EXTERIOR LIGHTING

The 2000 saturn l-series has an existing recall for hazard warning switch assembly replacement (saturn refers to it as #00-c-03, jan. 4, 2005); however, my vehicle is outside the vin series for that recall. nevertheless, my vehicle exhibited the symptoms described in that recall (turn signal intermittently inoperative; hazard warning switch sometimes made a loud buzzing sound, especially in very cold weather); i contacted saturn; however, since vehicle was outside recall vin range, they would not address the problem as a recall issue (i would have had to bring the vehicle in and pay for the service myself). instead, i acquired and installed the replacement hazard warning switch from a saturn dealer and installed it according to the recall notice instructions. since that time, the problem has not recurred. *tr
EXTERIOR LIGHTING - BRAKE LIGHTS

Brake lights continually fail. only one light will come on & the one that is on is brighter than it should be. multiple light replacements do not work. dealership has noted that the power circuit is run through the light assembly itself & that it isn't always seated resulting in failed circuit. in driving i see multiple saturns with this issue. secondarily the high mounted brake light if 1 bulb blows it shorts out the interior dashboard lights. *nm

My 2000 saturn ls2 continually suffers from failing brake lights when the headlights are turned on. to alleviate the problem, i remove the brake light assembly and clean the electrical connections. saturn refuses to correct this faulty design without charging me for the repair. my car is out of warranty, but saturn needs to step up and repair this safety design issue. *ak

Rear brake lights work intermittently. i have to constantly adjust the spring contacts for the lamp socket, with no guarantee that when i put the brake on while driving that the lamps will work. i've research other complaints with the same problems. numbers 10033374, 10102575, 562085, 10040856 there is more, but the point is the brake light assembly design is not working. this will eventually lead to accidents if it hasn't already. a recall of the vehicles to replace the lamp assembly with a reliable design should be implemented. this is a major safety issue. *jb

I have a 2000 ls2 saturn vehicle and i have been having trouble with the brake lights not working when my lights are on. there is a known problem with the defective inferior taillight assembly which relies on a weak spring-loaded contact on the socket to supply electricity to the bulb. well i was almost rear-ended last night because of this. i was yelled byt he driver following me. the bulb's filaments work, bu tit is the whole assembly that is inferior. i had another close call early this morning on my way to work. i am scared to drive anymore, but must continue to drive to my workplace each day some 28 miles one way from morgantown, wv to fairmont,wv. i feel since saturn knows of this safety problem that they must want me to continue to drive the vehicle with their faulty assembly. i shall continue to drive the car as saturn believes the assembly does not need replaced.i have a 2000 ls2 saturn vehicle and i have been having trouble with the brake lights not working when my lights are on. there is a known problem with the defective inferior taillight assembly which relies on a weak spring-loaded contact on the socket to supply electricity to the bulb. well i was almost rear-ended last night because of this. the bulb's filaments work, bu tit is the whole assembly that is inferior. i had another close call early this morning on my way to work. i am scared to drive anymore, but must continue to drive to my workplace each day some 28 miles one way from morgantown, wv to fairmont,wv. i feel since saturn knows of this safety problem that they must want me to continue to drive the vehicle with their faulty assembly. i shall continue to drive the car as saturn believes the inferior assembly does not need replaced. they have replaced the assembly on this model for those who are under warranty, my car is not under warranty so they will not replace it. please help me be a safe vehicle presence on the country's highway's within one of saturn's products that they sell this way.*ak

Rear turn signals and brakes lights work intermittently, new bulbs have been replaced 5 times; changed sockets from right to left lights and sometimes this will work for a while. took to saturn garage to check and they charged me $45.00 labor and $1.25 for a new bulb. they couldn't tell me why this problem keeps reoccurring. i took my saturn ls, 2000 into them to find the cause for this problem but received no results; unless they consider a new bulb a final fix. but the problem reoccured 2 days afterwards. i switched the sockets from right to left in the rear lights and now they are working but for how long i do not know. i just found out through my september issue of highways magazine that a recall on exterior lighting: turn signal switch was recalled in july of 1999 of the 2000 models; i purchased my ls 2000 saturn in april of 2000. i was never notified of a recall.*ak
EXTERIOR LIGHTING - HEADLIGHTS

The headlights tend to pulse intermittently when on the road at night. other drivers assume that this is an emergency vehicle, and tend to stop and pull over unexpectedly, which the owner anticipates that an accident can occur. manufacturer contacted and was aware of the problem.*ak..consumer has almost been hit by 18 wheelers twice when they thought that consumer was flashing the headlights to signal okay to come over, but was actually beside the trailers. luckily, consumer's vehicle was able to move over and avoid an accident. saturn claimed that the lights were operating within normal parameters, and will not fix them. consumer disagreed claiming that pulsing lights, when vehicle was cruising at 65 mph, was not normal. could be dangerous, and very distracting. *ak
