with gas wont restart for several minutes, has just died in the middle of traffic for no reason. main concern now is the constant loss of power steering, first happened to my wife on the interstate with our 2 young grandchildren at 65 to 70 miles an hour, it just quit working scared the crap out of her she has 3 heart attacks already and am very surprised it didn't happen then!!! it has been getting more and more constant as of late, every 10 to 15 minutes if your lucky sometimes a lot quicker, you have to turn the car off then it woks however many minutes then makes a clicking noise then the alarm chimes and boom no steering again. the chevy cobalt (same steering unit and pontiac g6) have had recalls for this exact problem so why hasn't gm stepped up to the plate and fixed these crappy ion 3's

The key stuck in the ignition switch, in the run position. i could not shut the car off. i had to disconnect the battery from the computer assembly to shut the car off. fortunately, at the time, the car was under warranty. if i would have had to pay for the repair through the dealer, the cost would have been in excess of $500.00. i am filing this complaint because, now, a year later and after the car is out of warranty, it is displaying the same symptoms (difficulty removing key from ignition after shutting engine off) as were experienced before the ignition lock assembly failed last time. this problem, after much on-line research, is an issue with saturns from 2005-2007. as most individuals noted that they experienced the same problem, six months or more after replacing the the ignition lock cylinder, through their dealership. mechanics are noting that the assembly is faulty, in that each time the key is turned small bits of metal from the key are flaking off into the assembly, causing it to lock up, typically in the on position. thankfully, for me, this incident occurred close to home. this vehicle is no longer under warranty and the repair i am again anticipating will take replacement of the ignition lock assembly. this is something i will be doing myself or seeking the services of a 'shade tree' mechanic, as i do not have the funds to take the vehicle to a gm dealership for repair. given the number of complaints listed on-line through edmonds and other consumer complaint sites, i feel that gm should be taking responsibility for the faulty parts and a recall should be issued. this poor engineering should not be an out of pocket expense for any consumer.

Key stuck in ignition, car will not turn off. key will only turn on. car is at gm dealer now awaiting repairs. they say it needs a new cylinder housing, clylinder and key. car has 57,800km. also in the past the car slipped out of gear (1st) even when the emergency brake is engaged. the first time it rolled down a driveway and hit the mail box, which damaged to back bumper. dealer would not check into it. claimed it was driver error. bs i have driven a standard vechile for 35 years in hills. third problem is the gears. they are too tight. always was difficult to put into gear, sometimes to put it into first one must put it in reverse first then put into 1st gear. what knind of nonsense is that? complained to dealer within the first year. dealer said other customers have complained about the tight gears but that was the way it was built and to wait and see if it naturally became easier. from researching the internet the key getting stuck and not turning off appears to be a common problem. a recall should be issued and gm should pay for the repairs.

On june 19th 2011 my 2007 saturn ion wouldnt shut off the ignition was locked into the run position. since my vehicle is a stick i simply killed it but the electronic accesories were still stuck on. i had to go purchase a new igniton cylinder and install it in order to get my vehicle working again. this is a known problem and was recalled on other gm vehicles that share the same platform but not on the saturn ions.

It started with the key sticking in the ignition. unable to remove it and had to wait for a clicking noise to know the key released. now, intermittenly, the key will release but the engine will continue to run. the only way to stop it is to put the key back in and turn to accessory. it had done it 4 times in the past 5 days. it is now also having the power steering signal coming on the dash. the sticking key started a couple months ago, while the engine continuing to run and the power steering has been the past week.

I own a 2007 saturn ion and have been experiencing an ignition problem. everytime i park my car and turn the key to shut it off it gets stuck. no matter how i park, wiggle it, etc.. it gets stuck then i have to sit there anywheres from 30sec-hours before it will release. i brought it to my local saturn authorized service department (1hr away) and they could not find anything wrong they told me it must be spilt soda in the shifter and cleaned the inside of my shifter and charged $90. to only drive an hour home and have it keep happening! saturn will not help and my warranty expired. i did some research online and thousands of people have the same problem. shouldnt this be a recall?

My saturn 2007 ion will not shut off & i cannot get the key to release out of the ignition. i had to pull the ignition fuse & disconnect the battery. i called saturn who denied the problems with the ignition sysytems. i went onto consumer affairs.com, entered consumer complaints about saturn ion ignition lock & pulled up 50 pages of documented problems concerning the passlock system. why has there not been a recall on this matter? not 50 incidents, 100's of incidents. my car went out of warranty 1 month ago. it is estimated at over $500.00 to repair with no guarantee it will not occur again! please help us & check out this problem. i read that gm issued a service bulletin 04-08-45-005d concerning this matter.

2007 saturn ion 2 does not allow key to pulled out of ignition.

2007 saturn ion. happened on september 7, 2010. put key in ignition, start the car, however the car could not be turned off. the key was stuck in ignition and car had to be taken to dealership. car was taken to lockhart cadillac in greenwood, indiana. i was told that this is not under warranty or a recall, however i have read many complaints online where saturn customers are having this same problem. while dropping the car off at the dealership, not only was i told that it was not warranty or a recall i was also told by them that this is happening with a lot of saturn ion's and that it would be between $500-$600. cost seems to be a bit steep for something that saturn, or gm, should be covering because it is clearly a recall problem.

Beginning last week, once the car has been started , it cannot be shut off with the key. luckily, we do not garage this vehicle! we can put the car intopark, but the key will not turn in the ignition to any other position, and the key cannot be removed from the car. to stop the car, we pull a fuse and disconnect the battery. to start the car, we reconnect the battery and replace the fuse. while this is not as life threatening as other vehicle problems recently, it is wide-spread. when i went on-line to find a solution (saturn said all of its techs had gone home early) i found hundreds of the same incident.

The ignition key does not come out easily after the car engine is turned off. last year, one day, the key would not turn at all and the engine kept running for about 4 hours before saturn dealer came to shut off the engine. the dealer replaced the ignition key cylinder. but the problem persists. it is so often now that i am not driving my saturn. i fear the key will, one day, get stuck and not come out at all. gmc have been informed.
